An introduction to Mahon
Mahon became the island's capital in 1722, when the British moved it from Ciutadella. White-washed Georgian and Regency houses cling to the cliff face that rises above the imposing harbour, one of the largest natural harbours in the world. It has strong associations with British naval history - admirals Nelson and Collingwood stayed here - while it also plays an important part in Richard O'Brien's series of novels.
