Mestral and Llebeig Apartments

With its playground, soft-play area and kids splash park, this place is well geared up for families.

These low-rise, whitewashed apartments are split into 2 halves, which are divided by a small, quiet road. The main pool is on one side, and there’s a children’s mini waterpark on the other.

NO GOOD FOR TEENAGERS

After sitting in the Thomson shop for three hours, the agent found this holiday for us. You can't go wrong as it has a Gold Award and Handpicked, and being told by her colleague that she had recently returned home from there, and recommended it. Any thing for a sale. My husband and I took two 18 year old boys. On a positive note: The apartments are lovely, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen and nice size room with lovely big balcony. We booked half board but upgraded to all inclusive for 7 euros per day each. Food was brilliant, Staff and restaurant staff really friendly. Weather was beautiful. Beach 5 minutes walk. On a negative point: This complex is mostly aimed at children not teenagers. The entertainment is very poor. Once away from the complex, turn right for fifteen minutes, takes you to the beginning of the resort, with only a few hotels, handful of shops and only a couple of places to eat, one nightclub, which only a few people went to. Turn left, a cosy little pub, a few shops, chemist, a couple of restaurants, handful of hotels, and doctors. Doctor and receptionist were absolutely amazing, so funny and friendly, so helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them, they treated everyone like friends, AMAZING. This resort is so quiet, only recommended for a quiet holiday. Nothing for teenagers to do. Sundown Jeep safari highly recommended, our driver Sara was so much fun. Took us to watch the sunset, there was a guitarist playing when we arrived, candles, food, wine and lager. Wifi for two weeks was 20 euros per person, per item. Our complex was so quiet for the boys that the reps gave them permission to use the Victoria Playa, which is a big hotel with much more life, they stayed there all day and all night, only coming back for food and drinks, as all inclusive wasn't valid there. We were so far from other resorts, that a taxi was 30 euros, When I complained to my travel agent on our return, they said that I should have looked at the reviews, so basically it was our fault. When I have looked at reviews, they are all positive, nothing to say how poor it was for teenagers. Some travel agents clearly cannot be trusted.More

3 Star apartments, but 2 Star facilities and 1 Star All Inclusive

We stayed at the Mestral & Llebeig (pronounced Le Beige) in mid September 2014 and had a great holiday with unseasonally hot temperatures into the 30C's. Santo Tomas is a nice, quiet, little resort with good beaches and a handful of restaurants and shops. The good............Our apartment was great. Recently refurbished with a large open plan lounge/kitchen/dinner, separate bedroom, a modern bathroom and a large balcony overlooking a swimming pool. The room was very well equipped with a full cooker, large fridge freezer, microwave, toaster and kettle. There was a large flat screen TV in the lounge area with several English channels and a safe in the bedroom. The beach is exactly 3 mins gentle stroll away and most of the shops and restaurants are within 10 mins. The WiFi at the Mestral & Llbeig works perfectly but is rather expensive at €15 euros per week per device. The bad........What lets this accommodation down is the quality of the public facilities. Two of the bars are rather uninspiring and are basically outdoor pool bars. The third open air bar and restaurant is situated over the road from the main complex in what looks like a children's play park and is surrounded by bouncy castles. The swimming pools are are not particularly attractive and are unlit at night. The poolside furniture is a bit tired and there was an extreme lack of parasols. Despite the quality of the apartments I can't see how you can rate this complex at any more than a 2 Star. And the ugly......We had intended to upgrade to all inclusive (AI) on arrival. You can do this for 33 euros per person per day and this is apparently less than the holiday companies charge. But when we went to one of the pool bars the beer was served in 1/3 pint plastic cups for the All Inclusive guests and spirit measures were pathetic. It might have been a temporary problem but there was also no ice. We checked out the restaurant that evening and the first thing to put us off was the dozens of baby buggies parked around the entrance. Once inside the sound was deafening and at 8.00 p.m the buffet was virtually empty. The atmosphere was definitely more school canteen than Mediterranean restaurant, so we decided to give the AI a miss. Very noisy children and crying babies are a prominent feature of most parts of the complex. General stuff There are some good little restaurants in Santo Tomas and most were very good value. A meal with wine and drinks ranged from €25 euros to €50 euros. We stocked up the fridge with San Miguel beer, wine and spirits from the super market next door. A large can of beer was just 95 cents, a bottle of wine was €4 euros and a bottle of Gordons gin €9 euros. As our room overlooked the pool we could pop up and grab a drink when we liked and it was nice to sit on the balcony for a sundowner. The Mestral & Llebeig is far more suited to families with very small children. There really is not a lot here for couples and this is definitely not a place to bring older children and teenagers.More

