Family holiday Paradise!

If your trip involves children then this hotel is amazing! There are plenty of activities for the children throughout the day and evening and happy children = happy parents. We went on holiday as a large group of 22 and all had a wonderful stay at the Fanabe. The staff are really friendly and the rooms are spotless, being cleaned every day. The food is out of this world, and there's plenty of choice for everyone. There are stations that cook fresh in front of you, aswell as the ready prepared salads and usual dishes. The hotel is a short walk away from the seafront, which has a few lovely restaurants and karaoke bars, however the hotel is situated on a hill, so not great if you have walking difficulties. More

Great Hotel

Just returned from 11 nights at the Fanabe Costa Sur, This is a lovely hotel with good amenities. We travelled as a family of four, my wife and two children aged 3 and 6. Checkin was quick and painless, you still have to pay for the safe in the rooms which is a little out dated but not an issue. I emailed prior to arriving asking for a low floor and a pool view and this was delivered without an issue. The hotel is very clean with 1 main pool and two kids pools around the side, at the top of the hotel is an adults only area with another 2 small pools. We stayed half board so paid for our drinks which were reasonably priced and breakfast and dinner where fine with a good selection of foods available. My only issue was that at dinner they cover up the water machines forcing you to purchase water which I feel is a little unfair, i got told off for bringing my water bottle in on day 2 and at 1.95 for a small bottle of water I thought this was a bit steep. The entertainment staff work very hard here and both my children loved the activities and mini disco, the adult entertainment does vary greatly in standard so we nipped off to other hotels in the evening sometimes to way different shows. Staff were pleasant but watch out for the lady in reception with long dark hair selling excursions she has a fierce temper on her.... if you want to wind her up just try and take an excursion leaflet from behind her when she is talking to someone... :0) All in all this is a good hotel and I'd happily return for another holiday here.More

Nice break

Visited on in July for a week with my husband and two children aged 13 and 8. When we checked in, we were given the room key and told to come back later if we wanted to rent the safe (not sure why they couldn't give me the key there and then!) which I found a bit disappointing. ROOM....Our room was quite big, two twins pushed together, a sofa bed and a single "pull out" bed. These were all made up and ready for us to use which was great; however I immediately regretted booking this room as I don't think it was suitable for four (no fault of the hotel). THE POOL....The pool area looked lovely but it was far too busy. As we went away during the summer holidays, the hotel was packed and this meant hardly any room in the pool. Sunbeds were a nightmare too (the hotel do not allow you to reserve the sunbeds- if you do, the towels are removed- which is good). Now because of this, people start queuing for the beds at about 8.30 and the staff open the pool area from 9ish. I had some laughs in the morning watching guests practically race from the queuing area to the beds once the pool area was opened- it was pathetic....but so funny to watch.....but if you wasn't in the queue, you wasn't going to get a bed. We only stayed at the poolside in our hotel for one day as my youngest cut his foot on what I can only think were broken tiles in the swimming pool. Luckily we had family staying at the sister hotel (COSTA ADEJE GRAN HOTEL) and this pool was much bigger and much nicer so we spent the other days there. FOOD.....We had booked half board and we wasn't disappointed. I thought the food was lovely. Something for everyone. Really enjoyed it. ENTERTAINMENT......really good and enjoyable....something for everyone....great ;) It was a lovely hotel- I would go back but in the quieter months- certainly not when busy.........I would definitely go the the GRAN HOTEL (sister hotel) in the busier months tho, as the hotel is big enough to cope with lots of guests. A great holiday in a great hotel

