Peaceful and well run
Excellent all round. Absolute bliss not to be subjected to screeching and yelling around the pool. Food fantastic and plentiful. Booked independently some months ago with a good discount and got one of the large rooms near the pool - thanks Valentin Star. Cala'n Bosch itself is ok but would not be my first choice of resort, however the fantastic hotel experience more than compensated. One minor quibble for the hotel - please play more lively music in the bar in the evening. One minor quibble for fellow guests - it is made quite clear that sun beds can't be reserved, so if you want a sunbed park your towel and your backside on it, embarrassingly the only guests I witnessed complaining were the Brits. For a quiet relaxing screech free holiday, I would definitely recommend Valentin Star.More

Just returned from our 2nd visit to the Valentin star, had an amazing chill out time. To spend time in the pool with no noise is heaven. Good choice of entertainment in the hotel or on the outside terrace. We made a request to have the same room as the previous year and this was fullfilled, staff always have a smile and know the routine off by heart, there was a partially sighted man on our stay and the restaurant staff were there every night to help him. A great place to re-charge those batteries, will be going back next year.More

A good, but not 4 star, hotel in a great location.
There were pros and cons to our stay at the Valentin Star hotel. Firstly the 'cons'. On arrival we were informed that gents had to wear long trousers for the evening meal in the restaurant. A reasonable request had you a) been there before b) read the small print under Facilities/Restaurant on jet2.com website c) brought any. None of these applied, but we were told that I would not be able to enter the restaurant without them. I would need to go to Ciutedella, or borrow some from the hotel. I did the latter, and was delivered a pair of creased waiter's trousers and the bottom half of a Spanish Cavalry Officer's uniform (strangely stamped with 'Property of Valentin Star') to make my choice. Both were ill fitting, but I did what was requested (the deciding factor was to keep the waiter on shift.) I bought a pair of jeans in Ciutedella after 2 days, unable to ignore the stares any longer. There 3 eating areas, 2 outside and one inside, but the policy applied to all locations. The allocated room opened out onto a small patio area, an arm's width from the sunbeds. I requested a move at reception, and we were moved immediately into a ground floor junior suite which was more private. Onto the sunbeds - other reviewers seem to have differing views here. My view, and that of my wife, is that if you need somewhere to dry your clothes, store your sunglasses, give your towel a great holiday in the sun, then if it takes 3 hours plus then the sunbed is the wrong place to do so. On informing reception about this hotel rule that wasn't being enforced, to be fair, someone checked periodically and removed towels much to the annoyance of the perpetrators. No water served with the meal in the evening meant another 50 Euros tagged onto the 10-day bill. 2 Euros every time you change your towels added another 20. Trousers, safe, etc. and it soon adds up. No glasses allowed at tables at the pool bar (plastic cups) but could have a glass if you sat at the bar. No wine glasses allowed in the room (for Cava supplied by the hotel.) As for the 'pros'. Reception staff, cleaning staff, restaurant staff, the hotel porter, and most bar staff, were cheerful, pleasant and helpful. The food was good, varying, and plentiful. There was entertainment both inside and outside the hotel complex at night which we found unique. Great location by the marina, lots of good, reasonably priced restaurants for lunch, 5 mins walk to the nearest beach, 2 Euros on the bus to Ciutedella - and the sun was shining. Not sure if we'd go back though - It's not a 4 star hotel, despite the slippers and dressing gown, and a little pricey.More

A special Hotel
The Valentin Star Hotel is ideally located within the wonderful marina of Calan Bosch in Menorca. The Customer Service from every member of staff was excellent. The food for both breakfast and dinner was first class, an incredible amount of choice and Allyin, the chef on the freshly cooked station was superb, nothing was too much trouble for him. The evening entertainment was first class, especially having a choice of venues, within the hotel is an outdoor stage and at the front of the hotel, there is another outdoor stage open to the general public, so you have to pay with cash at this venue, all acts are Professional, no Entertainments Team involvement. We had no problem with sunbeds, despite it being early July. Two things we feel need changing are: The cost of hiring the room safe is a little bit high at E3 per day, why not charge the Tour Companies E3 per day extra and let them advertise that the safes are free. Secondly, we fully agree with men having to wear trousers in the restaurant in the evening, but allowing ladies to wear hot pants is not really acceptable. We will definitely return to the Valentin Star on our next visit to Menorca. Also, thank you to Jet2 for your excellent service.More
