Es Vive loosely translates as ‘it’s alive’, and that’s certainly the case with this gay-friendly, adults-only hotel. It’s an achingly cool place that marries total relaxation with full-blown hedonism – summing up the spirit of the White Island in the process. Plus, every Wednesday during the summer, you’re in a great spot to witness the famous La Troya parade. Expect feather boas, strapping waxed chests and eight-inch heels aplenty.
Inside, the hotel is so retro it wouldn’t look out of place in Wallpaper* magazine. Spotlights complement chandeliers, while Sixties’ bubble chairs sit side-by-side with sleek noughties’ metal furnishings. Every bedroom is unique, but to give you an idea of what to expect, think clean lines, hot colours and oversized mirrors.
Head outside and there’s a roomy pool surrounded by decking. Round at the back terrace, meanwhile, you’ll find the spa. It’s a wood-clad space with a Scandinavian feel to it. And there’s an A to Z of treatments waiting to buff you up for a night out or chill you out the morning after.
As for food, the chef here conjures up Asian fusion cuisine with a Mediterranean twist. And if that’s not up your street, there’s a stellar cast of classic dishes like homemade burgers, too.
If that isn’t enough, this place has one last deal-clincher – its bar. It’s a Smirnoff Experience bar, so there’s a lengthy list of cocktails and live music. What’s more, it’s only open to residents, members and those on the guest list, so it’s a pretty exclusive affair.
