When it comes to location, the Hotel Hesperia Playa Dorada is hard to beat. There’s a sandy beach 2 minutes’ walk away and the shops and yachts at Rubicon marina take just over 5 minutes to reach on foot. You can also walk along the prom to the town centre – it’ll take about 10 minutes. At the hotel itself, the pool scene definitely deserves a mention. There are 2 big pools – one’s criss-crossed by little bridges, while the other’s next to a pair of children’s pools. There’s also an al fresco bar serving salads, sandwiches and snacks. Inside, there’s a buffet restaurant with local and international dishes, and a wellness centre with a pool, hot tub and sauna. As for keeping busy, there’s a list of activities that includes archery and boules, a 9-hole pitch and putt course, and a gym. After dark, meanwhile, you’ve got live entertainment and a nightclub.

Just returned from Playa Blanca after spending 5 days there to celebrate my 40 th birthday with a friend. Our first stay at the Hesperia and we were quite happy with our standard room around the quite pool. Nice large room, excellent location on the front promenade. On arrival staff were not particularly pleasant but check in was smooth. We were not offered to upgrade apparently they were full to capacity in the Deluxe rooms. The standard restaurant was clean in itself but the food was limited and poor. If I returned I would eat out as there are lots of reasonably priced restaurants we had booked on a half board basis. Hairs were found in the food on 2 occasions staff informed but nothing said or done. On our third night in the hotel we were woken at 5 am by someone trying to get in our room. My friend then was petrified as the attempted intruder was sat on our balcony. We rang reception and one security man came found the man spoke to him and the man walked off. The hotel security shouted something to us in Spanish and went. We were petrified and sat for 2 hours shaking and afraid to move incase this guy returned. No one rang us or came back to see if we were ok. When daylight came we ran to reception as we were situated at the back of the hotel to voice how fearful and dissapointed we were that no one had come back just to reassure us. We informed the hotel we would be sleeping in the lobby if they could not move us. It later turned out that the man had been in the room next door and had stolen from them whilst they were asleep. We were given another room by the front desk manager who was lovely but we had to wait till 12 in the after. The whole incident ruined our stay and we were baracading ourselves in our room at night. We were .Over into deluxe which i would say gives u much better food quality and choice in the Deluxe resteraunt. In conclusion i feel that customer safety should be paramount and unfortunately we felt let down in the night by the staff. Once given another room we tried to enjoy our short stay but unfortunately this incident had ruined it. In conclusion good location book deluxe and don't expect reassurance or support by staff if u experience an incident like we did.do not think we will dare holiday as two females again on our own will have to take the husbands. Safety n security policies need looking at and a bit of customer service training for front desk staff. Thank goodness the front desk manager was understanding.More

Lovely hotel but needs to improve its restaurant
We holiday here twice a year love it's location and the cleanliness over all is good. As other reviews have stated the way the management have tried to segregate deluxe guests and standard guests has made it look.tacky. We . did not upgrade too deluxe room as is always offered when checking in and were given a renovated standard room overlooking the quiet swimming pool. The addition on a fridge in the room was welcome and the large comfortable beds were a big improvement.Unfortunately there is still a lack of tea coffee making facilities, this should be standard for a 4* hotel( we continue to bring our own). The restaurant has deteriorated over the last 2 years and I fail to understand why management do not read the reviews and reply like other hotels do.We were given a questionnaire regarding the restaurant by staff to wards the end of our stay and actual stated it resembles a canteen not a restaurant in a ?4* Also the chief lacks passion for food because it is bland greased and presented poorly I have noticed that there are at least two local hotels that have been refurbished to a high standard with good reviews so the management at the Hesperia will have to start taking note of its regular guests if the wish to keep them.As also stated in other reviews the lack of care by majority of staff in the restaurant makes one feel they don't want to.be.there.Perhaps a course in customer services would.help because either they don't care in which case I am sure there are plenty without jobs who could take their.place or they feel the management only want to cut budgets and staff levels PLEASE HESPERIA don't ignore these reviews do something before your regular guests go else where. It is an ideal location and unlike other resorts on the island it is clean and retains it elegance with a lovely coastal walk way.My last review said unhappy hotel I feel this has not improved.much and as much as we like to tip good service this has only happened once a.d that was the cleaner who was very cheerful and efficient.I will have to think hard if we are to return later in the year.I will add the staff on reception are helpful and smile that is a big improvement as first impressions are the ones that you remember.I would like to see management more around the hotel and even eating the food then they can see where the problems are.More
Lighten up, folks, it's OK
We've stayed here before, or pre-apartheid as some would have it. We're here now, in fact, and nothing gives us greater pleasure than an unauthorised tiptoe across the AstroTurf. As far as we're concerned, the hotel should just be a base, and once we've kipped and eaten breakfast it's up to us where we go. One minor issue-the toothless old bird who lies by the pool from dawn 'til dusk is really scaring us....More
My wife and I really like this hotel and it is in a fabulous location with it being only a few steps away from Playa Dorada Beach. We found the food to be adequate to good and the night time entertainment was good. But all of this cannot make up for not getting a good night's sleep!! We have family who routinely stay at a hotel in Costa Teguise, where they are given soft pads for their beds. I actually e-mailed the Hesperia Playa Dorada and asked about this and got a reply that they were unable to provide soft pads for the beds, but could provide extra pillows!! We were thinking about staying here again but now will probably stay elsewhere in Playa Blanca in order to sleep better and not wake up with aching backs!! A pity. Has anyone else found the beds to be hard and uncomfortable here??More

You get what you pay for
Just got back from 1 weeks stay. Stayed half board, we were offered the choice of staying deluxe but when we declined they did not try to push it. Have stayed here before and the location is perfect. The hotel is kept lovely and clean and we found all the staff pleasant, all you need to do is say hello!! Did not stay for the evening entertainment as we prefer to go out and sample the live music venues, which are great. Spoke to a couple who had booked into the deluxe but they did not think it was worth the extra money. We did not find the roped off areas a problem. Would stay again because of the location.More
