This family-run hotel is plum in the middle of Playa de las Americas, so everything’s just a walk away. You’ll find bars and shops in pretty much every direction. In fact, there's a cafe attached to the front of the hotel, which serves tasty cakes and snacks. Plus, you’ll reach a black sandy beach in less than five minutes. And, despite the fact the apartments are in the heart of the action, they’re set back from the road - so it’s surprisingly quiet here.
You can’t miss the main entrance from the street – it’s all sleek black and silver. And the reception area follows suit, with a monochrome palette brightened up by splashes of colour and funky light fittings. The apartments themselves are roomy and bright, with terracotta-tiled floors, cream walls and light-wood furniture. The kitchenette has everything you need for self-catering, plus there’s a balcony or terrace where you can enjoy your meals.
Outside, there’s a curvy saltwater pool with shallow and deep ends – so you can paddle or plunge in. The bar out here sells breakfasts, lunches and snacks, plus there are sandwiches and cakes over in the café. Take a look at the ice-cream selection – there are so many flavours you could be here a while.
When you fancy eating out, this place has an Italian restaurant – Mamma Rosa. It’s really popular with guests, so book a table early. And, when you want to head out a little further, you’re in the right place. There’s a restaurant for every type of cuisine practically on the doorstep, and the bars and clubs of Veronicas are just around the corner.

This was my 3rd stay at the Colon and unfortunately it will be my last. During previous visits I’ve had various rooms on 2nd and 3rd floors. All very good. Therefore I wasn’t too worried to given room 115 on the ground floor. This room is situated facing the kid’s playground, with a fine view of the gas tank and the cleaner’s tea room. The room is so dark you need your lights on at all times, the back of room faces onto what can only be described as a subway, whereupon you will hear the coming and going of every guest into the apartments. Most importantly it’s literally the closest room to reception. I did ask at reception if they had a room on a higher floor, but I was advised this wasn’t possible even though I was staying for a fortnight. What I found to be a source of entertainment and bewilderment was why; the Spanish seem to put everyone with any type of disablement onto the higher floors, and the likes of me (probably the youngest and fittest in the hotel) on the ground floor? Furthermore what intrigued me more was how previously disabled and in need of assistance guests, whom I had observed being helped from the aircraft were now able to ascend 3 flights of stairs complete with heavy cases. Is the Colon pool filled with youth giving orbs like movie Cocoon? The other great source of entertainment is the Oklahoma land rush for sun beds, which takes place at the pool every day at 0845. A spectacle to behold and a must to take part in, at least once during your stay. This event takes place due to the lack of available sun beds around the pool. The pool itself only receives sun to one side the other being in constant shade due to the building. The remaining room is further curtailed due to an industrial laundry, which backs onto the pool and is situated at the bottom pool area. This laundry comes complete with numerous washing machines, whirring all day and massive tumble dryers belching out hot air fibres which will get up your nose and give you nausea in no time at all. There are signs stating no kept sun beds, however this doesn’t seem to deter people. Therefore due to the lack of available poolside beds and a poor room I won’t be revisiting the Colon therefore it’s adios amigo dear Colon 2More

Good location, beach and shops near apartments, free wifi in reception, I think apartments is for the older holiday maker. Decorted in a older Spanish style, everything you need in room, rooms very clean and pool area the cleanest I have seen, great care is taken every morning in cleaning pool area, pool water could be warmer. Would stay again, everything good.More

Wonderful apartments. Good check-in with friendly staff. The apartments are clean, well maintained, with good facilities to cater for yourself. Excellent location right at the heart of the town but still quiet enough to relax.More

A very nice reception area in dark tiles with chrome trim gave a classy feeling welcome to the entrance. Rooms were standard self catering size, clean and tidy. Guests have to pay extra for TV and safe but this is expected in a lot of hotels and apartments. We had a problem with the safe not unlocking one evening but a member of staff arrived in 5 minutes to sort the problem (flat batteries in the lock mechanism). The beach is a 2 minute walk away. There are a good selection of restaurants close by especially if you turn left on leaving the complex and also round the corner. We had breakfast twice in the cafe in the reception area and found it to be of good quality with English bacon! Each item is selected individually so you can tailor the size of your meal to suit yourself. The pool area has plenty of sunbeds for the number of guests when we were there but the management should enforce the rule of not placing towels on sunbeds then disappearing. The pool bar menu was good as well and seemed to be supplied by Mamma Rosas, the restaurant backing onto the pool area. This was also of high quality and 3 days a week they offer a special - BBQ, chicken and mojo sauce etc. If you want a sunny balcony DON'T ask for a pool view because they are on the north side of the building and don't get any sun. Overall we were very happy with the apartments and would happily stay there again.More
