Hotel Astoria Playa

A beachside spot, a restaurant starring Majorcan recipes, and regular evening entertainment make the Astoria Playa a great choice for couples. Inside, the modern rooms go for a streamlined theme. And in 2013, a sleek new pool joined the hotel's line-up.

The Astoria Playa is a real all-rounder. To begin with, it’s in a great location. It’s just across the road from an 8-kilometre stretch of soft white sand, 5 minutes from a good selection of restaurants, and less than 20 minutes from Alcudia Marina and its water-side bars.

The facilities at the hotel are impressive, too. For 2013 there’s a brand new pool with hydro-massage areas, plus a separate chill-out pool bordered by stylish Balinese beds. There’s a bar right next to the water, so you don’t need to go far for refreshments. When you’re not swimming, you can have a game of tennis or crazy golf.

In the evenings, you can tuck in to Majorcan and international dishes in the restaurant, or on the terrace overlooking the chill-out pool.

Bedrooms here have recently had a makeover, so you can expect minimalist décor, sleek flatscreen TVs and stylish parquet floors.

Relaxing & Friendly

What a fantastic hotel! RECEPTION upon arrival was friendly and courteous with every detail you could ever want from a hotel and not only about the Astoria itself but also the location including bus routes, attractions etc. It was quite late when we arrived (22:45) and so dinner was over despite this the hotel kept a cold salad bar open for any late arrivals such as us which was very welcoming indeed, although an offer of a coffee or tea would have been gratefully received (water and milk was available unless you wanted to purchase a drink from the bar. THE ROOM was very pleasant, we stayed in 109 which was a lovely spacious room that offered a view of the mountains and a large flat roof which at first we thought would be a negative but it actually was very good giving us more privacy than probably any other rooms balconies. The beds were memory foam type which we had never slept on before and found them very comfortable and cooling especially with the lovely linen sheets which were crisp & white. The WC is separated by a frosted glass wall and door which may not be to everyone's liking but again it was spacious and spotless with a great dual power shower. Provided were shampoo, conditioner, soap & body milk which was surprisingly good (unlike some cheep hotels). BREAKFAST was in the style of a buffet that consisted of cereals, yogurts, fruits (fresh & dried) breads, meats, cheeses, omelettes, sausage, bacon, eggs, pastries, tea, coffee etc. etc. EVENING DINNER was also buffet style offering a different type of roasted meat and fish each night along with pasta, potatoes, vegetables, salads, not to mention the sweets that were in an abundance. The food was excellent and catered for everyone, I did not see or speak to anyone who could not find the type of food they enjoyed. THE BAR was well stocked as you would imagine it would be, the pricing may have been a little high but then when you have a quality hotel with standards as high as The Astoria you don't mind paying them. My favourite is the Long Island Iced Tea! Very refreshing but also very boozy! ENTERTAINMENT was of a good standard, there were different bands, singers or dancers on each night which normally kicked off at 21:15 following the dinner service and went on till 23:00. POOLS were very, very clean and well maintained with drinks being offered at both the large rectangular 'swimming pool' side or the more fancy 'chill out pool' side where loungers were at an abundance. There were also many soft seating areas for relaxing around of which 50% were shaded to cater for everyone. STAFF were the most pleasant and courteous that we have ever come across at any hotel, come to think of it anywhere! They were all very friendly and always had smiles on their faces giving each customer equal attention whilst speaking to them in their own language whether this was Spanish, German, English, French etc. OVERVIEW - In short this is the most amazing cleanest most welcoming hotel we have ever stayed in, which has made our minds up to definitely return again!More

