Brilliant hotel

Having stayed at the Calypso last year, this hotel is definitely a step up and deserving of its 4 star rating in comparison. Having seen a few negative points previously I'd like to offer my view... The pool and sunbeds - yes there are the usual early risers to get sunbeds but there are still plenty available at half 9 and sometimes later. The lifeguards do a fantastic job in not only keeping the pool area tidy but in trying to keep the sunbeds free from people who only want then in the afternoon. Notices are placed and towels removed. The fire exits which are used early on to gain access are covered in notices too. Not sure what else can be done? The restaraunt - not once did we feel rushed to finish our meals. Yes, the waiters are very, very quick to move empty plates but they are equally quick to get you drinks or sort any problems you have. I just class this as efficient! The rooms - have to agree with the views on the standards of sweeping/mopping. The rooms are kept spotless but the floors don't seem to be done to the same standard. This is not something I would worry too much about when reviewing however. They are cleaned, just not as well as the rest of the room. Also on a related note, if people followed the instructions in the room they would see that the tv does in fact have BBC world news, Sky Sports and a UK music channel. It's just a case of changing the AV setting on the tv. We can't fault this hotel, on a positive note. The food is superb, the AI offering is brilliant with snacks available throughout the day including ice creams and branded drinks often served. The hotel is clean, the staff very friendly, rooms a decent size for small families and the facilities offer everything you could need. The only slight niggle we had and it wasn't the fault of the hotel, was that upon entering our rooms the previous guests had kept the room open and let themselves back in after checking out. The hotel sorted it straight away and gave us free passes for the spa as an apology. We would definitely return to this hotel. As a side note - Port Aventura was ridiculously busy during our stay. Apparently due to French school holidays. Furious Baco had waits of over 2 hours and 30 mins. Would probably think twice about booking tickets at this time of year. More

Excellent Hotel

Spent two weeks here through Thompson and we were absolutely delighted with our holiday. We spent a good chunk of our first week out and about, touring Salou and Barcelona, and towards the end of our holiday, we were quite at home in the hotel and not at all cabin feverish! The rooms are well laid out, with a mini fridge and tea making facilities, however himself was disappointed that there was no iron. The bathrooms are very spacious, with a large shower with adjustable jets etc. Shelve space was also more than enough, and there was a drying rack on the balcony, along with a table and two chairs. Maids came every day and sheets were changed every few days, with towels as you required. We also purchased the use of the room safe for €35 and €10 deposit. We went for half board and found it really saved us €'s we would normally have splashed on eating out. Breakfast was lovely, with so much on offer (buffet) and while I wasn't always too adventurous (I recommend the pancakes with chocolate sauce and bananas!), my boyfriend tried most of the food; eggs, breads, pastries, fries etc. Drinks are also included here, so tea, coffee, hot chocolate, orange juice... etc! Something for everyone, including a Dietary section for those with Dietary requirements. The dinners were a little more touch and go, so we found ourselves eating a lot of bread (always checking if it was warm/fresh first) but again, lots for everyone's different tastes. The themed evenings were a real treat to see the food displayed so artistically! Dessert was also very varied, and as it was my boyfriend's birthday during our stay, I availed of a personalised cake for him- it did not disappoint! The staff in the restaurant were mostly lovely, especially Javier who's welcoming greeting is missed at our mealtimes! There were of course the odd few who definitely hated their jobs, clearing up people's plates without an ounce of friendliness, but I think you'll find that anywhere. We spent some time by the pool, and while not always necessary, we did find ourselves setting the alarms at 7am to get sun beds. In fairness to the hotel, the lifeguard did go around issuing warnings to people who had reserved towels and were no shows, so it is being somewhat policed. We also went along to some of the activities run by the Animation Team, and were pleasantly surprised by the offer of Adult Activities. Activities are timetabled every day from 10:30 with certificates for participants presented before the Bingo in the evenings (a lovely end to the day for participating families I thought). These were very professionally run by the Animation Team, and it was also a nice way to mingle amongst the guests. Activities included Aqua Gym, Water Polo, Water Volleyball, Water Basket, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Football, Pistol Shooting, Archery, and more. Lastly, we took a visit to the spa, and indulged in a massage each. Definitely recommend if you're at a loose end during your stay. Wifi was good, though obviously not accessible everywhere, we were able to stream videos from our iPads. If we ever return to Salou, we would absolutely come here again. Thank you Golden Port Salou for a fantastic holiday!More

Gr888888888 !!

