Hotel Rocador

The Hotel Rocador has a beach on its doorstep and easy access to Cala d'Or's restaurants and nightlife.

This place has an exclusive location, overlooking the pretty cove of Cala Gran. It’s fronted by a curve of golden sand, and it is less than a 5-minute walk from Cala d’Or’s cosmopolitan town centre.

The hotel has just been made over, so you’ll walk in to box-fresh interiors. Everything has a minimalist feel. Rooms, for instance, feature stark white walls and furniture, offset by colourful, arty murals.

Worth a visit shame about the air con

Just returned from 2 weeks at the Rocador. Lovely holiday had booked pool view room but given one overlooking the street. Told no pool view rooms left. 2 hotels Made into one so a lot of walking between room, pool and dining hall. Rooms and beds comfortable. Lovely pool area no problem at all getting sun bed at any time of day They also have a quite garden area with double sun beds and hot tubs. An indoor pool and spa (which we never found). There is a private gate opening directly onto the beach. Besides main dining room they also have al a carte restaurant and adjoining the hotel a tapas restaurant. You can eat here at no extra charge 1 visit to each per week. I must say that of the many hotels that my husband and I have stayed at the staff here were the most friendly and seemed really happy in their work. A quick walk out of the hotel one way takes you to the centre of Cala Do, with its vast array of pubs and restaurants. Bar diference and Dugans Irish bar worth a visit. A walk out of the hotel the other way takes you to the beach and the bridge were u can catch the little train or the local buses. Entertainment at hotel low key but good resident duo Jamie and Taylor, entertainment rep Fernando very good mixed bag of day time activities available but you are not pressured to join in. The only down sides are the air con. Some areas of hotel ok but dining room and our room 2521 inadequate . Would defiantly recommend and would visit againMore

Excellent hotel

The hotel exceeded both our expectations. It was lots of little touches that made one amazing holiday from the glass of champagne and strawberry on arrival, followed by a bottle of champagne, rose and chocolates in our room to the complimentary meal in the a'la carte and tapas restaurants. The hotel is furnished to a high modern standard with clean rooms and towels daily. The staff are so friendly and helpful from reception to Fernando providing entertainment round the pool. The location is fantastic right on the beach so you have a choice of beach or pool where you don't have to get up at 6am (a refreshing change) to get a sun bed. It's only a short walk into town or down to the marina so the location is ideal. We will definitely be returning to the Rocador.More

Our hotel of choice for the last 25 years

This was our first visit to the Hotel Rocador since its recent refurbishment. We were very excited to see all the changes and had emailed the hotel previous to our arrival to request a room with a sea view as we weren't given this option when we booked. Arrived late at night via private transfer and were met with a nice glass of cava (no strawberries as mentioned in other reviews! - shame!) We were shown to our room which we realised was in the old part of the hotel. This wasn't what we had requested but it was too late to do anything about it. Rooms are now very modern and clean and we had a lovely cold buffet waiting for us which we enjoyed sitting on the balcony. The next morning we were very disappointed to find that our view had no sea view! I asked to speak to the manager but was told by an unhelpful lady on reception that I couldn't see him! So we went to have breakfast (very nice) and then straight to sit by the pool where I emailed the manager! He luckily replied to my email query and told me that I had been given an upgrade and that is why we were in that room! Unfortunately I am a seasoned traveller to the Rocador so I know that being put in that part of the hotel is NOT an upgrade! The rooms are smaller and so are the balconies. In fairness to the manager he did find us a sea view room which we moved to a couple of days later which had a gorgeous view and is much more suitable for someone who especially chooses the Rocador as their holiday venue each year! Overall impression of the revamped Rocador is 'very good'. There are a few things that would make this hotel even better and I mention them in the hope that this review helps future guests. 1. If you want a sunbed in the shade then you might struggle as there are not enough umbrellas for all couples (this is a shame). My husband and I were always out by the pool at 9am when it opened so we always found perfect beds for us. 2. The pool is no longer peaceful but has the very loud Fernando (making friends with his choice of holidaymakers). The music cd is on repeat every day! Only about 10 people around the pool are interested in his entertainment. The singing couple sound very nice and are pleasant to listen to. 3. Ignore the drinks menu stuck up on the wall at the pool bar as they don't serve half the drinks. 5 times I asked for a milkshake and was given 5 different excuses which ranged from "we can't make them as the manager won't buy us a machine" to "we have no milk today". I bought drinks from outside the hotel and brought them in instead. Also, it seems to be the spanish way for people who work at bars to finish whatever they are doing before even thinking of serving you!! 4. You can't drink any drinks in your room as the maids don't clean or replace the glasses or cups! How odd and disgusting!! Now for the positives - the rooms are gorgeous, the beds are so comfortable and the showers are warm most of the time (the rainfall shower is lovely when it works!). The whole makeover of the hotel has been done to a high standard and the pool is just the right temperature. It is a shame there is now only 1 pool as it does get quite busy.Be careful when getting in the pool as the rail is very loose. The tv is great if you like watching a bit whilst you are away. You can even get ITV! The weather was gorgeous - blue sky and sun all the time. The a la carte restaurant was lovely and we felt very spoilt - a lovely added touch is that every lady gets a red rose. The waitresses in the restaurant are all the same ones from previous years but seemed sooo much happier. They were more chatty, relaxed and friendly. It would be great if there was a short route which took you from the pool to the reception (rather than having to go all the way through the hotel) but this is just a minor point. Would we return? We would love to but we don't know if we can risk not getting a room with a sea view.More

Clean, modernised hotel -recommended

Renovated to a very high standard, but I would definitely pay extra for a sea view or you won't appreciate how good the beach view is, and could end up facing the road with a small balcony. Echo other people's views that the rooms do need some drawers as storage space is limited to a small wardrobe, but could not fault the bedroom or bathroom otherwise. Fantastic food selection in the buffet restaurant, and the tapas restaurant attached to the hotel called Sa Font is amazing. Staff are very friendly and helpful; only criticism is lack of staff in the bars; you have to wait a long time for a drink and the system is crazy. Pool bar is the only one open during the day, and the music is way too loud for a sophisticated Couples hotel. Not enough umbrellas although you can always get a bed in the sun; the chill out area has only 13 beds so a nice idea but could do with more beds and umbrellas for those wanting peace instead of a disco. The bar also does not have enough tables in the shade, and cannot cope with the demand for food at the busy lunchtime period. These are really minor grumbles and would definitely go back, but they need to sort the bars/staffing. The lobby bar is soulless and does not open till 6; again only 1 guy on duty who could never get the computer till to work! So the restaurant bar is the best, but only opens at 6.30 - if you can find someone to serve you; guys, you are missing out here on people who want to spend money! would also have been nice to have a porter available as some of the rooms are a fair walk. well done to the staff and a very helpful Thomson rep called SarahMore