October Getaway

Arrived: 13/10/2014 Left: 18/10/2014 (5 nights) Flight: Monarch Airlines from Birmingham Airport (Monarch staff were great) Coach transfer: took 90 minutes to get to the hotel because it was the other side of the island. To get your pre booked coach ticket, the desks are near the exit doors of thee airport to your left and right, I used Orbis. They will give you a ticket, on there is a number i.e. 420 as you walk out the airport you will notice coaches all parked up. Just locate your coach with your ticket number and present it to the coach driver. Room: 514 (5th floor) Half board: Breakfast & Evening meal When I arrived at the hotel I was greeted by a lovely lady, sorry forgot her name (short black hair) very friendly and helpful. I was then introduced to Daniel who was also very friendly and helpful. I did email the hotel a few months prior to my visit requesting for a 6th floor room if possible. This was noted on the paperwork however they only had a 5th floor room available which I was more than happy with because I paid the most basic rate for the room and half board. Room: Shower room: Plenty of space. Large sink (big plus for me) Cleaned to a good standard. Nice towels provided with shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Bed: Memory foam matress and pillows, which took me a while to get used to. Sheets were changed every day. Balcony: Really good size, table and two chairs, big plus with nice views. TV: 21 inch with 4 UK channels. Storage: To me the storage was suitable for just one person and not a couple. Hangers provided and kept in good order. Good safe provided for a basic charge rate. Wifi is free throughout the whole building which is really fast and you access the internet by both the pools, I was watching youtube music videos while by the pool and it ran so smoothly. The password for the internet is provided by reception and is changed once a week. Breakfast: between 7.30 and 10.30 fantastic service, so much to choose from, you really can't go wrong, just have as much as you like. Yes you can keep on filling your plate, drinks. Evening meal: between 18.00 to 22.00 once again fantastic service with plenty of choices. I had my breakfast and evening meal as soon as the room opened and each time I had the whole area and food for myself for at least 20 minutes before the other guests slowly trickled in :) Pool area: Very cold pool so I barely used it. Pool bar is fantastic, a big thanks to (Fredrick and Fran) very welcoming and helpful. I really enjoyed the Tropicano cocktail for just 5 euros. Free peanuts and cheese is provided. Location: Really good, a few streets away from the beach and lots of shops. When you arrive, ask for a free map of the area, very useful. Just to pre-warn you that when I went out for a while I was approached by a few Senegal guys who wanted to sell me Cannabis, Weed, Skunk or whatever you prefer to call it. They were very friendly and once I said no thanks they left me alone. They seemed very open about it and the tourists and shop owners in the area seemed really relaxed about it going on. The staff are very friendly and helpful. My rating regarding staff is below: Resturant staff: 10/10 Cleaners: 10/10 Front desk: 9/10 Pool staff: 10/10 You really can't go wrong with this hotel. You will be treated very well so just go ahead and enjoy. The Island is fantastic, the beaches are just amazing and the lovely boats are out of this world. I will visit the island again next year but this time I will stay in a villa, because I noticed some really nice ones there.More

Never Stayed in a Better Hotel

We returned home from the Astoria Playa on 16 October, 2014, having had a wonderful stay. In all respects this hotel ticks all the boxes - good food well cooked and presented, spotlessly clean in all areas, with very friendly considerate staff. Earlier this year we stayed at a hotel in Falmouth, Cornwall, and the difference in standards at the two hotels is unimaginable. The room at the Astoria Playa couldn't have been better. Many thanks to all the staff for giving us a wonderful stay.More

Great but for just one thing ( dont forget your ear plugs )

Just had 10 days at the Astoria Playa in October returned 17th. Lovely room just as described. Good restaurant, Very nice staff, Entertainment as you expect. One HUGE let down = LOUD MUSIC ALL DAY LONG. No peace and quite as you would expect from an all adult hotel. There are 2 Pools with lots of sunbeds Great we thought settling down to some much needed sun bathing. Music starts at 0900 and does not stop until the pool bar closes at approx. 1830. We tried the other pool the next day same thing happened MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC all day long. If you can call it music LOUD BASE Thump! Thump! Thump! We gave up after 3 days went to the beach for some peace and quite and spent our money down there. Bar staff please take note you will have hearing problems in 12 months if you don't protect your ears.More
