Secret beaches, stunning natural parks and traditional towns. You’ll see a different side to Tenerife on a holiday to Buenavista del Norte.
Buenavista del Norte lets you see a whole other side to Tenerife. It’s in an out-of-the-way spot in the north-west corner of the island, where the pace of life is much slower. Rather than bar-lined strips and high-rise hotels, you can expect charming villages, traditional craft shops and 18th-century architecture.
A good-looking place
Buenavista means great view, and the region really lives up to its name. Craggy mountains wrap around towns filled with honey-coloured houses and café-lined piazzas. Along the coast, you’ve got secluded black-sand beaches and natural swimming pools carved out by volcanic eruptions that took place centuries ago.
You can soak up the scenery over a round at the seafront Buenavista Golf Club. This championship course was designed by Spanish golfing legend Seve Ballesteros. Elsewhere, in Los Gigantes, enormous cliffs soar above the calm turquoise sea. It’s a popular spot for kayaking and you might spot a few bottlenose dolphins and pilot whales as you ride the waves.
Inland, the Teno Rural Park is a paradise for walkers. On a hiking trail here you’ll be surrounded by rugged mountain scenery, forest-filled valleys and striking views out to sea. Plan a stop off at one of the hamlets along the way and you’ll be able to refuel on delicious local cheeses and pastries.
