Close to Santo Tomas’ sands and with a waterpark-style pool for children, this place is an expert when it comes to family holidays.

These two apartment complexes are spot on if you're planning a family getaway. For starters, the kids' club gets top marks from TripAdvisor reviewers. The location scores points, too – this place is in a quiet town and the beach is just a 2-minute walk away. Then there are the apartments themselves. They're only a couple of stories high and set out like a little village, with two pools in the middle. There's a square pool for adults, and a kids' one that comes packed with brightly-coloured slides. Food-wise, there's a pool bar where you can cool off with an ice-cream, and a buffet restaurant with kid-friendly food like nuggets and chips, and a soft play area outside.

Picture this. You’re staying in a small, seaside village on the edge of the sapphire-blue Mediterranean. Every morning you enjoy an al fresco breakfast, an early morning breeze drifting up from the sea. You gather the essentials for a day on the beach – towel, shades, book, put on your sunhat and saunter down past the protected sand dunes to the long strip of inviting white sand.

The first beach you come to has brightly coloured parasols and a scattering of young families, the children laughing as they play, happy-as-sand-boys, at the water’s edge.

You walk past them to a second beach - this one stretching towards the horizon, a kilometre or more of gently sloping sand. The other sun-worshippers become fewer and fewer with every step you take, until it seems you have the beach to yourself. You choose your spot, lay out your towel and flop. Now there’s nothing to do but enjoy the touch of the sun on your skin and make the most of the inviting sea.
