Family Life Alcudia Pins

Families have it covered at this beachside hotel, with its children’s splash park and choice of pools.

Water plays a big part at this hotel. It’s right by the sea, plus there are two pools, including a big, lake-style number. There’s a children’s splash park, too. On the dining front, there are 4 restaurants, including a tapas place.

This aparthotel is right on a golden-sand beach. The nearest bars and restaurants are less than a five-minute walk away, and it’s about the same time in a taxi to C’an Picafort’s main drag.

Excellent for families!

Location The hotel is located in Playa de Muro, a couple of kilometers away from the center of Alcudia. In the direct vicinity there is not much going on, there are a few stores with souvenirs and some restaurants, plus some kids attractions like a pony ride and bumper cars. If you're after nightlife then you will have to venture out to Alcudia city center. It's around 60km from the Palma airport. We booked a transfer via the hotel reception, it cost 79 EUR which is slightly steep, but we wanted something reliable and a non-shared ride and we were not disappointed. The driver was waiting for us and got us to the hotel in just under an hour. Now that you have acknowledged that it's not a party area here comes the best part: the hotel is situated right on the beach front. It's so close we have even managed to walk barefoot to our room. Hotel The hotel consists of 9 4-storey buildings and almost 600 rooms. Blocks Cabrera, Ibiza and Mallorca are seafront, therefore in my opinion best. Block Cabrera is furthest away from the entertainment. There are 5 pools. The main pool has shallow ends for children. There is a separate adult pool for example for games with no shallow end. There are two baby pools - one with two slides and freezing cold water (!) and one jest 25 cm deep covered by shade ideal for infants. And there is a kids splash pool with slides. There is also one tall slide with a staircase. The pools are clean and have medium warm water (22-23 degrees), except the one mentioned baby pool. The hotel is overall clean, there is a lot of ground staff constantly working. You can tell that the overall exterior is slightly dated and not exactly modern, however rooms have been renovated (except the bathroom). There is a doctor available 24hrs/day at a fee. There is also a hospital only a few kilometers away in Muro, one of two on the whole island. Room We were in a renovated one bedroom apartment in block C (Ibiza) with a pool view and a side sea view. The room has been renovated recently. It consists of a main room with a double bed (which was two twin beds pushed together, fortunately with separate bedding). I would have wished to have a normal double bed. There is also a bedroom for kids which is separated by a sliding wall. The bedroom has an expandable sofa and a closet. I know there is also an option to have bunk beds. There is a kitchenette with an electric stove, microwave, kettle, toaster, sink, refrigerator, pots, pans and utensils. There is however no table that would serve as a proper eating area, jest a coffee table with two armchairs. There is a flat screen TV with some English channels. There is free Wi-Fi in the hotel, the signal in our room was ok, but not very strong. There is a nice huge balcony with 4 chairs, a table and a clothes line. There is a safe in the room which is free of charge. The decor in the room is modern and the room is bright. Food There are 2 buffet restaurants: the main restaurant and the Green & Grill (which you are supposed to attend alternately according to a schedule) and one a la carte restaurant The Tavern by the sea which is free once per week when you're all inclusive (we haven't tried it). Overall the food is very good and the selection is pretty big, enough to suit all tastes. It is repetitive but we didn't mind. The main buffet is larger and has a wider variety but the Green & Grill has much better meat. Even our picky toddlers were able to find something to eat, which is an achievement. There is a kids buffet in both locations though with a better selection in the main restaurant, there are also plenty of high chairs available. There is ice cream available in both locations plus you can pick up ice cream in to-go portions at the Green&Grill during the day. The kids loved this. There is also a chocolate fountain where you can dip for example marshmallows :) Pay attention to the opening and closing times, they are very punctual about closing time. Beach The beach is actually the number one reason why we chose Alcudia/Muro. It's an endless wide strip of fine white sand. The water is turquoise and very clean. There is hardly any seaweed and you can spot lots of cute fish. It is very shallow therefore super safe for kids. 100 meters from the shore you are still standing! No water shoes are required. It's a public beach and sun loungers have to be rented. The hotel provides free beach towels (exchange for fresh ones costs 1Euro). The beach is literally at the doorstep of the hotel. The beach was the high point of our stay – during the whole week we used the pool only once (!) for maybe half an hour. We deliberately chose Alcudia just for the awesome beach. Entertainment We didn’t care much about the evening entertainment, that’s not a factor for us while on holiday, so I cannot comment on that. However, the children’s entertainment was fantastic. Our kids adored Thomson the dog and his show, there is also a dancing show for older kids. We haven’t used the kids clubs, but they seemed highly popular. There is also an indoor soft play area open during most of the day for children under 3 (you must supervise your kids on your own as it’s unattended). By the way, when you exit the hotel and go left on the main road in about 5 minutes you will get to a public park with very nice kids playgrounds for all ages, football/basketball fields and tennis courts. Overall we have had a wonderful holiday. It’s not a four star hotel, but the prices are reasonable and we didn’t feel that anything was missing. If you are looking for a peaceful romantic destination then this is not the hotel for you. If you have kids, especially under 12, then I would definitely recommend Alcudia Pins.More

