I stayed at these apartments for 2 weeks from 28 August 2017. My friend and I had a 2 bedroom apartment on the 2nd floor. The apartment was spotlessly clean and the rooms were cleaned most days. We found the reception staff extremely helpful and they responded very quickly when we had a problem with the toilet. The apartments were situated very conveniently for someone, like me, with walking difficulties with several restaurants within a short walking distance. A bar and supermarket were also nearby. I have to recommend the Raj breakfast - it was great value for money and the staff were lovely. We also had excellent meals at Taj Tandoori, Bahia and Nobo. We also went on 2 boat trips and on one saw several dolphins swimming in the sea - a wonderful experience. We thoroughly enjoyed the night out to see the drag artists known as the Music Hall Tavern (MTV) where we had a lovely meal and unlimited drinks until the show began. I would really recommend the Portanovo Apartments as a location for a great holiday and will, hopefully, be returning again soon.More

Good location and close to the beach
This was our first time here and have to say although rooms a bit dated, it was clean and had all we needed, it was close to the beach and we had a fab pool, we found it a relaxing holiday as not too busy and always got a sunbed. complex had good choice of places to eat and nigel was the perfect host in the evening so friendly and made you feel welcome. Restaurants along beach front were lovely and we had some fab meals. No aircon but we knew this and when arrived asked for a fan and they brought one to our room straight away. Our experiance was a good one :-)More
Miss K H,
Good Location but don't stay on the ground floor!
We stayed here for 10 nights, and we were very pleased with the location, being near a range of shops and restaurants, with a supermarket attached to the building. We arrived here late at night and were told by the receptionist that we could have food at the Indian restaurant attached, so we walked round to be told they had stopped serving! When we got to our room on the ground floor we were disappointed to find there was no air con as it was very very warm. Following this we had a cockroach come in our room! After a few days, we asked to move rooms after a number of cockroaches came in, and were told we could move in the morning to the first floor. We went down at 11am as told to the next morning to be told the room was no longer available, to which I became annoyed and eventually they allowed us to move to the first floor. This apartment was much better as it was one of the ones with the huge balconies and we did get a complementary bottle of prosecco which was good. After that situation our stay was good, the pool area is nice and clean and with sufficient sunbeds, no need to reserve with your towel unless you want a specific area or are in a big group, as there were always enough for us as a couple. We found one of the cleaning staff to be quite rude as she got angry at us for taking towels to the pool even though we were told this was fine, and she called reception from our room whilst we were there to moan about us and spoke in Spanish but I can understand the odd word so I knew what she was saying roughly. She passed me the phone and reception asked me where the towels were even though I'd told her! If you visit here then we highly recommend going to the Belgium bar which is attached to the hotel, lovely staff and great cocktails! This is independently run from the hotel but convenient location! Very disappointed about our stay at the Portonovo Apartments. We have been a devoted Thomson Family Life hotel user until this year when we thought we would try self catering for a change and comparison. How disappointing... The apartments were dated, dirty and neglected. We entered the apartment for the first time and found a sofa in the lounge with a small bedding pile on it. Then we went into the bedroom and found a stained cover (we suspect this was bodily fluids) on one of the two single beds. We were shocked as we couldnt find a bed for our son. I went down to reception and was told the sofa was my son's bed (it wasn't a sofa bed, wasn't pull out and was basically just a single piece of foam on the frame of a sofa once you had taken the back cushions off), that we had to make the bed ourself and that this was to be expected. Everyone I have showed a photo of the so called bed agreed that this was a sofa, one you'd expect to find in a conservatory and not a bed, definitely not a bed. Consequently my son barely slept in it meaning my husband had to and it was less then suitable for him so he spent the entire week exhausted. There was no pillow and when I went back down to ask for one I was basically accused of not checking adequately. Getting a pillow was like asking for a beyond reasonable request but we did eventually get one at approx 11pm so my son could sleep as he was exhausted from the flight. We were generally disappointed with the level of cleanliness. The towels were rarely changed. It was very dated and the shower rail broke and it took them 3 days to attend and fix this. In the meantime we had to shower holding the shower head which was very awkward and inconvenient. Now to the pool. We, and every other English person there, was amazed that the hotel staff kept asking for the inflatables to be removed and then a sign went up stating lilos and rings were not permitted. How absurd!!! We have never before been to a family hotel where children are basically told they cannot play in the pool. Unbelievable and a complete anti climax.More
