Aparthotel Alcudia Pins

Families have it covered at this beachside hotel, with its children’s splash park and choice of pools.

Water plays a big part at this hotel. It’s right by the sea, plus there are 2 pools, including a big, lake-style number. There’s a children’s splash park, too. On the dining front, there are 4 restaurants, including a tapas place.

This aparthotel is right on a golden-sand beach. The nearest bars and restaurants are less than a 5-minute walk away, and it’s about the same time in a taxi to C’an Picafort’s main drag.

Excellent family hotel but Pool too cold for young children

We've just returned from a weeks holiday at the Alcudia Pins and thoroughly enjoyed out holiday. Food was great. Entertainment was good, apartment was fine and service on the whole very friendly, very approachable and generalluy very very good. All round everything was as we expected, except, and I'm afraid its a big excepetion.........the pools are not heated, so in my opinion unsuitable for use by young children and toddlers (especially the baby pool and toddler pool which are almost always in the shade and therefore get no heat from the sun most of the day. I myself found the pool ok (but not for long) but chilly but there is no way I'd let my toddler in there, and my 9 year old (unlike many other kids there) refused to go in, instead we favoured the beach as the sea was warmer. I imagine in June/July/August the pool would be warmer, but in October i wouldn't return for a pool based holiday on this issue alone. With a heating system installed i would definetly be back!More

Suitable for families with young children

suitable for families with young children. It is part of a complex of hotels that is a bit distant from anywhere to be suitable for shoppers or people who like walking. Stayed there with a teenager and really had to taxi out most days to either Port Alcudia or Can Picafort. Seemed ok for young kids. The once during the afternoon when I fancied a Pint and the paper the indoor bar was closed and only seemed to be used by reps for children's activities. Beach bar open. Staff and local shops friendly and really helpful. Noticed all reviews talking about sea view. All inner apartments have a pool view which is also a sea view, prefered to a street view!!! My advice would be ask for a pool view should be ok. On the beach. Wifi is temperamental to say the least.More

Fab location, excellent kids reps, only let down was eating venues!

Spent Oct half term here 18th-25th 2014 ( just back today!) weather was excellent, hotel services and facilities very good. Thompson reps were all excellent, esp the kids club reps, after each Tots club session the staff always told the parents what the children had done and gave out certificates and stickers etc.... Last Thompsons hotel we went to didn't do this at all, just handed the kids back to us with no feedback or gifts. No bed bugs (unlike other reviews) however did buy a mosquito plug in and spray and we did get bitten! (Probably Due to nature reserve and waterways nearby). Hotel's location is right on the beach and it was very quiet and not too busy at all. All the various pools were in the shade for quite a while and the water was freezing! But once you were in, it was okay, esp if you did the aqua aerobics at 12.30 every day! Good for children as there was a good waterslide, water play pool and toddler pool, as well as a separate adult pool and baby pool and parents /loungearea with cots and heating facilities etc. Our Only real issue with the hotel was the lack of eating venues. The buffet food was as you would expect (a bit cold, lots of choice, just more or less the same every day! Also make sure you get the meat or fish as soon as it has been cooked) but the only other place to eat was the Tavern by the Sea, which at lunchtime offered only pizza or basic pasta to all inclusive guests ( there appeared to be another menu if you wanted to pay), you could get take away lunch snacks, but again you had to pay!! E.g a toaster sandwich and crisps! So unless you wished to pay, you usually end up back at the buffet, as there is more choice, as well as the pizza and pasta on offer at the Taverna. In the evenings we had to eat in the buffet (again) as the paying BBQ resturant had closed and the Green & Grill restaurant (meant to be part of the all inclusive deal) was also closed (so another lunch/evening venue closed). Once during your stay you may book and eat an evening meal at the Tarverna although sold as a Tapas bar, it was really more or less the same food as in the buffet but in smaller portions I.e potatoes, chorizo, and prawns in tomatoes or garlic sauce (tasty but not much choice), the kids menu at the Tavern was very basic e.g pizza, spaghetti or fish nuggets and all with chips! So our kids ate spaghetti and chips that evening! The beef tapa course was nice, esp the beef, but the cold jacket potatoe slices below and above it were disappointing. Also got very bitten that evening! We had a two room appartment, which was quiet (block G) near the buffet (which was useful as we spent a lot of time in there!!) but to be honest the whole hotel was quiet. Shower was really warm, which was great and beds were comfy, although pillows (as usual) were a little uncomfortable. Tv's in the lounge area with CBB's and other English channels, which is always useful. Early evening entertainment was basic and repetitive but it was for the kids really and they loved it (we didn't stay to watch the later entertainment as the kids entertainment didn't start until 8pm and finished at 9pm!) Drinks were, as usual way TOO strong! And not the real spirits! So I would suggest heading straight for the cocktail bar menu if it reads 100% it's free to all inclusive guests. Took us a few days to work this one out and a few experiments! All in all it was a great hotel and location (not in Alcudia, but out in a quieter area) just disappointed with food venues...as I may have mentioned?More

if you have babies - don't book here!

We booked to stay in this hotel through Thomson family resorts and stayed 9th September - 16th September 2014. We booked a 2 bed apartment for me, my husband, our 2 year old daughter & my mum. On arrival at the hotel and going into our apartment we found my daughters cot in the living room, we tried to put it in one of the rooms and it wouldn't fit through the door. So we put it into the other room which had sliding doors. We had to push the beds as far over as possible just to squeeze the cot in the room. There was no room around the cot & we had to climb over the bed to put our daughter into the cot. We had less than 30cm the otherside of our bed to get to the wardrobe - these rooms are not big enough to fit infants in cots in there. My reply from this complaint to Thomson was 'I hope you would agree that a size of a room is matter of personal opinion' - REALLY??? The next issue we had was the first night we were there we were woken up at 2am by our daughter screaming. When I looked over to her she was wedged in between the 'mattress' and the cot bars. On inspection of her 'mattress' we discovered it was in fact a sofa cushion (absolutely not joking) I was horrified! The next morning I spoke to the Thomson rep who was lovely & arranged a replacement mattress but unfortunately this mattress also didn't fit the cot correctly & we had to stuff pillows around the side of the mattress to close the gap. The sofa cushion mattress has really really played on my mind as if a tiny baby was staying and also got wedged down the side but facing the sofa cushion they could suffocate. It really worries me!!! Thomson family resorts should all have mothercare equipment - non of this was mothercare & the highchairs were the basic ikea ones (the white plastic ones) which to be fair were fine but as Thomson advertise that all child equipment is mothercare this is false advertising unfortunately. Finally on coming home my daughter came down with a really bad case of diarrhoea which when tested she had caught a parasite called Cryptosporidium and upon looking at the incubation period of this parasite looks as though she caught this on holiday. We have asked Thomson to let us know if anyone else has reported this but we genuinely believe it came from the pool in this hotel. If you have come back from this hotel & within 12 days have diarrhoea please go to your doctors to have a stool sample checked. If it wasnt for the above it was quite nice - food was ok and loved the beach right next to the hotel. I really wouldn't recommend this hotel! If you're looking for a lovely resort in majorca look at bonaire apartments in cala bona - we stayed there last year and absolutely loved it and it was perfect for infants. More