2 adults and a 12 year old on this all-inclusive holiday from July/Aug 16. Arrived at the hotel just before 10pm and the reception checked us in extremely quickly and then asked us if we would like to eat before the restaurant closed at 10. They allowed us to leave our bags in their secure area and we were able to go in and have a bite to eat rather than have to go out to find something at that time. We were given Rm 185 on the 1st floor which doesn't have a pool view and at first this was a bit of a disappointment but then we found out that later at night and in the morning, we were located at the quieter bit of the hotel so a lie in or early night could be had no bother. If you wanted to change rooms, I am sure they would have done it without any problems. Rooms very clean and spacious, British TV channels available if you want that and the blackout curtains made the room very dark and comfortable to sleep. Restaurant: breakfast - plenty of choice (cereal, European, hot, fruit, etc) but if you leave it till about 0930 to go down, it is very busy with limited availability of tables the staff try their best to get people served and clear tables but it looks quite a battle for them. Lunch - lots of choice again and the salad options were excellent. Also tied in with this is the Pool Snack Bar which although it states opening hours are 1230 - 1630, in reality it was opened from about 1100 - 1800 and was excellent for our 12 year old as it meant he could play in the pool all day and just snack when he chose rather than getting changed out of swimming shorts to sit down with us for a proper lunch. Dinner - plenty of variation and although the info on hotel says men should wear trousers, this is definitely not the case. You will always find something to eat and the excellent salad option is available again. Summary - no need to worry about getting a table for lunch or dinner as the staff take you to one on arrival. Pool and loungers - really good size main pool, with 2 splash pools also on rooftop and 2 other smaller pools in the other lounging area which is more suitable for small kids. Although it says no loungers to be reserved, you need to have your tactics right. It seems to be that people start queuing at 0800 but don't get into the pool area till about 0845. If you go down for 0845 at the latest then you should be OK but by 0900, you will be doing well to get what you want. Don't put towels on the loungers and then disappear, there are members of staff who will come and start lifting them if no-one is there and your lounger will be taken by someone willing to sit there. So if possible always have someone to stay with your loungers. By 1000 though it is fine to leave them and not have to worry about removal. Also, good suggestion would be to go on opposite of restaurant as you don't get the sun until about 1200 but then have it for the rest of the day, whereas the restaurant side has sun straight away but loses it about 1600 if not at the pool side (row behind). Lots of games like water polo, aqua bike spin, aqua splash. Kids entertainment was really good and was really picking up when we were due to leave as hotel was getting busier. Rooftop area was excellent and very peaceful. Bar up there with 2 splash pools and plenty of really comfortable loungers with an amazing view. Kids are allowed in rooftop area but ideally they need to be quiet as it is suited for adults. Drinks and snacks are available also as there is a rooftop bar. Entertainment - bar at front of hotel had singer every night and you can sit outside or inside with plenty of tables but the ones outside and obviously busier. Pool bar had various different shows and was good for kids. Mario was the best entertainer from the hotel, always 100% effort and cheery. -1 floor has a xbox & playstation, small soft play area and 2 pool tables, great for the kids if they need a bit of a break from the sunshine. Bar - staff always available to serve and extremely friendly and interactive, especially Justo and Christian, most of them time we didn't need to ask for drinks just caught their eye and our drinks were at our table. Plenty of AI options although the pre-made cocktails from the machine were average and maybe lacked a bit of alcohol. Overall - will definitely stay again. Facilities are excellent and you want for nothing in the hotel. Great atmosphere and our 12 year old made some great friends and spent a large part of his time running about with them and the hotel are comfortable with this as long as they are not causing trouble.More

Lovely hotel

Arrived at mid day checked in very quick room ready two adults and 17 year old room large very clean disappointed as only a small sofa bed for my daughter. Complained to reception moved next day to a family room with a single bed which was much better. Rooms very clean towels changed daily and sheets changed every couple of days. Several English channels on tv and good quality air con controls by bedside table next to light switches. Work going on updating doors furniture etc but no disturbance. Room overlooked pool which was very noisy, if you wanted a bed by the pool you had to queue at 8 o clock till gates opened at 845 it was then a free for all, no chance of a bed after that. Lovely roof terrace with plunge pools which was suppose to be adult only but a lot of children up there making noise, but you could always get a bed no matter what time. Pity hotel didn't stick to adult only rules would have been much better as children have two new pools at the front to use. Food ok only half board breakfast good but evening meals very repetitive, lots of fish. Bar prices expensive, but service good. Good friendly helpful staff. Area good lots of places to eat and drink and reasonable prices. Would return hopefully roof terrace adults onlyMore
