Holidays in Tekirova

Hugging Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, Tekirova is sandwiched between the rugged Taurus Mountains and an impressive Blue Flag beach. This pristine stretch of pebbles and sand is its pride and joy – and for good reason. It stretches as far as the eye can see, and offers up spectacular views of the landscape surrounding it.

It’s no surprise then that most people come here for some serious R&R. Ranks of sunbeds cover the pebbles and the beach is divided into private hotel stretches, so you’re pretty much guaranteed a good spot. The warm seas are ideal for watersports, too. We’re talking jet skiing, parasailing and banana boat rides, plus snorkelling and dive trips out to nearby islands and coves.

Away from the beach, Tekirova itself is pretty low-key. It’s still developing as a resort, and has just a clutch of restaurants and bars to its name. The shopping is a bit livelier, though. Cue an arcade stuffed with souvenir shops and a lively Saturday market. For nightlife, your best bet is nearby Kemer, with its bars and clubs.

In terms of day trips, you’ve got quite a bit on the doorstep. Head to Phaselis, a pine-covered peninsula that’s speckled with Roman ruins, or get back to nature with a hiking or rafting trip to the Taurus Mountains. Alternatively, head for Antalya, just up the coast. This lively seaside town is home to an old walled quarter, cobbled lanes and café-lined marina.
