I stayed AI at this hotel 11th-18th September, travelling from MAN on my own as a 30yr old female.
My first time travelling with Thomson, a Gold Package and staying at this hotel, I was more than impressed. I've probably had one of the best holidays, that's thanks to the hardworking staff, the people I met and I made the most of my holiday.
It is set on a hill, with 144(ish) steps down to the beach. I actually liked this, the added exercise meant I could eat more cake and drink more wine! The loungers round the pool are too close together, that's just my personal opinion as I like my space. I never struggled to find one and didn't really spot any issues with people reserving and struggling. I spent a few days down on the beach, it's lovely - white sand and crystal clear sea.
There is a wooden walkway on the beach which is nice to stroll down. I got out and about running, the area is great for it. There are trail/walking information boards with an easy/medium/difficult routes to follow. Definitely worth checking out to see more of the local area.
The sea view from the hotel was absolutely beautiful, if you are lucky enough to get a table near the window in the restaurant you will really appreciate it.
The hotel and communal areas were always immaculately clean. The staff are extremely hard working and so nice, they always spoke to me and asked if I was ok with me being on my own. I really felt that they looked after me. Massive thanks to them all, Jesus, Paco and all the ladies in the restaurant and Lumide in the entertainment area. It was great having drinks brought to you at the pool and in the evening.
The reps are helpful, Cara and Shaney helped me with local information. Mark was great with the entertainment, something to make you smile. The duo resident act Mellow Yellow, Amy & Ludo were on most nights, they sang a range of songs and were good.
My favourite entertainment acts of the week were the boy band tribute Adrenaline and entertainer Chris Lafferty - both acts were fabulous!
I'm a fussy eater and did not struggle once, I enjoyed the food. It was hot, labelled and a good variety.
This hotel is exclusive to Thomson and Brit only, I think this is what gave it a great atmosphere. I was worried about my age as lots of reviews said younger people don't fit in - that is not true at all, such a variety. My holiday was made fabulous due to all the people I met - the couple next to me in room 132, Robbie and his wife Beth at the evening entertainment, Debbie and Danielle who were also on holiday on their own )we just all happened to sunbath in the same area). Natalie and her parents Dave & Jo, such lovely people. Finally Lorraine and Neil who were responsible for a tequila hangover :)
I would recommend this hotel, I would also return. More
A standard thomson gold hotel
First impressions of hotel very 70s outside, dark marble inside, We were pleased with
our superior room, large, quite modern with a bay view and extras included in the price.
The selection of food in the restaurant was mainly very good .We normally had our main courses cooked to order. The restaurant could be very busy at peak times but the cards indicating whether the tables were occupied or free were a very good idea.
Most of the evening entertainment was good, the resident duo mellow Yellow and the Chinese Acrobats were excellent. The hotel staff and Thomson reps were helpful and friendly .Unfortunately the position of the hotel at the top of a hill and the 130 plus steps down to the boardwalk and beach makes it a difficult resort to walk around.
The resort doesn't have much of interest if you don't want to be on the beach.
Its worth going out on the various trips to other places around the island.More
This year we were very disappointed with this holiday as the hotel had a Butlins feel to it due to the nature of the entertainment provided by the Thomson staff. Some of the female Thomson Staff also seemed to seek out guests with the sole intention of talking loudly about themselves. Whilst this seemed to please many of the guests, it was not for us.
The hotel did not, in our opinion, meet the four star standard of other, similar all inclusive, adult only hotels which we have enjoyed via Thomson.
We also felt that the hotel was mis-represented by selective photography.
I must add however, that the hotel staff were excellent.More
We have just returned from a weeks holiday at the very end of the season for the Castell Playa and we do take that into account in our review. We stayed from 10th to 17th October and the hotel closed until next season on 19th October.
When our minibus transfer pulled up in front of the hotel I was in complete awe of the amazing view down to the sea. I'm a complete sucker for a view and I was in love with it.
