Colon Guanahani Hotel

This grand hotel gives you 2 huge pools and a setting just 5-minutes’ walk from the beach.

This place was given a makeover in 2014. It has a grand, colonial feel and is edged by tropical gardens, at the centre of which lie 2 huge pools. And it’s less than a 5-minute walk from a sandy bay and the smart shops and restaurants in Playa Fanabé.

Breakfast and dinner are covered in the buffet restaurant, while lunch comes courtesy of the pool bar. Both have large terraces so you can eat outside. The massage menu in the spa is well worth a look, too.

escape from scottish winter blues

Frankly this medium sized 4 star hotel is worthy of 5 stars and the reason is because of the excellence of its food, the friendliness, helpfulness and efficiency of all its staff and pristine cleanliness throughout. This hotel is centrally situated in the resort and a 10 minute walk will take you to shops, supermarkets and the beach. The bedrooms are modern, spacious and contain all the requisites you will need. Turning to the food, to set you up for your day the breakfasts consist of a wide choice of fresh juices, fruit, cereals, hot food where eggs and bacon can be prepared to your own specifications and a good variety of rolls and bread (Even Lipton's English tea is available) For us, the highlight was definitely the dinner and the beauty is that you can dine anytime you like. Delicious fish is always on offer which could be swordfish, perch, turbot, mussels, prawns to name but a few and is cooked in front of your eyes plus chicken, turkey, entrecote steak etc. later you can help yourself to the hot trays of veg., pasta and various other meats. The desserts can be ice cream, fresh fruit, cakes and gateaux all to further tempt the taste buds. There is nightly entertainment and the standard is well above average for a foreign hotel. We would recommend this hotel in the highest possible terms. It might not be one of the largest hotels in the resort but we reckon that this works to its advantage.More

Chill out

We have stayed here 3 times over the past four years for a winter week break at the beginning of December. The staff are helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet is to die for and lunch at the pool bar is delicious. The hotel is very clean and welcoming. The rooms are bright and airy and the walk in shower is excellent. It is a lovely hotel to chill out in with no noise or children round the pools.More

Fantastic tapas restaurant

I would agree with everything said before but want to make future visitors aware of the fantastic tapas restaurant by the pool. The manager Flávio was charming but most people at the hotel are on half board so stick to the buffet and they are missing a treat! For a small extra payment you can have great food. My friend and I shared 6 dishes at about £5 each and that was plenty. We tried lots of top restaurants including La Cupula in Grand Nivaria and this was our favourite. Try La Pergola for dinner one evening. You definitely won't regret it.More

Relaxing

Stayed from 4th Jan to 11th Jan 2015. Hotel is very small and there are a lot of Germans. On arrival we didnt get any welcome drink or even a bellboy to help to our room with the luggage which is not good. Just someone on reception gave us room cards and told where to go. No fruit in our room either but whilst we were there seems everyone else did. Room was lovely even though the view was not good and I did ask for a high floor and got a ground floor, free WiFi in room was good. Walking wardrobe was lovely and so was the bathroom, beds fantastic. Food was very good at breakfast everything you want. Evening meals a bit of a mis match it states to dress according but men with jeans and hoodys on for an evening meal is unacceptable and so is no flip flops at breakfast. Staff are quick to whip away your plates so be warned. Standards need to stepped up. Adults only hotel was lovely. On the whole a nice holiday and good hotel just a few little niggles but I would return. Not for the younger people more of a older persons hotel looking for a relaxing quiet holiday. I did email the holiday with the niggles but no reply which again is not good service.More

Christmas Sunshine

We went on boxing day for a week. Hotel was adults only and very nice. Helpful, charming staff. Large rooms with plenty of storage space. Ours had a balcony and overlooked the pool. Big bathroom had a bath with shower over and a shower cubicle with a power shower....lovely. We were given a xmas present from the hotel and on New Years Eve after an amazing dinner we were given party bags which contained party hats, streamers, fun necklaces and noisy blowers. A photographer had been hired by the hotel for the evening who took photos of all couples, this was a free service and free photo. Outside there are two swimming pools with plenty of sunbeds and a roof top pool with jacuzzis and decking. Everything was kept spotlessly clean.More
