Second home

Ive been to many places around the world but i always get drawn back here. Ive stayed in 3 of the complexes in Las Americas many times since i was a young child and i love them. Yes they have salt water pools but i dont mind this because i dont have to worry about my blonde hair turning green!! Most of the apartments/villas are privately owned, some are lived in all year round and some are rented out to holiday makers. The grounds are clean and tidy, and the bougainvillea planted around each one smell beautiful, especially during the evening. I prefer to holiday here at the end of august when most of the children have gone home to go back to school so its much quieter (not that i dislike children or anything lol). There are plenty of bars and restaurants right outside and within a short walking distance, my favourites are on the beach walk and at the safari commercial centre next to phase 3 & 5. I never tire of this place, its fab :-)More

Frynny,

MIXED BAG OF A HOLIDAY

We stayed privately at PARQUE SANTIAGO I but had passes to PARQUE SANTIAGO III AND IV . Firstly Ryanair lost my daughters wheelchair so the holiday didn't get off to a flying start. We had holidayed previously in Lanzarote and always privately rented. Myself and husband both had visited Tenerife when we were younger but never as a family. We travelled with a 16 yr, 13yr and 9yr old and friends with a 16 yr and 13yr. At first sight the complex looked pleasant lots of lovely flowers and it was clean, the pool area looked good too. We didn't arrive until the afternoon so we allowed the kids to quickly get on their swimwear and we headed to the pool at about 4pm. We knew that we had to pay for sunbeds £2.50 euros but didn't realise it was an extra £1 euro for a brolly and extra £1 euro for a pad ( we wernt happy about it ) but thought that the kids could just sit on their inflatables as they spend most of their time in the pool so we would get away with 2-3 beds a day my husband was not happy at all about paying as he thought it was wrong to charge and couldn't understand it !!! NOT THIS POOL the man in charge of the sunbeds was like a dictator he would not allow us to sit around the pool on our towels (we were not going to pay for 2 hrs!!! the kids threw a small bouncy ball to each other and were told off we were only ones in there , we then saw the long list of things you were not allowed to do Basically you were not allowed to have any fun !!! NO INFLATABLES AT ALL OR BALLS the 2 hours we were there all he did was tell everybody off , even moving a group of girls who were sat around the pool, forcing them to leave, now don't get me wrong an over crowed pool with balls and inflatables is not pleasant but common sense from the lifeguard and some safety/strictness is good but this was ridiculous !!! the pool was also saltwater and mixed with chemicals and made most of us ill in some way , from rashes/blisters sore eyes ,ears and lips and if you swallowed it or it went up your nose my god it hurt !!! . it was very strong and not pleasant at all. One of my children suffers from prickly heat and salt water really aggravates it. If we had been told about the no inflatable policy and the salt and the fact it was like a residential home !!! we would not of gone here but it was not advertised or mentioned so we were stuck there. Our apartment 222 was ok but quite dark with a narrow balcony that did not get the sun very much and looked onto a path that went to the beach. This was a rat run and motor way until 3.00-4.00 am in the morning , it was very noisy and we had terrible disturbed sleep. Then directly next to and below was a service door and all the staff gathered for their breaks/chats anytime from 8.30 am and as many as 6 at a time (they did not talk to each other but shout !!! so we were disturbed then as well so I was always feeling tired from lack of sleep !!! our eldest daughter was in the sitting room on what we thought was a sofa bed but it was just a normal sofa ? when we queried this we were told it was our fault as we had asked for this one ? and our friends in 161 should of been in ours as it was only for 4 persons and there one was 5-6 which we should of had ??? why then was there bedding left on the sofa and 5 of everything ?? we couldn't swap as it wouldn't of been fair and we had unpacked everything, surely this should of been pointed out on booking ? as we would of quite happily obliged as it would of been the sensible thing to do . The correspondence back wards and forwards from the management was very poor and this is why the mistakes were made and I do feel that we were "sold something unfairly ) as the information was so vague not once was it pointed out that this in fact is a residential complex with the odd