We had such high expectations ...
There are lots of good points about this hotel -Great location right on the front overlooking the marina. Lovely friendly reception staff and porter made check in very quick and easy. Beautiful reception area with fresh flowers. 1st floor room overlooking the pool - very spacious and super clean. No complaints whatsoever about the room, super comfy bed, efficient shower over bath, fridge, safe, TV, aircon and large balcony with afternoon sun. We were so pleased that we had booked the pool view room as the other rooms have awful views overlooking the road and the garden rooms with a terrace looked really dark and dreary. Maid service was excellent as was the cleaning throughout the whole hotel. Huge pool area but oh dear those claustrophobic sun loungers! There was no room to move in-between them and impossible to get any shade from the large umbrellas as they are fixed in position. We didn't mind the poolside entertainment, it was fun to watch the water volley ball even if you didn't join in. Apart from that and the aquafit there was no music at all around the pool so surely people can't complain if their peace is disturbed for only a couple of hours at most each day! The poolside snack bar was reasonable and had a varied menu and the staff served canapes around the pool twice a day which was a nice touch. Breakfast was varied with all the usual buffet choices and tea and coffee were served to your table. You just managed to get 2 cups - 1 each out of the jugs of milk and coffee which we felt was rather mean.. Dinner was from 8 when we arrived then it changed to 7:30 from 1st September - we found that if you were not there for the restaurant opening it was difficult to find a table and the crush around the buffet was terrible. I suppose if you went later it would be quieter but we do not like to eat that late in the evening. Terrible morose piped classical music in the restaurant did not create the atmosphere we expected. On the 2nd night we chose a table outside at the front overlooking the marina but were rudely told to move as the table was for 4? Yes there were 4 chairs but only 2 place settings. This put us off sitting outside even though we saw lots of couples sitting at those same tables for 4? The food all looked lovely however it was all in the presentation. The show cooked steaks and lamb were tough and gristly and stewed meats and pork were mostly bones. Some of the dishes were nice but only luke warm after you had queued up behind the masses all piling their plates high. The deserts were not to my taste at all - they all had a distinct artificial flavour and the cakes and pastries were mostly dry and tasteless. There was a fresh fruit selection and chocolate fountain which I enjoyed. The evening entertainment was mediocre with the exception of the Temptations group who were excellent and really got the crowd going. Stephan worked tirelessly to ensure everyone got a seat who wanted to watch the show. We had such high hopes for this hotel but sadly won't be returning.More
We. Had been here 5 years ago thought we come back you must get a poolside view lovely clean hotel room was lovely over looking the stag great entertainment inside out out nice the entertainment team were great in the pool every day. People moan about the music and the volley ball but it was only for 40 minutes. Think it's so wrong that men have to were trousers in the evening for dinner when it's so hot and you got girls coming in with swimsuit on and just a short top that so wrong and charge you for water with your meal but it's free in the morning food was just Luke warm need to goa long way before getting a 5 star but over all lovely placeMore
Fist time, great Hotel
First time at this hotel with my wife, firstly due to a previous medical condition, she can't eat a great deal, the restaurant manager was excellent, every evening he would un promptly take my wife around and explain the ingredients for each meal, excellent service, and the rest of the restaurant team touched all the service points.. For me the meal options were excellent and variety good, there is no need to pile your plates up, as some guest did regularly as there was always plenty of quantity with no danger of running out, the food was in abundance. Hotel was immaculate and I don't think it was dated as indicated in previous comments, room service was great. Reception colleagues was welcoming and very help full, my only real negative is the bar staff was not as friendly as the rest of the hotel, seamed a little odd as though they worked for a different hotel Positives 1. Sunbeds, loads and they remove towels when beds have been saved 2. Loads of entertainment inside and in the outside restaurant area 3. Food, breakfast and dinner is excellent 4. Hotel was spotless. Negatives 1. None Fab hotel, fab holiday just make sure your get a room over the pool, it's worth paying the extra and you will understand when you arrive, we had room 316, brilliant view of the stage and pool.. Great hotel, deserves the five stars from me More
Food excellent, dining areas lovely, room spacious comfortable and cleaned thoroughly every day. Staff friendly and attentive. Pool view room the best. Entertainment good and a choice of two acts every night. The only criticism is the beds round the pool are too close together and nowhere to move them apart. Parasols fixed so You have to consider people next to you who may not want shade. Also the hotel policy on not reserving beds was not implemented while we were there. A few minor changes in this area would make it a perfect hotelMore
First time would do it again.
First time at this hotel and would go back. We arrived at the hotel at 1.30am (flight delay) and was met by a very polite man on reception, he gave us a wet towel and 2 bottles of water. As we were too late for dinner but they had left us some salad, cooked meats and rolls in the dinning room ( much appreciated ). Sun beds are close but didn't worry us, we decided to play water volley ball and had a great time. As you might of read in a earlier review there is laughing and shouting but it's part of the game, and as it only is for about 30 - 45 mins a game I'm sure the people that weren't playing could cope with that. Thank you Stefan and Lydia for the the good laughs and keeping us entertained. The staff are lovely and our lady that cleaned our room was great, the only complaint was nothing to do with hotel it was the people at the restaurants who jump on you as soon as you look at their menu. All together we had a lovely time and would revisit this hotel again.More
