Hotel Rocador

The Hotel Rocador has a beach on its doorstep and easy access to Cala d'Or's restaurants and nightlife.

This place has an exclusive location, overlooking the pretty cove of Cala Gran. It’s fronted by a curve of golden sand, and it is less than a 5-minute walk from Cala d’Or’s cosmopolitan town centre.

The hotel has just been made over, so you’ll walk in to box-fresh interiors. Everything has a minimalist feel. Rooms, for instance, feature stark white walls and furniture, offset by colourful, arty murals.

OK for a week

We booked this hotel at very short notice, so were pleased we could book anywhere, to be honest. But a review has to be objective, and not be a reflection on the fact that we would have slept in a tent, if we had to. The Hotel is an attractive place, although first impressions of the lobby as you enter is rather small and "functional". As time went on, that aspect actually grew on me, and I began to enjoy the fact it wasnt some sprawling open space where you could lose yourself. 'Check in' was fast and efficient. The trip down the narrow windy corridors to the room wasnt an ENTIRELY positive feeling, but when we got to our ground floor room, we were pleasantly surprised with the room and small terrace through the french window. There is NO storage space in this room !! no drawers, just a wardrobe with one side available for hanging stuff, and a couple of shelves. Nowhere to put the cases out of the way, so they were utilized as storage for dirty laundry. Two weeks here? I dont think so ! You have to pay 15 euro for the safe ! The bathroom was functional, although the shower would only provide us with cold water for a day or two until we complained. The patio area was small, had one plastic couch and a glass table, not a great deal of privacy, and no shade protection. Luckily however there were trees around so we got our shade from those. The doors to the patio have a single push latch on the inside ( like a bathroom latch ), so you cannot leave the room through those doors ... even if you CAN walk from your patio to the pool or chill area, you can't because you cannot lock your patio door from the outside. The food, dining halls and bars are excellent in this hotel... cannot fault them, and the staff are wonderful... kind, considerate and friendly. Drinks are VERY competitively priced and we didnt run up a huge bill even though we didnt "skimp" on the drinks we ordered The biggest problem, bearing in mind that the beach is so small ( and in summer is "wall to wall" flesh .... so for us was definitely "out of bounds") is the lack of space for sun bathing ... I hate to sit around a pool on loungers lined up next to other people. I also love shade, so dont want to share one parasol with 4 beds ... 2 of which will be filled by people you dont know. The pool was simply row upon row of loungers on one side of the pool, and you had no ability to find a little privacy, or indeed shade once the sun moves around. The "Chill area" was more preferable, with a lot more space, but was the opposite of the pool .. vast spaces of grass, and only a few loungers, all of which were taken at about 04:30 in the morning !! Other areas exist for sun bathing, but are crammed in too close for my liking. This to me was the biggest problem with the hotel .. a lack of ability to find the right sort of area for your own personal type of "lazing around". Cala D'or is a lovely town. Quiet despite being relatively full of tourists, with no hint or rowdiness, and a really pleasant feel to the place, especially in the main area which at night is a really fun place to stroll around. So .. in conclusion, I would recommend this hotel if you love just lying on a lounger soaking up the sun for a week ( the weather in August was glorious ) but has drawbacks in terms of room storage and the ability to find a bit of space to relax in ( unless you dont mind the presence of other people close to you).More

Back next year.

First and foremost the staff. Whilst some may have less of a personality or some may not speak English nothing detracts from the all round professionalism of everyone. No-one could be singled out for special praise; each and all were special. All were extremely polite and cheerful and would help in any way possible. This was truly a team effort to make everyone's holiday a success. The general buffet was excellent but I would recommend everyone try the a-la-carte and tapas on offer one day a week because it was a magnificent experience. The pool area was spotless and new sunbeds were really comfortable which gave the whole area a superior feel. The chill out area was just that, a place to relax with very few sunbeds set in a nice garden. Lunch and drinks, unlike some hotels, are competitively priced. Was there a downside to the holiday? Perhaps one; more air conditioning in the main restaurant please. I cannot wait for my wife to be allocated her holiday time next year. Rocador, here we come (again)!!!!!More

Only for those that travel light

All the reviews I have read are very positive which I agree with mainly but no one has really touched on the rooms. I know hotel rooms are supposed to be somewhere you just lay your head but this rooms lack of storage was awful, I can forgive no actual draws but there was just two very small shelves which meant swim/underwear, shorts vest tops and everything else that could not be hung up was crammed in and had to be pulled out every time you needed something. Someone suggested using your suitcase but we only took one and that is where I personally put my dirty clothes. On the whole it looked like the room had no added draws to keep costs back. The balcony has a PVC (hot) unmovable seat that just looked cheap and was not usable when the sun was on the balcony. The bathroom had a lovely shower but the toilet was squeezed into a corner next to the basin which meant no normal size adult could sit facing the front so it had to be sat on semi-sideways. They should have fitted a smaller wash basin, but it looked like they had brought the larger size and stuck with them even though there was not enough room.More
