This grand hotel gives you three pools and a setting just 5-minutes’ walk from the beach.
This place was given a makeover in 2014. It has a grand, colonial feel and is edged by tropical gardens, at the centre of which lie two huge pools. And it’s less than a 5-minute walk from a sandy bay and the smart shops and restaurants in Playa Fanabé.
Breakfast and dinner are covered in the buffet restaurant, while lunch comes courtesy of the pool bar. Both have large terraces so you can eat outside. The massage menu in the spa is well worth a look, too.
Book Bed and Breakfast between 1st March 2016 and 24th May 2016, and for any nights of your holiday that fall between 8th June 2016 and 15th June 2016, you'll receive a free Half Board upgrade. All nights outside of this period will be charged at the standard board upgrade supplement. The cost of your board upgrade, if applicable, will be averaged out and shown on a per person, per night basis, across the full duration of your holiday.
The restaurant serves buffet breakfast and dinner with show cooking and themed evenings. For eating al fresco, there's a large outdoor terrace. There's an extra charge for dinner if you're staying Bed and Breakfast.
Stylish and comfortable - these traditional-style suites with modern touches benefit from views of the pool. They also come with a balcony or terrace for that extra space outdoors. Additional features include air-conditioning, a plasma TV and Wi-Fi. Plus you'll also receive a fruit basket and water in your room on arrival. Just so you know your room can sleep 3 with 1 extra bed in the lounge.
Stylish and comfortable, these traditional-style twin rooms with modern touches come with a balcony for that extra space outdoors. Additional features include, air-conditioning, satellite TV and Wi-Fi. These sleep 2.
We really enjoyed our stay here and have no hesitation in recommending it. However, there were a couple of observations more for the benefit of the hotel but might be important to some people so Iâll deal with those at the end. Review is mainly about the hotel but have included some âout and aboutâ thoughts as well.
Check in/reception â efficient but maybe a bit corporate. Nothing to complain about really though.
Room â we had a suite (238A) which gave us a separate âloungeâ area as well as a bedroom. Lovely bathroom with his and hers sinks and probably the best shower weâve ever seen in a hotel. Bed was basically two singles pushed together but wasnât an issue for us. Masses of wardrobe space and loads of hangers too. TV was good although the sound and picture were out of sync all the time we were there but we rarely had it on.
Breakfast â Excellent! Plenty of choice and the friendly chefs who prepared the omelettes and crepes were exactly the cheerful sort you want to see at breakfast. Full marks to them. Do the smokers really have to inflict their habit on the rest of us at breakfast though, even if you are sitting outside??
Lunch/Dinner â only had lunch once at the pool bar and whilst it was ok weâve had better. Never ate dinner at the hotel as we ate out every night so reviews on all the restaurants we visited elsewhere if anyone is interested.
Pool â or pools to be precise. Three of them, one a rooftop pool. The pools are heated which was actually quite nice. Plenty of sunbeds to go round but as usual there are those ignorant people who throw a towel onto a sunbed then disappear for the day!
Entertainment â as we were out every night we didnât see a lot of it but there was the obligatory Spanish dancing act, who were very good, and a variety of competent singers and duos performing fairly middle of the road songs every night. Created a nice atmosphere to enjoy an evening drink.
Bar â staff were very good as were all the staff but the bar was one of our minor niggles.
Cleanliness â superb throughout the hotel. Canât be faulted.
Staff â amongst the friendliest and best weâve met on our travels. A credit to the hotel and the management should be proud of them.
WiFi â excellent and free. Good signal everywhere in the hotel.
Out and about
The hotel is about ten minutes walk downhill to the promenade and ideally placed with a well stocked supermarket just over the road.
Beach â large beach of black sand. Was a bit rocky in places so take care when paddling at high tide. Most sunbeds run by hotels adjoining their section of the beach and were free to those guests but expensive we thought at â¬9 per day each. It might be worth considering giving the beach a miss at weekends as it gets busy with locals and the bars crank up the sound systems making for a real racket all day. There are hawkers selling tat every few seconds which gets annoying after a while.
Promenade â great for a walk. As you approach from the hotel turn right for a quieter walk with high quality hotels, bars and restaurants. Turn left and you come to Fanabe centre with some very good mid-priced restaurants. The further you walk to the marina that way though, the more down market everything becomes.
Now for those observations . They didnât really affect us but as I said they may be important to some people.
