Hotel Serpina

You really couldn’t ask for a more perfect getaway than this Turkish delight. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be treated like one of the family here - not like a room number. The owner Ali and his dedicated staff will greet you with a welcome warmer than the sun and will make every moment of your stay as memorable as possible. It’s this super service that gives this whitewashed, low-rise complex its unique ambience. And also what draws people back here year after year.

The top-notch facilities will impress you just as much. For a start, the Serpina boasts an elegant pool. Flanked by an attractive terrace with sunbeds and parasols, it’s the perfect spot for shaking off your stresses. There’s even an al fresco bar close to hand when you’re in need of a freezer-cold drink or snack. And if you fancy staying on your feet for a while, there’s table tennis and pool for the taking.

After dark, tuck into a slap-up buffet meal in the air-conditioned restaurant, where traditional cuisine sits alongside international dishes. Whatever you do, make sure you don’t miss the weekly Turkish Night. Not only will you be treated to a delicious barbecue, but your host Ali will play the Turkish guitar, setting a truly authentic atmosphere. Then head back to your restful room, with its modern furnishings, air-conditioning and satellite television, for sweet holiday dreams.

In addition to all this, you’re right at the heart of all the local action. You’re just a stone’s throw from the honey-coloured sands of Gümbet beach. The nearest shops are a handy few steps away. And the resort centre itself is just a few minutes walk. The Serpina really does have it all. Add to the mix that unbeatable hospitality we were talking about and you’ve got a holiday made in heaven. So what are you waiting for?

Fairly basic but great friendly staff

Serpina is a family run hotel and the owner was always present to check out the service at breakfast, etc during our stay. My wife and I took a last-minute deal in May 2013 so we can't make any statement about the value, but we consider that we were lucky we got assigned to this hotel. While we did not enjoy Gumbet itself, the hotel was clean and provided all we needed for a week in the sun. The pool was cleaned each day and was really nice, there was poolside service, and a number of guests were on return visits to the Serpina. Engin the head barman and his staff were very polite and friendly and the prices for drinks, etc were reasonable. We did not eat dinner in the hotel, but the breakfast buffet each morning was great, and the Turkish buffet on our final evening was also great. The hotel owner is a part-time musician and plays in a local traditional band, and on the final night his band and the staff all participated in a great Turkish evening, including belly dancer (what else?), local songs and traditional Turkish folk dancing, all guests were invited to participate and had a great time. The owner and staff were always polite, did not seek any gratuities, and we did not experience any of the behavior reported in some of the other reviews of this hotel.More

Scam for money by hotel staff!

Do not go to this Hotel! It took me a long time to decide to write this review. I feel I was still in shock because of our experience there. I have never wrote a holiday review before. However, as it is the time of year when holiday booking fever sets in, I felt I had to warn others. We holidayed late in the season there were only a handful of guests. As the week went on there were about 6 guests left including my friend and myself. During the course of the week some of the staff were too over familiar. They would not take the hint that we were not interested. At first we were friendly as not to be rude, however this just encouraged their unwanted advances. We were harassed by Illo the barman and the chef Ali. They continually asked us to give them our phones. As if that wasn't bad enough they asked for financial help for their families as they had no work over the winter. We were asked by these staff members, How much did we earn, Did we own our house, How much did we pay for our cars. As you can imagine this made us feel very uncomfortable so we tried to avoid the hotel as much as we could. This seemed to make them angry! The doors of the hotel were locked so we had to ask to be let out. We were constantly bombarded with questions by the above staff, on where we were going, and why? Insisting we eat and drink in the hotel! They warned us not to go out at night as it was too dangerous, insisting that it was safer to stay in the hotel bar. As the week went on, we began to feel more vulnerable and the two staff members became intimating. When we showed no interest in their advancements they began to insult us. We were informed that there was a gun in the safe of the hotel and that Ali chef was in the mafia! This was said to intimidate us into giving money as flirting and sobs stories had failed. The nicest member of staff is the barman called Engae He is a gentleman and looked after us well. A similar review was posted 2012! If you are just females going on holiday , please take my advice don't go to Serpina! The management need to wake up to this. We will never be back to Serpina ever! Gumbet, however is a great holiday location. The majority of people are welcoming and funny. The Red Dragon is a must for food. Their full cooked breakfast and evening meals are to die for. We ate there every day and night.More

We have been twice and had two completely contrasting experiences!!!

Our first visit in August 2013 was a great holiday, average room but fairly clean. Nice pool area and friendly helpful staff. We were out a lot and didn't spend much time around hotel. We went out to local bars & restaurants as we were not impressed by hotel food especially breakfast which was crawling with flies!!! This was the only draw back which was fair enough. We had such a great holiday we decided to return at close of season in october as it was very cheap!! However October was a very very different experience!!!!! Hotel had very few guests which we initially thought was a good thing but how wrong we were!!! ... One corridor off the hotel was open the rest off the complex was shut off & appeared unsightly with rubbish, mattresses and general waste. There was Very few hotel staff working and they got very annoyed that we choose to eat outside off the hotel so it was apparent they were uninterested in providing any service and sat at the tv in hotel bar. This time around Our room was filthy and cleaned only once the whole week, we had to ask for sheets etc to clean it ourselves. The hotel staff kept locking the front doors during the day and that made us uneasy, we had to look for some one to unlock doors to let us out!!!! Some off the staff got quite overly familiar which was extremely uncomfortable. We had a request for " help" from a staff member who had a very poor family back home and couldn't afford basic necessities and asked us for a mobile phone!!!!!! We felt extremely vulnerable and under pressure. Its for certain to say due to that we will not return to serpina!!!!! More

Little paradise!

Been here 3 years running and have never done that before! Staff are awesome. Love Engin, he makes my birthday holiday special! Most people agree! Don't understand poor reviews especially people who were on holiday same time as us! This is a treasure of a holiday and is like visiting family and friends in the sun! More

Serpina - End of season

Just returned after a week at the Serpina at the end of the summer season. It's a basic and good standard hotel with a relaxed feeling, most certainly would imagine it to be a lively place in the peak season. The mattresses were uncomfortable and some of the cleaning in the room was poor unfortunately. Staff were friendly, basic breakfast and very attractive pool area to relax, very pretty. Location was fantastic, 1-2 minutes to the start of the town and same for the local Dolmus buses taking you into Bodrum. Please don't expect stunning views from balconies as some of the building faces neighbouring buildings or the pool. I'm very pleased with the hotel, especially at the end of the summer season as it was very quiet. Overall very pleased with our holiday and if you're looking to get away for the week, must! - value for money if you travel with Thomson on package.More
