Hotel Astoria Playa

A beachside spot, a restaurant starring Majorcan recipes, and regular evening entertainment make the Astoria Playa a great choice for couples. Inside, the modern rooms go for a streamlined theme. And in 2013, a sleek new pool joined the hotel's line-up.

The Astoria Playa is a real all-rounder. To begin with, it’s in a great location. It’s just across the road from an 8-kilometre stretch of soft white sand, 5 minutes from a good selection of restaurants, and less than 20 minutes from Alcudia Marina and its water-side bars.

The facilities at the hotel are impressive, too. For 2013 there’s a brand new pool with hydro-massage areas, plus a separate chill-out pool bordered by stylish Balinese beds. There’s a bar right next to the water, so you don’t need to go far for refreshments. When you’re not swimming, you can have a game of tennis or crazy golf.

In the evenings, you can tuck in to Majorcan and international dishes in the restaurant, or on the terrace overlooking the chill-out pool.

Bedrooms here have recently had a makeover, so you can expect minimalist décor, sleek flatscreen TVs and stylish parquet floors.

what a lovely hotel

We booked a week at the Astoria Playa because of the reviews on trip advisor being so good, and we weren't disappointed. What a lovely hotel. Nothing was too much trouble. From reception to dining staff to pool and bar staff to bedroom staff, everyone was happy, polite and aimed to please. The food at breakfast and evening dinner was very well presented and such a huge selection you were spoilt for choice. The pool bar food was also excellent and a good price. Its in a perfect location to the beach, bus stops and land train stops. Its the cleanest, smartest hotel we've stopped in in Spain. You can hire beach\pool towels for 10 euro, but you get this back at the end of the holiday and you can swap them for clean ones every afternoon after 4.30pm, saves carrying towels with you if your tight for space in your cases. A hairdryer and free toiletries in the bathroom means even more space in your cases. Adult hotel only is a plus, we can't wait to return next year.More

Great but strange!

We had a few thing go wrong for us when stopping here and the response wasn't great hence the 3 star rating for our stay here. Don't get me wrong, this is a 4 star hotel, but we had some bad luck that lead to some strange management behavior! I have also noticed that other "critical" reviews about the hotel management have been removed, which strikes me as a bit sinister :-) The good stuff: Decor is great, really funky with whitewashed walls, LED lights and cool large room numbers Both pool areas were immaculate. Clean, lots of sunbeds good atmosphere Staff were excellent at dinner breakfast and around the pool. Maids friendly helpful and always smiling. Room was clean and as we were at the end of the hotel our balcony was massive which was great Beds were superb, actually better than at home! The best WiFi I have ever used anywhere. I'm surprised I can't pick it up at home it was that strong :-) Bathroom was generally good The food was excellent and I am very picky. We found things always warm contrary to other reviews and the range was good. The location close to the beach and resort centre was very good The not so good stuff: We arrived at 10.00am and were advised check in was not until 2pm! Not great after around 7 hours travelling... we had to go for a walk and got into our room about 12.00 We were assured that this was not the hotels fault but it wasn't ours either and was not a good start Not enough storage space in the room, we found 3 small draws was not enough Whilst unpacking I knocked the ashtray cover off on the balcony and there were 3 bitten fingernails inside. I disposed of them down the toilet After unpacking, I ran a bath and when I got in I noticed a thick black hair dangling underneath the tap! I finished and emptied the bath and ran the shower to clear the hair away where I realized the reason it was still there, it was stuck in one of the joints. I "pinged" it out and washed it away. My partner then had a shower and I heard her cursing from the bathroom. When she came out she showed me what was wrong - any sort of pressure to the shower and the head moved in the holder to point at the ceiling. We reported all of this before dinner at reception and the chap said all the right things but didn't seem very happy with us about it. He said he would report the issues to the management team. To their credit we later found a receipt for maintenance within the hour for fixing the shower. Upon entering dinner, a manager asked to speak with us when we were finished. We did and have to say that we found the response dismissive, almost angry with us! We laughed later saying that WE almost felt like saying sorry!! :-) We are not idiots... We are aware complaining in the "right way" gets more results and can be constructive for both parties. It was all very strange and disappointing really. Due to the location of our room we were right over the entertainment that went on until around 11pm and then music until about 11.30. We inquired about moving but the hotel was full. We learnt to stay out of our room until the music finished... No early nights to be had for us! At our first breakfast I found another (short this time) black hair! This time in the mushrooms. My partner encouraged me to complain and I said "no chance, not after last night!" We continued to eat here for the rest of the holiday though and had no other issues. We then went all week being "blanked" by this manger that had dealt with our complaint. It was actually funny by the end of the week, all the staff were great apart from the one who appeared to be in charge! :-) All that being said I would encourage you to book here as it is a nice place and I would not disagree with all the good reviews on here... We just had an unlucky time!!!More

Class A service from start to finish!! Five stars!

After much research I booked a weeks stay at Astoria Playa based on the reviews on this website and my god we were not disappointed! From arrival (we arrived at midnight) we were greeted with a lovely welcome from the reception staff who were expecting us (a nice little touch). We were made to feel very welcome and there was even a cold dinner put on for us! The room and hotel were stunning! We stayed in room 114 which over looked one of the pools. We had a lovely double room which was clean, chic and very spacious. I Absolutely loved the decor which had appealed to me from the start. The bathroom/wet room was very very spacious with a huge shower! Can't fault anything! We had a lovely spacious balcony which we enjoyed sitting on in the evenings as it was very peaceful. The two pools were very well kept and visually appealing keeping in line with the hotels chic decor! The food was simply amazing, we went on a half board basis which included a huge buffet selection at breakfast and dinner with a wide range of different cuisines cooked to a very high standard. It was my boyfriends birthday whilst we were out there and we decided to stay at the hotel for dinner! The staff surprised him with a birthday cake and a bottle of champagne which was lovely as we weren't expecting it! The location was fab, a short walk away from the beautiful Alcudian beach! Surrounded by shops, bars and restaurants, we were spoilt for choice! The staff..they made our experience! Always greeted with a smile and a hello/good morning no matter what time of day or how busy they were! They make the hotel what it is, always willing to go above and beyond to help make your experience a good one. Absolutely cannot fault them one bit, they are an asset to the hotel! Management should be very proud of their work force! As we sit here lounging in the lovely bar area on our last day we are very sad to be leaving and absolutely can not wait to return again next year! Top marks Hotel Alcudia it's been an absolute pleasure! As someone who has never written a review before I have been compelled to do so! Highly recommend this hotel!More
