These 1-bedroom apartments with their white walls and colourful soft furnishings can sleep up to three. They come with a twin bedroom and a single sofa-bed in the lounge. The kitchenette with two electric rings and a microwave or oven is ideal for making snacks. There's maid service five times a week.

Great location, wiring a bit dodgy, tv sat signal buffers (a lot). Sometimes we got itv, sometimes not!
I did see a few roaches but not in our apartment. Our apartment was kept very clean.
The heat in the bedroom was so hot, badly needs a ceiling fan like in the lounge, We had to risk having the window open every night leading to possibility of being robbed at night, due to it opening onto the rear passage way. I also would sleep with ice packs to try to get some sleep.
The lounge fan has a winter or summer mode by the dangly leads, ensure that the blades rotate clockwise by adjusting the switch on the fan.
The Taj indian handy for the free wifi.
Great views of harbour. Good size pool and handy use of shower by the reception on the last day, luggage can be left in an unlocked and attended room next to reception, we went to add something to our cases, nobody was at reception, so wouldn't leave anything valuable.
We found the best restaurants by the beach, non beach side.
Gloria Palace Amadores Spa day (3 hour experience is Ab Fab , â¬23 plus short cab.)
Wigwam makes the best cocktails but was closed for our last few days, tech reasons.
There are 2 young black cats on the walk to the spar, they are under the bushes by the canal, just to the right after crossing the zebra by the portonovo supermarket.
1 is really poorly, we kept feeding her fish, but don't think she will live much longer! : (
Maybe we can all help her survive and keep updates to see if she does ? She loves fish!!More

After reading some of the reviews, we were open minded about the apartments. When we arrived at around 1pm we were greeted & seen to quickly. I enquired about a safe & that too was sorted quickly â¬26 for 2 weeks plus â¬3 deposit.(the safe isn't huge & you can just fit a iPad mini in it along with a couple of phones, money & passports). We were then given directions to our apartment, which were easy to follow. Having arrived in our room, we were happy with our accommodation, a 2 bed apartment. They are looking a little tired but they have everything we needed for a self catering holiday. The beds were a little on the hard side, as was the settee/5th bed & we could have done with another pillow each, but we managed. There was no bath but the shower was roomy, which was fine for us. We had a decent size balcony with a big table & chairs that overlooked the beach side but we could also see the Marina, great for watching the boats go in & out. The cleaners came about 5 times per week & changed towels & bedding about 3 times a week.
The apartments are in a great location for all the shops & bars, and all the usual beachfront activities. You could also get the ferry to Mogan for â¬11 return for adults & â¬5.50 return for children.(Mogan is a pretty little port & worth a visit). The main shopping centre is around a 20 min walk away but there are shops & restaurants on the doorstep. The Taj Palace is a great indian restaurant, the food was fab and the Tanishq Bar was a lovely place to sit in the evenings with live music a couple of times a week, these are both on site. We also walked up the hill (5 mins) where there are more restaurants & an Irish bar & supermarket. We really enjoyed the Toro Bravo, the food was lovely, especially for me as I'm a vegetarian, there was a great choice & all at a reasonable price and the staff were very attentive. Wifi was available in all the restaurants, just ask for the password.
There was a bit of a downside with the location though, and thats with the road outside. This, obviously, is not something the hotel can do anything about but it can be very noisy with the cars, lorries & buses going past & some people being very loud when they come out of the bar opposite. As there is no air conditioning, we did have our windows open, which didn't help with the noise. The bedroom at the back of the apartment was quieter. For us the location positives far outweighed the negatives with the beach over the road & the nice pool with everything close at hand. Talking of the pool, I saw it being cleaned a few times but as others have mentioned, if you want a bed (some of which have seen better days) then you need to be down by 7:30 am as people put their towels on to reserve them and yes, I too saw beds going nearly all day without anyone using them, which is annoying & selfish. We did have some locals come in at the weekend, but once a few people had complained to the reception staff, they came out & got rid of them.
All in all we had a lovely holiday & if you don't mind a bit of noise, I'd recommend these apartments and at the end of the day, you get what you pay for.More
Tired and in need of a total refurbishment
Having been to Puerto Rico on a number of times, we found the marina by far the best place to stay and within easy access of the shopping center/bars/restaurants. We arrived at the Portonovo at around 11.30pm, only to be met at reception with a notice that informed us " Back in 15 minutes" Not what we wanted so late in the evening and after a long day.
However, someone did arrive and we were booked in. And as per instructions from the travel agent, we requested a late check out as we would not be flying back to the UK until 11.30pm, the receptionist, said, "yes, this will not be a problem!" He handed over our keys and just basically said," go there, turn this way, that way and follow the numbers!"
As always we took the offer of the safety deposit box at 25 Euros a week. As per request, we had been allocated a room off the bottom floor, however, the view and the sun were almost totally blocked by palm trees. The room was clean and tidy, but on getting ready for bed, looked like had not been dusted and on closer inspection of all doors and windows, evidence was there that on previous occasions, the apartment had been broken into or attempts had been made, and on one door up to 8 goes had been had and the frame was buckled where something bigger had been used to try and gain access.
