We loved this hotel lovely rooms and have lots of room the only downside is that if you are on the top floor on the back of the hotel you can't sit on your balcony it is way to hot and you don't have any cover. More
Good family hotel
We (2 adults, 7yr old daughter and 9yr old son) have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Cala d'Or Playa Apartments, last week in July/first week in August. Self catering in room 114. Great hotel, really friendly staff. Would recommend for any family staying in the area. Positives: Air con in room, good size and clean Daily cleaning/bed making (good, friendly cleaners) Good daytime and evening entertainment - animation team are great without being over the top. Nice big pool Nice big balcony with table and chairs Friendly bar and restaurant staff Surprisingly good sofa beds for the kids (we faced them together to make a double bed for them to sleep together). If you have kids that fall out of bed these are great, you can do what we did or spin them round and put them against the wall. No need for bed guards. Safe room behind reception, but none in the rooms. This was fine for us. Free lockers, showers and use of towels on day of departure (11am room checkout) Good little play area for the kids and indoor air hockey/pool area Negatives: Typical reserving of sun beds. They all have towels on them really early (7am+), half of them with no one on them all day. I wasn't getting up and doing that so we just used the table and chair area by the pool. Tables and chairs in the rooms need some sort of rubber feet fitting to them, especially on the balcony. We had early risers next door who decided to re arrange the furniture every morning.. the noise is really annoying. Bathroom needs a bit of updating as does the fridge but both are clean and useable First week was fairly busy, second week was getting even more so. Cala d'Or is a nice part of Mallorca but if you are a beach lover, hire a car and go to somewhere like Cala Millor. It does have a couple of beaches but they are small coves so in peak time get really busy. Tips: Get a room away from the pool, it can get noisy until gone midnight. A quiet room for me is better than a decent view. Hire a car, even if it's for a few days. Roig in the town are great for service and price even if like us, you book a few days before you want it. They will pick you up and drop you off free of charge but the walk is only about 15 mins from the hotel. Book before you go away for an even better price and take out excess insurance with a UK company before you go for peace of mind. We booked last minute and paid €150 for 4 days including a kids car seat for a new 5 door Peugeot 308 with aircon and satnav, excess insurance was only £8.99 booking with a U.K. company (google MSE car hire advice). We tried most of the restaurants. I know it's subjective but the best three we found were Meat Club, La Sivina and The Pirate in that order. Meat club wins it by a mile, the food and service there is fantastic. Avoid the place opposite The Pirate (first one you come to as you walk down from Burger King) I'll try and find out the name but it's truly awful. Best place for a cooked breakfast is Supertramps. If you are up for Jetski riding, look up Jetski Balear. €119 per ski (up to 2 people) they pick you up from your hotel and drop you off after and includes everything. 1 hour tour around Portocolom coast and you get to jump off for a swim at one point. They take photos and email them to you after. Really friendly staff, can't recommend this highly enough. So all in all really pleased with our choice of apartments, we all had a great time and the kids loved it. Hopefully the tips above will help others. More
Cala do'r Playa apartments
We stayed at the Playa apartments again for the second year running after we had our first family holiday there last year and liked it that much we booked up as soon as we come back. This is a great place for families and the entertainment staff for the kids are brilliant and they don't just do stuff for the kids they have things for the adults to do too. There is no pressure to join in but it's fun to do so. The entertainment staff are second to none the have water sports but could do with a little more money so they could do more stuff ,but they manage to do there best always with a smile on there face. The hotel is really nice just a short 10 minute walk to the town which has many places to eat and have a few nice drinks. It's a lovely place to visit the beaches are both only 5 minute walk . We love it that much we are planning to book again for next year.More
Fantastic Family Holiday
We've just arrived home from a great 11 night stay at the Cala D'or Playa. This is a fantastic family hotel, small enough that the kids can play safely at the pool area while you can relax. The entertainment team are really good with the kids especially the kids disco in the evening. We really enjoyed some of the evening shows especially the light and fire show. I enjoyed the aqua fit in the pool some of the mornings. We were only self catering but we availed of the buffet on a couple of nights which was gorgeous and had a good range that the kids would eat too. Both of our kids (10 & 5) had a great time and didn't want to come home, they made great friends with some lovely families. Rooms are very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We really hope to be back soon.More
A fantastic family holiday. we'll be back again very soon.
We spent eight nights here with two children aged five and three. We booked a Superior room which was clean, spacious and had a large balcony overlooking the pool. The pool, playpark and surrounding area was excellent with lots to do to keep the children busy all day. There was also a daily kids club where the girls entertained groups of children with games and t-shirt painting etc. Additionally there were also regular activities taking part in the pool for the children. There were also daily activities for the adults including pool, darts, shooting, archery and aqua aerobics. Every night the entertainment team put on a kids mini disco followed by a different musical show. The whole team were excellent, but especially Chocolate and Looky Looky who were excellent performers and entertainers for both children and adults. The bar and restaurant area was excellent and Rudi was always very cheery and helpful. We included breakfast in our package which meant we could eat as much as we wanted between 8:30 and 10:30. Breakfast included cereal, fruit, yogurts, bread, croissants, bread, pastries, cooked breakfasts, juices and teas so there was plenty of choice and variety. The apartments were only a five minute walk from both Cala Gran and Cala Ferrera beaches which were very safe for the children to swim in. The central Cala D’or pedestrian area was also only five or six minutes walk and included plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants. The apartments were very family friendly, full of great staff and perfectly situated for beaches and restaurants. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be back again very soon.More
