Hotel Santa Ponsa Park/Pionero

Loading

A central hotel with great entertainment, the Pionero/Santa Ponsa Park has got all corners covered. Two roomy pools offer up a whole cast of water-based activities, and come evening live shows are on the cards. Rooms are nice and spacious, too.

Right in the heart of the seaside town of Santa Ponsa, this complex has got everything on its doorstep. Forget tracking down bus stops and hunting for cabs - the beach, bars, restaurants and shops are all within flip-flopping distance.

But this place has got more than just location on its side - there’s the actual hotel facilities, too. Star billing goes to its impressive entertainment menu. You’ve got a selection of daytime activities like water polo, archery and volleyball, while live shows pick up the baton in the evening. Kids aren’t left out either - they get their own playroom, and kids aged five and over can join in the fun at the hotel’s hobby club.

Then there's a couple of big swimming pools to consider, complete with a kids section, set into a good-sized sun terrace. And there are plenty of sunbeds and thatched parasols out here, too.

Step inside, meanwhile, and you’ll find the bedrooms. They’re light, spacious and simply styled with whitewashed walls and light wood furniture. What’s more, they all come with private balconies.

4 Star? Not even a 3 on a good day

Just back from a weeks all inclusive here, as a family group with 13 of us. Firstly, the good stuff. Rooms were OK, with comfortable beds. Maid service good, with rooms cleaned just about every day. Bar was ok, never too long to get served, bar staff were good, drinks were ok for the usual cheap local spirits and beer was ok (but Mahou, not San Miguel or Estrella). Snack bar pizza's, chips, burgers etc were good (an what we lived on most of the week) As for the bad? Where do I start? Well, first, and the main bugbear, the food. It was absolutely awful. Never hotter than lukewarm, lunch and dinner usually consisted of choice of two meats and two fish (as well as the usual salads, cold meat, chips etc). For a four star hotel, to put on "Veal" which looked and tasted worse than a Dalepak grillsteak, or "Cordon Bleu" which was a slice of boiled ham fried in breadcrumbs, we could not believe how bad the food actually was. On our second night there was steak on. It was tougher than old shoe leather, and practically everyone in the restaurant had left it on their plates. The only decent thing tasted all week was a pork stew, which consisted more of fat and gristle than actual meat. There was chicken thighs and drumsticks two lunchtimes which were ok, but other than that was dreadful. I am not a fish eater, but members of our group had fish on numerous occasions, and said it was "cold tasteless and full of bones". It was that bad, we paid to go and eat elsewhere 4 nights out of 6. Daytime Entertainment was largely ok, with the usual darts, pool, rifle shooting, archery, water polo etc. The problem was when they announced it, they would come around for a good half hour before, shouting and blowing whistles. Was a nightmare for anyone trying to relax. Sunbeds around pool. If you actually managed to get one, were really new and comfortable. Problem is, arrive at the pool after 8am, and your chances of actually getting one was virtually nil. There were nowhere near enough, and a distinct lack of space, you were practically lying on top of the person next to you. Evening Entertainment was so bad it was embarrassing. Michael Jackson thing was average, everything else was shocking. Blues Brothers tribute played 2 blues brothers songs, and then went off to get dressed as other things doing Elvis stuff etc? We managed about 10 minutes of 3 nights before we went out and sat by the (closed) pool bar. Reception - unbelievable levels of incompetence. First day, whilst trying to hire the safe in the room, had to go back to reception 4 times to get it because "they were too busy", and a complete rip off at 30 Euros a week plus 10 deposit. On two occasions, our party was told they didn't have the key when they did, because the same women behind there misheard 159 as 149 both times. Then on last morning, nearly missed coach to the airport, because the alarm call we had booked for 6:30am didn't arrive til gone 6:50am. Then when we got to reception, the coach was getting held up as we were waiting for the deposit from the safe. We told the man behind reception we were in a hurry as the coach was waiting (as he was sorting keys from the dropbox), when he said we should have been ready earlier. We would have been had he been bothered placing the alarm call when he should have. This is the second time we have been to a Globales hotel, and will never go near one again. Both have been comfortably the worst hotels we have ever been. We have stayed at 2 and 3 star all inclusive's all over spain, and all have been streets ahead of what, in effect, was the Santa Ponsa version of Fawlty Towers. I will be interested to see if there is any reply to this review, as the management of this hotel seem to reply to the good reviews on here, and completely ignore any negative ones.More

Lovely holiday

I have just returned from very enjoyable stay at the Pionero. Centrally situated in busy resort, close to the beach. I was all inclusive, and found the food very good, always fresh, and with a good choice at every meal, and excellent service. The rooms were a little careworn, but always very clean, thanks to a friendly and extremely hard working team of cleaners. The public areas were spacious and cool, especially welcome in the heat of the day, and the pools were great for swimming and for fun, and, like everything else in the Pionero, were very well kept. The entertainers were on the ball from morning to night time, friendly, inclusive and just a wee bit crazy, which is just right in that job. I would recommend this hotel happily ....More

Lovely Hotel

Visited in May this year for 10 day all inclusive with hubby and parents. Asked to be in the Pionero side which is 4 star and got a side view of the pool as most rooms don't face directly onto it. Immaculate hotel, lovely marble floors and rooms with very nice bathroom, largest walk in shower i had seen in a hotel. Staff lovely, very hard working and animation team worked hard to include everyone in their games. Seen some good shows, Micheal Jackson tribute by 3 young lads, Dancing team (fellas loved as they were scantily dressed!) etc. Food excellent, lots of choice and always some meat or fish being cooked in front of you. Only one gripe which may have been changed now, people from the other hotel joined in this complex were different colored AI bands but could drink in our side but we weren't allowed to drink in their side which was ridiculous as it made our side really busy with queues at the bar especially when something good was on stage but if we wanted to go over their side to watch something then we had to walk back past the pool carrying drinks.Everyone complained about this so maybe its changed since then. It was starting to get busy when we came away on 21st May but Santa Ponsa is a lovely resort and this Hotel is ideally situated just a short walk from all the bars and beach. We would visit again.More

4 star?

Arrived here on Sunday. Pool nice, bar ok, rooms nice and comfortable beds, night time entertainment unbelievably bad. Food? Absolutely awful. Always lukewarm, next to no choice of meats, can't get a drink in the restaurant with your meal on all inclusive. Been on 2 star all inclusives before with much better food than this. Not impressed at all. This is the 2nd time we have been to a globales hotel, and both been comfortably the worst all inclusives we've ever been to. Never again More

BE WARNED.

Be warned if considering staying here. Just returned from seven night holiday. Party of 3 adults, 2 children booked 2 rooms. On arrival told no room for us! Other guests also treated in this disgraceful way. Told all rooms in all 3 of their hotels full! Offered self catering accommodation other side of bay but with no facilities and would have to commute to and fro to main hotel if wanted any facilities! Not practical especially if have children and not what we paid for, (all inclusive). Eventually had to go to another hotel in Magaluf, one of the teenage party areas of the Med, and lived out of suitcases before moving back to hotel 2 days later. This happened to many so be warned. Will update later with more details when have more time. Much more to come...More