great holiday

took my 2 children aged 7 and 12,my first time in a 'all inclusive' overall i couldnt fault the food,ok some days were the same, but plenty of choice, when we arrived you get a timetable of where to eat on what days, ,,to be honest,we just ate whenever and where we wanted and didnt get any problems, pool areas are very clean and yes, sunbeds are packed together, but there is a lot of people to cater for,i went to the beach most days..sea was warmer than the pool!,, bus times to alcudia and can picafort are good, we walked along the beach to can picafort one day when it was cloudy,,took 30 mins, ENTERTAINMENT.,,my daughter loved the the shows, and the staff worked really hard, dont expect broadway!.ROOMS, very clean and functional, having a fridge and kettle is a big plus (took my cafitere,,,nice cup of coffee on the balcony!) STAFF. all very helpful and friendly..on our last night my son sufferd from an ear infection, if he had told me during the day we could have seen the resdident doctor!,,(100e after hours!!), but this was 1am and he was in pain, the 2 guys on reception were brilliant, they got me a taxi to alcudia where there is a 24hr pharmacy, cost me 25e return and 3e for some drops..even the taxi guy helped me at the pharmacy! TIPS,,,dont buy any inflatables on the first day..check underneath the thompson desk ..guests leave everything there,lilos,parasols,suncreams.shampoos. goggles etc,, we got a huge boat!! which i gave to a german family on our last day. you dont need to take ANY towels, i would visit the same time tho 1st wk in sept (kids missed 2 days of school, but saved £300 plus i think the hotel would be at busting point peak weeks!lol) WEATHER, we had a mixed bag..sunny, i night of 'monsoon propotions',,but it was never cold, we all had a lovely natural colour ,hardly needed the suncream. we all like hot sunshine but on reflection it was good for the kids.More

Still remember this great holiday!

I visited this hotel a few years ago with my family and it was one of the loveliest places I've ever been. The rooms were lovely, well kept and homely with a very relaxed atmosphere in a gorgeous area. The hotel grounds themselves were great, with a big pool and great little shops and bars nearby, or on the grounds themselves. The staff were immensely helpful and incredibly polite, and the entire two weeks we were here we didn't have a single issue with anything. Everything was reasonably priced as well, so it certainly won't break the bank. Great Hotel in a lovely area for families. Would love to come back here again sometime.More

Amazing hotel but shame can't say the same for tour operator

Would say this deserves 5* perfect for families. We all did really love the hotel and the staff. Pity Thomson showed a lack of customer care. The hotel itself was brilliant until the last day our holiday was ruined by Thomson. Unfortunately this is a Thomson resort so will not be going back as will never travel with Thomson again. we loved the hotel, the food and all the staff. The Children’s entertainer Johnny Rocks was brilliant with the children. The Entertainment carried out by the Thomson Reps was far more entertaining than the entertainment brought in. The Hotel Staff were incredible; they couldn’t do enough for you. Elaina in the Green and Grill was brilliant with the children our 2 year old adored her. I would recommend this hotel to our friends and family if it wasn't a Thomson hotel. The reason our holiday was ruined was 2 days before we were due to come home we were advised by a slip through our door in the evening that we were no longer being picked up at approx 14:00 but 06:50 and to attend a meeting the following day at 16:30 to find out more information. I went straight to the Thomson helpdesk to find out if this was a mistake, and to find out why we were being collected 10 hours prior to our flight. We were advised there was a road closure and there was nothing else they could do apart from take us to another hotel, where we would be met by a rep and given more information and to arrange for us to have all Inclusive at the hotel which is what we had paid for at our hotel. We were also advised this happens the same weekend every year, twice a year for an Iron Man Event, which is an event run by Thomas Cook all over Europe so not just a local event.. So I feel very mislead for paying the extra £242 for convenient flight times. As advised above we were promised a Thomson representative would be at the Belvedere 3* Hotel once we arrived. However we arrived at 08:45 after a 2 hour coach trip and didn’t see a Thomson representative at the hotel until 11:05. When we arrived at the hotel the hotel manager greeted us with Green bands and advised this was for Lunch only, so we were unable to get drinks for the children unless we paid for them. I was so distraught as we had saved so hard for our first family holiday abroad with the children and didn’t take much spending money as being All Inclusive. So if you do book this hotel with Thomson just check if you are travelling on a Saturday around 26th September as could cause many issues.i must say though the Thomson reps working at the hotel were amazing, it was just the lack of answers and the aftercare once I raised a complaint. The reps at the hotel have had to deal with this event previously so were sympathetic, there were also over 70 staff at the airport trying to help us all, however when raising a complaint to customercare they said they do not get advised on local events, the iron man is not a local event it is a European event and if just a local event they managed to round up a lot staff at last minute. Shame as would have loved to return and bring back our friends and family.More
