Hotel Santa Lucia

This beachside hotel comes with great views, a sociable buffet restaurant and a cocktail bar.

The hotel slices the coast between the beaches of Son Matias and Palma Nova, so there’s sand outside and sea views from every room. It’s 5 minutes’ walk from the centre of town, and less than 15 to Magaluf.

The good-sized pool looks out over the sandy beach, and it’s circled by thatched parasols. Food-wise, the buffet restaurant serves some great fish dishes, while a pair of bars covers cocktails and entertainment.

Great hotel with a few negatives

Friendly staff, very clean and in a great position. We stayed all inclusive in a superior room (708, right at one end of the hotel facing the Palma Nova beach) which was very clean and serviced everyday by friendly staff. The room had a hairdryer, fridge and LCD TV with English and Spanish channels. The food was plentiful and varied. The 'waitresses' were very efficient removing your plate but we did not feel pressurised to finish our meals. There did seem to be 'peak times' when it would seem that a lot of the other the guests wanted to eat but we then varied our times and had no problems in finding a table. The all inclusive bar in the evening did seem a bit small - down one end in the main bar - the staff were quite busy and a bit abrupt at times. During the afternoons the all inclusive area bar was outside around the corner from the pool where ice cream cones (cornetto style) were available but it was not until we saw another guest with one that we realised we could get them. The pool area generally was very pleasant and the upstairs sun terraces had plenty of sun beds - those around the pool and on the terrace that had permanent parasols were taken at the crack of dawn - we went down at 8.15 one day and all were gone with towels and other possessions left for a good hour or more while people had breakfast. However we got round this by buying a parasol from a local shop - about £6 The outdoor pool was warm(ish), at least I could walk straight in which is unusual for me, but the indoor pool was COLD, 'bracing' was a word I heard it described as..... As others have said the wooden decking in the indoor pool area was not in good repair, and was a bit slippery when wet and is an accident waiting to happen, especially for an older person. The entertainment was a bit hit and miss - a quiz, then bingo then the live entertainment which did not appeal to us. The quiz was a bit a fun but the staff tended to shout even tho they had a mic so did not always understand what they said. The shop in reception is run by an English lady selling English goods - sweets, medicinal items and English papers. The negatives: 1) the lifts were dire - one was out of order for 2 days - with long waits at meal times. I walked down some days but if you are of limited mobility you don't get that choice. 2) the free wi-fi was awful. It worked after a fashion and was very slow and signal kept disappearing, email and sites like Facebook didn't work. I gave up one day and purchased the premium service which was a reasonable speed. However I feel that a 4 star hotel should provide wi-fi at a reasonable speed hotel wide for free - the digital age is here to stay and I saw many people older than myself on their tablets or mobiles. 3) not exactly a negative but almost all (98%) of the other guests were older than us - my husband remarked that we were 10 years too early - we are 59 so make what you will of that!!More

Enjoyable Holiday Yet Again

We arrived at the Santa Lucia at 11.30am in the morning after a short flight and coach transfer from Bournemouth. I half expected that due to our early arrival our room would not be ready for us and sure enough it was not, but the receptionist told us that it would be ready in about 20 mins so we put our cases in the secure lock up and went across to the Bar Orion for a welcome snack and drink. Yes we have been to this hotel before. On returning after about 1/2 an hour we were told our room was ready. We had a standard room on the 4th floor over looking the pool great as for most of the day the balcony is in full sun not that we are in the room ( we always email ahead to ask for this side of the hotel ) The room size is adequate for 2 people with plenty of cupboard space for hanging clothes and storing smaller items. The room has a safe and fridge you can hire the fridge costs about 22 Euros a week The room maids are really friendly and keep both the rooms and interior of the hotel really clean and tidy. The hotel during the off season has been upgrading floor levels 8/7 and 6 (more levels to follows this winter ) to make them into superior rooms which at the time of writing is an extra £112.00 per couple through thomson when booking. I was given the opportunity to look at one and yes they look nice with freshly decorated walls and new fitments with tea and coffee making and fridge free to use but the storage space I noted seemed some what reduced. You still have to pay for the safe. We always go half board at the Santa with both meals being buffet style, you will not go hungry with a good choice of food on offer As for AI I cannot comment other than it seems you are constantly stuck around the hotel waiting for your next meal and drink and no its not free you have paid over £400 per couple for that. Use the locals for meals and drinks midday I reckon about 30 Euros for 2 people Don't pay for wifi in the hotel most bars have free access (Bar Orion across from hotel has it ) Typical prices while on holiday here Pint of beer 2.00 euros Bottle of water at dinner in hotel 1.90 euros Bus to Palma 3.15 Euros each Bus to Marine land 1.50 euros each Sminoff vodka and fanta 4.50 euros Toasted sandwich 2 to 3 euros I think a lot of negative comments about this hotel are really petty you get minor problems with all hotels. Come here and enjoy the fantastic sea views the hotel has to offer and get out and see the real MallorcaMore

Santa lucia

This hotel is an excellent hotel, we read most of the reviews before we left and I have to agree with most of them. We stayed here half board for 1 week , the hotel is spotless , the staff are very friendly and helpful, food is great , a great selection . The Rooms are good and every room has a sea view which is a bonus. The only down side is the fact that you can't get near the pool unless you queue at a ridiculous time in the morning, but that didn't bother us as you are right next to the beach where we spent most of the day. The location is ideal near to all the Bars and restaurants but just far enough away to enjoy some peace and quiet. I will be staying here again and would have no reservation about recommending it to anyone.More

My wife and I have been coming here 4 years now and never had a poolside room from the start, even emailing the 2weeks before didn't work, they did move us halfway through our holiday every year, anyway we came to realise that the hotel has started to get GREEDY , they spent money on a new reception but still haven't mended the decking in the indoor pool area after 4 year's, they will corse you injury if you don't look were you are walking, another example is the free WI FI, you can now only log on once per day for 30 min, if you only use 2 min and try to log on again you can't, thats it for the day.or you could PURCHASE the premium WI FI, if you're half board they give you tea coffee fruit juice water milk even cava for bucks fizz in the morning but evening meal you get nothing to drink, if you stay for 2 weeks and you have 2 small bottles of water then it will cost you £54.80, see what im getting at, add to that poor air con(we had to drag the beds under the air con) and a shower head that just drops down and wets the wall you can see wy i say they are getting GREEDY. I could go on but I think you get the picture, that aside it has a great location and thats what people come for. For us though we will go elsewhere next year.More