privately owned apartment there, so it is deadly quiet but with many residents with yappy dogs barking at all hours and that is why the pool is privately managed and possible over treated with salt etc the apartment was ok apart from the dreadful stench all the time of sewage we had to buy loads of bleach and constantly flush the toilets to stop it, but it always smelt, it was well stocked with glasses and plates etc but had an electric fault that kept tripping the electric (manager did send an electrician but did nothing, not even replace the 8 bulbs that had blown !!!) we continued to flick the trip back all the time . This then ruined our holiday as our middle daughter slipped after coming in as the freezer had defrosted and left a puddle which she slipped on, so off to hospital we went and she ended up in a part cast and sling for 7 days. So we didn't really have the best time !!! The manager did however, after we complained about the salt water get us passes to parque Santiago III and IV and we were very glad of these and the sunbeds were all free and ample brollys that connected to the loungers these were really super complexes with all that was needed but also SALT water they didn't seem as strong but still not good for one of our daughters so it was tricky. The other problem was a very small water heater so never enough hot water for 5 people to have a shower and go out, we had to do it in stages and 2 people always got a cool or cold shower (usually me and my husband , never the kids !!! We did sneak into LA SIESTA HOTEL that was opposite us as it was a normal pool no salt at all !!!, just so that she could enjoy the pool, I felt bad but it had to be done as we felt so sorry for her. This seemed a nice hotel ? so we muddled through having to walk 5-7 mins to the other places but I don't know why the Santiago complexes all use salt ? its not the best thing !!! sad as they are fab places Eating out was very spread out and each day we found new areas to try but we did find it much more expensive than Lanzarote but we did find some lovely places though and all in all enough places to suit all. The drinks were really dear especially if you liked "long drinks " ie Bacardi and coke so I had to change my drinking habits as it really added to the bill !!! The weather was fabulous and not windy like Lanzarote so this was a plus. There was lots of things to do and they were all very close the only thing we did was AQUALAND and it was an amazing day out (although not nice for my daughter who had to wear a special plastic bag, and wasn't allowed down any of the big rides in case she hurt herself further !!!) the dolphin show was worth it on its own and not overly priced for photos and experiences. definitely shop about as all of the excursion sellers said it was a fixed price but I got a very good price. one problem was bikes, scooters, mobility scooters, etc whizzing about on the pavements you almost got mown down if you weren't careful, but a few days in to the holiday the police seemed to clamp down and it wasn't so bad. Great shops about and we found some lovely beaches you have to explore. WOULD I RETURN ?? yes I would go back to Tenerife but I would carefully research places with no salt pools or residential complexes for the elderly !!! and I would not book through TINA again as I felt cheated it wasn't cheap and I don't feel it was worth the money she charged and her lack of information ruined our holiday. It would be lovely for couples with no children who want to chill around the pool and a great location but it is no good for families who want to enjoy their time and have fun in the pool and the double bed was so hard my husband and I were crippled !! we had 6 blankets and we bought sun lounger toppers to go under the sheets and still it was bad !!!! but we all enjoyed the area and the beautiful sun oh and the hospital was only a 10 min walk and was very good as hospitals go !!! also great pharmacies with very helpful staff xxxxMore

Grest

Great location, spotless, great for kids, looking forward to returning next year. Only downside was the pool bar/eating area was understaffed so had a bit of a wait for drinks etc but can get everything at supermarket just across the road and bring in. Also no air con in rooms.More

Not bad not great

I booked this hotel for me and my grandmore for her birthday We got to the apartment and found there was no working lift to get to the room we had to climb 5 stairs and my nan has a bad foot Next day reception moved us to the apartments on the garden this was much better for my nan The swimming pool was good but you had to grab a subbed because people use to go at 8 in morning to put towels on the sunbeds Over all me and my nan and friends had a good holiday More
