It’s close to the beach and centre of town, but with its extensive gardens, the Hotel Catalonia Las Vegas feels nicely tucked away.
You’ve got mountains in one direction and the ocean in the other, so the views at this place are pretty impressive. A rocky beach and the Lago Martiánez pool complex are just over the road, while the old town is five minutes’ walk away.
Palm trees and tropical blooms sprawl throughout the hotel’s grounds, and into the glasshouse-like lobby. Bedrooms come with pine-wood floors and fixtures, and furnishings in complementary shades of navy.

Our first visit to Tenerife but what a visit.
It had been a long day of travelling for our first visit to Tenerife with the added fact of being in the north of the island which meant the long ride around the mountains. Tenerife South was buzzing but the Thompson people made the transition from the aircraft to the hotel painless. We arrived at the hotel in an area totally alien to us but none the less pleasing to the eye, right on the waterâs edge on a very pretty looking promenade. Our check in was flawless and we were given a room on the 6th floor overlooking the hotel pool at the back of the hotel, we just dumped most of our stuff in the room and headed down for our evening meal. We were not elegantly dressed, some patrons were, but we had literally just arrived so it was with anticipation that we looked forward to a decent meal. What we witnessed left us blinking, the restaurant was elegant and the food set up was mouth-watering, the choice of dishes was extensive, with explanations of the contents of the food in various languages, including English. After a few minutes deliberations, I tucked into some food, it was as tasty as it looked, my wife was already into her main course having already sampled a starter. She is far more choosey than myself over food, to put it mildly she likes her food. A member of staff asked if we would like a drink and for the moment water would suffice, and this would be the theme during the whole of our stay, a desirable choice of dishes, meats, potatoâs, chips, veg, various spices, and a salad bar that had looked out of glossy magazine. To summarise then, but I think you get the drift, we were half board and each meal time was a pleasure, the meals, sweets, bread, soups, even biscuits along with ice cream, and cornets, gateauâs, the list was endless. Breakfast was the same with the added choice of fruit juice/tea/coffee at your disposal, in short, the restaurant was awesome. The staff took away empty plates and generally attended the guests wishes with curtesy and efficiency, even when the place was near to full. If you required a drink, alcohol at evening meals for example, you could sign a receipt and pay at the end of your stay or pay cash before you left the restaurant. The vista from the restaurant was of the prom and the Atlantic although at one end it was more secluded and quiet if that was your thing. As I say we just dumped everything on arrival and headed for our meal but what of the room? Wonderful, spacious with a large flat screen TV hung on the wall giving a plethora of channels, large comfortable beds and a bonus, a balcony. The bathroom had a shower over the bath but the room was of a reasonable size and had all the usual amenities. Large and small towels, complimentary toiletries completed the setup, also available, and useful, were a room safe and fridge. The room safe was 28 euros for a weekâs use, and a key was available from reception which enabled the whole thing to work, instructions on how to set up the safe were straight forward. At the end of your stay you returned the key, and receipt, and 10 euros were returned to you. The fridge held our drinks for the duration of our stay so cold lemonade and tonic water were on tap for us. The balcony overlooked the large pool area but we didnât use the facility but we did sit on the balcony most evenings and the views of the mountains were lovely. What made it even more so was the greenery as most mountain terrain we have seen in Spain is of a barren landscape, much like the view travelling from the airport to Puerto del la Cruz. As I have said the hotel is in a prime position but there are also some outside attractions nearby and one of those attractions is a club which seemed to be open until the early hours of the morning and with people being on holiday noise is inevitable. A casino is also opposite at the front of the building but we never heard anything from there, but to shut out any noise were two sliding doors to the balcony and if things got too warm in the room a ceiling fan and air conditioning unit were available. Although I must say that trying out the ceiling fan one night we were alarmed to find that it wobbled violently so turned it off, the air con was fine. The rooms, corridors and in fact the whole hotel was very clean, our room was splendidly looked after by the cleaning staff, and outside of the hotel the immediate area seemed to be cleaned every night. Could we fault anything? Well the fact that we would eventually have to leave this hotel and in fact the beautiful prom area of Puerto del la Cruz, we did venture to the harbour area and watched the sunset as we did from the prom itself. We are not beach people but if you are then that is one disappointment for you if you are expecting golden sands like many of the Spanish Costas. The beach here, if you can call it that, is like soot, black gritty soot, and be prepared to have to sit on pebbles/stones but for us it wasnât an issue. To sum up, an excellent hotel with staff to match, situated in a prime position within easy reach of bars, restaurants and the whole sea front and the harbour but one place I have not yet mention is right on the hotelâs doorstep. It is called Lago Martianez and consists of several swimming pools and a salt lake surrounded by sub-tropical gardens, you have to pay to enter but it all looked lovely from the prom area, we didnât go in. This was our first trip to Tenerife but I have no hesitation recommending this hotel, the location is perfect for a leisurely stroll were much of the scenery is breath-taking. There are attractions not too far away, Loro Parque is one such attraction housing many animals from dolphins, sea lions and parrots but my wife and I just loved to stroll in the sunshine although cloud was covering the sun at various times it was never too pervasive.More
Nice hotel on the flat and everything local.
All staff were friendly, especially the reception and the animation team. We had room 406 on the fourth floor. It looked out over the upper sunbathing area and the pool. Not a lot of sun in the room but it was quiet and the beds were probably the most comfortable we have ever had. A decent size room and always clean. It could do with a slip mat in the bath as it`s quite slippery and no grab rails. Food good, we were half board. Average entertainment at night. Happy hour 1700-1800. Animation staff were very good during the day getting everyone to join in. Central location on the flat, bus stop outside hotel. I will be going back again at some time.More
Hotel is in a great location, staff were friendly and had a smile. Room seemed dated but was clean and the bed was comfortable. Food was ok nothing special but I had no complaints. The pool area felt crowded and difficult to nod off as felt we were on top of each other but was ok, Hotel was good value for money and I would stay here again. More

It's all in the title, yes the hotel is located in a fabulous location,on the front not far from most things except a good beach. The beach issue is easily rectified by jumping on the free train to the Loro Park, the train stop is located just out side the hotel 30M to the left of the entrance. Upon arrival at the park simply walk back the way you have come and you will be at Jardin beach in 5 minutes. I recommend ambling back on foot enjoying the wonderful sights along the way as you can either walk along a spectacular coast or pass though absolutely beautiful parts of the old town, which takes about 30 minutes. Shop, take some refreshment along the way the time will fly by. The hotel supply's a good breakfast and evening meal, if you enjoy a variety of food, best to get to breakfast before 09.00 and dinner before 20.30 as some things may be left out to long or run out. If you are middle aged and want to feel young again this is the hotel for you as the majority of the clientele are elderly, this makes for a peaceful stay and plenty of room in the swimming pool. We were located on the eleventh floor, at the front of the hotel which gave us a spectacular view of the seafront, however it does get noisy from about 09.30 pm to 11.30, because of the loud music which can be heard from a nearby bar / restaurant. It maybe be cheeky but I would stay at the front of the hotel next time with the great view then change rooms to the back after a few nights. If you enjoy a pre 1960's type of entertainment then you will enjoy the acts performing in the hotel, there is a sort of fawlty towers comedy appeal about some, in a can't believe what I'm seeing sort of way. The staff at the hotel are very good, reception helpful ,rooms cleaned every day, efficient service in the restaurateur, day time activities staff, good fun, always ready to have a laugh. Its cheap to keep your room on, 20 Euro for 3 hours 30 Euro for 6 hours. We would happily stay here again.More
