Hotel Santa Ponsa Park/Pionero

A central hotel with great entertainment, the Pionero/Santa Ponsa Park has got all corners covered. Two roomy pools offer up a whole cast of water-based activities, and come evening live shows are on the cards. Rooms are nice and spacious, too.

Right in the heart of the seaside town of Santa Ponsa, this complex has got everything on its doorstep. Forget tracking down bus stops and hunting for cabs - the beach, bars, restaurants and shops are all within flip-flopping distance.

But this place has got more than just location on its side - there’s the actual hotel facilities, too. Star billing goes to its impressive entertainment menu. You’ve got a selection of daytime activities like water polo, archery and volleyball, while live shows pick up the baton in the evening. Kids aren’t left out either - they get their own playroom, and kids aged five and over can join in the fun at the hotel’s hobby club.

Then there's a couple of big swimming pools to consider, complete with a kids section, set into a good-sized sun terrace. And there are plenty of sunbeds and thatched parasols out here, too.

Step inside, meanwhile, and you’ll find the bedrooms. They’re light, spacious and simply styled with whitewashed walls and light wood furniture. What’s more, they all come with private balconies.

Faulty towers

We sat on the transfer bus in Palma airport for 45 minutes and then traveled to Santa Ponsa via Maguluf which took another 1 1/2 hours.,not a good start. The grumpy driver then drove past our hotel and was not pleased when he had to turn back.I had asked months ago if I could have a room near my sister in law as she is semi disabled but on booking in was told no.We were nowhere near each other which made things a bit difficult and with only one lift working most days, could not use the stairs because of her disability. The rooms were ok ,that is until I lost an earring and looked under the bed,not a pretty site,I couldn't believe the dirt under there. Then the maids forgot we existed and didn't clean the room for nearly 2 days. And as for the bottle of wine in the warm fridge, well it was off, as was everybody else's.No aircon working only fan. The first day we couldn't find a sunbed or even a chair in the sun. The second day we found a sunbed but it was mostly in the shade because of the tall trees that block the sun out.By the third day I got it worked out.Up at 6-30, pitch black, stars still out, towels ready,to find that all the sun beds that would be in the sun and there's only one side of the pool that stayed in the sun all day, were gone.Gutted. The main pool is quite nice but the indoor pool was never open. The food is good most of the time and the wine with the meals was great and ice cold. We had a couple of surprises .The first was there was no drinking water in our rooms. We had to go to a supermarket and buy it.You could get a plastic glass from the bar if you queued up for about 30 minutes.I thought we were all inclusive and if you want an extra pillow and believe me,you do,you have to pay for it.The pillow is about two inches thick. Then there was the coach driver who dropped everyone off at the sister hotel next door. All day long we watched people with their luggage trying to find a route around the sun beds to find the reception.WHY. If you like bingo in the afternoon then again at night, this is the place to be,along with the very amateur entertainment team,we were fighting for chairs outside so we didn't have to listen to it. Saying that the Michael Jackson tribute band were fantastic pity they were leaving for Tenerife the next day. Next queuing at the bar was not funny,it was a joke. Cocktails out of a machine that all tasted the same and usually only one person serving. Everybody grumbling. The good thing about this place was there were some nice staff, lady who was behind the bar and the guy in the pizza place, very friendly. The staff as you entered the dining room were lovely, full marks. The massage tent near the pool ,brilliant and most of all,the lovely people we met .All in all,you get what you pay for and we didn't pay a lot but water and a decent pillow is a must.Isn't it? Despite every thing we did have a good time because we laughed everything off and it gave us a lot to talk about. Needless to say.we paid for a taxi back to the airport ( money well spent) instead of getting picked up four hours before the flight. We took our time and had a lovely breakfast. I think we must have been to a different hotel to some of the reviewers.More

lovely hotel

stayed here for a short break last week, hotel was lovely and clean, staff all very pleasant and helpful, not much entertainment on as the last week of the season and hotel very quiet but entertainment team always about for a chat/joke etc and looked after the kids. Food was nice and always found plenty to eat, compared well with other same class AI i have been to...for end of October the weather was really nice however resort was getting quieter by the day as it closed down for the Santa Ponsa and will probably be back next year and would use hotel again, really good value for moneyMore

Great stay

Just back from a One week all inclusive stay, Food great as was the room, although noisy at times. Very clean and most of the staff polite and friendly. We were very lucky with the weather for this time of year so spent most day's on the lovely clean beach! All inclusive was great, always plenty of choice at breakfast lunch and dinner. Drinks were fine but sometimes had to wait a while to get served. Some of the bad reviews make me laugh! for what we paid for a week all inclusive was incredible value! Looking forward to another week next year!More

Love this place

Can't keep away from the Pionero! It's so friendly and everybody can't seem to do enough to make your stay perfect. When I was there this time, got talking to someone on there 10th year, so on my 6th visit still got some catching up to do! But I think it shows how consistently excellent a hotel is, when customers keep continually returning, as I hopefully will be next year! Thank you all again. More

Good Staff, Good Location, but not 4 Star

Stayed here for a week from Oct 18th. Weather was fabulous, and temperatures were well above expected. This hotel is the poor sister of the Santa Ponsa Park Hotel, and both hotels adjoin. They could use our bar, if theirs was busy, but we couldn't use theirs. Checked in smoothly, and requested a pool view. I was firmly told that this was not possible. No reason given. The room was fine but could do with updating. There was a fridge in there which was pointless (see picture). Even though you could hear it working, it didn't cool anything, nor did it have any shelves. Air con was just about working. Shower was good. At least 1 lift was out of action at any one point. We were on the 4th floor, so it was probably did us some good to take the stairs. On the positive side, the staff were wonderful. We went all inclusive, and the lunch and dinner food was ok, and breakfast was delicious. The bar could attract long queues especially when there was only one barperson serving. Christina and Maria deserve extra praise for the courtesy and friendliness they showed. Pool was always clean, and we rarely saw full occupation of the sun loungers. Animation team worked hard. Entertainment was average at best, and varied from night to night. The hotel is a few minutes walk to the beach. We took the bus to Palma, and did the open top bus tour. Nothing to speak of, but the cathedral was quite imposing. Gaudi influence here. Also spent a day at Peguera. Lovely beach and town. Cheap bus gets you there. Overall, this is a lovely hotel with superb staff. Never saw any staff not smiling.More
