Marina Suites

The seafront infinity pool turns heads at this hotel, and the centre of Puerto Rico is a short stroll away.

Just a stone's throw from the beach and moments from Puerto Rico’s stylish marina, this hotel is in a first-class spot. It’s having a smart new look in time for July 2015 – the buffet restaurant, pool area and rooms will be modernised and refreshed.

All the suites come with a view of the sea or marina, plus a roomy balcony or terrace from which to enjoy it. You’ll get a mini kitchen, complete with all the essentials – including a microwave and coffeemaker. Factor in a separate bedroom and a living area with a sofa-bed and there’s plenty of space to spread out.

Brilliant hotel

stayed here with my boyfriend for a week from April 18th. The hotel itself was lovely really nice decor had a nautical theme throughout- when we first arrived the restaurant in front of the hotel was a bit of an eyesore when we were initially allocated a room on the 1st floor! we changed rooms to 518 on the 5th floor.....much better! views were amazing and rooms (no matter what floor) are massive. The staff were lovely we changed from half board to self catering just to explore a bit more (although still not received the refund in cost!) the bar staff were my favorite extremely nice guys and good fun. The area itself is nice but would recommend visiting other areas like Anfi and Puerto Mogan as I found Puerto Rico had no real canarian restaurants or too much to do. The pool area and infinity pool are also real winners- just stunning. The only things to improve and this is only to be really picky would be slightly more comfy beds, awareness on entertainment as we missed a show we wanted to see and lunch at the outside restaurant (my pasta on 2 days was very watery.) Would recommend anyone stay here families, couples, friends as the hotel has everything but just would explore the neighboring towns as there are markets and shows in just a 5 min taxi!More

Something is missing

This hotel is spotlessly clean and has a nice feel to it. We have stayed here twice and both times have had a nice relaxing holiday. The location is great as you can walk to the main area but not too noisy at night. I can't help but feel they could improve it, there is no personal touch, you rarely see any staff. If like us you are traveling with anyone under 16 they are going to be extremely bored. We always take our own games, I would advise others to. Food is expensive at the hotel but you get what you pay for. Overall I think this hotel is a lovely Place to stay, looking back I'm just not sure it's worth the moneyMore

Family of 4 -Travelled Easter 2015

Stayed Easter 2015 with 2 children under 7. Spotless, modern hotel. Excellent sized rooms and well equipped. Disney channel for kids nice touch. Service friendly and always available. Food good and well priced, but we stayed room only and ate out most nights as cheap to eat out in Puerto Rico. Children's entertainment was good and kids enjoyed mini-disco. Overall very good hotel and good value for money. One word of caution, check the resort is for you, because Puerto Rico isn't for all tastes. If you go, make the 25 min walk to Amadores for the beach and day restaurants, much better than Puerto Rico. Good, genuine 4 star and would recommend .More

Try for an apartment / room at least on the 5th floor or above.

We were in a two bed roomed apartment for a week in April (family of three adults, plus a 5 year old and a 4 year old.) Rooms were spotless and the hotel had put an extra bed in the twin room which meant we did not have anyone sleeping in the living area which was great. We were on the Marina side of the hotel with stunning views but the balcony got no sun until very late in the day and so it was very difficult to dry the children's bathing suits and clothes. The "paid for" safe did not work but was fixed when reported. More concerning with young children, the locking mechanism on the sliding doors to the balcony required fixing. The fridge was problematic, freezing all liquids, or not cooling things if we switched it down.Eventually we learned its little ways! Other small problems like no shampoo in the bathrooms and no dish towels in the kitchen were also sorted out. We had booked half board which was good value. The breakfast choice was adequate although it would have been better to have proper tea or coffee served in pots at the table. We were glad to have taken tea and coffee with us and in fact took this down to breakfast since the ones on offer were disappointing. The fresh orange was however excellent. The dinner buffet had an adequate choice and was of an acceptable standard. It suited us since we did not want to have to take the children out in the evening, especially since they loved the mini disco which started at a sensible time, 8pm, unlike in some continental hotels.Great job by the Kids Club Staff.Really fun. I would echo other reviewers statements about the lack of space between loungers at the pool and the number of towels lying for hours whilst people could not find a lounger to sit on. The pools were quite cold for "heated" pools. The kids club was very well received by both the 5 year old and 4 year old. The staff were very caring and both children liked them and looked forward to going in the mornings. But I would like to make a few suggestions that might make the club even better. Aprons are a necessity for activities such as t shirt painting, with paint that does not come out even when washed repeatedly with the stain remover suggested by the staff. Parents beware, take some really old clothes and ask what the activities are going to be. Also, although water is available, young children need to be reminded to drink in this heat. Above all, I would either give every child who attends, a "certificate", or better still scrap these altogether. We were not alone in having to comfort bewildered and upset children on the occasions when they were told they were not winners- often without any clear idea as to why. Even though they did sometimes get a certificate this was not over all a happy experience to have on holiday.Maybe a little badge for being a member of the club might be better if they must have something. All this apart, we would certainly go back to Marina Suites. It is a good hotel for families. It is a modern airy hotel with spacious rooms. The Reception staff were helpful and the cleaners kept everything very clean. One problem though was the fact that there are only three small lifts and for most of the time we were there only two were working. Not great on upper floors especially with a double buggy! It is within walking distance of the local shops and cafés. Unlike many of the other local hotels it is on the flat and not at the top of a hill or up lots of steps. The local beach was close enough for little children although we had our double buggy for the tired return journey. There is a lovely cafe/ bar on the beach at the opposite side of the bay which is quieter and we ended up going there every afternoon for the week. We would certainly recommend the hotel and the little town for a weeks break.More

Avoid at all costs

Absolutely appalling behaviour by this hotel. We booked two weeks based on a wonderful previous stay and planned a dream holiday. Six weeks before the stay I revived an email stating that they were closing for refurbishment and offered us rooms at an inferior property. We had three disabled travellers with us and this new suggested property was up over 150 steps which was not possible or suitable. We were told we could have a refund but as we had already booked flights we had to quickly find somewhere else. On searching for a new property we discovered that the Marina Suites was still taking bookings for our second week and claimed to be fully booked for our first. This means we were lied to for some reason. I can only assume that it's one of two situations either they over booked and decided to cancel us or they decided that as we had two under occupancy rooms they could make more money with someone else. We will never ever book here again and recommend others look elsewhere as there is a good chance if your not Spanish you will have your booking canceled at short notice.More