Just back from 10 nights at this hotel. Was really great. All inclusive food was amazing, the hotel is extremely clean and the rooms. The staff were sooooo lovely and the staff at reception were really helpful. My only criticism would be there are not enough beds at the big pool. The 7am towel run got on my wick... But... I'm an earlier riser. All n all an excellent holiday.. I would defo use this hotel again 👌More

Vicki W,

Lovely time at golden port with some small issues Z

So it is the day after our return from 12 lovely days at the golden port. The hotel itself is well situated, not in the centre of the town but close enough so it is only a 5/10 minute walk to the beach or shops depending on your walking pace ( I have a 3 year old and she can walk pretty slow when she feels like it so it would have been a lot quicker if it was just me and the hubby). Size wise the hotel is not too big, we had two connecting rooms on the second floor facing the road (I asked before we left to have a room away from the night activities as my children are light sleepers) and once the balcony doors were closed you could not hear anything outside. The room was a good size, we had a double and a single bed and had room to move plus the bathroom was big enough and had a large walk in shower. Back downstairs the hotel had 3 pools, large bar area and plenty of kids activities during the day. We had half board dinning which worked well for us as we spent most days at the beach. The food was plentiful and offered really good choices for everyone. Definitely some of the best food I have had when on any holiday so my complements to the kitchen. Now for the small moans........ Housekeeping was very hit and miss. The floor always felt like the beach was in our room (I think it was cleaned twice in the 12 days we were there), tea and coffee was never topped up so we had to take from the restaurant each morning and we had to dust down the wardrobes first day we were there ( not that you can call them wardrobes, more like a hole in the wall with limited shelves and hanging space. More draws or shelves are definitely required). Back down to the restaurant, the head waiters that greet you are lovely and always had a smile on their faces (the kids loved them) but the rest of the staff might aswell have a t-shirt on saying I hate my job. Very miserable and half the time took your plate off you before you had the chance to put down your knife and fork. Finally as mentioned earlier we spent most days at the beach but should we have wanted to use the pool loungers one day we would have had no chance. Guests put their towels on the loungers very early in the morning and then go out for the day so if you wanted to use the loungers when we came back to the hotel at around 2 it was near impossible as most of the loungers only occupied a towel and no owner. Very unfair and I think this needs to be addressed. Anyway apart from the above we had a lovely stay and would return to this hotel. More

Wasn't disappointed lovely hotel

We have just returned from a weeks stay here at the golden port salou. To be honest I was very sceptical going as reading some of the reviews I was worried about going . Firstly don't be ! I understand some of the negative posts that have been put on here about this hotel but in my opinion if you have booked a holiday here you won't be disappointed. As you can imagine it's a busy time of year and I will be truthful it's busy with lots of family's but this didn't bother us we have an 11 year old daughter with us and she had a brilliant time met lots of friends , didn't bother with kids clubs too busy in pool . The main pool in pics we never got a sunbed around there as people did get up at a ridiculous hour to reserve the beds around the pool , again this didn't bother us at all we got beds on the terrace by the hot tubs it was peaceful and quiet up there . The other pools which one was inside and the other was used for all games and activities we didn't bother with both seemed busy but not rowdy. The entertainment of a night was good we always got a seat Israel was brilliant he made the holiday certainly when he wasn't there he was missed but the others were good with kids and tried there best . Bingo was the highlight of our night ! . Food was lovely and plenty we were all inclusive and were never bored with food more than enough choice . There were comments about how miserable the staff was in restaurant but we never found this , they were busy but we never felt rushed to eat . Rooms were clean and big enough another moan on here was about the rooms , firstly if you can get a room poolside , bonus we didn't and our view wasn't by no means scenic but again this wasn't a worry . Location was great it's a good 15-20 mins walk to beach 5-10 to bars shops etc . Once you get down to beach it's s lovely walk along the coast . Things to do definitely do the house of illusion that was brilliant we got a free vip upgrade once we arrived which was an added bonus . Portaventura is good if you don't make mind queuing for 3 hours for one ride !!!!!! But to be honest it's the height of season it was never going to be quiet I would if I was to go again get a three day pass which allows you to see it all also you can do water park with that to , we were only there for a week so didn't bother . We would definitely pick this hotel again we had a fantastic time. Only reason haven't give it full marks is because of a few minor things . More
