Looking out over a marina and the beach, these modern apartments know a thing or two about great views. Pretty panoramas are dished up at the palm-fringed pool and al fresco snack bar, as well as from the room balconies and terraces.
It’s the location that scores top marks here. Overlooking the marina and just a five-minute walk from the beach, these apartments offer up impressive sea views. A ten-minute walk along the coast, meanwhile, takes you to the heart of lively Puerto Rico. It’s packed with shops, bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
Setting aside, the swimming pool is noteworthy. It’s the shape of a triangle and is set facing the marina, which means you can watch the boats bob in and out of the harbour while you relax on the sun terrace or by the snack bar. What’s more, the whole set-up is fringed by palm trees and well-kept lawns, there’s a real air of privacy.
As for the apartments, they’ve recently been renovated so everything’s up to date. Décor is fresh and classic – think whitewashed walls, tiled floors and a mix of wooden and wicker furniture. They all come with satellite TVs and well-equipped kitchens, too, as well as sea or harbour-facing balconies or terraces.
Lastly, when you don’t fancy cooking, the hotel’s pool bar serves up snacks like toasties, omelettes and burgers throughout the day. For proper meals, head down to the marina for tapas and fresh seafood on the harbourside terraces. Or, for more in the way of eateries and after-dinner entertainment, make for Puerto Rico and make a night of it.

With these apartments you get what you pay for there are pros and cons. Rooms - When we arrived we had two apartments booked 145-147 me and my boyfriend went into 145 and the smell of the room was horrible it smelt like someone had been smoking in the room and that no fresh air. We went to reception and was just given some spray for the room which if anything just masked the smell with citrus. We swapped rooms with my boyfriends parents as they were happy to just air the room and put up with the smell. Not the best start although the rooms were clean enough when we arrived they were not cleaned very well by the cleaners the floors were never swept just cleaned with dirty water and the towels were rarely changed. We were next door to locals and were woken at 8.00 in the morning to them playing music with the doors all open although we did complain and never had another problem we wouldn't have minded the music but 8.00 in the morning on holiday wasn't something we wanted to be woken up by. The apartments themselves are in a great location they are right near the beach and only a 10 minute walk to the centre or a taxi journey of around 3 euros. I would highly recommend the Taj palace as the food is lovely and so are the staff had to wait one night for around a hour as it was so busy but was given free ice cream. I don't eat Indian but they cater for everyone I had pasta off the kids menu but in a adults portion and it was lovely. We ate here 3 nights out of 14 and every time the food was lovely and it is reasonably priced. Would also recommend the bar next to the Indian the staff are great, friendly and drinks are reasonably priced. The greedy pig is also great for food and again the staff are lovely. Would highly recommend the dolphin excursion with Thomson we saw loads of dolphins and they came right near the boat it was a amazing experience. If your looking for a base for your holiday and nothing more then these apartments are probably for you as you get what you pay for they are in a great location although could be made so much more better with some work done to the rooms. If you stay here hire a fan we didn't and were so hot as windows in the bedroom are huge and didn't feel comfy leaving them open all night. Id also say get a safe two days before we left someone had some money taken from there rooms. We had a lovely holiday although wouldn't return as we feel due to previous places we have stayed you can stay in apartments that are nicer and cleaner for the same price.More

Very nice holiday
We moved to this hotel after originally booking a hotel nearby and having to pay for an alternative as it was atrocious! We booked on-line the day before and was told we could check in any time after 2.30pm although when we got there, the reception was closed until 4pm so had to wait around which wasn't a massive problem as there was a bar/restaurant right next to reception and the staff were very welcoming. Once reception opened, we found the guy on reception to be very helpful and he clearly directed us to our room. We was elated when we got to the room. It was clean, fresh, modern and like a palace compared to the dive we'd had to move from! We was on the 4th floor and in the past have always experienced problems with lifts in hotels but this was absolutely not a problem here. The view of the marina and beach was lovely and the self catering facilities were the best we've ever had including microwave, coffee maker, toaster, toastee maker and much more. Towels and beds were changed every other day and apartment cleaned thoroughly. The pool was a decent size and always sun beds available. The main commercial shopping centre was within walking distance with everything under one roof and nice restaurants around the marina and along the sea front. I would definitely recommend this hotel to families as was very family orientated. Really enjoyed our stay hereMore

we have just returned from the portonovo apts. after staying a week, on arrival we was not impressed with the receptionist. we had to wait 10 mins as there was no one on reception, we had been travelling since 12 midday and arrived 12.30am, after driving to madrid airport from murcia where we live, so a long tiring day, eventually he came along, took our name. did not ask for any I.D, then told us to "take lift" to number 2, which we did,he then appeared at the lift and pointed down a walkway and said"number 3",,we had no idea where we was going as we was in room 332 and the rooms on that level did not go to the number we wantedand had to ask a lady who was staying there where to go, so not imoressed with the reception guy, our room was lovely and clean and was cleaned everyday and towels and bedding changed. the pool is fab, but, notices say no reserving the sunbeds...at 8am all the sunbeds had been reserved and noticed that people was just walking in from the street using the pool.!! however, we didnt really use the pool as the beach is so close, the bar at the poolside is lovely and welcoming, the staff was brilliant, security was fab, everything about these apts are great, underneath the apts is a bar called yoi and bennys, great food in there , breakfasts is lovely and the sirloin steaks dinners are a must, beautiful food, and steak for 10 euros, fab meal a definite must..we went to puerto rico beach and loved it, albeit it a bit rocky underfoot in the water, we got a taxi and went to the next beach ..Amadores. this beach is the best, just under 5 euro for a taxi to get there, taxis are on the doorstep of the apts, and was worth every penny, 2 sunloungers and parasol for the day 11 euros, beach is lined with shops, bars and restaraunts, an absolute must if you visit rico. 5 mins walk is the shopping complex. so many shops bars and eating places. great place, we hired a car for the day, 40 euros, and visited crocodile park in aguimes. again worth every penny. beware of Anfi holiday info, they talk you into visiting anfi del mar, free in a taxi, and then get free gifts, free passes toa theme park worth 70euros...this is a time share scam so dont be sucked in,we sussed them out and did not visit with them, however we did visit the area when we had the car and found a rocky sort of beach with apartments still beingbuilt. the beach was described as the best around, so beware of these anfi reps.!!! BE extra careful if u want an alarm call, we asked for a 5am alarm call from a really nice guy on reception, he confirmed 3 times for 5am. the call came through at 6.15, by the miserable couldnt be bothered receptionist who dealt with us on arrival. no one on reception when we was leaving at 6.30am. but over all, the apts are fab, worth every penny and would def go again, oh and room 332 has a huge tree blocking the view, no A/C in rooms, just a fan in lounge which was adequate but in the bedroom you could not have the window open due to the noise of the road and in temps of 30 plus was very hard to sleep because it was so hot. have a few beers in the bar at the side of the pool ti make you sleep, lovely fab staff and atmosphere and very welcoming in this bar.More

Needs to be improved
We have just returned from two weeks staying at Porto Novo. We went last year and the hotle was great but unfortunatley this year it had gone down hill. Towels and bedding only changed once a week which is appalling when you need to shower everyday due to hot weather. Apartment was hardly cleaned balcony not swept just a disgrace also building work going on so to relax by the pool was a no no. Such a shame as I would have recommened Porto Novo to anyone. Can't fault the restaurant below Taj Palace wonderful food best Indian food we have ever tasted. They really need to get there act together.More
