Villa Marchena

in Pollensa , Majorca

A traditional country escape with modern comforts.
Charming inside and out, the Marchena has got all the right ingredients for a truly relaxing getaway. Situated in a relaxing area between bustling Puerto Pollensa and traditional Pollensa, it’s surrounded by gorgeous green countryside. So it’s just you, the scenery and lashings of tranquillity. And when you fancy re-joining civilisation, both towns are just a ten minute drive away and have shops, bars and restaurants. Plus there are plenty of beaches to choose from including Puerto Pollensa, Alcudia and Cala San Vicente.

Of course, if you simply want to spend your time unwinding, then Marchena is the perfect place to put your feet up. And where better than by the shell-shaped pool? Flanked by cushioned sun beds and terracotta plant pots, it takes pride of place outside the stone, farmhouse-style villa. You’ll also find a beautiful covered sun terrace with a dining table, which is wonderful for al fresco meals. And there’s a built-in barbeque area if you fancy throwing on some of the local fish or steaks for dinner.

Step inside and you’ll find a cosy-country ambience. We’re talking wood-beamed ceilings. Whitewashed walls. And traditional tiled flooring. The kitchen is light and airy with black and white tiled flooring. Plus it’s fully-equipped with all the mod cons like dishwasher and washing machine and there’s a dining table for when you fancy eating indoors. Next door is the lounge with an open fireplace and sofas as well as satellite television and a DVD player. There’s also a bathroom, double bedroom with en suite and a twin room on this level. Make your way upstairs and you’ll find a further double room, two twin rooms and a shower room. So what are you waiting for? Whether you’re a large family or group of friends, the Marchena is a great escape.

Your guide to Pollensa, Majorca

"Set between the hills of El Calvari and Puig de Pollensa, the historic town of Pollensa is an excellent base for exploring northern Majorca."

Pollensa is one of the most memorable places in Majorca. Partly, this is thanks to the spectacular landscape around it, where the land and sea meet at the end of the mighty mountain range. It is also, however, due to its architecture, festivals, culture and unmistakeable local atmosphere. At the centre of this charming town is the Plaza Major. With its cafés and restaurants, the square is the soul of the town, especially on Sunday mornings during the weekly market. Beyond it are narrow medieval streets, Baroque churches, Gothic chapels and even a Roman bridge. Climb the 365 stone steps to the chapel atop El Calvari and you’ll be rewarded with splendid views of the northernmost tip of the island. Survive the longer journey to the 18th century hermitage on top of Puig de Maria and you can stay the night. Take the short trip to the coast and the delights of the quiet, sheltered resort of Puerto Pollensa await.

Great holiday. When we got to the villa, whatever the name is, we were very, very disappointed. By the next day we had fallen in love with it. more on this review
