Of course there's Puerto del Carmen's main beach, the enormous ribbon of sand that is Playa Grande, but it can get busy during the high season. So here's a hot tip – dotted along the coast are a series of small beaches, just past the Hotel San Antonio. Follow the steps down to these hideaway sweeps and unfurl you'll beach towel in relative seclusion. And when the tide comes in, do what the locals do, retreat to the rocks. They make a rather surprising comfortable perch.
