Great for kids, could do with some updating
I would probably rate this 3.5 if I could! Overall we had a lovely holiday and the apartments were great for our 3 year old. Apartments - we had a 2 bed which was very well equipped. It had everything we needed. Would benefit from a more thorough clean though and possibly 3 times per week as things quickly got quite dirty with all the sand and wet from the pool/beach. Grounds - the place lacks a real "centre" as there is nowhere to sit indoors and enjoy music or entertainment. The tennis court was used for evening mini discos which was fine for kids but pretty run down. Same for the pool areas which were not thoroughly cleaned. We saw a pile of rubbish and an old towel left on a bench that was still there at the end of the week. Lots of broken chairs and loungers which really need to be replaced. It does let the complex down. However, the pools themselves were great and amused our toddler. food - we were half board and thought the food was fine. There seemed to be a problem with flies affecting the whole resort which was quite off putting at times. We found the food to be fresh and varied enough to keep us happy over a week. We were glad to have lunch elsewhere though as a break. The area - Santo Thomas is very quiet for us. There are only a few restaurants and not much to see or do. We found it difficult to go anywhere as the buses were not regular and were full whenever we tried. So we wouldn't stay here again for that reason. Overall I would say that it "does what it says on the tin". It's a 2 star place with great apartments and perfect for kids. But parts are quite run down and you get charged extra for everything! I would have been annoyed if I was all inclusive.More
Fantastic hotel for 4-10 yrar olds
Hotel staff very friendly and eger to help, with sny problems , premisis on the whole well desigened although some saftey concers with upper floors with under 4 year olds, doord open easily from inside and no gates at top of stairs, coupled with steep stairs makes them dangerous for toddlers and elderly. We stayed on Mestral side which had not yet been updated, but 3 bed appartment well layed out and well equiped. Slight downside apart for lack of gates at top of stairs, cleaning would have benifited from 3 times a week instaed of two, sunbeds on Mestral side were a little mouldy On the who;e though we had a lovely holiday made enjoyable by friendly helpfull staffMore
Ok if your reading this you are like me and like to do a bit if research before you book. You will have also noted the bad reviews. So here goes....... We travelled early August just after the D&V bug (a lot of bad reviews at that time). On arrival we had to pay the Spanish tax and for the safe, this is not a negative most places do this! We stayed in E6 near the bar and splash pool. Nice room. Clean and basic, lovely view could see the sea! We even had our own pet on arrival, a little lizard! The mestral pool was great. Music played throughout the day, games, quizzes and water polo put on by the entertainment team - Jess and Cobey. Had a fab time around the pool, should have said earlier we have 2 girls (5 & 3), they loved to join in the games and dancing. The girls spent one morning in the kids club which they really enjoyed, it would have been more but it was very busy and fully booked on the other occasion they wanted to go. We went on one excursion. The pirate boat. This was great. Lots of fun. The kids (big and small) loved it. Expensive but worth it. Just remember to order a packed lunch from reception. The restaurant, which is over the quite road is ok. Remember it's only a two star. Yes you have to walk past the inflatables and trampolines which you have to pay for, but we didn't see this as a problem (other negative reviews). Our girls had one go on these and I think that was enough for them. So the food, breakfast lunch and dinner, for me I couldn't go wrong. Lots of choice and fresh. And as a bonus they have a kids area which had nuggets and chips ect on. Beer on tap (pull your own) and spirits later on. Now for the best bit...... The entertainment. My girls loved it. All the dances and music. We are still doing them now! So to sum up, we had a great time, lovely weather, food ok, room basic, staff very pleasant, entertainment fantastic. A great family holiday.More
Apartments excellent but that's about it...