Late arrival â we arrived late as our flight was delayed. Too late for the restaurant so it would have been a nice touch by the hotel to offer us some food. It happens at other hotels we have stayed at.
Bar â the staff were great without exception but we felt that on some nights there werenât enough of them and it took a while to get served. It might be because we always got back after 10pm and their priority at that time seemed to be tidying up rather than serving.
Checkout â we extended the checkout time for our room as we had a late flight but we still had to settle the bar bill etc at noon. Which meant leaving the pool to go and pay and making sure we had cash or cards with us to buy drinks or lunch for the rest of the day. Why not settle up at the end when handing the keys in? The hotel have our credit card details after all.
As I said at the start, there was nothing to put us off and we have no hesitation in recommending this friendly hotel.More
This hotel is a gem!
We stayed at the Colon Guanahani from 3rd - 17th May, 2016 and absolutely loved it!
My husband is 33 and and I am 31 so it's not all oldies who stay at this fabulous hotel ;-)
The hotel is situated in Costa Adeje which is a lovely area. It is close to the promenade, Parque del Duque (a shopping complex), and there are bus stops and a taxi rank near by should you wish to travel further a field.
We booked a standard room and emailed ahead to request a 'quiet room' after reading some of the reviews stating road noise.
Our room was 127A on the ground floor. What a beautiful room - tastefully decorated in calming colours with a walk in wardrobe. The bathroom was fantastic with the best shower ever! The room opened out until a patio with two sun loungers, a table and two chairs. Because we are on the ground floor we also had a bit of a garden so we had loads of space.
At this stage I must note that all the standard rooms are on quieter side roads so please disregard the other reviews who complained of a noisy road. In two weeks we never had any traffic noise.
Rooms are spotlessly cleaned every day. Towels and bedding are changed as per your request at check in. The hotel also provide you with two pool towels per person which can be changed daily at the pool kiosk. We were very impressed with this. This is a hotel that listen to their customers!
We stayed half board so we had Breakfast and Dinner at the hotel. The dining room is large and there are plenty of outside tables. We ate outside most evenings. The food is amazing! Fresh, delicious and plenty of choice. We loved it! On a few occasions we swapped our dinner for lunch, served at the pool bar, and still got 3 courses! Well done to the chefs who amazed us every day with the quality and presentation of food!
The hotel has 3 swimming pools, all heated. One is a rooftop pool. Although the hotel was fully booked we always managed to get sunbeds. Quite a few people still reserve them in the morning but we never struggled to find two.
The entertainment in the evening can be a bit hit or miss but the hotel is close to the promenade and so we often went for a walk after dinner.
A special mention must go to Duo Hand in Hand who play on Saturday evenings. They are amazingly talented and reminded us of 'The Civil Wars'. Do not miss them! We'd love to know if they have a Facebook page so we can follow them!
Although it was not important for us the hotel has excellent WiFi and in the odd occasion when we did use it we found it to be very quick in whatever part of the hotel we were.
We must finish this review with a big thank you to the staff team at Colon Guanahani! You make this beautiful hotel a home! Welcoming, friendly, professional - you always take the time to acknowledge each and every guest. Everyone is happy at their work. We enjoyed seeing you everyday and were truly sad to say goodbye. Thank you!
Colon Guanahani is a gem! Book now, you won't regret it!More

This is our second visit to this adult only hotel and it wont be our last. Its a great hotel in a great area of Costa Adeja just a short walk from the beach and restaurants. From the moment you arrive you are so well looked after, the whole hotel is spotless and the bedrooms are so comfortable with great beds. The first time we visited we booked a poolside room where we had a large patio leading out onto a sun deck this time we took a room overlooking the street, great balcony for a bit of people watching. The food is very good with plenty of choice and there is a hot grill where the chef prepares everything from breakfast eggs to steaks. All in all an excellent hotel.More
Great hotel, good location and absolutely spotless.
Everything about this hotel is great, the staff are very friendly and helpfully, reception even printed our boarding passes.
We only had breakfast, but there was a good choice of both hot and buffet cold food, we did use the poolside cafe a couple of lunchtimes and yet again the food and service were very good.
As an adult only hotel some of the other guests were older and maybe because of that the pool areas were very quiet at times you could almost hear a pin drop. Maybe some relaxing back ground music was needed. We did notice that during our stay the age groups were getting younger , so please do not let it put you off.
This is an excellent hotel which I will definitely return to in the near future.More
