We are a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children), stayed 7 nights in this horrendous hotel October 2015.
We had many problems during our holiday, such as hot water turning cold very quickly, we all had to have 1 minute showers, that was until the water actually stopped working all together leaving us with no washing facilities at all for 3 days! The boiler completely broke, staff were extremely unhelpful and acted dumb. Staff were difficult to find, hardly ever on reception. We asked to move to another apartment, apparently it was full except for a room on next floor which all 5 of us had to walk to with our soaps, towels, clothes and our special needs little boy who was very anxious and upset about the sudden disruption to our holiday.
The electricity then went off and after countless phone calls to reception and Thomson helpline, the maintenance man came to fix it,
Then, if that wasn't enough, the kids bedroom had a flood coming down from the ceiling, water dripping down the walls, into electric sockets, onto our belongings, big puddles on the floor, the ceiling could have collapsed at any time, resulting in us having a sleepless night and missing our paid excursion the following day, this had wasted 2-3 days of our holiday. Also, the fridge was rattling so loud we could not sleep properly. We did not get an apology from the hotel, they were an absolute waste of time, the hospitality at Portonovo apartments was non existent. I would not wish this hotel on my worst enemy!! I would sum this hotel up in four words..... DISGUSTING HORRIBLE VILE STAFF!!!!
My good point is, the beaches are nice. Don't come here unless you are a pig!!!!More
Perfect location! Nice apartment with full equipment!
We really like Portonovo apartments! Nice view over the harbour- well equipment in kitchen and a perfect balcony! The pool was perfect for swimming- rather big and LOTs of sunbeds! Cleaning perfect like the restaurants around! We will come back! Thanks to all personell and staff!More
3* Apartments No qualms.
This is a 3* apartment complex ideally situated for restaurants, shops and ferries. Fishing boat and the beach, what more could you want? AIR CONDITIONING!
Sadly lacking, the ceiling fans and fans to rent are not enough when the temperatures are hitting the high 20'c or above. Being road side too it can be a bit noisy at night to sleep with windows open.
The 3rd bed?? is just a make do 3" foam mattress on a solid base sofa in the living area which wasn't long enough to accommodate my 5'10 frame. I was either banging my head or feet on the wooden arms. OK for a child, but not for an adult.
Bathroom was fine with good hot water and pressure and it was very clean.
Maid service several days with bed linen and towels changed.More
Just got back from a weeks holiday stopping in this hotel. After travelling in many hotels in and around Puerto Rico over the last 20 years this way by far the worst. We arrived at around 3.30 in the morning to be greeted by a very ignorant grumpy man on reception who grunted here's your key on arrival.
We were situated on the ground floor in an extremely dirty grotty room that hadn't been refurbished in many years.
The room had appliances that due to old age had turned a dark shade of yellow. There were three of us staying in the apartment and we only had enough crockery for two people and had to use glasses to drink hot drinks from.
The bathroom was so dirty and the shower curtain was full of green mould. The smell of the bathroom was so bad we bought disinfectant. The bedroom door was broken and one day locked itself from the inside and my son had to climb through an open window to prise open.
We never saw the maid clean our room and only had one change of towels this was only after we had complained to reception.
We were due to check out at midnight but had to be out of the room for 12 in the afternoon.we had asked for a late checkout room but after being told we had to ask on the day but this wasn't until half nine and then to be told the hotel was full so we had to use a shower room. The power to our room was turned of at ten even though we were supposed to have the room until midday luckily we were all showered and dressed.
The shower room didn't lock and therefore anyone could walk in also they don't provide towels and very rudely tell you upon asking.
The reception staff are extremely ignorant and can not be bothered to conversate with guests.
We did not use the hotel other than to sleep in as we were lucky enough to have family in amadores where the hotel staff kindly agreed for us to use there pool area.
I would not usually write a review as I believe everyone has there own opinion of a hotel however myself and my family absolutely love the island and I feel there are many other options of beautiful hotels where your stay would be far more enjoyable.
I have only rated the one key as the location is great however our room was above the restaurant area and very noisy at around 6.30 am when staff are moving kegs and stock around.
We have just returned for portonovo hotel the holiday was good but was disappointed by a few things. I travelled with my 7yr old and partner We arrived at 12.15am the bed for my son wasn't made we just had folded sheets on the sofa this is something I feel should have been done as they knew someone would be sleeping on it. My partner went to reception to ask if there was anywhere we could buy water and was told there was a vending machine at the bottom of the road. He ended up buying a drink in the Irish bar down the road before buying water from him. A few bottles of water in the room when guests are arriving when shops are shut wouldn't hurt. I read a review before arriving about wires being exposed on electrical fittings and thought they were just unlucky. The socket in our bathroom came away for the wall when I took the plug out. Most of the plug sockets looked badly damaged. I turned the wall light in bedroom round to read my book to find it had come away from the wall. The staff can be quite noisy from the restaurant below when taking out rubbish. There is no air conditioning at all can't imagine what it would be like in july/Aug. Overall we had a good time but this was down to meeting lovely people rather than having nice accommodation More
