Protur Bonamar Hotel

in Cala Bona , Majorca T rating: 4

  • Exclusively for adults
  • Great sea views
  • Customers return year after year
With a seaside setting, two pools, and an adults-only atmosphere, it’s hardly surprising the same guests come back again and again.
With a ringside Med seat and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the sea, this hotel certainly makes the most of its setting in Cala Bona.

Aside from the location, the stand-out feature here is the outdoor area which has just been given a new look along with a classy pool and fabulous chill-out area. And all of this is just footsteps from the coastline, so great views come as a matter of course.

There’s a stellar supporting cast of facilities, too. Elsewhere, you’ve got the likes of a whirlpool bath, a gym and an indoor pool, while live shows take the spotlight come sundown.

Step inside the hotel, meanwhile, and you’ll see that although it has 4T status, it’s got an unstuffy atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. The lobby and bar are decked out in apricot-tinged marble and come with plenty of comfy chairs. Meanwhile, the bedrooms are low-key spaces with cream walls and light-wood furniture.

Lastly, there’s the restaurant. A big bright space with well-dressed tables, it’s a help-yourself affair offering plenty of choice with lots of fish, salads and local speciality dishes, too.

Your guide to Cala Bona, Majorca

“Smaller and quieter than neighbouring Cala Millor, mellow Cala Bona will surround you with peaceful sandy beaches and a traditional, friendly atmosphere.”

Sun, sea and sand fans won’t have any quibbles with this delightful, traditional resort. Lying north of Cala Millor on Majorca’s scenic eastern shoreline, it’s smaller and more subdued than its colourful cousin. Unpack your bags, trail your toes in the water caressing the sands, and the laid-back atmosphere will soon overtake you, slowing you down and gradually spiriting your cares away on the waves.

Around its picturesque harbour, you’ll find narrow streets betraying its past as a simple fishing village. Wander around here before hitting the modern centre, whose traffic-free roads are flanked with bars and restaurants offering Chinese, Italian, fast food and authentic local cuisine.

And for a taste of the sea, turn tail back to the harbour, where merrily painted fishing boats still land their catches for the daily specials on quayside menus. Pull up a chair at an open-air restaurant, order a caldera de langosta, a beautiful lobster stew, and chilled wine or two and let a couple of hours pass by as you gaze out over the harbour waters.

Days at the beaches are the star attraction here though. A procession of man-made coves and longer sandy stretches parcelled up by long, rocky promontories, they’re tailor-made for carefree hours of tan-topping and paddling with the kids.

When you’re ready, swap the sands for sightseeing. The spectacular stalactites and stalagmites of the Drach Caves make an unforgettable sight. Whisk the kids to Cala Millor’s safari park or, if it’s a Friday, pop into the bustling outdoor market inland at San Servera. And at sundown, if you fancy exchanging Cala Bona’s sedate nighttimes for something more exciting, just hop in cab for Cala Millor’s vibrant bars and clubs.

Hotel good, staff very helpful, especially reception staff. Plenty of small supermarkets. Liked Stanley tea rooms and ca n pedro (who did made to order rolls for lunch). Good holiday but Cala Bona limited in activities and out of the way. more on this review