The pillows( 1 each on each bed plus a spare) were very substandard and the next day I had to request another pillow and I was informed that as soon as the maid was around, this would occur. I had to chase this up again from the said grumpy old man and it seemed that whenever we asked something of him, it was bothersome.
Unfortunately, we had arrived in the middle of a huge heatwave and getting to sleep on a night was a problem until during the early hours when it cooled enough to drop off to sleep. Waking up the next day, the bed stunk of stale body odors and it wasn't until I realised later in the holiday that my heat was probably reactivating an already badly smelling mattress. We were determined however, not to let this spoil our stay as we love Gran Canaria and Puerto Rico especially.
As the heatwave continued, another holiday maker mentioned you could hire a fan for your room. So we went to ask about getting one for the last 8 days or so. It was going to cost us 100 Euros for the rest of the holiday. For that, you could buy 5 bench fans from one of the shops in the main shopping area. So we declined the offer.
After a few more nights, the heatwave broke and the evening temperature returned to what we expected.
Also, in the room was a TV, not that it bothered us but yet again, you had to pay for the remote so you could view what channels were available.
The amenities incorporated within the bounds of the hotel were very good for adults. The bars were reasonable, however, there was a Supermarket less than 5 minutes away where you could buy food and drink for half the price what you pay in either bars. The food was very good, a breakfast was 3 Euros or you could go bigger for 6 Euros and again, not a bad price. The same bar, after 6pm, became an Indian restaurant and the food was one of the best meals we had had whilst staying on the island. The staff in both bars were very friendly and always helpful.
Both bars looked directly over the pool which we saw cleaned only the one time in our 14 days staying here. Cigarette ends littered the floor under some beds and were there for a few days before being removed or being blown away.
Some of the sunbeds were in dire need of repair and in a cupboard near the toilets, you could get cushions which helped with the comfort while lying in the sun. Again, some of these were filthy and in need of a good wash. Signs were around the pool, regarding the reserving of these beds by draping towels over a bed, saying it was forbidden, yet some beds had towels over them and remained unused for up to 7 hours before the users arrived either from a day at the beach or being out for the day.
In the last few days, getting a bed to lie on while in the sun, was neigh on impossible and by 8am, almost 95% of beds that were usable, most had been reserved. Some remaining empty until well after 5pm. This was mentioned by other people staying at the hotel and sometimes action was taken and the towels were removed.
Be also warned that at weekends, the pool (s) become "open" to locals that seem to just turn up and enjoy what we were actually paying for. I witnessed a group of young males ( around 8) followed me through a locked door that only residents were supposed to have access too and then into the pool area, just to use the pool. I also witness a group of young females, enter the pool area and observed no beds available, promptly turned around and headed for the Morosol suites.
A few days before we were due to leave, after being directed by hotel staff to return a day before we were due to leave, we inquired about a late check out, again stating that we didn't fly until 11.30pm and having the room, would be a bonus. They stated that some groups had requested 2 rooms together and that our room and the adjoining room were going to be needed but they should be able to accommodate us and to come back on the day we leave.
On our final day, my wife went to reception to ask about keeping the room on ( for 25 Euros, check out was at 5pm instead of 12 noon) of which we were happy to pay, only to be met by grumpy man, who said he had just arrived and to come back later saying he wasn't ready yet, despite the sign saying that reception was open at 9am, it was gone 9.10am. I, myself went to ask about the room being kept on at around 9.45am only to be told the room was booked out and we could safely leave our cases with them and use the showers available near reception, while we spent the last day of the holiday however we chose.
Our checkout time was 12 noon , but we were just about ready anyway by 10am, when the maid arrived to clean the room ready for the next guests.
When leaving, the showers were Ok but in a toilet area that wasn't very private and we had to use the towels we had used that morning on getting up. And if you were not quick enough, the lights went out leaving you in the dark, forcing you come out the shower cubicle to activate the lights again
This could be an excellent place to stay if it was refurbished, however it was certainly not worth what we actually paid. For an extra £100 or so, you could get a room in the Morisol Suites, less than 200m away, where air conditioning is present in all room for a smaller fee of 25 Euros a week and the pool area is much cleaner and beds in much better condition
This hotel does have a number of guests that are part of the holiday time share scheme and also, quite a lot of locals use the hotel and its facilities at weekends and this can make for a very noisy stay and on a number of nights we were awoken by people returning to their apartments in the very early hours of the morning .
The apartment below us must have had 2-3 ( I counted 6 adults and at least 5 children )families staying in the one apparent, as I witnessed one person carry some of the mattresses that were to be used on the sunbeds into the rooms.
The hotel does not have WiFi, but you can use the WiFi in either of the bars for free
I don't think we will be going back to this hotel in the very near futureMore
Fantastic spot close to beach and marina, Wigwam Belgian bar is under the right-hand side apartments where you can enjoy a drink and chat with the friendly bar staff. Rooms are a good size and reasonable prices, onsite restaurant and bar where breakfast is ok but recommend eating out in the marina or at the local beach bars for lunch/dinner. Been twice and will go again for sure.More
