Fiesta Hotel Castell Playa

There’s Thomson Gold entertainment every night at this hotel, though you’re just a short walk from the bars and restaurants.

This place is on a hill, looking out over the sandy bay. It’s just a 5-minute walk to the bars and restaurants. And it’s no further to the beach, yet the hotel runs a courtesy bus there.

There’s a good-sized pool with a roomy sun terrace. For meals, there’s a buffet restaurant, and you also get a choice of bars. As for entertainment, you can see professional acts, cabaret and live music by the pool.

Our disappointing memorable holiday!

Although the hotel and resort was lovely, we found because we went at the end of the season some of the facilities we were looking forard to use had been withdrawn. eg. Sauna, all of the 4 poster loungers, one of the bars. During the day the staff were packing away excess tables and chairs from around the pool leaving a minimal amount for us to use. We found this very off putting when we were there to enjoy and relax around the pool. On a positive note the entertainment was exceptional, and so were the waiters and waitresses. We certainly would not go end of season again.More

Jill G,

Absolute Disgrace - Even The Staff Were Embarrassed

We were not advised by either the tour operator or the hotel that the premises would be closing down for the winter during our stay between the 6th and 13th October 2014. The hotel is not at all suitable for people who are not super fit and even though a mini bus service is provided to the desolate, deserted beach area during the morning & late afternoons there were very few options available for food, drink and entertainment outside of the hotel. The food provided was bland and as the week progressed choice reduced confirming that guests were being offered meals from the remaining stock in the refrigerators and freezers. Pool bar was closed down, seating removed etc and very poor entertainment provided during our stay. The staff were clearly embarrassed by the decision of the hotel management to start the winter closure while guests were still present. The TUI group (Thompson) who organised our package clearly misled us into believing that this would be a "Gold" package.More

Nice quiet resort!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel from 6 September for two weeks, all inclusive in a sea view suite which had the most wonderful sea views. We enjoyed out holiday but would not class this hotel as a 4 star due to the fact that there is need for quite alot of updating required. Although they have made a start in parts, our suite, furnishings and decor could be vastly improved. Staff of the hotel were exceptionally good in all departments, apart from the maid service which we had to complain about unfortunately because our suite had not been cleaned on a daily basis. However, the reception staff, to name two in particular, Belissa and Lydia, were both excellent. The staff in the restuarant were also excellent and also the lounge bar staff in particular the younf lady called Zidar. The food were found to be very good with lots of choices with different themes daily. We could recommend this hotel but would strongly point out that in parts it is very dated and certainly needs some refurbishment, especially the rooms. The only down point to this holiday for us was the Thompson Reps who were not very attentive in any way, and one in particular who was very dismissive and defensive on a issue that we mentioned to her.More

Peter B,

Mixed Review

I was slightly apprehensive about going on this holiday once I read the latest reviews a few days before departure. There were a lot of negative comments about the rooms, noise, food, hotel facilities etc. However, my first impressions were that it was a lovely hotel. The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming; the rooms were modern and fairly spacious for a package holiday and the room facilities were adequate. I particularly enjoyed the jacuzzi bath every night and I believe all rooms had this facility. Tea and coffee provisions were re-stocked each day, as were the bathroom provisions. The restaurant and bar staff were also very friendly and helpful and the bar staff remembered all our drinks, whether it was coffee by the pool after breakfast or lunch, early evening drinks or a late night nightcap. The food was mostly very nice, with a fairly wide selection. The resort beach was beautiful and the sea water was warm, very clear and blue. Now for the negative aspects: - The swimming pool water was far too cold, colder than the sea water, and only the very hardy ventured in for a swim. - The evening entertainment started off well, but got worse as the week went on. The entertainment staff weren't very imaginative and ended up doing a quiz most evenings. As there was a quiz every day by the pool at 4pm, it became slightly monotonous and we were all 'quizzed out' by the end of the week. - The food started off very well, but got worse as the week went on - a lot of the food was far too salty. Also, the service slowed down as the week progressed. - As the week went on, the staff numbers started dwindling and the poolside tables & chairs, and also the sun beds and umbrellas started disappearing before our eyes. It was always a struggle to find an umbrella, despite it being plain to see that there weren't enough left out. - Facilities outside the hotel were very limited, just the odd shop was open and only one or two beach bars. Everything else was mostly closed and it was a bit like a ghost town. Taking all the above into consideration, I began my holiday on 3 October and I found out that the holiday closed for the season on 15 October. I strongly believe, though, that if you pay Thomson Gold prices and expect to stay in a Thomson Gold 4 star hotel, then the correct level of facilities and service should be provided until the very end of the season. If a reduction in service and facilities is provided, then this should be reflected in the price and holidaymakers should be made aware of this fact when making the booking. Overall, I enjoyed my holiday. The excellent weather played a huge part, as well as the other holidaymakers I became friendly with. Without them, the holiday would have been a wash-out. I would certainly think very carefully before booking another Thomson Gold holiday.More

Ok hotel with a beautiful view

We booked a very last minute all inclusive holiday at this hotel and were unaware it was the last week of their season. It closed the day we left. I am therefore unsure how relevant this review will be for next season but some of it may be useful. Most of it has probably already been said by other reviewers so I'll try to keep it brief. By the end of the week the hotel was exceptionally quiet with less than 50 guests but the service, food and entertainment maintained the standards we had experienced at the beginning of the week. The views from the sea view room we had were beautiful and the room itself was ok - and spotlessly clean like the rest of the hotel. The beach was lovely and there was a bus down and back if you wanted, so no complaints about that - nobody needs to go up and down the steps. The resort was very quiet but that was a plus for us. Food was plentiful but pretty average, not my idea of 4 star. Freshly squeezed orange juice was a €3 supplement, which I have never experienced before, and a cappuccino was not in the AI package. We did not have lunch every day as we felt the food was a bit monotonous, despite themed evening meals - but we certainly never went hungry! The drinks available were generally fine, though the cocktails on the AI package weren't good. Some crisps or nuts with the drinks would have been good, though. The bar and dining room staff were pleasant and efficient. It must have been difficult for the entertainment team, resident duo and other evening acts to have such a small audience but they were great. We had not realised that a Thomson Gold hotel would mean there were constant activities/entertainment. We very rarely have package holidays, and although the daytime activities didn't interest us, we enjoyed the evening shows and the resident duo, Mellow Yellow, in particular. Overall, the hotel is ok, not what I would consider 4 star compared with other hotels we have stayed at but would recommend it as good value for couples who like organised, not too strenuous, activities and evening entertainment.More
