Hotel Bitacora

Loading

Guests return to the Spring Hotel Bitacora year after year, which goes to show how popular the place is. Its main selling point is its location. The hotel is just a ten-minute walk from a sandy beach, and only a bit further from the shops, restaurants and bars in the centre of Playa de las Americas.

The pool area is another impressive feature. It consists of two lagoon-like swimming pools, one of which comes with a waterslide and a large shallow area for children. Each pool is edged by loungers and parasols, with lawns and palm trees adding a bit of greenery. Rounding everything off is a shaded bar serving drinks and lunches like homemade paella.

You can also eat in the hotel’s buffet restaurant. Expect big buffet spreads featuring eggs, bacon and sausages at breakfast, and soups, roasts and Spanish staples at other times.

Finally, children are well catered for here. There’s a kids’ club, ballpark and mini discos in the evenings.

Not as good as our previous visit

Just got back from a week in hotel bitacora where we went to celebrate both mine and my wife's birthdays. This was our second stay here but the last one was five years ago. Checked in no problem and were allocated 126 room which I was really disappointed had not been newly decorated and was actual poor for a four star hotel. I mean the walls were chipped and the tiles on the bathroom floor were cracked in places. The last time we stayed we were half board and the only other option then was full board. Now the hotel offers all inclusive instead of full board, but because we don't usually drink too much and like to go out at dinner time for a walk and nice glass of wine (in the excellent Daniels bar not too far from the hotel) we decided on half board again. We could not fault the food and it was as good as it was years ago!, lots of choice and good quality!. The pool area is also great and there are plenty of activities if you don't fancy just relaxing and soaking up some sun. What I can not understand is that a four star hotel offering all inclusive has so little waiter service when the bar hall is packed. Bare in mind that you can't just go to the bar and order your own, you have to sit and wait for someone to come to you. I was told after ordering our first drinks we could not pay in cash and had to put it on our bill to pay later. Really don't understand why we could not simply pay when we wanted because we were half board, not all inclusive!. My second concern was the wifi situation in the hotel, which you could get free in reception but had to pay to receive in your room. We tried repeatedly to access the free wifi but it didn't really work correctly and was a right pain. After a few days we decided to pay a fee for use in our room, we were given the code and every time we went online we had to keep putting it in. This was also a pain and kept not letting you access the wifi!. I feel in this modern age wifi surely should be available free of charge at a four star hotel, charging people is cheap and what you would expect in money grabbing places not this fine hotel. My other gripes are the TV in your room, a nice big samsung LCD TV. Great when you've had a good time around the pool and need to cool of and chill out in the room. Except the TV has about two English channels on it and the rest are foreign. I understand the hotel caters for all countries but on our visit the majority of customers were English speaking!. The previous time we came a lot more were English and you had not problem getting a drink. I often wondered whether the half boarders were given the old rooms as punishment for not going all inclusive!. Would I go back to the bitacora?, probably not!, especially for celebrations!, I feel this hotel will be an all inclusive hotel in the near future!More

Bit of a let down

Our 3rd stay here. As usual the staff were always friendly and polite and rooms spacious and clean. What let us down was the food. Even getting into the restaurant just after it opened, the food was barely warm. I also thought that the vegetable choice was not as good with vegetables mixed together in the same tray. I cannot stand Sweetcorn but this was mixed in with sprouts so I had to pick the corn off. I know that is just me but on our last night, we had Lamb and potatoes but neither my husband or myself could find vegetables we liked to go with it and my husband will normally eat anything. It's a shame as everything else about this hotel was as good as previous visits.More

amazing family holiday! unfortunately the front desk weren't very handy when we arrived. Apart from that it is a very nice hotel with state of the art rooms. Breakfast and Dinner were outstanding with helpful staff and a smile on their face! This hotel is the best In Tenerife by a mile. I highly recommend this for late winter.More

Our holiday at the Bitacora

we had a wonderful two weeks holiday here, it was first class. however there wer a couple of little niggles. The hotel provides a special pool for babies and infants, but parents would insist on taking them in the adult pool. the problem was that they tended to hog the area which was shallowest which was around the entrance steps, some lesser mobile adults had difficulty getting into the pool because the steps were crowded with parents and babies plus all their inftatables and toys. why do parents act in such a selfish way. the hotel should bar babies and infants from the adult pool when provision has been made specially for them elsewhere. similarly in the entertainments bar, parents with small children and babies were in there up to 12 midnight. they were a nuisance to adults trying to enjoy the entertainment. the hotel should apply a night time limit of 9.00pm for babies and infants.More
