Hotel Barceló Fuerteventura Thalasso Spa

This beachfront hotel has been awarded Spain’s highest award for quality.

This huge hotel is just a stone’s throw from a sandy beach. And it’s also a 10-minute walk to Caleta de Fuste’s pint-sized harbour – there are a handful of bars and restaurants right on the water.

The hotel holds the Q award for quality. Thanks to the outdoor lagoon pools and al fresco grill restaurant, it’s easy to see why. There’s another buffet restaurant, as well as nightly live shows.

Pretty good on the whole......

Overall this is a good place. The two lagoons and surrounding area are a big win. One lagoon is not heated providing a quieter place to put in some decent swimming, the other is heated and provides a good place for bobbing around! As for the food, despite not being a buffet fan I have to admit it was pretty good with a large variety and decent quality. As half board guests we had breakfast and dinner included as default, but the hotel is more than willing to allow you to switch the dinner for lunch, meaning we were able to have meals out in the evening without missing out on something you'd already paid for. The rooms were nice, clean and sufficient and the staff friendly. The place is BIG and it's probably inevitable that it can lack the personal touch at times. Unfortunately there wasn't any working wifi available. Another issue was that our bathroom smelt really bad... It was one of those annoying issues which we could easily have complained about and would most likely be moved room but since we were pleased with the room and didn't want the trouble of packing up our belongings we decided to put up with it. Another mildly annoying point was that they squeeze a bit of cash out of you at lunch and dinner time by charging for ALL drinks including water. In conclusion I would recommend this hotel. We used it as a great base to explore the island.More

Lovely week in April

We visited Barcelo Fuerteventura Thalasso Spa Hotel in April booked through Thomsons and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We had had all inclusive and superior rooms in block 3 on the top floor with pool and sea views after reading other review comments regarding less noise on the top floor. I have to agree that the noise levels were excellent as were the rooms. It appears that there is not a major difference between regular and superior rooms but certainly the position of our rooms was excellent, so pleased we opted for them. After very good flights and taxi transfer we did experience a large queue of people checking in at the hotel (it was Saturday and major change over day) so we had a quick drink and waited 20 minutes for the queue to be dealt with. Check in was quick and first impressions very good from reception staff. Found our way around very quickly and good hotel map supplied by reception, and Thomson briefing was good and please to see 3 excellent reps at the hotel very regularly. Both hotel and all of resort was very clean and tidy and pleasant to stroll around. Obviously more work being done in resort over the other side of the bay and resort is growing but not in any way intrusive on our holiday. Plenty of room to always find a bed and also quieter areas away from the pool and children’s areas. Booked an a la carte romantic dinner for the Tuesday night in the Aloe restaurant which cost 16euros each extra over the all-inclusive. Very pleasantly surprised by the quality. All courses were excellent, very attentive waiters and flowing wine. Very much worthwhile trying and only disappointment was we couldn’t get in again on the Friday as they were fully booked. Hired a car for 3 days and travelled around the island and again very worthwhile, as there are some fabulous beaches and dunes both to the north of the island and down south. No trip lasted more than 3 or 4 hours away as it is not a large island, but again overall impression was that it was the best Island in the Canaries having visited all of them over the past few years. Any issues? Very few hotels manage to get everything right and there were a few issues. Firstly the Wi-Fi was not very good and when I asked about upgrading to the paid hotel offering I was recommended not to bother as it’s no better. Apparently the Wi-Fi on the whole island is not very good so don’t expect fast downloads. Having said that I managed to keep up to date all week if a little slower than usual! I did make one suggestion (on an official form at reception) after experiencing poor bar service in Aloe pool bar at 5pm. One person serving and 10 – 12 people waiting, I didn’t think was good at all , but received no response at all. Finally the evening entertainment was not particularly good in my view, but not a major issue as just outside of the hotel are a number of bars and we went into Piero’s bar and found it excellent. It is rated as the no1 entertainment in the town and I can see why. We went 3 nights on the trot and thoroughly enjoyed the music. Highly recommended! All in all, a lovely holiday and very good hotel on a lovely island and yes we would certainly go back again.More

Fantastic Break

Just visited this fabulous hotel. Staff very helpful and obliging. Food excellent choices to suit all tastes. I am Gluten Free and Dairy Free and had plenty of choice without asking for anything special. Theme nights very good. All the staff work really hard, long hours but always smiling.. Cannot wait until next year to go back. Only downside was the number of children ( most of them in pushchairs) although a few older ones had been taken out of school.I expect they got for free. Evening entertainment alright - nothing special. Great location only 10 minutes from airport. Area flat for walking or for anyone in a wheelchairMore

A Good Relaxing Holiday In The Sun

We were given the room we requested, which was spacious and comfortable with excellent maid service. The overall service from all the staff was extremely good despite their heavy workloads. The food quality and variety was good for buffet style in a very large restaurant although the absence of a nightly ala' carte option was disappointing for a 4 star hotel. Also, having to pay for the room safe, clean pool towels, decent wi - fi, drinks after 11.00 p.m., use of the spa and Friday night ala' carte is not something we have experienced before in an All Inclusive package in a 4 star hotel. Overall, however, we had an enjoyable, relaxing holiday.More
