Hotel Barceló Santiago

in Puerto De Santiago , Tenerife T rating: 4

  • Stylish décor
  • Cliff-top location with lovely views
  • Tapas bar
“The Barcelo Santiago offers up superb sea views, stylish rooms and a chic pool scene.”
Thanks to a cliff-top setting, ocean panoramas come as standard at the Hotel Barcelo Santiago. With the rocky cliffs of Los Gigantes on one side and Tenerife’s sister island, La Gomera, off in the distance - it’s one of the most scenic spots on the island.

The hotel itself has been completely refurbished, so everything’s nice and fresh inside. The bedrooms are dressed in pale blues and yellows, with painted canvases that add a personal touch. Elsewhere, leafy plants and wicker furniture complete the calming scene.

Outside, there are three big pools to choose from, with a fourth that’s just for children. The hotel puts on a kids’ club, too, so pint-sized guests have plenty of options. Plus, you can swap poolside for beachside in a matter of minutes – Puerto Santiago’s sandy shores are just a short stroll along the promenade.

Food-wise, you’ll find breakfast, lunch and dinner in the buffet restaurant. In the evening there’s show cooking - so you can watch the chef rustle up meat, fish and pasta dishes. The same goes for the à la carte grill, and there’s a tapas bar if you fancy something more traditional. Plus, the hotel has a chic cocktail bar – the Coco Loco’s highly recommended by guests.

On top of all that, there’s an ultra-stylish spa. So you can wind down in the Turkish baths, sweat it out in the sauna, or just doze all the way through a massage.

Your guide to Puerto De Santiago, Tenerife

“Modern and traditional, this pretty fishing village has got the holiday balance just right.”

The west coast of Tenerife is becoming increasingly popular with visitors and Puerto de Santiago is no exception. Once a quiet fishing village, this seaside sparkler is all grown up. But it’s lost none of is traditional charm. One thing’s for sure, this tiny town is million miles from hum-drum. Think cliff-top views of the Atlantic Ocean - on a clear day you can see all the way to La Gomera. Local fisherman unloading their sea-salted catch onto the harbour. Restaurants spilling tantalising aromas into the sun-warmed air. And you’ve got Puerto de Santiago down to a T. What could be better than a plateful of fresh-from-the net fish and seafood – enjoyed with the sun on your back and a crisp glass of wine in your hand? This is the life. Looking for a little sand time? There is a small black-sand bay for you to stretch out in – but it is tiny. Real beach lovers are better off visiting nearby Playa la Arena, just five minutes along the coast. Another unmissable day out is a drive to the wonderfully picturesque Masca Valley - arguably one of the most scenic spots on the entire island. Simply irresistible.
