Protur Playa Cala Millor

This adults-only hotel was refurbished in 2014. This beachside hotel now comes with a sleek lounge area and Zen-like bedrooms.

A pretty promenade is all that separates this newly refurbished hotel from a sandy beach. It’s not far from the town centre, either – you can walk there in less than 10 minutes.

Bedrooms here have all been given a makeover, with sand and stone colour schemes and sleek wooden floors. Outside, there’s a smart new pool that overlooks the Mediterranean Sea.

Second visit and just as good

I stayed in room 824 this year and 826 last year. Both rooms beautiful with private Jacuzzi, sunbed and lovely views of the beach. I would give this hotel 5 stars for its décor, facilities, food, location and most of all its staff. They are all so friendly, work so hard, dressed very smart and very professional in their work. I just wish the English folk would tip where its deserved and it certainly is. This hotel is extremely good value for the prices Thomson charge. I could go on and on and on about this beautiful hotel, but just read the previous reviews. However, one thing which blew me away was on arrival I was sitting on the balcony with a cup of tea, and the cleaner arrived ( lovely woman) and presented me with a bottle of bubbly and 2 champagne glasses, and a message thank you for returning. How beautiful is that and I will return in the future. Thank you Protur Playa and Thompson. Philomena and Tony.More

The hotel was hot......the weather sadly not!

The Playa is a truly excellent hotel superbly situated right at the end of Cala Millor almost into Sa Coma, and near the start of the pedestrianised strip and the Tourist Information office. The hotel is literally on the beach. The weather was not the best during our stay, so we spent more time in the hotel and using it's facilities than we would have normally done. We had a room right at the front on the 6th floor so the view across the bay was pretty wonderful. The room was modern, clean and well appointed, with UK tv ( inc Sky) channels easily found ( not always the case) very comfortable queen size bed, plenty of wardrobe space, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryer. The insured safety deposit box costs 2 euro per day.The shower room was clean, spacious and modern with an excellent walk in show, double sink and and up close mirror, good quality towels too, no sandpaper strips here!. toiletries, water and tea and coffee are replaced daily which was good. We also liked the easy entry door key cards and the press pad lighting system, which we had not seen before. The outside s[pace is again modern, well maintained and rather chic, the simple square pool has sunbeds built into it and plenty of space and sunbeds to use including doubles. The lovely elephant chill area has comfy floor duvets and hammocks too. The 6th floor has a very stylish , and warm infinity pool which plenty of beds and lounging areas. There is also a sunbed area on the first floor which is quite secluded. Pool towels are available for a refundable deposit. There are also areas for outdoor dining and drinks, which are also clean, bright and modern. The service was excellent, prices were reasonable and the quality and presentation of the simplest snacks was very good. With the weather being rather cool and cloudy a lot of the time, we were grateful to use the indoor pool area which was lovely and warm, the contoured sunbeds were very comfortable and the pool and whirlpool were excellent ( there is also a whirlpool outside. I also used the gym and sauna, which I may not have done in better weather. The communal and bar areas are again smart and comfortable with plenty of room for everyone, and we were usually lucky in getting our favourite chairs. There is also a book and magazine exchange area which we used...and checked daily. The hotel has two restaurants, one self service and one a la carte which guests have access to once a week. The a la carte was good, attentive service and good food in nice surroundings. Our own preference was the self service restaurant. We had the same allocated table each evening for dinner, where we had an earlier or late sitting option. We went for the later (8.15) time. The food at breakfast and dinner was super, great quality and beautifully presented. No canteen troughs of hot foot, rather they provided tureens with much smaller quantities in, which meant they were changed very regularly. Several meats and fish varieties were available to order along with a paella ( or similar) curry or stir fry and raw vegetables too. The dining room like every where in the hotel is clean, modern and sleek. I'm always a little wary of "Gala Dinners", which can often mean a few flags dotted around and a pile of prawns....not at the Playa. The evening began with the manager's cocktail party with complimentary drinks and canapes and a few words from the boss ( who was very visible all week I must say, usually a sign of a good hotel I think) followed by an great array of choice in the restaurant and a bbq area outside cooking stak, chops and sausages etc and tables laden with local produce, serrano ham, smoked salmon, tempting desserts etc. The hotel made an effort to impress...and it worked. Wines start at 9 euro a bottle by the way for perfectly drinkable red or white. Mealtimes at hotels are not always times to look forward too, but here they are. The hotel is for 16+ adults only, and the activities reflected that, daytime wine tasting, stretch exercise, tapas making etc along with local walks, including one to Son Servera market, which was nice and a bike ride. Entertainer / Organiser Nacho was an entertaining and informative host throughout. Evenings consisted of outside musical entertainers, from chilled pop to jazz via soft rock, reggae and a saxophonist . Over 7 nights we liked some more than others, but whatever our own taste, I have to stay that the standard of singing and musicianship was far better than hotels usually hire in. Entertainment lasted from 9.15 to 11pm. Drinks are waiter / waitress served, as they are throughout the day .The hotel has it's own car and bike hire service. Reception staff are efficient and friendly as are staff throughout the hotel. Everyone seems happy, eager to assist and enthusiastic which again you don't find everywhere. We had a small maintenance problem in our room, which I reported at reception...the maintenance guy was there almost before I had finished explaining the problem. He came with me to our room and sorted things within a couple of minutes. I have thought about negative aspects of negative aspects, and can only think of a couple; At various times of the day, especially mealtimes and during arrivals, the 2 lifts become very busy and there can be a wait of a few minutes, one or even two more lifts would help solve this problem, but I have no idea where they could be put. The green painted wooden handrails along the bedroom corridors and becoming a little tatty, it may have been better to spent a little more for a plastic rail, everywhere else is good/top quality. And that's all I can think of really We have stayed at many holiday hotels, and the Cala Millor Playa is up there with the best...We are looking forward to trying other Protur hotels and will return to this one. Our stay was fabulous, with decent weather it would be sensational. Thanks for a great time.More

Still the best hotel!

We arrived home yesterday after our third stay in this wonderful hotel, and this morning booked another holiday for next year. Think that says it all! Can't add anything to previous reviews except to say the evening entertainment is now in the hands of the hotel and not Thomson's. A different act every night, now worth staying in to watch. We were lucky enough to book one of the five whirlpool rooms on the top floor; absolutely lovely but the spiral staircase was very scary, particularly coming down in the wind! One minor disappointment was the early breakfast before leaving. For a hotel that serves the most amazing food and where the service is second to none, we would have expected more than the sliced bread, cheese and ham and sachets of strawberry jam. Not even any cereals or dried fruit. Despite that, this is a wonderful hotel and we look forward to our return next year.More

Holiday 23rd to 30th April 2016

The Hotel Protur Playa Cala Millor, Where do I start, This is our second stay at this Hotel and having only just returned I must say that the standards are as high now as they were in March 2015, the Hotel is very well managed, the customer service from every department is excellent, Both breakfast and Evening meals are once again excellent with a good selection of dishes to suit everyone, the Evening entertainment has been much improved, Bedrooms are kept spotlessly clean. Can I fault this hotel, Yes, OK the lifts are a little slow but what the heck.More
