"One of Menorca's most stunning beaches, family favourite Cala Galdana offers an unbeatable combo - pale sands, shallow seas and plenty of diversions for all ages."
If you like your beaches with a bit of life, then Cala Galdana is your kind of place. One of Menorca's most exquisite bays, there's a happening, gentle atmosphere here that provides a happy holiday setting.
Brace yourself though - the beach is a knockout. Sheltered by high limestone cliffs on one side, the silvery sands melt into turquoise waters that are so glassy you can see the seabed below. All around, pine trees infuse the air with the lightest of scents, mixing with gentle coastal breezes, before wafting through the open-air restaurants overlooking the sands. Add it all up and it's easy to see why Galdana gets busy, as people revel in its sands, shallow seas and heart-lifting views.
Further along this south-western shoreline, you'll find several other stunning beaches flanked by pinewoods and many with tiny, ancient caves. One of the most beautiful, Macarella is just a short stroll from Galdana, while the bigger bays of Son Bou and Cala'n Porter are ideal day-out material.
On the subject of trips, you won't be lacking in choice. Pack your swim gear and take a boat trip to bathe in tiny, solitary coves. For a dose of urban life, travel to Cuidadela, the island's ancient capital, to meander around its cobbled lanes, buy butter-soft leatherware and enjoy the pretty quayside restaurants.
Back in Galdana, don't expect frenzied nighttime partying. Evenings here are about good food, wine - and maybe an almond-flavoured Menorcan palo – at the resort's Spanish and international restaurants. And should want a quicker pace, the bright lights of Son Bou beckon from down the coast.
