An introduction to Hotel Botanico

This is more than just a 5 star hotel. It’s a 5 star spa hotel that’s recently been admitted to that select circle of luxury retreats, the Leading Hotels of the World. Plus, it’s been voted one of the top ten spa hotels in Europe by readers of Condé Nast Traveller. Its credentials are certainly impressive.

Location wise, the hotel is tucked in a residential corner of Puerto De La Cruz. It’s about a ten-minute walk into the town centre and to the beach. What’s more, it’s cocooned in six acres of landscaped gardens, where lakes, waterfalls and glossy palms share space with black swans and Koi carp. Plus, the Botanico is adjacent to Tenerife’s famous Botanical Gardens, whose collection includes orchids, birds of paradise flowers and a giant banyan tree.

Grounds aside, the hotel is rather special inside, too. We’re talking lounge areas that look like something out of an English stately home. Bedrooms in warm shades of gold and terracotta that channel French salon styling with Louis XIV-look chairs. And à la carte restaurants that range from an Italian trattoria to an Oriental eatery opened by the Queen of Thailand.

Adding another grace note of luxury is the state-of-the-art Oriental Spa Garden. It comes with all the usual trimmings such as thermal pools, saunas and steam rooms, as well as novelties like a lavender-scented aromatherapy room and a cave-dwelling Jacuzzi-style tub. Plus they’ve added some indulgent extras in the form of chocolate treatments and volcanic body wraps.
