Fanabe Costa Sur Hotel

This hotel has got the lot. A trio of pools ticks off rooftop and garden numbers, while the restaurants include a buffet place and an à la carte pool bar. The location aims high, too - it sits in a high-end postcode that comes with a beach.

Sitting in an upmarket corner of Tenerife, the Fanabe Costa Sur Hotel looks out over the sparkling sapphire seas. In fact, you’re just a short stroll down a steep slope from the honey-coloured sands of both Playa Fanabe and Playa del Duque. And there’s a sprinkling of shops, bars and restaurants even closer.

It’s not a big brash resort though. Far from it. Here, you’re at the heart of a restful residential area, where most of the 5 star hotels on the island congregate. From the moment you set eyes on the Fanabe though, you probably won’t want to venture far. Sat in gorgeous green grounds, you’re most definitely in for a treat here. You’ll know you’re onto a good thing as soon as you step into the lobby. Light, luminous and lavish, it’s a chic affair all round. We’re talking glossy marble floors. Oh-so inviting sofas. And floor-to-ceiling glass windows that overlook one of the eye-catching pool areas.

Talking of which, you’re totally spoilt for choice in the swimming stakes. With three pools to choose from, you’ll have to do the rounds before you decide on a favourite. If it’s jaw-dropping views you want, head for the roof terrace where two of the plunge pools live. Or for a truly tropical setting, there's the main pool sitting in the grounds, surrounded by exotic plants and swishing palms. Rather keep active? No problem. Keep up with your exercise routine at the fully equipped gym, which also offers aerobics lessons and massages. Join in the fun and games with the entertainment team. Or choose from an exhaustive list of sports that includes minigolf, tennis and football. However you work up an appetite, when you’re ready to eat the buffet restaurant offers up international favourites, with on-the-spot cooking stations a mainstay. There's also an a la carte lunchtime eatery by the pool, and you can tuck in to sandwiches at the lobby bar.

Dont be put off by some reviews....

My husband and I visited this hotel for ten days recently on a half board basis and had a lovely stay. I had emailed the hotel prior to our visit asking for a quiet room with a sea view and thats what we got albeit a partial sea view. The room was adequate and had comfy beds, flat screen tv with english channels and fridge but could do with some tea making facilities. The food was the same you get in most half/full/ai establishments but dinner was the best. We had no probems with anything being cold or half cooked etc and my husband especially enjoyed the stews/casseroles. The breakfast was a bit manic at times but we always managed to find somewhere to sit and eat. Get some new toasters as the static ones are absolute rubbish!! The pool area was kept nice and clean and the lifeguard lifted towels occassionally if people left them and then disappeared for ages, which i think is fair enough although the pool was never crowded. The animation team worked hard especially Sol but we didnt really get involved. We didn't stay in at night to watch the entertainment so can't really comment on this. I like the central area of Torviscas so this hotel was a bit far out for us especially after being out at night and then having to walk all the way back up the hill. It was a nice, clean hotel with hard working, corteous staff and we would recommend it.More

Second time there

My husband and myself returned yesterday from our second visit to Fanabe we agree places are looking a bit tired but we saw painters going into vacant rooms to decorate them they can only do rooms that are empty so it will take a while to do the whole hotel in the mean time new curtains have been put up and the old orange bedspreads have been replaced with new white ones. The staff work there backsides off for you they are so friendly except for one lady carnt remember her name but it begins with the letter E she was so rude to all the English guests but chattered and smiled to the Spanish the food was good and hot we didn't as other reviews have said have a cold meal while we were there . Gents have to wear long pants at dinner but they only have to wear jeans or any long pants we were AL and we certainly got are moneys worth only downside the weather was bad 2 days but that's not the hotels fault. We woudnt hesitate going back people who have slated this hotel should just book 5 star but they would probably find fault with this as wellMore

Not a four star as stated

Having just returned from this hotel spending ten days was far too long .we travelled with our disabled daughter ,this was definitely the worst holiday for us in a long time . On arrival we were given an adapted room ,reception staff were friendly but didn't give information on room air con ,fridge ,had to go back to ask where both were ,fridge wasn't great , On looking out of balcony we were greeted with a blocked view of overgrown triffids ,this also made it dark at all times ,looking from pool it was only room with growth . We went to restaurant ,it was so so busy ,with a screaming daughter ,and not knowing how buffet style works it was very stressful for us . Staff were not that helpful ,breakfast ,well that was an experience ,we had to look for the cutlery ,and again it was free for all ,it was like a Butlin camp ,each meal was a feeding frenzy. Evening wear for men, long trousers, what a joke ,my husband one of the smartest dressed ,it definitely was not four star rating ,many were in jeans or some type of long trousers . Not the place to travel with a disabled person in wheelchair ,too many hills . Gym not open until after 10.30 am Hairdressers - well that again was an experience I would not repeat ,I had a wash / blow dry ,15euros ,was told on paying 18euro glad she wrote it down on making app ,I came out looking worse than when I went in . Entertainment was dated , Room was bare ,toilet had a broken flush ,shower curtain was mouldy ,held by a plastic pole half hanging off ,after four days ,no one shower gels soap was replenished ,light not working over sink ,one of the worst rooms we have stayed in . Pool was so busy ,all sunbeds so close together we didn't use at all ,not good for disabled , We hated our holiday here so much ,I was counting down the days , We have been spoilt by our holidays to USA.More

2nd vist to this hotel , nice hotel

this was our 2nd visit to this hotel and we decided to go back because we liked it last time , we love the sun terrace , but I was impressed when the hotel firstly left a box of chocolates and some bottles of water in the room for when we came back to the room because we made a return visit , small token I know but its nice they recognise that you've been before , plus it was my birthday on the Thursday and when we returned to the room to be greeted with a chilled bottle of champagne in a ice bucket and a note wishing me a happy birthday which was a nice touch and a pleasant surprise , the food is nice , gets a bit repetitive but nice , my Mrs is very fussy and she managed to eat something , I've got to say im not a cake lover but the cakes in the sweet section were really nice , there staff were always friendly and one waitress I wish I got her name , she had black curly bob hairstyle was particuly friendly I wish we could remember her name because she asked my wife what drink she wanted and she wanted a vodka and orange with more orange than vodka , she brought her a non alcoholic aperitif aswell which was nice and I hope the hotel read this and pass on my appreciation , the entertainment is not fantastic but its ok , we wish we stayed a bit longer now , but all in all I would recommend this hotelMore
