Like noisy, non-stop holidays? You'd better give Gokcebel a wide berth. Because although it's kind of near Gumbet, it's light years away when it comes to pace and atmosphere.
Peace-lovers will love it to bits. Set in the hills above Yalikavak with rugged mountains on one Side and heart-surging sea views on the other, this slumbering small settlement is heaven if you're looking to unwind and uncover a more traditional Side of Turkey while you're at it.
Hardly touched by tourism, the village has a couple of shops and a bakery, where the tempting aroma of freshly-made bread can be smelt all around. Sprinkled around the hills are crumbled ancient watchtowers, the remnants of a local aqueduct and white-sailed, rustic windmills.
When you're ready for a town, head for Yalikavak on the coast below. Here, waterfront fish restaurants gather around a picturesque marina creating a romantic supper-by-the-sea setting. Before you choose a table, dawdle around the charming bazaar, its stalls piled with kilims, chunky silverware and fragrant spices.
Bodrum is another must. Occupying two picturebook bays divided by a medieval castle, this effervescent city is a sightseeing, shopping and scenic gem. And when you're done with exploring, there's always the beach. With over 150 on the Bodrum peninsula alone and idyllic coves at Yalikavak and Gumusluk nearby, you'll never be short of options.
