There’s Thomson Gold entertainment every night at this hotel, though you’re just a short walk from the bars and restaurants.
This place is on a hill, looking out over the sandy bay. It’s just a 5-minute walk to the bars and restaurants. And it’s no further to the beach, yet the hotel runs a courtesy bus there.
There’s a good-sized pool with a roomy sun terrace. For meals, there’s a buffet restaurant, and you also get a choice of bars. As for entertainment, you can see professional acts, cabaret and live music by the pool.

Arrived back yesterday from our summer break. We had a Seaview room on the 3rd floor thankfully otherwise we would have been kept awake with the evening entertainment which finished quite late and early morning desperation for sunbeds. Some people didn't take any notice of the hotel policy that towels should not be placed on sunbeds then disappear for ages and were very happy to be squashed together like sardines just to catch the sun. Not once did the hotel management try to address this. The whole time there we had a permanent Water feature in reception a bucket and towels soaking up drips from ceiling. Mealtimes on occasion was very busy food on the whole not to bad. The Best thing about this Hotel are the staff nothing was too much trouble . View from room was stunning. This hotel is never a Thompson gold have stayed in better for less money. I feel it is not the place if you struggle to manage hills. I would not recommend this hotel. Pictures on website are very deceiving.More
Great Hotel. Amazing staff!

Just returned from 2 weeks at the Castell Playa and we had one of our best holidays ever. The hotel is clean and comfortable rather than luxurious so it is not intimidating or full of people trying to be something they are not. The reception staff are warm and welcoming. We had booked Half Board and we upgraded to All Inclusive on check in which proved to be a wise decision as drinks were expensive. Locally it was €20 per person per day for standard AI or €25 per day for premium AI. We did the latter for the sake of the extra €5 as this entitled us to quite a few extras such as branded spirits, Irish coffee, ice creams, crisps, peanuts, a more extensive wine selection in the restaurant plus the use of the poolside snack bar for lunch if we didn't fancy going into the restaurant which we did a few times and thoroughly enjoyed. Rooms were clean and comfortable and had plenty of storage plus a kettle, fridge and hairdryer. Beds were very comfortable and I slept really well. There were 2 bottles of water in the fridge on arrival plus a small hospitality tray. Refilling of the hospitality tray was sporadic so we bought a small jar of coffee and some milk in the supermarket just so we had a guaranteed 'gin recovery coffee' of a morning before going to breakfast. We had a seaview room and the view of Arenal's horseshoe bay was spectacular. The balcony chairs were quite comfortable and it is very peaceful on this side of the hotel so enjoying a G&T on the balcony of an evening admiring the yachts and boats moored in the bay was a real treat. There is also a safe in the room which is chargeable and if you are staying for 2 weeks the standard 12 hangers in the wardrobe may not be enough depending on how many clothes you take so you may want to take a couple of extras in your case. The food here is amazing. There is an extensive variety and the quality is excellent. It ranges from simple soups and roasts to speciality dishes relative to that evening's theme and impressive show cooking. If you have a sweet tooth you will appreciate the desserts. I'm more savoury orientated but even I indulged in pudding a few nights such was the appeal. The omlettes at breakfast were lovely too plus they had proper British style sausages rather than the spicy or frankfurter type that are common in foreign hotels. This is a nod to the fact that this is a hotel geared up predominantly for British guests. The staff here make your holiday and I have never felt so well looked after at a hotel. The reception staff are excellent. The restaurant staff are lovely and we would like to mention Lisette and Eugenia in particular who looked after us very well. The bar staff are second to none and work really hard. Paco is like a whirling dervish around the place, he is so efficient. Our favourite though was Ludmila who looked after us really well and was so personable as well. The entertainment is brilliant here. The daytime activities organised by Corey and Steph are easily accessible but not 'in your face' and they don't interupt your relaxing if you don't want to get involved. The evening entertainment is brilliant and consists of a 45 minute set by the brilliant resident duo 'Coverflow' followed by a quiz then the main cabaret act (some better than others although the Comedians and the rep shows tend to be the best) then another 45 minute set from Coverflow which you can dance to. Your Entertainment hosts Corey and Steph are both brilliant comperes and also do a cabaret act each. They are both brilliant but I have to confess to a soft spot for Steph who is a little treasure and is a very talented singer and dancer as well as my 'dance buddie'. I would adopt her tomorrow! Lol! The pool is lovely but the reserving of sun beds is an issue. Some people even bragged that they went down at 6.30am to get their preferred spot! Really???? The first week we managed to get a good spot by just going to the pool after breakfast as we always do in other hotels but the 2nd week the reserving got worse and whilst I would not get up at stupid o'clock to reserve a bed on principle we did end up finding it necessary to drop our stuff at beds on our way to breakfast even though it felt uncomfortable doing so. The lack of space is the issue and maybe the solution would be to knock down the unused round building on the elevated terrace as it is a bit of an eye sore with the shabby roller blinds and create another terrace there? This was our first visit to this hotel and also our first experience of Thomson Gold and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Arenal d'castell is a very pretty but very quiet resort with just a handful of bars and restaurants. The beach is gorgeous but there are a lot of steps to get to it. Lots of people mentioned the 'steep hill' up to the hotel which isn't half as bad as I expected. I would definitely do a Gold holiday again as the whole concept suited my husband and I really well. We don't tend to re-visit the same hotels twice as there's a lot of world to see but I think we might make an exception for this hotel possibly as a 2nd holiday for a week of R&R with great entertainmentMore
Lovely Relaxed Week
Had a lovely relaxed week. Beautiful location with amazing beach nearby. Lovely room with excellent aircon overlooking pool area. Food really good with many choices. Dining room does get rather full but when we was there the hotel was fully booked. The evening entertainment was exceptional - very professional and wonderfully co-ordinated by Cory and Stef. Yes there is a mad rush for the sunbeds early in the morning but we always managed to get a couple what ever time we arrived. Finally - the staff - they are all a credit to this hotel, hardworking, courteous and happy. I dont like highlighting particular staff but Paco (the fastest drinks waiter ever) and Lidia on Reception were outstanding! Many thanks for a wonderful holiday. We hope to return in the future.More
had a brilliant holiday. Staff friendly and helpful, Beautiful sea views .
We had a lovely relaxing holiday at Fiesta hotel Castel Player. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The food is good with plenty of choice. We would recomend a room with sea views. There is a local airconditioned bus service. will take you to mahon or fornells. There are plenty of coastal walks organised groups or by yourself if prefered. There are activities and trips from the hotel should you wish to participate. The evening entertainment is good . The rooms are clean and spacious cleaned every day with tea and coffee facilities, fridge and hairdryer . We plan to go again next year More
