Hotel Astoria Playa

A beachside spot, a restaurant starring Majorcan recipes, and regular evening entertainment make the Astoria Playa a great choice for couples. Inside, the modern rooms go for a streamlined theme. And in 2013, a sleek new pool joined the hotel's line-up.

The Astoria Playa is a real all-rounder. To begin with, it’s in a great location. It’s just across the road from an 8-kilometre stretch of soft white sand, 5 minutes from a good selection of restaurants, and less than 20 minutes from Alcudia Marina and its water-side bars.

The facilities at the hotel are impressive, too. For 2013 there’s a brand new pool with hydro-massage areas, plus a separate chill-out pool bordered by stylish Balinese beds. There’s a bar right next to the water, so you don’t need to go far for refreshments. When you’re not swimming, you can have a game of tennis or crazy golf.

In the evenings, you can tuck in to Majorcan and international dishes in the restaurant, or on the terrace overlooking the chill-out pool.

Bedrooms here have recently had a makeover, so you can expect minimalist décor, sleek flatscreen TVs and stylish parquet floors.

good value for money

My Wife and I stayed here as the resort was recommended by a friend and the hotel was centrally located and reasonable price (the cheapest hotel of any decent standard we could find). The rooms in the hotel were a decent size, kept clean every day, change of towels etc… The pool outside I thought was pretty small considering the size of the hotel, although we only ever spent any time in the pool in the early evening when we returned from a long day out and all the sunbed hoggers had gone inside for their daily ‘eat as much as you possibly can’ exercise. The food in the main restaurant was good quality, changed slightly every day, and each customer is allocated their own specific table which they are required to sit in every day. We usually had the table (4 seats) to ourselves but on occasion we joined just another couple (allocated the same table as us) was just finishing off their meal. It seemed a bit strange at the time to be sitting with strangers. The hotel is located across the main coastal road from the beach. It didn’t bother us at the time but now we have children we might prefer a beach side hotel as the roads are fairly busy and the drivers not that careful. The beach was only a few minutes walk away, over the main road and down a bit of sandy ally. The beach is very nice, ploughed early every morning, no litter, sea very clear and shallow, and reasonably safe for children as much as a beach can be. Overall a good hotel, good value for money, we would go againMore

Amazing food, great service.

Booked a last minute holiday in October half term holidays. Room on the 5th floor was very comfortable, with a balcony overlooking the pools and patio/outside entertainment area and with views into the distance. Clientele mainly German, Dutch or Spanish with a sprinkling of BritsPity that it is on the main drag, which isn't the most appealing part of the resort. Small fridge for drinks wasn't very effective, but was better than nothing. Probably would struggle at the height of summer. Staff were attentive, courteous and funny. Choice of food was amazing! Around 30 different staters, 15 main courses and 20+ desserts plus ice creams or fruit. (We were on a half board basis). Gin & tonics in the bar were generous and reasonably priced. Wine list was interesting and again reasonable. Staff were happy to re-cork and save any partly drunk bottles, though my wife and I never tested this particular service! There is a gated car parking area, though we were directed to park on the side street, which seemed a little strange. 18 hole crazy golf seemed a strange use of the well manicured lawn area, given that this is an adults only hotel. Given that we got an almost half price deal and that this was the last week before the hotel closed for the winter, the service, food an facilities were excellent.More

As good as it gets

Arrived at 1.00pm on 10th Sept expecting to go straight to our room, unfortunately the Hotel was overbooked and we were transferred to a Hotel near the harbour for 1 night. This didn't go down too well as you might expect. However, on our arrival at 10.00am the following morning we were aptly compensated and started what was to be a superb holiday. We are quite well travelled with holidays in all Canary Islands and Greek Islands, but may I say that none of them come up to the standard of the Astoria Playa. It beats them all hands down on cleanliness, friendliness and dining. The best food we have experienced in a long time. The drinks are reasonably priced and they are all branded and not the cheap rubbish you get at some rip off Hotels. The evening entertainment was good, our particular favourite was the Bee Gees Tribute group who in my mind were excellent. Some of the others were ok, but it's just a matter of taste. We never used the large pool at the front of Hotel, but could always get a sun bed at the smaller pool which we found to our liking. During our stay we did a Island Tour with No Frills. This was coach, boat, tram & train, this was well worth the money to see parts of the Island that you may not know exist. I could go on but just to sum up, this was one of the best Holidays we have experienced and we put that down to the Hotel being A1, liked it so much that we are already booked for June 2015. To anybody thinking about booking here, just go for it you won't regret it.More

Beautiful hotel, great pools and fantastic staff

We had a lovely time at Astoria Playa this October. It was very reasonably priced, in great condition (newly refurbished rooms and public areas), perfect for couples who just want to chill-out and the staff treated you like part of the family. We were sad to leave and would definitely come back. The surrounding area was the only drawback, but this wasn't helped by the fact most hotels were closed for the season - but that really didn't matter as we toured the island with a hire car (parked in the hotel car park!) when the weather was off and lazed by the pool when the sun was shining.
