A central postcode and a great pool scene are a couple of the highlights at the Hotel IFA Catarina.
A first-rate location isn't the only thing this place has going for it. It's surrounded by pretty gardens that give it a really peaceful feel, plus, it's getting a top-to-toe makeover that'll be ready for November 2017.
When you're staying here, it's easy to swap poolside for seaside. Playa del Ingles’ beach is a three kilometre stretch of sand that comes fully-loaded with activities, and it's just a 15-minute stroll over the dunes. If you don’t fancy walking, there's a free shuttle bus from the hotel.
Just so you know, this hotel will be known as Abora Catarina by Lopesan from November 2017.

Have not been on holiday for a while so was looking forward to this one. Weather was amazing and the location is close enough to the beach to not be a hike but far enough that you can get some much needed exercise in. beach was really good. rooms were recently updated and quite comfortable. bedding was high standard. Rooms could have used more tv channels for evenings. the food was good but needed more variety for all inclusive. tennis courts were out of order which was disappointing. gym needs updating for sure as it was lacking in equipment and cooling. overall i would definitely suggest it as it has all you need. didnt use the pool because i preferred the beach but someone needs to enforce the rule of not saving pool side loungers as people were out at 8am saving spots for their families, More
Just back from our holiday to Gran Canaria at the Ifa Catarina hotel. When we were dropped off by the bus we noticed on going works at the hotel and it's surroundings which we were told at booking however, we were told that this would be completed by our stay.... clearly not. Lovely clean reception and very helpful staff. Unfortunately we had to wait over an hour for our room to be ready I found this very unacceptable considering they knew we were arriving at our booking in time and after a 4.5 hour plane journey and then another 40mins on the bus all we wanted to do was rest a little. Once we actually got into our room it was very nice and we had a recently updated decorated room. Our friends room was horrendous and clearly not updated. Food was cold on all hot meals which I mentioned several times to staff one waiter was very rude in fact down right rude and walked away muttering to himself. Over-run by children under the age of 7 with water pistols you couldn't move without getting wet, parents didn't seem to bother too busy sunbathing. Definitely a children's holiday they all had a ball. The children's entertainers had their work carried out and were absolutely fabulous with them and kept them all amused CREDIT TO THEM. Couldn't get into the pools as over run by children. Cigarette butts everywhere even in the drinking glasses UNACCEPTABLE AND DOWN RIGHT DISGUSTING AND NO RESPECT FOR THE HOTEL AND OTHER GUESTS. Cleaning staff in the hotel were always busy and cleaning was of a good standard. Domestic room maids were very polite and did a high standard of work. Outside the rear door near to lifts there was black bags of rubbish and glasses with more cigarette butts in them, just disgusting. We couldn't sit outside on our balcony due to other guests sitting smoking on there balconies. We also witnessed children throwing plastic bottles and plastic cups of the balconies. More attention needed to the painters as we watched them paint the rear wall behind the seating area, and also all the plants got covered too. I think having a adult pool and seating area would be a great investment and a smoke free environment would definitely be a bonus for the hotel. It's not everyone that smokes so feel that everyone's needs are not respected. In the evening there was entertainment on till 11 o'clock which was very entertaining especially when loro park turned up with the parrots and the children would not behave and two parrots just had enough and decided to move if the stage. The parrots carer had his hands full. Definitely a fabulous holiday for children, children are definitely catered for. Unfortunately and sadly not for couples. Will I return to this hotel : sadly not. More
2 star review for a 3 star hotel
My issues with this hotel and complex but generally it's a complete lack of customer care and customer service. I'm currently sat in reception and whilst I don't want to go home in general, I can't wait to be away from this hotel. Pool was great, kids team were great, room was nice, cleaning staff were good. Here are a few short point: 1. Upon arrival our key card did not work, after 2 hours of back and forth trips to reception with my pregnant wife and kids left sitting in the hall we were let into our room. We were the old it would be fixed for 09:30 the following day, at 11:00 we returned to our room and still could not get in, even after checking this with reception first. Another 45 mins sat in the hall and 3 calls to reception to ask where they were. Fix took 3 mins. 2. When we checked in we confirmed we were in the superior room as per our booking, we were told the we are. However it turned out we were not. It felt like they knew exactly what we were saying but brushed it off as meaning a refurbished room. We ended up getting €145 refund, but no apology from the hotel. 3. Evening entertainment, that actual entertainment is great, however there are no where near enough seats for the number of guests, this is poor customer care, they have just not put any thought into it. Then if you take a chair from another location you get told off. 4. Food variety is lacking, lunch and dinner are almost the same meal. 5. Ive posted some photos, the bin has been there in that exact state since the night we checked in and the rubbish from the building works was there from just after lunch until lunchtime the following day. 6. We tried to book late checkout as our transfer was not until 17:30, we were told you cannot book this in advance and to ask on the day. We asked on the day and were told no, but we can use the hospitality room. This is one large room with everyone's luggage, there is one shower for men and one for women. The men's shower did not have a working lock on the door, the shower head bracket was broken and so you had to hold it, the curtain does not touch the floor so by the time I had finished a 5min shower I had to use 4 towels to mop water off the floor. The lights In the men's do not work at all and a light in the main area was flickering. The women's was not much better. 7. I complained about the hospitality room as it was a really bad impression to leave on, and the manager just shrugged his shoulders, he could not care less. When I told him he had a bad attitude he shrugged again. I would say that the overall lack of customer care must come from the top down, I have been fortunate to have been on many similar weeks away over the past few years and this is by far the worst hotel out of the last 10 for customer service. There were some members of staff who were really nice and I can only recommend that they try to get a job with another hotel where the managements attitude matches there customer service skills. As for this hotel or in fact this chain, I'm extremely unlikely to go to them again.More
This hotel is is best value for money hotel I have ever stayed in, the food is excellent, always plenty and freshly cooked, and nicely presented, the hotel is exceptionally clean, the rooms are modern, and well furnished, as everything finishes at 11.00pm a good night's sleep can be had.The staff are very friendly and helpful. Very much a safe family hotel. More
