Illetas is a world away from the neighbouring resorts of Magaluf and Palma Nova. It prides itself on understatement, and is an oasis of green in the high rise jungle that makes up much of the south coast. Life here revolves around the quiet pleasures of walking, swimming and relaxing in the sun that bathes Majorca for much of the year. At Illetas you will be well-placed to take of advantage of the island's golfing heritage with several top-quality courses within easy driving range.
Illetas is also a good point from which to explore parts of Majorca that many tourists miss. It is tempting to stay on the beach at your resort. However, with a car you can take a breathtaking journey up and around the north western coast where the Mediterranean juxtaposes the mountainous terrain to create some spectacular scenery. If you don't want to hire a car, a walk along the seafront will throw up some inviting coves for a secluded swim. There are also plenty of buses to the nearby capital, Palma de Majorca, where you can enjoy all that this cosmopolitan city has to offer.

The sandy beach at Illetas is small and can often get busy at the height of summer, although the hotels often have their own private beaches where you can enjoy the sun in privacy. The water here is fantastically clear and beautifully warm making swimming more akin to taking a gigantic bath. The rugged shore also makes for good snorkelling territory with plenty of sea life to be discovered.
There are few restaurants here, although there are a couple that overlook the sea and give you a stunning backdrop to your meal. Most food is provided by your hotel. Again, Palma is the place to go for a slap-up meal, especially if you manage to get a seat on the harbour where you can watch the yachts drift by.
There are some bars in Illetas although most of the evening entertainment is provided by the hotels. A walk along the rugged seafront as the sun goes down is a great way to start the night. For a night of noise and lights head to Magaluf down the coast or, for a more sophisticated crowd, Palma.
There aren't many shops in the resort with the emphasis on tranquillity leaving little time for consumerism, but there are enough to keep you in the essentials. And if you can't live without designer labels and chic boutiques, Palma is only a short drive away.
The whole coastline up to Cap de Formentor is breathtaking and should be explored. Palma's huge, beautiful cathedral is a masterpiece of engineering and the city's old town is a charming patchwork of narrow streets and hidden plazas. To sample some truly tourist towns head to Magaluf or Palma Nova
