Excellent hotel, noisy area

I would normally knock one star off for having a busy road next to the hotel but everything else is so good I couldn't bring myself to do that. Road noise is not noticeable in the rooms if doors closed but when open it certainly is. Hotel location is a ten minute walk to the port with its expensive restaurants or 5 minutes to more local ones - Malbec was our favourite. The other part of Portals with more restaurants is a good 20 minute walk or a €1.50 bus ride on the 104/107. As reported elsewhere, the staff here are so friendly and get anything for you with a smile. The hotel has only opened this year but it doesn't feel like it's just down to that but a good training plan. We had a discount deal with an upgrade to a deluxe room which is very large and fully fitted with everything but tea facilities or iron. Bathroom is wet room style and thus does get a wet floor at one end; the shower itself makes up for that with a big rain shower plus separate hand held spray. Sink area is well fitted and kept well stocked with toiletries. Only missing items in bathroom are hooks for towels and bath robes. Wardrobes are large with plenty of hangers and motion sensor lighting. 3 big drawers and plenty of bedside storage. Only missing aspect for her is lack of full length mirror or separate vanity area (although additional mirror in bathroom which can be brought out) . Big flat screen TV if you really want it but few English language channels. Bed is enormous and very comfortable with extra pillows provided on demand. Breakfast buffet is excellent and "full english" is the best I've ever had abroad in a hotel. Great idea for breakfast service to be from 7/8 am until noon, this spreads the morning rush well which is perhaps as well as there are not too many tables despite service inside or on patio. We didn't take evening meal and it may be lacking atmosphere with prices on high side. Pool area is nice and pool is single depth throughout. Two types of loungers and quite enough umbrellas for this time of year although I imagine they could be in demand in high summer. Towels on beds! Well actually the hotel put them there each morning but not sure if this stops early reservations. Staff do seem to go round and collect towels from empty beds during the day which may help. We had no problem with beds being uncomfortable as reported elsewhere. Buses to Palma are plentiful from across the road at Marine and with timetables available online. They do get busy though so expect to stand during busy times of day. I would recommend taxi transfer to airport as shared transfer bus does take individual bookings from a lot of hotels and 7am departure for a 10.30 flight resulted. Nice to have spent a week here and would look at other OD hotels as a result. More

3 night break

Booked a 3 night 4 day trip here. Emailed the hotel beforehand re bathrobes (these are supplied plus slippers) and tea and coffee facilities. Although these aren't provided in the double deluxe rooms the hotel kindly offered to provide kettle and mugs. Much appreciated. Our room was light spacious and very well equipped with everything one would need. Very contemporary which we like. We had a late flight home and we were given a room to shower and change for the evening. this room was at the back (maybe a standard) and although decorated in similar way it was much smaller, quite dark and overlooked the back road and supermarket. So pleased we had a deluxe room. The staff are all very professional courteous and their manner is second to none. The breakfasts all delicious and plenty of choice. The good thing is they are served until 12 so you can have late if you like and not bother with lunch. The reason I have not given it 5 stars is the restaurant. We wanted to book there for our last evening. I don't eat fish or meat but reception said as long as chef is given 24 hours notice he will provide probably a stir fry or vegetable paella which sounded lovely. We thus booked a table. When the waiter came to take our order we explained this so I didn't know what I was having until it arrived. So disappointed. A bowl of white rice with a smattering of pepper slices and a random broccoli spear. No sauce seasoning or taste whatsoever. I ate the few vegetables but couldn't eat the rice. It was so dry and bland. When they cleared the plates and asked for feedback I said which is the first time ever I have been negative about any meal. Apologised profusely said they would do better next time which of course there wouldn't be. When the bill came they had charged 15 euros. We said we were shocked and the waitress went to see the head waiter. They then crossed the price of my meal off. Maybe this should have been done at the beginning to save us the embarrassment of having to complain twice which we didn't enjoy doing. The staff dealt with this in their usual professional manner so courteous and apologetic and I just wish it had been so much better. As my husband said a chef of any standing shouldn't need notice anyway let alone 24 hours to prepare and cook any type of vegetarian dish. It was a shame our lovely holiday was marred slightly by not enjoying the restaurant as everything else is fantastic. The reason why I have dropped one star is because of theMore

Great place

A modern sophisticated hotel close to the fabulous marina and well located for travelling through the breathtaking South west coast. I look for two key things in a hotel , a good bed and a good shower, both at this hotel were top notch, a high quality mattress and great power shower. The staff , however are this hotels greatest asset, they are ultra professional, but also smiley and friendly. Breakfast is a pleasure and of a high standard. I would however agree with other reviewers that the restaurant area is soul less and as a result is not the natural choice for dinner that it could be. I would happily recommend this hotelMore

Excellent Staff, Very Nice Hotel

We had a five night stay here in September 2014, booked as a deal through Travel Zoo. The recently re-built/refurbished hotel is clean, stylish and comfortable. Our room was quite small, and didn't have a balcony or view, but it was booked as a deal so we didn't mind. Very comfortable bed. Air con control is limited to some extent but it was just about cold enough (bearing in mind we do like rooms pretty cold). We didn't eat an evening meal in the hotel, but only because there are some good restaurants in Portals and we prefer to go out. The breakfast was excellent with lots on offer from fruit and yoghurts to pastries to a 'full English', and served until 12 midday so you don't have to hurry. They could do with buying another coffee machine to cope with demand at busy times, but the coffee itself was great. The pool is pleasant and a nice temperature. It is near the road and you can hear (but not see) vehicles, but that didn't seem to spoil several days spent sitting around it. The staff here are the real stand-out point, cheerful, attentive, professional and friendly. Portals marina is a 5 minute walk and although it's a bit expensive in places it's a lovely place to spend evenings wishing your budget for motor cruisers was a bit, or indeed a lot, larger.More

Great hotel with excellent staff

This is definitely a top class hotel in terms of comfort and design. The staff are excellent - friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We were in a deluxe room and it was spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. The availability of a sea view while taking a shower was somewhat different! My suggestions for improvement would be:- 1) Provision of some facilities for guests with late flights home. We could not get a late checkout and there were no other facilities for washing/showering after checking out of the room. 2) A warmer evening 'atmosphere' in the restaurant. It would have encouraged me to eat there more as the food itself is excellent. One final point... watch the bar prices - I thought €26 for two gins & tonic was a bit steep!More
