When it comes to location, this hotel is hard to beat. The beach is practically within throwing distance, Rubicon Marina is five minutes away on foot, and the town centre comes in at ten.

We stayed in a deluxe room with a view over the pools across the sea to Fuerteventura. The hotel is a little uninspiring as you approach the main entrance, but this quickly gives way to a much better interior. We were welcomed warmly in reception and we were allocated a room on the top floor, there are only three! Really nice room, two queen sized beds and a lovely balcony view. Room was spotless and cleaned daily by friendly staff. Much has been said in other reviews of the excellent position, direct access on to the promenade and easy walks into Playa Blanca centre one way, and the Rubicon Marina the other. The main sandy beach is only 200 metres from the gate to the promenade. It is a lovely beach with gentle shelving into the water ideal for families with young children. In March you have to be brave to cope with the initial icy shock of the water! We were half board which I was nervous about as we normally like to try different restaurants, there are plenty to choose from within a 15 minute walk. However the restaurant reserved for Deluxe customers we were very happy with. Yes it was buffet service but a wide selection of meat and fish cooked for you quickly and efficiently, together with themed nights and friendly staff (special mention to Aurelia our waitress), meant that we did not find ourselves missing eating out. The deluxe option is well worth it as it gives you flexibility to eat in either restaurant, plus a lounge for deluxe customers where we could get a coffee late morning and something to eat if we wanted-all complimentary. We sampled the entertainment on three evenings. A variable offering of Il Divo, The Beatles and The Supremes. All staff we met in reception, the bars, and the restaurants were friendly and wanted to help with requests. What is there not to like? Well a couple of niggles that exasperated us somewhat. Point One- 40 Euros deposit for two Pool Towels is excessive, even though it was returned when we returned the towels at the end of the week. More puzzling was the answer to my question - Could we change the towels during the week? Yes for one euro each. Not going to damage the holiday budget but Why!! Point Two- A Coffee Machine was provided but we were told that Coffee Pods were only supplied on day one, any additional would need to be purchased! A Kettle could be rented at a cost of 10 Euros. We didn't as we were niggled by the nonsense of it all. We had a great week and will return for all the good things I have mentioned, but our luggage will have a travel kettle, Coffee Pods and tea bags in it.More
Have visited Playa Blanca 4 times before but first time stay at this hotel. The hotel is well placed for the marina, beach and town. We chose the deluxe option and had a lovely room overlooking the pool. Good selection of food for both breakfast, lunch and dinner. Great pool area at the front of the hotel but we tended to use the pool at the back of the hotel where it was slightly quieter. Would definitely recommend and we will return.More
4 star??? No way!
Didn't realise segregation was alive and well in 2017 in Lanzarote! Certainly wasn't made clear to me when booking that there is a two tier standard running. If you're a standard run of the mill guest you get a plastic glass of fruit juice on check in whereas if you're deluxe you get cava in a glass! Areas by the pool are segregated for deluxe guests, I.e more comfy sun beds, for the rest of us just a cheap sun bed with a tatty cushion! Hotel hisperia, whatever are you thinking??? This is wrong, wrong, wrong on so many levels just a cynical ploy in getting more money out of unsuspecting guests. We stayed at the hotel Natura Palace last year which was a true 4 star hotel. This is 2 star at best. Absolutely shocking...one final moan, the restaurant and I say that loosely as its more of a canteen, is like going back to 1970s Spain. Why anyone would ever go back here again I have no idea. Hotel management please do not reply saying all your guests matter. You should be ashamed of yourselves.More
A week away in mid March 2017
We were checked in quite quickly by Irene on Reception, who I must say was absolutely lovely and very helpful with fabulous customer service. She also checked us out when we left and I told her that she had been much appreciated for her helpfulness. All was well with our room on the ground floor overlooking the pool, massive bed, large room and an outside balcony almost as big as the room. After we had sorted our luggage out etc we decided to go for our evening meal, which we did not enjoy unfortunately and went for a walk to the marina for a look around, then back to room. This is our decision in life but we are both smokers so found an ashtray on the outside tables and had a last cigarette (or two) a chat and were very happy. The breakfast next morning was quite good, English very well catered for. We stayed around the lovely heated swimming pool all day, that was the life we thought. We decided to go out for a meal the next night after our first full day, quite a few good restaurants at the marina or town. On our return had to find an ashtray again for our balcony as it had been taken away, even though we had emptied it that morning. We sat for a while with the outside bedroom door shut so no smoke would go in the room, for about half an hour. My husband visited the toilet and shut the outside door while he was inside the room. When he came back he had a letter in his hand, which had been posted under the door after we had arrived back from our night out. We opened it together and we were absolutely GOBSMACKED, I nearly fell off my chair, please find photo of actual letter below. I looked at the booklet regarding all rules and regulations set by the hotel, which said NO Smoking in room but NO MENTION of the balcony. Also looked at small A shaped card re smoking in German and Spanish No English.Still don't know what it said. Now as I am 61yrs old, over the years have been to many parts of the world and I know that life has changed enormously regarding smoking during recent years, I cant tell you how angry and disappointed regarding our treatment on our first full night at the hotel. I am sorry to say, this really spoiled our stay for the rest of the week, when we wanted to smoke we had to leave the room and sit outside when we were actually outside on our balcony, but not allowed to do that and were given a warning that if we were caught again we would receive a bill of 150 euros. We are and ALWAYS will be a respectable couple who would NEVER smoke in a hotel room and do not smoke in our own home. As you have probably guessed if you have read this review, we would not return to the hotel. Please find the letter we received below and brochure extract from brochure re smoking:-More
