Protur Playa Cala Millor

This hotel was refurbished in 2014. This beachside hotel now comes with a sleek lounge area and Zen-like bedrooms.

A pretty promenade is all that separates this newly refurbished hotel from a sandy beach. It’s not far from the town centre, either – you can walk there in less than 10 minutes.

Bedrooms here have all been given a makeover, with sand and stone colour schemes and sleek wooden floors. Outside, there’s a smart new pool that overlooks the Mediterranean Sea.

Brilliant chilled out week!

Me and my partner have recently got back from a weeks stay here. We booked with Thomson and had third party flights with Monarch. On arrival we were pleased with the location and the look of the hotel. We went to check in with a staff member called Tommy (I think his name was). For some reason he seemed a little distant when checking us in and then all of a sudden decided to pass us onto another staff member to continue with the checking in process. His name was Jaime and was far more pleasant and polite. We then received a free welcome drink which you could choose from either orange juice or cava. A very nice touch. We went to our room which was on the first floor. We had booked a limited sea view room. When we entered the room and looked out, we were a little disappointed to say the least. We were over looking the road outside the hotel and could see bins and a tiny bit of sea view through some trees. Not what we wanted at all. We went back down to reception and discussed this with Jaime who happily moved us to another room on the next day. This was on the 4th floor and wow, what a difference. We had a fantastic view of the pool and beach/sea. It was amazing really. Such a nice thing of Jaime to do also. The room was lovely. Nice decor, great wet room and the bed was comfy. Sitting on the balcony and admiring the view is what I found myself doing many a time :) What made a change also was the fact you get a kettle in your room with tea and coffee. You also get a litre bottle of water put in your room each day. Complimentary of course. A really nice touch. You get a touch pad in the room which channels all the lights. Loved this :) the TV has British channels too which is great. You don't often find that abroad. The hotel itself is very modern. Great comfy seating in the elephant chill out area and in the lounge indoors. Hammocks are outside and there is also a jacuzzi. Pool area is great. The beds in the pool are good for cooling down on as well :) one thing I must mention about the pool is to be careful when entering on the steps. These can be quite slippy. Whilst I was here I noticed a few people slip and nearly hurt themselves and one lady actually did. She landed right on her back. Thankfully she was ok. The hotel is mainly of an older age range and I found it was the more mature person who were slipping easily. So it's something to be aware of. I have to mention the staff here are brilliant. They all constantly have smiles on their faces and are so polite and friendly. Maria the manager is out and about quite often and she always greats you with a smile and an olá :) the cleaners are the same. Which in many hotels I have stayed in, the cleaners arnt always pleasant. The bar/pool staff work such long hours yet seem to keep smiling. Special mention to Manu and Diana who were always chatty and always had a smile on their faces :) The restaurant here is very good. You get allocated a seat and you get to pick whether you would prefare dinner early or at a later time. We opted for the earlier time of 6:15. The food is varied and has a good choice. I always raided the dessert counter! On gala night they also have a BBQ on and sushi which is a nice added extra. Breakfast here was brilliant also. We ate at the pool bar which was yummy! Burger and chips for €6.50. Food and drink here is pretty cheap for a hotel. Unlike any other I've stayed in. We ate at a bar abit down the front and we paid more there for a cocktail and drink. Cocktails at the hotel are around €5 and fishbowls are €12/13. We also ate in the à la carte restaurant one night which you get complimentary in your stay. Just for one visit. This wasn't great to be honest. My partners chicken dish was basically raw. Not good at all! We much prefared the buffet style dinner. Now the pool scenario. I have seen many reviews written about this and was actually looking forward to seeing this 'que' everyone has mention. I am afraid to say this is correct and it is laughable to witness. The que went all the way from the pool doors, right up to the reception. Which is quite a fair way. It's just silly to be honest. I will upload a picture on here so you can actually see. We went out at various times and managed to get a bed anyway so no need to que! There are plenty of sunbeds, beds which are really comfy and beds which are on the decking part. They are the beds which catch the sun all day. Tickets are left if you put your towel down and don't attend after 90mins. We went for dinner right near the pool and we must have been gone an hour. We arrived back to a ticket on our bed so be warned when nipping for some food! Entertainment here is lacking a little to be fair. I've read many reviews about Dolly and the Gambler and I expected them to be brilliant. They are a singing duo which I would expect to hear anywhere really. It's pretty basic and they arnt the best act I've heard. I thought it would be good to have more local Spanish acts maybe. Reuse the entertainment manager does to a lot of things in the day like bike rides, aqua aerobics etc which is good. The entertainment at night just needs re-looking at. They did hold a gala night here though and we received free cocktails. All the guests do. We managed to get two each and a non alcoholic one :) the manager Maria does a speech and introduced all the staff and thanks them. She also states how we are all a family and includes the guests in this. I thought it was a really nice touch and guests and staff, all raised a glass and made a toast. Was lovely really. Thought it was a very nice touch. We took a trip to Cala bona on foot one day which took about 45mins. The views are great as you walk there by the area itself could do with a tidy up. We wanted to go for lunch but found nowhere suitable really. There is a harbour also if you are into boats. We also rode down here one day on one of the electric scooters you can hire from one of the local stores. These cost €20 an hour and do go quite fast. They were pretty fun! Would recommend hiring one! :) there is also a strip nearby where there are lots of bars, places to eat and little shops. You will find there is a Spar shop nearly everywhere you go! Great for any snacks, gifts etc. All in all we had a great week chilling out here and would recommend it to anyone. We are in our 20's and found the ages of people here were pretty varied. There was mainly more mature people but we did see quote a few couples in their 20's and younger so it really does suit all ages. It was a very hot week when we stayed so make sure to pack enough sun cream! :) don't hesitate to book! Would certainly visit again. :) More

