Would not return
Stayed here beginning September, as a couple, the staff at this hotel could not be faulted, they were a credit, hard working and friendly. Entertainment was good, although a little repedative, and very loud at times , could not have conversation with people sitting with you. Food always good, lots of choice at lunch and dinner. Reason we would not return is the fact that there is very little else to do,and no where for a walk in the evening, and the sun bed issue is dreadful, beds with towels on all day and management not doing anything about it. Hotel itself is great, area too quiet for usMore
First trip to Europe in 15 years. Picked a hotel and location for a relaxing holiday which this was and was hoping for a walk in the evening to try a restaurant or bar but the choice in the resort was not good at all Fabulous beach!!! Hotel room and pool lovely, staff were fab, very attentive. Glad we only booked a week as I think 2 weeks would have been very repetitive on the food front For a 4 star hotel the food was very processed and some of it felt very school dinner style. Some food left over was re used in different dishes at lunch or dinner Steph and Corey in the entertainments team were fab!!!! Overall good holiday but not sure I would returnMore
Never have photos been so misleading. We booked through TUI who have been very unhelpful and argued with us all the way regarding our complaints. The photos that TUI hold have been totally photoshopped, such as the pool area. The pool area is tiny and people are packed in like sardines. If it wasn't bad enough already the place has a tacky Benidorm vibe which just sucks your soul from you. Which is rather suiting considering the average age of the guest here is 70, me and my partner are 23 and 25. I have never seen so many elderly packed into one space than I have here. It's walking sticks and crutches galore. Some of the photos in the Fiesta Hotel Castell Playa have been edited to look more enticing than they actually are. No the bali beds aren't on display and aren't in use. Said picture makes the hotel seem far more exotic than it actually is. The TUI reps are non existent, when we began our complaint the day we arrived Sophie tried to blame it on us being tired. Tiredness won't change the dated facilities, poor pool facilities and robotic staff. The poor staff here seem so overworked they fire around the place stressed, sweaty (even on cold days), and snap at each other. The room itself was average. The room seemed pleasant but the bedding is exactly the same as the bedding you get in hospitals; but Brown. The bathroom was pleasant and even had a fabulous shower and jets in the bath for a nice soak. Sitting at the bar overlooking the surrounding area and you'll understand the OAP club/bingo vibe. The elderly seem content with their plight here and more than likely consist of the positive reviews in this lacklustre devoid of flattery pit. They grunt at staff and point at things they want at meal times forgetting or perhaps ignorant that the staff can speak English. The nearby beach is not so nearby. For the many elderly here they struggle with the many steps to get to the beach and stop panting out of breath at various points. Luckily me and my partner just about managed our travel without being too tested. The 'high calibre hotel' and 'excellent service' marketed by TUI gold are not here. Please heed my warnings and do not book here. I wasted £1560 here and I am still regretting it on Day 2. There are so many better options elsewhere please don't be stuck here like we are. If the hotel was good enough like it is advertised at being then it would compensate for the lack of things to do in the local area like some areas we have stayed. But please please be wary with this hotel and take all pictures with a (handful) of salt. We have spent similar or less to stay at Platinum resorts that were utterly gorgeous and even Sensatori. Avoid like the plague. 3 stars is my review and that's me being generous. More
Waited on hand and foot
First of all, I am writing this on behalf of my wife, my sister and brother in law who came because we persuaded them to come after we came in September 2014. I have read lots of reviews and am amazed at the derogatory ones I read. In fact Cory (who was one of the Entertainments team) read one out which made me really angry. That one said that Cory and Steph were full of their own Ego and strutted about all day and didn't bother to go up to the terraces to speak to them. Well, considering the daily entertainment was around the pool and that they had hundreds of people to cater for, and considering they were on the go all day, I'm not surprised .If the reviewers had took the trouble to join in as I did, they not only would have been greeted with 2 of the nicest people we have met, but they also remembered my name and I only played Killer pool 3 times.(my name is Vic). Not only that, they contributed greatly to the evening entertainment and were very good singers and made the quizzes funny and interesting. We arrived the 1st September and the weather was not good but luckily we had good company and were able to play cards sometimes or just sit and chat in the excellent bar/theatre. Once again Steph and Cory entertained there as well when the weather was really bad. Now to the resident duo of Damon and Sarah. I have played Guitar all my life and Damon could play anything from The Shadows to Pink Floyd to Mark Knopfler to Carlos Santana to Eric Clapton. The List goes on. Amazing guitarist and very drole with his partner Sarah .She had a Lovely voice and I didn't hear a bum note in 2 weeks. The Comedians and other entertainers were excellent and thoroughly enjoyed by most of us.(those who had a sense of humour and weren't tone deaf). Most nights the theatre was packed all night. The service as before was excellent by all the staff who were all efficient and very hard working. A special mention to Mari (who we wanted to take home because she was so lovely), Juanjo, Juammi, Jose, Ari, alex , Dani and of course, Paco . There were others who didn't cover where we sat but they also were brilliant. The restaurant staff were also very good and the clearing of plates was very fast. The food was very good but there were queues for the speciality dishes and sometimes the dishes were not replaced very quickly when empty. Not really a problem though. The receptionists were very helpful and friendly. Our cleaner was awesome (room 105) and our room was spotless with clean towels and sheets almost every other day. Arena Den castell is a beautiful place but very quiet. The Beach is lovely and there is a courtesy bus to bring you back as the Hotel is on a hill high up and overlooks the Bay. Now for the bad bits; Not the Hotels fault because Tui have decreed that men can wear shorts in the evening! Of course, many did not know where to draw the Line so swimming shorts were soon appearing. I have no problem Hygienically but wearing trousers makes it a different ambience wise and makes it like an evening out in a nice restaurant. When we arrived there were signs by the pool area and letters in our room stating that towels would be removed if left on the sunbeds. This was totally ignored and not enforced at all. Consequently people were putting towels on beds at a ridiculous hour and then disappearing. Some off on trips and not arriving until late afternoon. I know it is difficult to enforce but it would put me off coming back.) Also on arrival we had to pay out about 110 euros for a safe (55 euros), tourist tax (36 euros), and 2 towels (20 euros which we got back when we left). Most expensive Safe we've ever hired. Some reviewers say this is not a 4 Star Hotel. How many 4 Star hotels have they been to that wait on them "hand and Foot" Finally, would we go back? If we knew Steph, Cory, Sarah and Damon, the waiters I mentioned and all the staff, then definitely. Not forgetting the Restaurant Manager and his lovely staff and the chief rep Sophie.(If she doesn't go to Iceland which she loves.More

Chilled Out Stay
Stayed here first two weeks in September the staff are an absolute credit to the Hotel everyone that we encountered couldn't do enough for you. Excellent choice of food (don't know how anyone else could say different). Yes it's getting a little dated but still kept very clean and very well staffed (which makes a change in this day & age!). There is the usual early risers getting there sun beds ( must admit I did this in our second week! sad I know but if can't beat them join them!) Yes the surrounding area is very steep but it does state this in overview of Hotel and they do provide a mini bus up and down to beach if needed but us being us we did the walking and climbing even though some days was hard going. We went out and about on local buses and really can say we had a good holiday - weather was a bit changeable but nobody has any control over that just have to make most of it.More
