Playa Olid

When it comes to location, Playa Olid gets a solid A-plus - it's close to the beach and Siam Park waterpark. Families are well catered for, too, thanks to a child-friendly pool, spacious apartments, and buffet restaurant offering takeaway options.

Playa Olid is set in a lively corner of town with a range of bars, shops, and restaurants on its doorstep. And Tenerife’s biggest waterpark, Siam Park, is only a 5-minute drive down the road.

The beach is close, too – its curved, golden sands are less than a 10-minute stroll from the hotel, and it’s popular with both families and the surfing crowd.

Back at the hotel, there’s a pool, sunloungers, and palm trees dotted around the edge, plus its own bar. A couple of floors up, an extra sunbathing terrace with a Jacuzzi® overlooks the pool. Plus, children get their own half-moon-shaped paddling zone.

The apartments are big and bright, come with a terrace or balcony, and have fully-furnished kitchens. There’s also a buffet restaurant, where the chefs grill steak to order and pack up lunch-time picnics for guests.

Had a surprisingly good time. We loved it.

It was going to be a tough gig following last year's holiday to a five star resort on a four star budget. So, this year we thought we'd try something different and three star. We had never done all inclusive, so gave it a try. The holiday made good financial sense. I swear we could have survived on just ice-cream money and some for tips. My biggest worry was the room. I had read the reviews and noted no air-con and the noise. We ended up in a refurbished apartment that was the biggest we have ever had and was kept very clean. Sleeping in a separate room from the kids was a step up from "family" rooms in other resorts. I loved the space. We adapted to the lack of air on by ventilating the room. Yes, it was by the main road, but once cooled, we shut the noise out with the double glazed windows and slept well. It was nice being in a mostly British hotel. My daughters made loads of friends, so everybody was happy. We split our fortnight between days at Siam Parc and days in the hotel. It worked out great as we got the four star luxury at the water park instead. I enjoyed the food. I thought there was variety if you chose carefully, but the hotel set up is always a bit samey no matter what star you are. What was exceptional was the griddled squid, the best I have ever had. I found the hotel very clean, except where the guests had over indulged and left their plastic plates by the pool. The bar staff were lovely. The pools were nice and clean. Two things I really liked: you could not reserve a sunbed because the pools didn't open till after breakfast, so if you wanted beds you simply got to the queue after breakfast. Also, I like the way that departing guests left their inflatables in the pool for others. It was very family orientated. Although we are fairly introvert at home, we all had an absolutely amazing time with the animation staff. They worked hard and enthusiastically and made you feel like they were partying with you. My day would start with a one to one pilates class with Paula or Maggie. I don't know why no one else joined in, but it was great. In the evening we watched most shows. The girls loved the mini disco, but that was for all the family. I have no idea how they did this but both myself and my husband ended up on stage and had a riotous laugh and even performed karaoke. I loved Josh as a master MC. My girls adored Wendy and the rest of the team. My girls were in tears to leave their friends on the last day. It was a fabulous fortnight and I really thought we got good value for money. Would happily go back. More

Scot Lass.

Just returned 21st Sept from Playaolid.Enjoyed this hotel very much.It is kept very clean and the staff are all very pleasant and hardworking.Drinks were to a good standing but must admit the drinks at the bar in reception are much better.Cocktails are tasty.Food !! Well I am not a fussy eater but must admit was a bit disappointed with it.Not much selection for British.Catered more for the Spanish.Breakfast fine. Lunch and dinner much the same. The toaster is a laugh .One day I had to put it through 5 times before it went brown.Got a bit better .The pool 2 bar is good.Plenty to eat and drink and games to play through the day.All in all a good hotel.(By the way still only 2 drinks at a time)More

A Fantastic family holiday

We stayed here with our two teenage girls and our seven year our son. We had two apartments which were lovely and clean and spacious. There was plenty of choice when it came to food in the restaurant so everyone was happy. The animation team were great, so full of energy and always happy. Our son loved the kids club and when he wasn't there he had a great time splashing in the pool. We were with Thompson holidays and as a result we were given free tickets to Siam Park which we could use as often as we liked. There was a good selection of shops and restaurants nearby but as we were all inclusive we didn't try any of the restaurant's so can't comment on those. We went on a pirate boat to look for whales and dolphins. The boat wasn't very piratey but we did see both Whales and dolphins and after a really tasty lunch and a couple of sangrias we jumped of the boat into the sea. My children gave me no choice they said if I didn't jump they would push me in!! We booked this trip through one of the reps at our hotel and we really enjoyed it. Had a great time at the Playa Olid and would definitely return.More

LisaJT123,

Brilliant family holiday

Stayed at playa olid for 2 weeks in September with my husband and 2 children and have to say all four of us thoroughly enjoyed it. Cleanliness: From the bedrooms to pools / reception area etc no one could fault the cleanliness of the hotel. Cleaners did an amazing job . The entertainment :was exactly what we were looking for something on every night sometimes 2 shows per night. The animation team were so very friendly as were all the staff especially the car staff who never failed to make us laugh. Food: Now the food seems to be what most people have moaned about. The food is typical of all inclusive buffet food and certainly no one got sick from Eating he food . You will find something different to eat every meal time but in my opinion people simply get fed up eating when they are eating so much every day. Every day at lunch and dinner there is also aside from the buffet a fish being grilled and also a steak/pork/chicken. There is also burgers/ hotdogs/ pizza available every me time and a Wide variety of fresh salads and cold meats , deserts, and at least 6 other main dishes available . It is not a la cart dinning but then if you wanted that you would want to pay the prices for it. Every were you go there is a wide variety of cheap restaurants if you choose to eat out some nights. Also near are McDonald's Burger King and subway. The area were the hotel is is ideal . Close to the siam park bus stop , the beach etc. A wee tip : there are several supermarkets on the way down the hill which are not too dear but! A little way up the hill there is a shopping centre that has a large supermarket. Very very cheap. But no one seemed to know about it. Go into the shopping centre and go DOWN the escalator not up. 79 c for 5 litres of water compared with 1.70 next to hotel. The bar staff made our holiday so friendly and funny especially the one at the main bar and the one in the millennium Bar. Downside: no air conditioning in the rooms. You can hire mobile air on or a fan . Noise levels between 12.00 and 1.00 am as the entertainment emptied was realy loud. Not the hotels fault may I add but ignorant people screaming and shouting in way back to rooms. Every one always complains about the Russians and Germans but in this hotel it's Definatly the English to blame. Overall we honestly can say we had the best two weeks. None of us wanted to come home the kids and ourselfs made some lovely friends as well. Would Definatly return. More

Just ok .

We had a good holiday, i am well travelled so have a balanced view. The premium rooms are of a VERY good size.. but no air con ( which for me meant no sleep for 10 days) the sofa bed is only ok for small kids , cant take an adult , good kitchen area though. As a whole rooms were good. Hotel cool and ok , reception not really that helpful, but who cares.. evening entertainment was good some night and poor others. Not bad for kids but not brilliant ours are 9/7/3 Pool s ok but mind the tiles as they are slippery. Drink ok but well watered down hard to get drunk.. The food area is very canteen stile not really pleasant dinning. The food was "ok" but i say ok.. not enough choice , same thing over and over.. Grill ok , no real choice for young kids.. nothing wrong with the food quality , but nothing great about it.. walk to Beach a bit of a treck up and donw hills.. would recomend if you have young-medium kids Aqualand.. not a bad price , half price second time Euro 4 in a cab 5 mins..More
