in Playa De Las Americas , Tenerife T rating: 4

  • Central location
  • Tropical gardens
  • Lovely pool areas
  • Family rooms
"This place has definitely got the wow factor. The swimming pool is a knockout and the reception is a real showstopper. Add great food and good facilities to the mix and you’re in for something special."
Imagine a thatched-roof bar surrounded by gently nodding palms. Now add a good helping of hot, hot sunshine. In the distance there’s the sound of a splashing waterfall. But don’t be fooled, you’re not in the Caribbean. This is in fact Tenerife. The Hotel Best Tenerife to be precise – one of Playa de las Americas’ most impressive hotels. Our tour here begins with the swimming pool. Like a tropical lagoon, its curving sweep of cool blue water is crossed by a suspension rope bridge and cocooned by lush gardens. The pièce de résistance, however, is the cascading waterfall that trickles down into the pool. The surrounding sun terrace is peppered with parasols and sunbeds making this the perfect spot to just kick back, relax and soak up the sun. Giving the pool a run for its money, however, is the hotel lobby. All marble, glass elevators and exotic plants, it’s even got an indoor stream! There are more treats in store down at the restaurant. Watch chefs rustle up mouthwatering food at the show cooking station. And don’t miss the fortnightly themed dinners. If you want to work off some of those calories, there’s plenty in the way of facilities here. Get your adrenaline pumping with an energetic game of squash. Or take advantage of some of the daily organised activities. But if you just want to bliss out on golden sands, the beach is only about a five to ten minute stroll away. You see, it’s true – when the pace of life is this relaxed, you could be forgiven for thinking you’re in the Caribbean. Enjoy.

Your guide to Playa De Las Americas, Tenerife

"Near the southwestern tip of Tenerife is one of the island’s main coastal attractions, the resort of Playa de las Americas. Full of modern restaurants, bars and hotels, it is lively and fun, its large white sandy beach attracting people from all over the island. Next door is the more sophisticated resort of Los Cristianos while just around the coastline is the beautiful beach of El Médano, famed for its windsurfing."

Playa de las Americas, 17.5km south of Reina Sofia airport, is a modern playground with an international atmosphere - perfect for families as well as young couples and groups of friends. The beaches are popular, watersports are brilliant and there’s a waterpark (and the buses to it are free!). There is an 18 hole golf course with views towards the resort centre and the sea, an ideal location made even more attractive for a round of golf as it is protected from the wind by a nearby mountain range.
