Colon II Apartments

This family-run hotel is plum in the middle of Playa de las Americas, so everything’s just a walk away. You’ll find bars and shops in pretty much every direction. In fact, there's a cafe attached to the front of the hotel, which serves tasty cakes and snacks. Plus, you’ll reach a black sandy beach in less than five minutes. And, despite the fact the apartments are in the heart of the action, they’re set back from the road - so it’s surprisingly quiet here.

You can’t miss the main entrance from the street – it’s all sleek black and silver. And the reception area follows suit, with a monochrome palette brightened up by splashes of colour and funky light fittings. The apartments themselves are roomy and bright, with terracotta-tiled floors, cream walls and light-wood furniture. The kitchenette has everything you need for self-catering, plus there’s a balcony or terrace where you can enjoy your meals.

Outside, there’s a curvy saltwater pool with shallow and deep ends – so you can paddle or plunge in. The bar out here sells breakfasts, lunches and snacks, plus there are sandwiches and cakes over in the café. Take a look at the ice-cream selection – there are so many flavours you could be here a while.

When you fancy eating out, this place has an Italian restaurant – Mamma Rosa. It’s really popular with guests, so book a table early. And, when you want to head out a little further, you’re in the right place. There’s a restaurant for every type of cuisine practically on the doorstep, and the bars and clubs of Veronicas are just around the corner.

Below expectations

This was my 4th stay at this hotel. I decided to pay extra for a 1 bedroom apartment this time to avoid the constant door slamming noise throughout the night that you get here. I requested a room at the sunny front side of the hotel but was allocated one in the dingy back corner (121). The room was pretty shabby- mildew on the net curtain in the bedroom, the curtain didn't fit the windiw so I had to roll a blanket onto the window sill, no lamp on the headboard. There obviously used to be one as in the other rooms I've stayed in here, but had been removed and replaced with blocks of wood. Because the apartment had no sunlight we had to have the lights on all the time as well as blankets on the bed. A first for the Canaries and ive been here in January! We were woken up first thing every morning by the maids clattering and moving every stuck of furniture they could find also. Most mornings we just went out early to get away from the headache inducing noise of this. The food was good in the pool bar and front cafe. Had none of the aforementioned problems with the wifi. We ate in Mama Rosas one night and the food and service was excellent,so would definitely recommend there. Not sure if I will be back to this hotel. More

Pay for what you get

Stayed here for a week booked as a cheap last minute deal through Thomson. Positives: Central location, only a10 minute walk to the Safari centre where the nicer bars and restaurants are Very clean with daily maid service and pool area cleaned every morning Free wifi in hotel reception Decently priced menu at the pool bar including toasties, pizza, omelettes... Etc Negatives: Extremely uncomfortable beds and pillows - would recommend taking your own from home! Very loud corridors with doors constantly slamming Guests queue every morning at 8.45 for sun beds - there was a mad rush for he 'best spots' and umbrellas - if you weren't amongst the crowd you would put have access to a sun lounger for the day Overall though I would stay at this hotel again if the price was right. Ideal for families or couples with a nice sized pool.More

Ideal, would return

Booked Colon II for a week with our 10 month old baby. Easy check in, studio room clean and well equipped. Travel cot provided was fine. Kitchen well equipped for a small studio, had a microwave which was a bonus for making baby food. Pool area very clean and well equipped and not too busy. Free wifi at reception which I don't agree was slow as a precious reviewer said. Daily maid service, and apartment communal areas always seemed to be getting cleaned! Pool bar not too expensive. We ate in mamma Rosas one night as the weather was so bad that we couldn't venture out. Food and service were lovely and not too expensive. Would recommend Loro Parque if visiting with kids. We were told at the welcome meeting that there were enough sun loungers for every guest in the hotel and that there was therefore a no reservation policy. However we found that many guests were standing outside the roped off area at 0845 and that if you wanted an umbrella (which we did with a baby) you did have to join them. Only one tiny complaint - we were frequently woken up (and more importantly so was our baby) by guests slamming their doors extremely loudly. I don't know if this is because the doors are fire doors but it was very annoying! Would also be good to have access To a high chair in the room. A great wee place, would return. More

Average place

Clean room, paid for a tv in my second week as the weather was poor, terrible tv reception and reception staff didn't want to know. I also asked for an additional chair so my wife and I could both sit down. No chance! WiFi was lobby only and slow.More

Sean A,

We will be back!

Pleasantly surprised. Our studio was small and compact ,but beautifully clean along with the rest of the building. Kitchen is very tiny, not recommended if you want to cook every night, but is adequate.the staff are great and very efficient. Room hair dryer gave up on me and was replaced within the hour. The pool was being cleaned and several tiles came loose, they were replaced almost immediately. It is situated very close to all facilities. Will definitely return.More
