Sea views, elegant interiors and a great pool scene make the Arona Gran a hotel worth returning to.
The Arona Gran comes highly recommended. This hotel has earned more Thomson Gold Medals than any other hotel in the Canaries, which means it's consistently rated as top of its class by Thomson customers. It's easy to see how the hotel has received its praise. It overlooks a little pebble beach in Los Cristianos and offers up views of the harbour. What’s more, the resort’s main sandy stretch is just a 15-minute walk along a coastal promenade. It runs through to Playa De Las Americas, and there are cafés and shops along the way.
You’ll find two pools at the hotel, plus a separate children’s pool. On the food front, breakfasts, lunches and dinners are help-yourself affairs, while lunch can be paid for at the poolside à la carte restaurant, which has a salad bar and a grill.
Bedrooms here have just been refurbished to include modern soft furnishings and flatscreen TVs. If you really want to indulge, upgrade to a sea-facing room. As well as great views, you can look forward to special extras like a welcome drink and half a bottle of wine waiting in your room when you arrive.

More low-key than its playful neighbour Playa De Las Americas, you can take things easy here. So step into a more sedate pace of life. While away your afternoon people-watching from one of the many pavement cafés. Stroll around the old town where you can browse the upbeat bazaars. Or get busy in the bustling town centre - where sleek shopping malls, al fresco restaurants and bright bars greet you. If you like a bit of banter with the locals, head to the animated Sunday market. Barter for everything from watches and jewellery to clothes and music, and set the world to rights while you’re at it. But if your idea of holiday heaven is big on the beachlife, spend your time sinking into the soft golden sands of the main beach. Float out from the shores on a pedalo and dip in and out of the warm, inviting waters. Or snake your way around the bay and you’ll arrive at one of Tenerife’s top beaches, Las Vistas Beach. As far as food is concerned, you’ll be spoilt for choice for places to eat. Restaurants line the promenade and town centre, and the place is peppered with friendly bars offering a laid-back nightlife.

The hotel was great and N/year eve party was fantastic, but unfortunately the flight was a nightmare the seats were so close to each other it was very claustrophobic. So much so I asked the rep in the hotel if it was possible to upgrade to a extra leg... more on this review