Very pleasant hotel

The positives.. This is a really nice hotel, the staff are just great. The standard of cleanness is spot on. The room we stooped in wasn't the biggest but the refurbishment is a good standard and very tastefully modern. The bar is good and we didn't find the prices that much higher than the local bars. The food being buffet style varied from good to excellent and the chefs couldn't have been more helpful. The location more a less on the beach is perfect. The negatives... The beach area, like most European resorts have the menacing Africans "selling" sunglasses and similar tat, we did witness one being arrested but that was the last police officer we saw. This is a resort issue not the hotels fault but needs to be noted. The sunbeds.....I cant agree with some comments about people not minding joining a queue at 07.45 to get a bed around the pool. The hotel just doesn't have enough sunbeds. We refuse to engage in the Teutonic procedure and maintained a stiff upper lip and ended up with the two single beds separated by 3 other couples of just giving up and going down to the beach and spending 13 euro's for a couple of beds & brolly. To conclude this is a nice hotel and worthy of its 4* rating. Pay the extra for a sea view.More

Relaxing holiday in a lovely hotel

Room immaculate and spacious with modern decor and glass fronted balcony allowing a fabulous view. TV with several English channels. Bathroom with walk in shower. Bottled water provided daily. Food was excellent and the staff always pleasant and polite. The sunbed situation was amusing as it was necessary to be early if you needed some shade. Evening entertainment was ok, could have been a bit more varied. Overall a lovely holiday.More

Chillaxed !!

Just returned from a relaxing week at this hotel. Exceptional VFM and worthy of the comments that have gone before. Rooms clean and spacious and supplied with fresh bottled water on a daily basis which i thought was a nice touch.Wet room with double walk in shower provided - classy. Panoramic sea view was to die for. Restaurant provided a wide array of hot and cold fayre - something for everybody's taste. Easy to over indulge, but hey, we were on holiday !! Special thanks to Steffania and Lupe who attended our needs. Much has been said about the race for sunbeds early in the morning. Didn't find this a particular problem and joining the queue at 7.45, we were always able to pick a spot we wanted. Very orderly and a lot better system than other hotels I've visited. Poolside was idyllic - plenty of choice re sunbed / cabanas / beanbags. Bar serving tasty bites most of the day. Warning - generous portions ! We found one meal was enough to share for 2 !! Evening entertainment could have been a little more varied perhaps. Primarily consisted of resident duo, Dolly and The Gambler who were ok, but perhaps a magician or traditional flamenco may have broken things up for the week. The entertainments team headed by Reiss made sterling efforts to get everybody involved and the Pop Quiz evening especially was well attended and went down well i thought. All in all a most enjoyable experience.More