We were greeted at reception with a refreshing fruit drink and a Thomson rep handed us a welcome pack and invited us to the welcome meeting the following morning. Reps are important at a hotel for me and I had been concerned at being told at the airport that because it was end of season they weren't sure if we'd have any reps but I was delighted there were a team of 5 still there and that only reduced to 4 during the week so that was great.
Check in was very quick and we were soon up in our room admiring the pool view. Headed down for lunch straight away as it was due to finish and we had a lovely seat by the window of the restaurant looking down over the bay - this hotel has some of the most amazing views. Polished off a bottle of red wine and couldn't be happier.
Later on is when we discovered the average age of guests at the hotel. At 27 myself and my partner 30, we were a good 20 years at least younger than anyone else at the hotel. We walked into the restaurant and we're basically stunned, and a little uncomfortable about it initially. Having said that, the type of holiday we wanted was a relaxing week to ourselves and so in the end it didn't impact too much and we got along with a few people we got speaking to in the bar.
The resident act Mellow Yellow were amazing, providing fab music every night and I honestly have no idea why they are doing the circuits when they should be signed up! The main acts that followed each night were good, however very much geared to the older audience, not a problem for me per say as I love Motown and 60's music but if I didn't I'd have been a bit stuck with it with not much in the surrounding area still being open. Perhaps a more varied entertainment programme would be well received, it was all music and my partner mentioned they should have comedians, magicians etc, vary it up a bit.
Lucy the Thomson rep was fantastic. She was always full of energy and I got the impression it wouldn't matter if there were 20 or 200 people in the room she would have that amount of energy no matter what. She's a credit to Thomson and I hope they know that.
Ants in the room were a problem but thankfully didn't get us down too much. We had a broken shower which was fixed the same day we reported it which was brilliant.
A major down point for me was not being able to enjoy the pool. It was simply just way too cold to get into and enjoy. It would have benefited from just being a couple of degrees warmer and that was the general feeling of all the guests we spoke to and heard talking about it. I felt pretty let down by that. Similarly the day beds were only made up on our last day when the hotel was having an inspection, a shame really as they'd been used as a big selling point by thomson when booking the holiday.
The hotel staff were friendly, polite and very helpful. They work like machines!
Food was good, although get down early enough otherwise it starts to go a bit dry/Luke warm under the hot plates. I've definitely come back a stone heavier - fab choice and plenty of it!
All in all the holiday was what we wanted it to be, but as for going back it probably wouldn't be for a few years unless we did just want a completely chilled out week. Any longer would have been too long due to the lack of things about (bearing in mind it was end of the season though). More
Me and my friend stayed here from the 10th October for a week and had a great stay. The room was fantastic on second floor overlooking the pool and to the right could see the sea. We had a jacuzzi bath and a really powerful shower which we thought was fantastic, home from home. The beach was just down the road and a few steps down which we used for our daily exercise. We cheated and caught the hotel shuttle back up though. The entertainment was good also, at night. In the day there was activity by the pool such as a quiz, aerobics and bowls. The sun loungers were modern and ample to go round too. The food overall was varied and we'll presented and something for everyone. I particularly enjoyed the paela. I did try almost everything and never had any stomach problems as I've had from other hotels. The staff worked like Trojans and everything was spotless. My only quarm was that we were half board and we never even had one drink with our meal, which I think wouldn't of hurt, even a water would have done. But there you go Fiesta maybe you could find it in your heart to change this one liitle thing for us half boarders. On the down side there isn't any other places to eat apart from a Chinese and a cafe down towards the beach. There is a gift shop and a supermarket down there too. WiFi is pretty good at the cafe and around that area as its not up to much in the room, even if you pay for it. It is quiet hotel without the screaming kids which is brilliant. The lifts are also adequate with three in one area, so no fighting at the door. All in all I would recommend this hotel for a lovely relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle. The hotel receptionist is lovely and her English is excellent. She is always smiling and nothing is too much trouble. The weather was also nice and hot so that was a bonus.More
