Chic, charming and completely relaxing, this boutique hotel has got everything you need for the ultimate wind-down.
Small and utterly delightful, the Melia Cala d’Or is the epitome of boutique chic. Low-rise, whitewashed buildings melt into landscaped Mediterranean gardens. And grabbing centre-stage, the swimming pool is edged by trellises trailing heavy blossoms of bougainvillea. Completing the pool scene is a frame of shrubs, palms and tall pine trees.

The serene ambience continues inside, where luxurious furnishings and subtle décor are the order of the day. Think deep sofas and pale rugs. And in the wood-panelled lounge and piano bar, rich earthy tones blended with pale neutrals dominate.

The bedrooms, meanwhile, are decked out in bold blues, with suites coming in shades of yellow and terracotta. And whichever accommodation you opt for, you’ll enjoy luxurious touches like minibars, bathrobes and slippers. Plus hydromassage tubs in the bathrooms.

Whether you choose to eat inside, on the terrace, or in the poolside Sa Pastera restaurant, you’ll find more of the same effortless elegance.

Finally, you’ll find you’re handily placed for the cove of Cala Gran and the centre of Cala d’Or itself. It’s all within walking distance.

Your guide to Cala D'or, Majorca

“Want to put on the style? Cala d’Or’s sophisticated vibe, glittering marina and sublime golden-sanded coves tick all the right boxes.”

There’s a chicness about Cala d’Or that’s unmissable. One of Majorca’s most stylish resorts, this marina-centred community is high on the island’s rich-and-famous list.

Spread around seven south-eastern coves and comprised of whitewashed apartments, villas and restaurants, its epicentre is a glittering, yacht-filled marina. With its stylish, small-town feel, it’s a lovely place to lose a few hours. Browse for souvenirs at the galleries, boutiques and leather and ceramic shops before relaxing at a waterside café. Then enjoy a leisurely lunch or chilled cocktail as you watch the world pass by, serenaded by the gentle kiss of waves on the sleek, sunlit boats.

When you’re not pottering and people-watching, cherry-pick from the resort’s popular beaches. The main cove of Cala Gran fronts the pedestrianised centre and offers stunning yellow sands, sunbeds and pedalos for enjoying the safe, clear waters. Further on, the cove of Cala Llonga borders the marina, making it ideal if you want water’s edge restaurants right on tap. And if you’re particularly fussy, take a brief saunter in either direction to discover the five other coves, each as alluring as the last.

Next up, why not succumb to the sightseeing urge? Travel to Palma, where a chic marina rubs shoulders with an atmospheric old town crowded with shops, galleries and traditional tapas bars. Or disappear into the countryside to uncover romantic villages like Felanitx with its lively Sunday market.

By night though, it’s hard to better Cala d’Or. Settle at a starlit restaurant for a dinner of chargrilled fish accompanied by a fine local wine. And then live it up at the sociable, but never frenetic bars and discos, giving your day a magical finale.
