We would go back.

Reception: Very clean and tidy. Nice to have cold bottled water handed to us after a fairly long taxi ride - approx 45-50 minutes. Cold flannels also available. Our room was ready when we arrived. This was an unexpected bonus, as we were there around 10 am. All the necessary documents dealt with efficiently and by friendly staff. A porter took our bags to our room for us. Room: The room was at the back of the hotel, it looked out in the road behind, but this was fine as it was lovely and quiet. The room was spotless and well equipped. We requested an extra pillow after our first night which we got after a second request, but all ok. The bed was very comfy. The safe was operated by a key as apposed to a number combination, but it was fine. 2 bottles of water in the fridge/ cool box on arrival and a small bottle of bubbly on the second day. Tea and coffee facilities in the room were and added luxury as often these are not provided by hotels abroad. You can ask for more if you need them, cleaning staff very friendly and helpful. The air conditioning was really l effective and was a god send. Pool area: Pool area very clean, one end of the pool very shallow, ankle deep, I guess left from the days when children were accepted in this hotel. Pool bar handy, though a little pricey. They come round mid morning with a tray of canapés which is nice. Dining area & Food: Clean well laid out restaurant. Good selection of food, a little limited for vegetarians, but I'm sure they would find enough to eat. As you enter the restaurant there is an outside seating area which we favoured. The back of the restaurant had a terrace which was along side the marina, I'm not sure if this part of the restaurant was open to the public, or if it was just the seating area around the bar on the terrace where some of the entertainment took place. The restaurants Staff very efficient and friendly. We especially liked Gloria who always had a smile to greet you with. Was friendly, courteous and helpful. Entertainment team: Although we did not join in with the many activities on offer, there were many who did and enjoyed. The team were very friendly. Offered different activities, but never forced anyone into taking part. Volley ball and water aerobics were very popular. They had entertainment on every evening both inside the hotel by the pool area, and outside on the marina terrace. The majority was of a good standard. The ones that stood out for us were The three tenors tribute act, Abba tribute and the Drifters tribute act. It was lovely to be in an adult only hotel. Thompsons rep Ellie: Very friendly, gave you time and was helpful. Thank you Ellie. Now for the ONLY negative, it's not a complaint, more a disappointment. On our arrival at our room the fridge wasn't on/working. The light did not come on when the door was opened. My hubby asked about this and explained that he needed to store medication in it. He was told it wasn't a fridge it was a cool box. If he had medication that needed to be refrigerated they had a fridge we could use as there was someone on reception 24/7. He wouldn't have been happy to leave his insulin away from our room. He returned, we thought maybe it needed time to cool, nothing, still no light. We asked our Rep to look into this for us the next day, which she did. She asked us the day after if it had been fixed, nope. I then approached reception, explained again, was asked me room number, which I gave , she looked at her list and said yes we know, we will ask the maintenance man to look. I said , but this is now day 3 of our 7 day stay. It was fixed and beautifully cold by the evening. It's a pity they didn't come and look on day one. If your fridge/cool box doesn't come on when opened, get someone to check ASAP, especially if you need to store medication in it. It possibly just needed turning on, somewhere at the back. Everything else was perfect. We went on the open top land rover off road trip. Booked through our rep. It was brilliant. Be aware there are no toilet stops, so I recommend you use their loo in the depot before you set off. You are picked up by bus and taken to the north of the island where you meet your drivers. We had a lovely lady called Irina and in the second Land Rover was a lovely chap called Janis. Both excellent drivers, very informative and friendly. Although you can buy canned drinks for a euro, they don't offer them until you return. Order a picnic too. It was great. The beach they stop at for lunch was stunning and the swim was very welcome. You will need to take water with you, your own towel, as you will not be able to take a hotel towel with you, which is fair enough. Don't forget sunglasses, camera, sunscreen, and a hat! It was 36 degrees when we went - phew !! We will definitely return to this stunning island, we need to, there is so much to see.More

Just Returned From A Fantastic Holiday Again

“Just Returned From A Fantastic Holiday” 5 of 5 starsReviewed 3/8/2016 We were lucky enough to get the room we requested, nice and clean, all in all more or less perfect for what we paid, The saying you get what you pay for is true but we felt this hotel was superb value for both food and service for the 2 weeks, the buffet choice blew us away and cant be faulted! ,Hotel is a little dated in places but we found it comfortable was a long walk to our room so if you are old or disabled I advise you email and ask for a room close to reception, We didn't want to have a pool view that everyone else seemed to be recommending we like to be secluded and away from the crowd so instead we asked for a view of the Marina and it was simply perfect. larger balconies and a real sun trap, 45 on the balcony could'nt stay in it for long, we have stayed here before, and requested the same room and pleased this was given to us. Special mention to the reception staff especially Nicollette [ DOT ] a credit to the company, CHEERS DOT, very pleasant and helpful also Harold and Gloria in the dining room, always having a nice smile All the staff remembered us from last year and were very helpful we will certainly return again in the future Room Tip: Marina View Sunny all day See more room tipsMore

william w,

Not up to much

Thompson platinum,I don't think so,very dated hotel you can't put a table cloth on a table and call it a 4star,food not up to much, very crowded dining room ,VERY expensive drinks, rules in hotel a complete joke especially about not being able to take drinks from bar to Resturant !!! Sunbed rule not worth a salt, only good point is that it was clean and the staff fantastic, would we stay again, absolutely not Thompson needs to look again at this hotel if they think this is worth the money they command .More

A gem of a hotel plus no children

We had been looking for a hotel which ticked all the boxes. Good location, sun, clean, and above all no children. Well, Valentin Star ticked all the boxes, the hotel staff could not do enough, every member, from the reception to the room cleaning staff. The swimming pool catered for all abilities and the afternoon activities including pool volleyball, water aerobics and the enthusiastic staff especially Andrea, made the holiday special. The rooms were very clean with air conditioning (Set at 21 deg) which is cool enough, plus a ceiling fan. TV with enough UK channels and a German channel showing the original Tom and Jerry, I know, i'm sad. The restaurant has enough variety for all, and the quality is perfect. Sun beds were available after 8:00am and the hotel provides blue and brown towels which are placed on the beds in the morning so when you turn up don't panic, just lay out the towels and your away. As long as there are no bags or personal towels then the loungers are yours. Entertainment in the evening is good and everyday is different. If you sit by the stage then be prepared to be up on stage. You have a choice of paying for drinks by cash or the room card which could be paid daily or at the end of the holiday. If you have a bottle of wine at the restaurant your not allowed to remove it, however, they will hold the bottle for the next day until you finish the bottle. A walk around the the marina in the evening after the meal is a must as you realise how great the adults only hotel is when you return to the hotel and the sound of little people is no more. We will going back in the future.More
