My wife and I have just returned from a ten-day Half Board stay at this hotel. We chose it after reading so many great reviews and on the recommendation of our travel agent. My wife and I are in our (very) late seventies but pretty able bodied and until last year have arranged our own fly-drive annual holidays to such as North America (14 times), South Africa and India (twice). Perhaps this "loner" attitude we have to holidays is the reason for our dissatisfaction with our recent one. We agree with many of the good comments made by previous reviewers. The staff could not be bettered in their friendliness and efficiency, the room and internal areas of the hotel were spotless and there was a wide selection of food for the breakfast and dinner buffets. Service in the very large bar area was effective and efficient. The nightly entertainment is held in this area and here I especially mention Robert Philippe a one man music centre and a beautiful young pianist Erika Sakal whom I'm sure we shall see on television or hear in a concert hall in the future. There is a wide range of activities from water aerobics to shooting organised by staff. Our room faced the swimming pool in the central portion of the hotel so we had straight views of the sea over the Safari shopping centre and a Hard Rock Café. So why were we disappointed? Basically, in our opinion the hotel is too large for the size of the pool area and for the dining room. Sun loungers are arranged in rows close together with the loungers themselves almost touching. In the dining room the tables are also very close together so that it is virtually impossible to have private conversations there or in the pool area. The main pool (there are two) opens at 9.30a.m. and closes at 5.30p.m. The later opening time is ridiculous as many like myself like a pre-breakfast swim. Of the ten mornings we were there the large pool did not open until nearer lunch time. We were not given reasons for this but local rumour had it that the amount of chlorine in the water was too great but this seemed strange as I never detected chlorine at all and assume the hotel uses other chemicals. While we were staying we saw no evidence that the paving around the pool area had been washed. Indeed most people seemed to have black or dirty foot soles. This hotel, according to earlier Trip Adviser reviews used to have dawn patrols to remove towels etc booking sun loungers. This seems to have been changed to a short "patrol" between 9.15a.m. and 10.00a.m. when a number of towels are removed thus un-blocking loungers. This change does not hinder the blockers. Finally, and this may seem strange in view of our ages but the clientele of this hotel seems to be mainly pensioners many of whom can hardly get about so I would not recommend this hotel, despite its many attractions to young couples or those with children.More

sunshine at the vulcano
Just returned from another stay at the volcano hotel and staff still very good evening entertainment needs to be altered to give more different shows not all music there used to be some really good acts such as sister actMore
It is 4 years since we stayed at the Vulcano and was pleased to see the very good standards were maintained. Food excellent especially the breakfasts. Entertainment was a Ok with excellent performances from Jeff Leyton, and Beegees and Beatles tribute bands. Could do without the Magic act, Chinese jugglers and worst of all the Michael Jackson impressionist. The animation team were extremely hard working particularly Romy and Marco despite what appeared to us as extremely low budget. Our room was excellent but the television was awful, picture breaking up, except for BBC world news, reported it twice and did not improve. The hotel's IT and communications need bringing up to date. WiFi not available in some of the public areas as advertised. The hotel though is an excellent place to stay and we recommend it.More

Very Good Hotel
Stayed here in August for 12 days very friendly staff, lovely clean hotel. food excellent, no complaints re room allocated a huge room with a king sized bed and lovely view with out asking for an upgrade lucky or what?? One problem the sunbeds are too close together can't move between them at times During our stay you could not put towels on the sunbeds before 10 am if you did they would be removed.. We found people did return to this hotel year after year because it was so good, It did seem to cater for the older age group. The entertainment was average, the price of drinks in the hotel was expensive. As a consequence people sat with one drink all night. Not a hotel that caters for children. Would return to this hotel.More
