Summer holiday

This is an amazing hotel. It is clean, friendly staff. Our room was incredible. The bed was enormous. We had a fabulous hot tub in the room. The balcony overlooked the pool area, air conditioning was wonderful. Always a good nights sleep. A beautiful hotel, would definitely recommend.More

sarak17,

Lovely hotel at the heart of the resort

We stayed at the Barcelo between 4th and 18th June, just after the UK half-term holidays. Our first impression of the hotel was Wow. The large wide open lobby with a lovely fountain lit from the skylight above was lovely and seems an oasis from the heat outside. The hotel is on a quiet side street moments from the restaurants and bars and a short walk to the water park. It only take 10 mins to walk to the old harbour. Check in was quick and though we arrived early and needed to wait half an hour for our room to be available we were given a voucher for a drink at the bar or pool restaurant, which was appreciated. We had a Deluxe Room with hot tub (room 2002). The room shares a terrace with 12 or so other rooms and have a cabana and hot tub just for your use. They are fairly close together so those of a shy nature may prefer the rooms which have the hot tub on the balcony or in room, but we were not bothered and it was nice to chat to other guests. The room was a good size, with a very comfy bed and a decent bathroom, though ours needed a bit of an upgrade to make it as modern as the bedroom. The aircon was OK, but a fan over the bed would have really made the room comfortable. We weren't able to get the temperature lower than 22 degrees, which is a bit hot for us UK residents! We ordered a safe at extra cost, it would have been nice to have this included in the cost of the room. The Deluxe room comes with a pre-stocked mini bar included and a 90 minute session every day at the spa. In our first week the pool area was pretty quiet and we had no issues finding a place to sit, no matter the time of day. In the second week it was much busier and we found that by the time we came down to breakfast all loungers had been reserved with towels which was annoying. There is a policy to remove towels after 1 hour of the lounger not being used but we never saw this being enforced. However, with the private terrace and the spa meant that we had somewhere to stretch out, and cool off (spa session needs to be booked). We found that the pools were far to cool for swimming and hardly anyone used them. This is a shame because in June the sea is quite cold and a dip in the pool would have been really nice. The pool bar offers a tasty range of treats and good service from a fun team of waiters. Clearly the regulars are appreciated and welcomed back with open arms and newcomers made welcome too. The spa is excellent and because of the requirement to book is not overcrowded. There's a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, small pool, warm bath pool, labyrinth of showers and a plunge pool for the brave. We booked in for massages which were very relaxing and a decent price compared to London prices. Though my husband and I went for different massages we were able to book a time slot together and in the same room which was great. The breakfast buffet was enormous with food for all tastes and cava if you want to start your celebrations early! I recommend going before 10am because towards the end of the serving period, it gets a bit stressful to find a table. The staff start to clear them all so finding one still laid up can be impossible. You can get one laid up but it seems a bit unnecessary to clear all tables so early. Perhaps the ones near the entrance could be left until after 10.30am. We ate at the restaurant twice and again the choice was fantastic. There was a barbecue the second visit which was excellent. They don't advertise the special foods or events very clearly, so check with reception for more details, or have a look at the board just outside the restaurant. There are various activities laid on by the hotel during the day and light entertainment in the evening. The live music takes place in the lobby bar and starts about 7pm and ends by 10-10.30 pm every evening. It caters mostly for an older audience with Mowtown, Abba, Bee Gees and old crooner cover acts. The best we heard was a tenor who was fabulous. Move over Pavarotti! Though we were not especially interested in the entertainment we could not help but hear it. Rooms 2001-2012 are located above the lobby bar and as a result you cannot avoid hearing the entertainment as the lobby space is open up to the hallway outside the rooms and out on the terrace the sound travels up through the skylight. If you are an early sleeper and noise at night bothers you these aren't the rooms for you. We found it a bit intrusive, but because it finished fairly early and we were out for most of it we didn't mind too much. Clearly it was very popular with other guests. So to summarise this is a lovely hotel, in a prime location, with excellent facilities and superb staff. We loved that it was adult-only and the deluxe hot tub room was brilliant. It is our understanding that the hotel is aiming for 5 star status and we think it isn't far off. We think that just a few tweaks would make the difference. 1) Heat the pool a bit more, or close one to make more space for loungers 2) Ensure that guests are never given towels or sheets with holes in them 3) Consider upgrading the older bathrooms to make them more modern 4) Consider putting the evening entertainment in the Adama lounge so it doesn't intrude on the bedrooms.More

Excellent adult only hotel

I stayed with a friend for a week at the end of June on a half board basis. The room was a decent size with a television with BBC and ITV and plenty of wardrobe space. We had a large bathroom with a bath with a shower over it and 2 sinks. Also fresh towels every day. There are 2 pools both very cold though we did aqua aerobics in there. There are activities on different days like zumba, stretching, paella and cocktail tasting and painting - all arranged by Laura. There are other exercise classes in the studio but they are for a private club. It would have been good to join in but there is also a small gym. You get 2 towel cards each so you can have a fresh pool towel every 3 or 4 days. The pool opens at 9 and The lifeguard polices unoccupied reserved beds. After an hour he pegs a sign with the time on it and then an hour later will remove your things. 2 hours is plenty of time to have lunch or walk to the shops or the beach. I wish more hotels did this. The food is really good. Loads of choice at breakfast plus a different theme each night. We had Canarian, Asian, Mexican, Italian, Mediterranean, BBQ. There was always loads of salad, different fish and meats. Also lovely desserts and plenty of fresh fruit. The hotel is on a side street off the main street, close to bars and restaurants but still very quiet. It was a nice relaxing break on the sun. More

Great hotel

Went to Barcelo Corralejo Bay for 10 days. Great half board plan. Nice food and every day different. Animation good and every day different. Spa and wellness is great and relaxing! Location in the centre but nice and quiet. Beach really at 85 meters. Staff, most of them are great (both Francesco's and Driss!) Definitely will return to this hotel and to fuertevenura/corralejo!
