Marina Suites

Just a stone's throw from the beach and moments from the marina, this good-looking hotel is in a first-class spot. Sea views come courtesy of the huge pool area and modern apartments. Meanwhile, the buffet restaurant lays on international theme nights.

This place is the epitome of contemporary chic. Think clean lines, big windows and fresh white walls, all bordered by rows of exotic palms. And its location is just as impressive. Pulled up against Puerto Rico’s stylish marina and just footsteps from the beach, it’s surrounded by great scenery and restaurants. Plus, when you want to explore Puerto Rico itself, the town centre is just a ten-minute walk away.

If you’re staying put, meanwhile, there’s a fantastic pool scene at the hotel. It’s a huge sea-facing rectangular number framed by a wide sun terrace. Pull up a lounger and relax here or grab a table at the poolside bar and order a spot of lunch – every dish comes with a side-order of sea views.

Head inside, meanwhile, and the laidback theme continues. All the suites come with a view of the sea or marina, plus a roomy balcony or terrace from which to enjoy it. You’ll get a mini kitchen, too, complete with all the essentials – including the all-important microwave and coffeemaker. Factor in a separate bedroom and a living area with a sofa-bed and there’s plenty of space to spread out. In-room extras like air-conditioning and satellite TV complete the picture.

On the food front, there's the buffet eatery offering a mix of international favourites, regional specialities. For an extra special dining experience, check out the regular theme nights. We’re talking flavoursome evenings courtesy of Mexico, China and Spain..

A pleasent stay

This was our fourth time staying at The Marina Suites. I have two young daughters ( a 2yr old and 2 month old) and the suites are very good if staying with young children. The suites are very spacious and tastefully decorated. The kitchen is well equipped if you choose to dine in which we never have. The walls are a tad on the thin side so can be a little noisy but we didn't really find it a problem. Breakfast is good with a reasonable choice of cooked and continental. We have never had dinner at the hotel so can't comment on this. The pool area is very nice. They have a good size infinity pool and also a small kids pool. Be aware that people come down early to save sun loungers! The kids club is good and they have a nice little park area with a slide and sandpit. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful apart from the reception staff. They are just not overly friendly which isn't a problem but as a frequent travellers to America and also being friendly Brits ourselves we are used to a good morning/good evening as you enter and leave the hotel. They barely acknowledge you as you enter and leave. The hotel is in a nice spot overlooking the harbour and it's a nice little 10 minute walk to the beach. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in the Puerto Rico area.More

Marina Suites

We have just returned from the Marina Suites last night. Weather was fantastico. 31 degrees on Thursday. As other reviews have said, it is a very modern and fresh hotel. Staff all very good, with the exception of one waiter/barman (you know who you are!) Rooms are large, but walls thin! More of this below! Great views out over the port, the beach in the distance and Puerto Rico bay in general. We were on 5th floor and the holiday was completely ruined by a child from hell next door. Running up and down the long corridor in the rooms to the balcony at 7.00 am every morning, screaming and crying every 10 minutes. Also some knocking on the wall (think he/she was playing with a toy hammer or something. Unless it was the husband attempting escape) Sounded like he/she was actually in our room! not great when you're on holiday to relax and have some lie in's. I felt so sorry for the people in the room below, as the constant running footsteps must have been fantastic at that time in the morning above their heads. We complained twice but an alternative room could not be obtained. The hotel staff did suggest that they would speak to the guests, but it didn't improve unfortunately. We did receive a few small gifts from the hotel (wine, biscuits etc) as a gesture, which was a nice touch, but to be honest, we just wanted less noise. Pool area was good and the infinity pool itself is beautiful. The boatyard below will occasionally be using angle grinders, drilling etc, very noisy at times (once @ 11.00pm on a Sat night) and also spray painting and the smell that goes with that. Quite pleasant @ times (dulled the memories of the child from hell a little) if that's your thing, want to get higher baby!) Food very very good. Plenty of varied choice and the meats were always of top quality. Good entertainment and it was disappointing though that there wasn't always a lot of people there to participate, as one previous review states. All in all a very good hotel, good staff, good location, good food, good amenities but with terrible guests in room 519.More

Amazing hotel, wonderful experience

My family and I returned recently from an amazing holiday at Marina Suites. We had a great experience from the moment we walked through the lobby door, it was clean and spacious. I think that this hotel must select their staff in every area very carefully as they could not do enough for us and made my whole family feel special. The lifeguard looked after my son when he cut his foot on the first day and they were friends for duration of our stay. The pool is the nicest I have ever been in and swimming to the edge and watching the boats come into the harbour is breath-taking. The location is perfect as you far enough away from the town to relax but near enough to go if you would like to explore. The only thing that was not so great is the crowning around the pool, but I understand that it is because it is such a beautiful place to relax. We plan to come back soon and my family and friends may go to on our recommendation. Thanks to everyone who made our holiday so special, I only know one persons name to thank and that is Jose, his team was great but so was everyone else. Karen MMore

Perfect!!

We stayed in Marina Suites for 10 days in August as a family of 5. From the minute we arrived at the hotel we were impressed; it definitely lives up to the excellent reviews. We chose to stay self-catering, and despite what some people said in the reviews we read before we left, the facilities were more than adequate. On holiday I don't intend to cook 3 course meals!! We had cereal, eggs, bacon and coffee every morning and baguettes for lunch most days. The staff were excellent, everyone we encountered during our stay delivered first class service; one of the barmen even knew my son's favourite smoothie by the end of our stay!! The kids club was a huge hit with our 5 year old; his first question every morning was, "When does the Kids Club start?!!" The structure of the kids club was different to other hotels; it reminded me of pre-school where the children could play with various toys of their choice. They also painted and made lovely masterpieces to take home!! After the structured play there were usually pool games. The rooms were spotless and exactly as pictured: lovely, airy and spacious. The views were my favourite part - I usually sat on the balcony reading and soaking up the view while our two year old had her afternoon nap. I loved watching the cruises sailing past; especially the music cruise on Mondays!! As there are so many excellent restaurants within a 5 to 10 minute walk we only ate in the restaurant once. It was very nice; probably nicer than any buffet in previous hotels we have stayed in. I would recommend the smaller Olas Centre just under the bridge and up the hill from the Marina Suites. It wasn't nearly as tacky as the larger commercial centre and the restaurants were first class. We ate at La Mattina, Cosi com Sei, El Gaitero and Toro Brava, and they were all excellent. There were also some criticisms that the pool area was too packed, but if you want a quiet area the sofa beds near the hot tubs were usually free. They were so much nicer than normal sun loungers anyway!! The evening entertainment and mini-disco were very good; it was disappointing though that there wasn't always a lot of people there to participate. The price of the drinks may have something to do with that as they were more expensive than the local restaurants. All in all we had a fab holiday; in fact 10 days was too short!! We have also done something that we would never normally do, and we have booked to return to the Marina Suites next year - for 2 weeks this time!! I think that says more than any review in my book!! We had looked at other hotels but the Marina Suites just couldn't be topped!! More
