Last minute holidays to Spain – your top 5

First–class nightlife, incredible beaches and flamenco dancing

It's never too late to book a last minute holiday to Spain – so you can be sunning yourself, Sangria in hand, in just a jiffy.

Why you should visit Spain

Spain is classic bucket–and–spade territory. But it's also fantastic for stylish cities, like Barcelona. And with Ibiza and Majorca on the cards, it can lay claim to some of the best nightlife in the world. On a last minute holiday to Spain, there's just enough time to plan what you want to do...

  1. Hit the beach in the Costa del Sol

When it comes to a good old–fashioned beach holiday, the Costa del Sol – translated as the Sunshine Coast – reigns supreme. The golden sand stretches from Nerja in the east all the way to Estepona in the west. One of the most popular beaches is Torremelinos' Playacar Beach. This action–packed stretch has watersports, sunbeds and chiringuitos serving up snacks. If you like your beaches rugged, try Playa Carabeillo in Nerja. This sand–and–shingle number is flanked by cliffs.

  2. it up in Majorca

Majorca is a bit of a VIP destination – Catherine Zeta–Jones and Michael Douglas have a house here. Palma, the island's capital offers up designer shops such as Gucci and Prada on its Avenida Jaume III. If your budget is more suited to cheaper gear, head to the Sunday market in Alcudia. You can rummage through piles of clothes and jewellery, before exploring the old town.

  3. Ride a camel in the Canaries

You can hop aboard these 'ships of the desert' all over the Canary Islands. At the Oasis Park in Fuerteventura, there are more than 450 of them. You can saddle up for a 40–minute trek uphill, and enjoy top–class views over the island. Or, take a ride over Maspalomas' towering sand dunes, which have been shipped in from the Sahara.

  4. Explore cosmopolitan Alicante

Upscale Alicante is a collage of chic designer shopping streets, Renaissance palaces and fountain–filled squares. There's a great photo op in Canalejas Park – a huge carved–stone map of Spain. Later on, join the my–yacht's–bigger–than–yours crowd at the marina. The stylish cocktail bars here are great for celeb spotting.

  5. Live it up in Ibiza

Nowhere does nightlife like Ibiza. Known as the 'White Isle', floating off of Spain's west coast, Ibiza is a world–famous clubbing destination. It regularly pulls in big–name DJs like Fat Boy Slim and Judge Jules. Ibiza Town and San Antonio serve up clubbing titans like Space, Pacha and Café del Mar.
