This grand hotel gives you two huge pools and a setting just 5-minutes’ walk from the beach.
This place was given a makeover in 2014. It has a grand, colonial feel and is edged by tropical gardens, at the centre of which lie two huge pools. And it’s less than a 5-minute walk from a sandy bay and the smart shops and restaurants in Playa Fanabé.
Breakfast and dinner are covered in the buffet restaurant, while lunch comes courtesy of the pool bar. Both have large terraces so you can eat outside. The massage menu in the spa is well worth a look, too.

Good for a short stay
We stayed at the Colon Guanahani for two weeks in April 2015. It is a good 3-4 star adult only hotel, similar standard to most others in the Canaries. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. The hotel is spotlessly clean. It is quite a small hotel, which is evident after a couple of dayâs stay. There is only the one restaurant and the food is generally ok. If you eat late (as I tend to do when on holiday) then itâs not very fresh as food is left until the serving trays are empty and only replaced if itâs before 9.00pm or if someone requests it. This resulted in food being left for long periods with a skin forming on top. Not very appetizing. Sweets were not replaced at all after about 8.30pm. Breakfast was busier than evenings and therefore food quality was much better; refreshed much quicker and therefore kept hot. The only evening bar was the extremely loud entertainment area. The acts were mainly circus acts, dancers, Peter Kay type club singers (if I hear âThe Girl from Ipanemaâ once more...). The only alternative/escape was to sit outside on the terrace which served both the bar and the restaurant, but was also the smoking area. There was a pool bar (which was open daily for lunch, and was good) and was also open a few nights each week (till 10.00pm) but only for tapas, which were expensive even with the half board discount. It was completely empty apart from one night when there was one couple there. The tables were set for dinner and it did not look like you could (would want to) go there just for drinks. It would have been nice to go there for a quite drink after dinner, instead of being inflicted with the hotel entertainment each night. We had a junior suite which was spacious but quite dark. It had everything you could possibly need, (fridge, free safe, free wi-fi and TV with more than the usual channels) All in all, a reasonably good quality hotel. The other âinmatesâ seem to consist mainly of more mature types who had been to the hotel several times. We spoke with several couples and they had all been to the hotel at least 4 times. One chap we spoke to said that heâd been going to the hotel at least once a year for the last 23 years! They seemed to appreciate the familiarity. We had a really good holiday, but probably wouldnât go there again as even though weâre not exactly adventurous, we do like some variety.More

Relaxing holiday at Colon Guanahani
Adults only around heated outdoor pools is the perfect way to relax. A great little restaurant/bar at the far end of the pool area was very welcome and not noisy. I wouldn't recommend it for young couples who perhaps want more to do and more loud music etc. The hotel is well laid out except that there are no facilities at all for the roof top pool so we only visited to enjoy the views. We had a ground floor room that suited us very well. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Everywhere was immaculately clean. The buffet restaurant was excellent with lots of choices and different options every day. It's close to some very nice shops and lovely walks. It's also close to the more lively part of Fanabe but we chose to go in the other direction. We always enjoy our holidays and often say we would go back to places and don't but I think we will go back to this one as it offered us everything we want.More

From the time we arrived to the day we left we had an excellent customer experience. Staff were friendly on arrival, room was ready and we were offered a glass of chilled Cava. The room was modern, clean and very comfortable and just a few steps out of our room, we could step onto a sun deck. The recent update of the hotel has resulted in a fantastic rooftop sunbathing area with pool and Jacuzzi. Breakfast is a delight, which we always ate outside. This is the fourth time we have visited and we hope to be able to go again in November 2015. One of the best hotels we have stayed. HJ and MSMore

Better than ever
My wife and I spent a week here over Easter for the fourth time, but the first time since the refurbishment last year and the first time since it became an adult only hotel. On arrival in the early afternoon the reception staff were friendly and welcoming as always. We were offered a drink of sparkling wine before being shown to our room, and there was a basket of fresh fruit and a bottle of sparkling wine in the room. We had a standard room which was attractive, spacious and clean, with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space in a walk-in wardrobe area. We only spent a week here but there is plenty of space for people taking a longer holiday. The double bed was huge! There are at least ten English language channels (including BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4, Sky Sports 1 and Sky News) on the large flat-screen TV so (if like me you do not have an all-singing, all-dancing mobile phone or tablet) it is possible to keep up to date with news/sports events while on holiday. The bathroom was large with a double size shower, plenty of quality towels and toiletries, bathrobes and slippers. The hotel also put your blue pool towels in the bathroom. We were on half board and the food was excellent. There is a huge choice at breakfast to cater for all nationalities â fruit juices, water, sparkling wine, yoghurts, fresh fruit, cereals, breads and pastries, cheeses and cold meats, and for the British (and others) who want it a full cooked breakfast. There are varied meals in the evening â two soups, a huge variety of salads, fish, meats and vegetarian options including gluten-free (although the choice of vegetables is limited), cheeses and biscuits, desserts and ice creams. It was warm enough while we were on holiday that we managed to eat all our meals, breakfast and dinner, outside on the terrace. We were able to exchange one evening meal for an excellent three-course lunch at the Pergola poolside bar as we like to have one dinner at the Coeur de Filet restaurant about 10 minute walk away. The two outside pools are heated and there is little trouble finding sun-loungers. A lifeguard is on duty. There is also a small infinity pool with a jacuzzi on the roof. There is a small gym with about ten pieces of apparatus open until about 8.00 in the evening. The hotel has a small library in a hut near the sunbathing area although there are only a few English books. We did not use any of the spa facilities. There was entertainment most evenings, although we preferred to go for a stroll and a drink at the La Fuente del Mirador after dinner. Hint - when you do go down to the beach area make sure you turn right and head towards Costa Adeje and La Caleta so that you avoid the tacky areas. If you had to try to find fault then there are two cats pestering you at meal times if you are eating on the terrace (but the cats do not go in the dining room); people are allowed to have glasses rather than plastic cups poolside but we saw no broken glass; the one size fits all bathroom slippers may be small for people with big feet; and there were a number of male guests over 50 years of age who insisted on wearing speedos! But if any of this upsets you then you really are nit picking! Overall we felt that everything about the Colon Guanahani is first class, a lovely hotel in a quiet setting, a little oasis of tranquillity in a busy corner of the island. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.More

Over the years we have visited several hotels in Costa Adeje. The Colon Guardahani is now undoubtedly our favourite and we certainly plan to return. The staff are very friendly and the facilities and food are excellent.More
