Marina Suites

The seafront infinity pool turns heads at this hotel, and the centre of Puerto Rico is a short stroll away.

Just a stone's throw from the beach and moments from Puerto Rico’s stylish marina, this hotel is in a first-class spot. It’s having a smart new look in time for July 2015 – the buffet restaurant, pool area and rooms will be modernised and refreshed.

All the suites come with a view of the sea or marina, plus a roomy balcony or terrace from which to enjoy it. You’ll get a mini kitchen, complete with all the essentials – including a microwave and coffeemaker. Factor in a separate bedroom and a living area with a sofa-bed and there’s plenty of space to spread out.

Well located clean and friendly at affordable prices.

Friendly helpful staff, lovely pool area, good food at reasonable prices, spacious clean suites, most overlooking the marina with TV lounge/kitchen area, bath and shower, free wifi in the room, comfortable beds, a short walk to the local beach, courtesy room and luggage facility for late departures, difficult to find fault with our nine day stay.More

Overall very good, just a few niggles

Just back from a week stay at Marina Suites. We stayed in a standard room on the third floor, but had a nice view of the marina from our large balcony. Furnishing is quite functional, but the room have all the basics you may expect. The good: - nice location, at the end of the marina, just a few minutes from the beach - all the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful - lovely infinity pool overlooking the sea - plenty of sun beds, never had to search for a space - including some quieter zones away from the pool - excellent breakfast, good variety and quality and children well looked after - reasonable bar and snack prices (by hotel standards) - free wifi, not fast enough to stream but solid connection for internet use - we had a family birthday during our stay and they left a nice little note plus a small cake in the fridge - range of bars and restaurants within short walking distance - few English speaking channels for kids on the TV The bad: - rooms can be a little noisy, bedrooms have large glass windows that front on to the corridors so pick up every little noise from guests passing by, we were also woken a few times from coaches and deliveries very early morning (2 to 3 am) - it is a pet hate of mine when hotels leverage additional charges and Marine Suites has some bad examples of this (7 euro per week for a choice from the pillow menu, 14 euros a week plus deposit for using the in room safe, 20 euro deposit for a pool towel plus 1.50 per exchange for a clean one, extra charge for DVD player etc) The ugly: - balcony lighting is automated and cannot be controlled in the room, as the curtains are not 'black out quality' anyone using the sofa bed will suffer from a bright halo of light all night around the patio doors - there is a 'no reservation' policy for sun beds which says towels will be removed from unoccupied beds after 30 mins - the hotel makes absolutely no effort to enforce this, however. There was one couple who started reserving beds on our first couple of days and this behaviour spread quickly, by our last day when we came down early at 0830 many of the 'prime spots' were reserved and still empty when we left to pack at 1100. If you are going to have a policy please police it!More

Another great stay at marina suites Puerto Rico. Travelled with partner his mum and my sister for a week. I really can't say enough about this place, wine & chocolates on arrival a birthday cake in fridge exceptional staff and food was amazing. Nothing is too much trouble for them they are by far a great bunch of people a special thanks to the lady who cleaned our double suite every day. It's a must for anyone visiting Puerto Rico. See you all again soon xxMore

nice place..pool good....loungers all on top of each other....not enough space....lifts a bit not great....not much effort put into food prepared to walk to get to good restaurants....plenty of good irish and english bars and restaurants within 15 minutes walk......rooms good....but expensive......nice walk to shop for water and daily bits and pieces...hotel must consider opening small shop for daily bits..even on limited hours...say 10am to 2pm.......and again from 5pm to 9pm.....could do very well....More

Whilst the location is good and the rooms are of a decent (ish) standard, this is by no means a four star establishment. Why not? If you want to use the safe in your room, you pay extra. If you want to use the hotels pool towels, you pay extra. You get the idea. Wifi is a joke with limited connection anywhere and none by the pool. The noise from the corridors very loud where footsteps or even a hushed conversation can be heard with alarming clarity. As the bedrooms of each suite are on the corridor, there is no escaping early risers or late comers. Also, any movement of the balcony furniture in any room is enough to wake even the deepest of sleepers. The breakfast is buffet style and whilst the staff are great, the fayre is average. No fresh coffee, just machines and nothing cooked to order. The evening meal is also buffet style but after checking out the food, I didn't believe that €18 was good value for the offering provided. The pool area is lovely, although crowded with sun beds which can be a little tricky to navigate especially when busy, and the hotel deem it necessary to play music over a poolside speaker for the majority of the day which spoils the atmosphere somewhat. There is a great beach nearby (about 5 mins walk) which is busy at weekends, but reasonable at other periods. You do have to rent the sun beds but if arriving after 2pm the guys didn't seem to bother about collecting money. Many restaurants nearby although the closer to the marina, the more expensive they are. The town is a little 'chavtastic' with tat shops galore, with many bars catering for most tastes from burgers to paella. All in all, an ok place to stay if you don't mind the noise and the intermittent wifi. I do, so won't be returning. More
