The 1-bedroom apartments are simply furnished. They come with a twin bedroom and an extra sofa-bed in the lounge. There's a kitchenette with 2 electric rings and a microwave or oven which is ideal for making snacks. For some outside space, there's a balcony or terrace with views of the sea.
In the 2-bedroom apartments, you'll have sea views from the balcony. They come with 2 twin bedrooms and a sofa-bed in the lounge. There's also a kitchenette with 2 electric rings and a microwave or oven which is ideal for making snacks.
Just got back from a weeks holiday stopping in this hotel. After travelling in many hotels in and around Puerto Rico over the last 20 years this way by far the worst. We arrived at around 3.30 in the morning to be greeted by a very ignorant grumpy man on reception who grunted here's your key on arrival.
We were situated on the ground floor in an extremely dirty grotty room that hadn't been refurbished in many years.
The room had appliances that due to old age had turned a dark shade of yellow. There were three of us staying in the apartment and we only had enough crockery for two people and had to use glasses to drink hot drinks from.
The bathroom was so dirty and the shower curtain was full of green mould. The smell of the bathroom was so bad we bought disinfectant. The bedroom door was broken and one day locked itself from the inside and my son had to climb through an open window to prise open.
We never saw the maid clean our room and only had one change of towels this was only after we had complained to reception.
We were due to check out at midnight but had to be out of the room for 12 in the afternoon.we had asked for a late checkout room but after being told we had to ask on the day but this wasn't until half nine and then to be told the hotel was full so we had to use a shower room. The power to our room was turned of at ten even though we were supposed to have the room until midday luckily we were all showered and dressed.
The shower room didn't lock and therefore anyone could walk in also they don't provide towels and very rudely tell you upon asking.
The reception staff are extremely ignorant and can not be bothered to conversate with guests.
We did not use the hotel other than to sleep in as we were lucky enough to have family in amadores where the hotel staff kindly agreed for us to use there pool area.
I would not usually write a review as I believe everyone has there own opinion of a hotel however myself and my family absolutely love the island and I feel there are many other options of beautiful hotels where your stay would be far more enjoyable.
I have only rated the one key as the location is great however our room was above the restaurant area and very noisy at around 6.30 am when staff are moving kegs and stock around.

We have just returned for portonovo hotel the holiday was good but was disappointed by a few things. I travelled with my 7yr old and partner We arrived at 12.15am the bed for my son wasn't made we just had folded sheets on the sofa this is something I feel should have been done as they knew someone would be sleeping on it. My partner went to reception to ask if there was anywhere we could buy water and was told there was a vending machine at the bottom of the road. He ended up buying a drink in the Irish bar down the road before buying water from him. A few bottles of water in the room when guests are arriving when shops are shut wouldn't hurt. I read a review before arriving about wires being exposed on electrical fittings and thought they were just unlucky. The socket in our bathroom came away for the wall when I took the plug out. Most of the plug sockets looked badly damaged. I turned the wall light in bedroom round to read my book to find it had come away from the wall. The staff can be quite noisy from the restaurant below when taking out rubbish. There is no air conditioning at all can't imagine what it would be like in july/Aug. Overall we had a good time but this was down to meeting lovely people rather than having nice accommodation More
Good hotel. Great location
Stayed here for a week towards the end of October and had a great time. Reception open 24hrs and were always helpful when we needed information. Apartment was a good size with kitchen/living area separate bedroom and bathroom. Kitchen has all the basics like kettle, fridge freezer and oventop. It also comes with TV in living area that has some basic channels. Bedroom also has a ceiling to floor mirror with a wardrobe behind it. Balcony had a great view looking over the marina. We were on the second floor so you need to have an apartment on second or third floors to get the view. Bottom ones are more like ground level. Apartment was cleaned everyday apart from Sunday. There is also a great bar next to the hotel pool called tanishq which is run by a great guy and was a good way to relax and have a few quiet drinks by the pool. Pool area was always clean and tidy. The only reason I've not put 5stars is that there is no air con in the apartments which can make for very hot nights. You can hire a fan from reception for 15 euros a week but these just push the hot air around. Hotel is also in a great location at the bottom of the hill. 2min walk from beach, 10 min walk to main shopping centre. Overall a great hotel with great location. Just need to sort that air con.More
Just back from a stay here in Portonova apartments. After a rocky start where there was a mix up with our booking, which meant we had to spend our first night in a room with no bed sheets, or towels, it was eventually sorted next day, where they apologised with bottle of champagne . The apartments are nice and clean, but no air condition in bed room, which I found very hard to sleep without. I rented a fan for 15 euro for the week which done the job. The staff are just lovely, food from restaurant was delicious. Lovely bar at pool, where we had nice few drinks with very friendly bar man. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here, as we found the guests here very friendly and mixed well.More
Not the worse
Just back from Puerto Rico and the PortoNovo Apartments, this was the 2nd time we have stayed here and I think for the price paid they are good value for Money. The rooms are basic and could do with a refurb. No Air Con and very poor lighting in the bedrooms. Beds were comfy and sheets and pillows clean. Basic catering in the apartments. Had a few Cockroaches and even a tiny Lizard but you can get them in any Hotel here. Pool area is nice but a lot of the loungers are ripped and rusty. Pool looks clean but quite dirty on the bottom. The Bar at the pool is run by the people who run the Taj Palace Indian restaurant which is just a fantastic place to eat. They do fantastic English Breakfasts and snacks all day and Indian food at Night. It was busy everynight and if you try it you will see why. Lots to do night and day here, Puerto Rico Beach just outside Portonovo and you must visit Amodores Beach (25 minute coastal walk or 4 Euros by Taxi). Head to Mogan by Ferry from the Marina opposite PortoNovo on a Friday for the large Market. There are 2 shopping centres in Puerto Rico, The Europa is up on the hill and quite small, The main on is the Puerto Rico shopping centre which is about a 15 minute walk, it's full of shops, Pubs and restaurants. Overall Puerto Rico is a great place to stay and PortoNovo Apartments is a good basic well located Hotel.More