Firstly, on arrival you will need to pay X amount per night for a safe, 4 Euros per night per cot and then travel tax per person (Under 12s you don't pay for). All in all we had to hand over just under 100 euros before we even got to the room! Rooms: If your put on the top floor and have a buggy - after day 3 you will get fed up of carrying the buggy up the stairs. The hotel seem to love putting families that have babies on the first floor which is really not ideal as the only way to access your apartment is via stairs. We had a 2 bed room apartment and I must say this was a REALLY good apartment. It contains air con, fridge, freezer, oven, hob, microwave and all kitchen cutlery. There is a sofa that folds out into a double bed in the living area and a nice size balcony (ours looked over the main road - although the road is not busy but unlucky for us there is a hotel on the other side of the road and at 11:30pm they empty the bottle bins every night). There is also a 32" flat screen TV in the living room but very limited TV channels. There was a bathroom which contained a toilet, sink and a walk in shower. Bedroom 1 contains what I can only say is 2 single bed pushed together. The mattress are shockingly bad. I'm not sure if the mattress is plastic or they placed a plastic mattress protector but every time you moved in bed it sounded like you was rolling on crisps packets. This Bedroom has a en suite containing a bath (and shower), toilet and sink. The showers are nice and powerful but if you decide to have a shower any time after 7pm the hot water appears to be limited (depending how busy the hotel is). Bedroom 2 contains 2 single beds pushed together. Maid service is once every 2 days - they appear to make the beds and supply fresh towels. WiFi is available in the rooms but its shockingly bad even if you pay for the premium service which is 20 euros and you can only be on one device. Pools: Splash pool - pretty good but they only turn the water pumps on for a maximum of 2 hours a day. Some of the slides are chipped and broken and really in need of some TLC. The water is quite cloudy purely from all the kids and the sun cream. Main Pool - This pool appears to be the busiest. ALL the sun beds around this pool are broken. There is a small pool for the kids and the main pool to which at one end is very deep! Also this pool is where the Thomson reps do their games and has music playing (same songs everyday). One of the games is Adult water polo - I reported this to Thomson as it is so dangerous. The goals are less than 1 meter from the sunbeds to which on our second day I witnessed the ball missing the goal and hitting a child (aged 3 or 4) in the head knocking him off the sunbed - followed by my mother being hit in the face while on a sunbed and then the ball hitting our buggy that my 16 month old was asleep in. This pool could really do with a clean and during my 7 night stay I didn't see this pool being cleaned once although did see the chlorine tests being done each day. This pool has a bar which just has signs everywhere. "One drink per guest", "Towels will be removed before 10am if unattended" (this never happened) "no bottles allowed"... The list goes on. You get your drink in tiny little plastic cups, cocktails you have to pay for (yet they still use unbranded alcohol), cheap ice cream pots are available as part of the all inclusive or you can buy branded ones. This bar servers food from 11am till 12:30pm which everyday is chips, burgers, hotdog and ham and cheese toasties. You then get a cookie wrapped in a napkin from 4pm till 6:30pm Salt Pool - This is the best pool - appears to be newer. Has a kids pool and all the sun beds around this pool appear to all be new. I think all the 1 bedroom apartments are set around this pool. It is across the road from the main pool and only has a bar that servers drinks (when the staff can be bothered to be there). Kids club is VERY good and the thomson reps do an amazing job with the kids. The kids club is FREE - you are just required to book your child on 24 hours in advance. Food - The restaurant is a 2 min walk and across the road (I never went for breakfast but told it was the same everyday). This restaurant is only open at 8-10am, 1-3pm and 7-9pm, that is only 2 hours to server dinner for ALL guests! After 2 days of eating the plain, unflavored food you will look else were for food. There are 2 amazing beach front restaurants which I highly recommend and only about 5 minute walk from the apartments. There is also a small local shop to pick up supplies which is across the road from the apartments (can be pricey). Also where the main restaurant is there is a bar - This bar you fully have to pay for and not part of the all inclusive (random!) They also have softplay area, bouncy castles and games - but all of this, yep you got it - have to pay for. The softplay is 4 euros a day per child and the bouncy castle is 6 euros per child per day. There is also mini golf again have to pay for this. From 8pm till 10:30pm there a do it yourself bar of unbranded alcohol. Something I noticed was people from the hotel next door were coming over and just helping themselves to the drink and even some days in the restaurant which clearly went unchecked. The restaurant also put a BBQ on which takes place on Thursday's (ou need to book a day before and pay extra!) Ours was cancelled as they said it was going to rain. The hotel entertainment is bad and I mean REALLY bad. The reps put it on which they try (and its aimed at the kids) but its boring as hell. You have to sit on a ripped up old tennis court on plastic chairs while kids just run around. Also there are steps EVERYWHERE - if you have a buggy then enjoy carrying it most of your holiday. I recommend the beach which is just behind the restaurant - its beautiful during the day and night. Appears to be busy with the locals on Sunday. Overall - Apartments are lovely - the surrounding areas of the complex really needs some TLC. Food - Boring and plane, Take money as you will have to pay for almost everything. Recommend use this purely as a base (maybe self catering) and eat out or at other hotels. Use other hotels for evening entertainment and use the beach. Would I return? Maybe, if the price was right for self catering.More

Overcrowded and mediocre
I hope a very balanced review I will explain why it's only two stars..... Santo Tomas is not a small town or village with character but a purpose built and very small collection of about five hotels and several villas on a small, calm and relatively quiet and clean beachfront. It's not noisy, has two bars and you can walk end to end in about 40 minutes. So far so good? Then we come to the Mistral and Llebeig accommodations. Pretty simple to sum up. Overcrowded for one - simple to complain about people hogging sun loungers and laying out towels at 6am (which they do) but if you simply don't have enough to go round then that only compounds the problem. Two decent sized pools and a kids splash pool are good , although always seems to be you are walking between the three (across a road). Breakfast (worth a miss) and dinner (and lunch if included) are all held in a restaurant two minutes away - and yes, across the road) they are Buffett style and as long as you like chips everyday you will be in your element. Long queues that go past dessert first before you get to the beige food line up. First package deal - and last. Wasn't much cheaper , we paid £3,800 for ten days in a one bed apartment. Not fair to comment on First Choice / Tui reps as this isn't about them, but suffice to say if you like pool bingo and a couple of mouthy twenty somethings that only encourage the most overweight and heavily tattooed brits then, again you will love it.More
