A beachside spot, a sleek pool scene, and a restaurant with lots of options make the Astoria Playa a great choice for couples.
Astoria Playa is just across the road from an eight-kilometre stretch of white sand. Then, there’s the good selection of restaurants within a five-minute walk. The waterside bars at Alcudia Marina, meanwhile, are a 10-minute taxi ride away.
The hotel’s inside spaces have a contemporary look, with chunky red furniture to offset the whitewashed walls. Monochrome colours, flat-screen TVs and spotlights carry on the designer feel in the bedrooms.
These superior twin rooms come with a balcony for that bit of outside space - where you’ll have views of the pool. There’s centrally controlled air-conditioning - plus you’ll have free Wi-Fi, bathrobes, slippers and and a Nespresso coffee machine. And just so you know you'll also receive a bottle of wine on arrival.
Stayed Sept/Oct 2015 - as a couple in our late 50s
Bedroom very clean and modern
Entertainment of a good standard
Gardens very well kept
Staff were good and worked hard to keep everyone happy
Food was good and lots of variety, however some meat and fish that was being cooked fresh was cut so small and I mean small portions, they were a little slow cooking the fresh meats, need more than 1 chef cooking when busy.
I did encounter one chef's get moody with me when I asked for lean bacon in the morning as the slices of bacon were cut in half and they mostly tried to give me the fatty end this was because they couldn't keep up cooking it quick enough at times for you to be able to serve yourself from the hot trays.
Pool was freezing and very few people in (3), could do with it being heated, they had no rails to help people with walking difficulties to walk in and out.More
Great hotel. Easy access to beach (5 min walk). Pool never felt over crowded. All staff friendly and helpful. Room lovely decor and spacious and clean. Food was amazing! So much choice in the buffets and great quality. More
Nice location, modern but a bit "cold" place
Located just a lane away from marvellous beach, this is a modern and well maintained property.
All the rooms have nice views and the experience of a place that disallows children was quite something. We looked forward to it and quite enjoyed it.
The service was quite typical of a hotel, helpful but impersonal. There were several honest attempts at making the service quite personal (remembering our names and talking about our country etc) but they appeared a bit scripted. That shouldn't quite influence your decision to stay at this place though. It would be unfair to compare warmth of a homestay / b&b with a hotel.
Simply put, appeared to be one of the better properties lining up the beach!More
Good hotel and pretty good value
I've stayed at the hotel twice this year for cycling trips. I went back for the second visit, so it must be pretty good! The hotel is now adults-only, so it is a bit more relaxed than some of the other places on the Alcudia-Playa del Muro strip. The hotel looks quite good from outside and the grounds are looked after pretty well. With the exception of one or two bar staff with a bit of an attitude, the hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant staff, in particular, are excellent. The food in the restaurant is above average, but not as good as one or two other hotels in the area. However, for the price of adding the buffet to you reservation, it is pretty good value. The rooms are a little narrow, but generally OK. If you book one of their premier rooms, the hotel provided a Nespresso coffee machine. However, this came with only two coffee sachets which were not replenished so you had to buy more yourself - not a good touch. Having said that, stay for more than a few nights in the premier room (which is the same as a normal room plus the coffee machine and maybe a robe!), then the hotel provided a free private transfer to and from the airport - a very nice touch!
The hotel entertainment each evening can be a bit hit or miss, depending on your tastes. In the end, we preferred to sit outside on the other side of the hotel in the evenings, away from the music. It's a shame the hotel doesn't have more tables on that side. We requested a room on an upper floor to keep away from the noise in the evenings. Odd numbered rooms are on the south facing side (above the music area) if you want the best of the sun in the evenings. There is wifi throughout the hotel, although having to log in continually is infuriating.
Overall the hotel is pretty good value most of the year, although the price can vary quite a bit. One thing they need to address, however, are the lifts. The two lifts are old, small, slow, and totally inadequate for a hotel of this size.More
We booked this hotel as it had great reviews and as we really wanted to go back to majorca we chose this hotel. It's perfect for couples and people can't put their towels on the sun loungers at 4 in the morning!!!! ð¤ which I was very happy about as I like to sleep in and not have to worry about getting up early to get a sun lounger. Every night there is great entertainment, the hotel is clean and staff are lovely and very helpful. The location is great and when you get to the beach you can walk into the centre and what an beautiful walk it is, you won't want to get a taxi at all as there are wood panels at the entrance from the street to the beach that you can walk along till you get into the centre. The breakfast was yummy and plenty of it, even if you get there just before finishing. There are two pools, one pool is a chill out pool where you just relax and the other has a great choice of music, great cocktails, friendly staff and a great sized pool you can swim lengths in which I love swimming. I can't wait to revisit this place which I will be this summer of 2016. Well worth the money and would highly recommend it! ðMore