Nearly perfect for family with young kids

Sep 2014. After going to private villas for the last several years we felt our 3 yr old would like the kids club aspect of a hotel. We've also been to Menorca the last 3 yrs running now since it's so good for families. Finding somewhere with enough living space for a 1 yr old was also tricky - but this place was perfect. The apartments were clean, spacious and modern with a view. The pools were perfect for the kids, with a splash pool for babies/toddlers and slides for slightly older infants. The main pool also had a separate small pool for kids. The entertainment was superb for the kids - during the day and night. The team were fantastic with kids of all ages. The all inclusive food was excellent - fresh meat and fish, menorcan food, kids food, kids cutlery - we were unsure what to expect but it was very good food. The restaurant is also close to a bouncy castle/soft play area and we couldn't keep our oldest out of there - worked perfectly. The only slight negatives was the choice of lunchtime/aft noon snacks at the pool - only chips/hamburger/hot dog every day or cakes/biscuits in the afternoon - not great choice and no healthy option - so better off going over to the buffet for good food. Also the evening meal doesn't start until 7pm so keeping a 1yr old awake until he'd eaten was a challenge! The resort is small and quiet but very nicely done with a long beach side walk. I wouldn't like to come to this resort without a young family but if you do have a young family, close to perfect! We've been to 3 different resorts in Menorca, each time with young kids, and we will almost definitely come back here. One last thing, it's significantly cheaper to upgrade to all inclusive at the hotel if you book self catering with Thomson! A very good family hotel and resort!More

excellent family holiday

we stayed here august 6-20th 2014 with family and friends 9 of us in total 5 adults and 3 children aged 7, 6, and 2. we stayed in a 2 bed apartment which had 2 bathrooms (E1) which was obviously refurbished not to long ago. 4 single beds and a sofa bed which we kept unfolded for our holiday but did not compromise the space in the kitchen and could be easily passed on the way in/out of the room. we stayed all inclusive and thought the food was excellent always something to choose meat, loads of fish dishes, salad, roasted veg, rice dishes, childrens counter with chips nuggets etc too. puddings were ice cream, cakes, and plenty of fresh fruit pineapple, melon and lots more. the drinks at meal times are self serve and at evening meal you can get them until 10.30/11pm there is also a bar on the site to buy drinks from after that. we got free tickets to play a round of crazy golf and also free tickets for the soft play too on arrival at the hotel. there is a swap box in reception where we had buckets and spades a parasol and inflatable pool toys from and we returned them when we left for others to use also (great idea). There is spaces to leave your pushchair when dining and the evening entertainment is down in a sort of pit which is a tennis court but is great to keep an eye on your children as it only has one exit so you can view them from above or sit at the tables down there also. the beach is a short walk from the apartments. we only used our pushchair for evening when our youngest got tired all the other times she walked around the resort. the girls loved the kids club and when my eldest had a problem with her suncream in her eye a member of staff searched for me personally which was very reassuring. both pools have a small childrens section and the splash pool is lovely my 2 year old always asked to go up there. we were based near the lebeige pool which had its own pool bar and although they say it is the quieter pool by this people mean it does not have music playing over a speaker. the mistral pool has music and quizzes pool competitions etc on throughout the day. our friends paid for wifi which kept dropping in and out our balcony E1 had good reception. the sports bar round the corner from the hotel has free wifi if you just want to check your phone every couple of days its called haleys bar. 20 mins transfer from the airport an ideal spot for relaxing with a young family a great holidayMore
