Villa Frare

in Sa Pobla , Majorca

  • Short drive to Buger
  • Spacious and enchanting
  • Pretty views towards Sa Pobla village
Villa Frare has that Majorcan farmhouse-feel down to a fine art. With its thick stone walls and tiny windows, it sits in the middle of countryside that looks like it’s not changed for centuries. The area, known as ‘the land of a thousand windmills’, is full of wonderful landscapes stretching across to the Tramuntana mountains. The small hamlet of Buger, meanwhile, is just a few minutes drive away.

As for the interiors of the villa itself, the restoration’s made sure every room has a simple but attractive style that complements the modern facilities. A number of rooms have interior stonework walls, together with rustic floor tiles and high, sloping pine ceilings with exposed beams.

The living room is uncluttered and relaxing, with comfy sofa and armchairs, while the kitchen has all the mod cons you need. With its long wooden dining table and elegant chairs, it’s a lovely place to dine. On the other hand, the exterior of Villa Frare is every bit as nice as the interior, so eating outside is hard to beat.

A wide paved terrace sits between the villa and the swimming pool. Alongside, is a lawn stretching back towards the shaded porch. What’s more, with a covered barbecue, it’s a perfect setting for al fresco meals.

Your guide to Sa Pobla, Majorca

"A stroll through the streets of Sa Pobla in the northeast is a delight. Stand in the shadow of the lovely 17th-century parish church. Take a wander round the contemporary art museum. Or browse the stalls of the Sunday market. There are some tempting bars and restaurants waiting to be discovered. Plus, of course, there’s the nearby S’Albufera Nature Park, one of the most important ecological enclaves in the Balearics."

Brimming with beautiful countryside views and an abundance of nature, Sa Pobla is the perfect place to come if you want to discover Majorca’s stunning landscapes. Set slightly inland this is where the fertile plains produce the famous Majorcan potatoes, often seen in your local UK supermarket, with vistas stretching over to the majestic Tramuntana chain in the north. You can’t help but settle straight into the gentle pace of life here, so get set for some real relaxation, Spanish style. Stroll around Sa Pobla’s tangle of quaint streets and make your way to the delightful old quarter at the heart of the village. You’ll find a sprinkling of shops here to pop your head in and out of, as well as a bustling Sunday market selling local produce. When you want to rest your legs, take a seat at one of the many little restaurants or bars dotted about and tuck into traditional Majorcan specialities. If you’re holidaying with children, or just want to rekindle the child in you, take the time to visit the delightful museum of toys and games. One of the main highlights here though is the S'Albufera Nature Park in nearby Alcudia, one of the most important ecological parks in the Balearic Islands. Internationally protected, it draws in hikers and walkers in their droves and is a mecca for bird watchers with more than 200 species of waterfowl and 30 varieties of fish. Why not hire a bike and set off to explore this wonderful attraction? Just don’t forget your binoculars and camera.
