Great Hotel

Stayed here for a week, 17th to 24th October with Thomson Holidays. First impression of the hotel was great, they had the foyer decorated in a Halloween theme which was really nice. Check in was ok although had a slight wait for our room to be ready (the trouble when flying 6am from Glasgow). The room was ready at the time reception advised and once in the room 525 it was lovely. nice and spacious, the bathroom had a walk in shower which was great. We had asked for the quieter side of the hotel which we got. Overall very impressed with the high standard of cleanliness of the room. The only point I would say is the tv only had 2 English channels (BBC News & Music Channel) not so good. Advise though if you are staying put some films on a memory stick as the TV had a USB slot and hopefully it would work. The restaurant was very large and well presented in Halloween theme too. The guys on the door do an amazing job making sure everyone gets seated, well impressed. The food bearing in mind we were in Spain was great, its cooked different and presented different but its still food after all. Couldn't fault it Lovely. The waiting staff on the whole were good and quick to offer drinks etc. The bar was good, we went all inclusive which was great and would advise. Drinks were fine on the whole. We stayed a couple of nights for the entertainment which was ok. Same as other folk have mentioned though, the pillars are in the wrong place and block some of the stage depending where you sit. The pool area was lovely, nice big out door pool, unfortunately there is not a lot of space for sunbeds where you can stay in the sun all day. luckily it was quitter and we were able to move round. Could be busy in the height of the season though. Indoor pool is a nice touch too for when its not so warm. Didn't use the Spa however it did look very nice. Barcelona was a good trip along with the football stadium, even if you don't follow football (like me) its still good to go. Las Rambles was good but busy. Went to chaplins one night was a good night, Michael Buble was good then had Katy Perry and last was Beyoncé, both good as well. Salou Beach was really nice and easy walk from the hotel (10 mins ish), We spent 2 days at Port Ventura park which was great and the Halloween Parade was really good too. Forgot to say too, The room we had did have a strong Wifi signal. Overall a really good holiday and would go again.More

Not impressed

We stayed here last year for 1 week and had a great time so decided to stay for 2 weeks this time which we now regret doing. We stayed on the 7th floor, the room was ok nothing special. As previously stated by Spence F when you put the card in for the electric the tv comes on and is very loud especially when late night revellers return to their rooms. The food was always luke warm or cold and reminded us of a school canteen. I think there were more kids there than adults. The only good thing about the restaurant was Antonio & Javier who are a credit to the hotel. The waiting staff in the restaurant were very surly and did not smile. I was eating a bagette over my plate one day and a waitress took it away so hence all crumbs ended up on the place mats. We in the ended up eating out as at least the food was served warm. At night the kids just run riot and played with footballs inside the entertainment area and when walking back from the bar it was like an obstacle course as kids were running everywhere. The parents didnt even know where their kids were most of the time. Kids were going up and down in the lifts just causing havoc. We will not be staying at this hotel again and will look to find somewhee else.More

Great hotel for families

After staying in a similar 4* Golden hotel in Tossa de Mar 12 months ago, my family plumped for the Golden Port Salou hotel as we wanted good quality accommodation near to Port Aventura. The hotel was not quite up to the same standards as Golden Bahia de Tossa but it was cheaper and had many of the same facilities that we were looking for - sports pitch for the kids to play on, an indoor pool and spa, daytime and evening entertainment and good food. Rooms are adequate - clean and comfy without being wonderful but I did really miss having a soak in the bath, which I enjoy,, the bathroom here only came with a shower. The location was good - less than 10 minutes walk to the main beach and with a decent selection of bars, clubs and restaurants on your doorstep. If I'm being totally honest, the breakfast was a let down for me, it was OK but the hot food was very uninspiring and not the greatest quality. I couldn't fault the food at lunch and dinner though, we all really enjoyed those meals. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and will probably rebook next year again as we enjoyed staying in Salou and want to return to Port Aventura, an amazing theme park which is only 5 minutes away in a taxi.More

A family of 7 arrived at this hotel on 20th October 2015 for 10 days. If you want 5 star adult only luxury with fluffy towels and Egyptian cotton bed sheets with staff who walk around with inane grins, just to please pretentious guests who obviously have Gordan Ramsay as their in house chef with II Divo and Dynamo as their personal entertainers then this is not the hotel for you. If you want excellent value for money where the hotel staff work very hard and really do make the effort with you if you also can bother to make the effort with them, does Buenos dias or gracias cost anything? Hotel reception staff always friendly and helpful, restaurant staff clear the tables and get you seated quickly, had no problem with getting served quickly at the bar. Animation team do a fantastic job at keeping the kids occupied and really do work hard. Rooms cleaned everyday with fresh towels and bed linen changed about every 3 days. The hotel does attracts various nationalities but found everybody just got on with their holiday. Thomson reps also helpful and friendly. Special mention to Antionio and Javier who do a fantastic job as the restaurant managers. Also Lisette and Milena (who should apply for Spanish next top model) both such lovely ladies. Israel, Jose, David and Natalia (hope I have got all the names right) bring fun and laughter to everyone's holiday. The only criticism is the pillars in the lounge really obstruct your view of the stage and the outdoor pools are freezing, the hotel should look at heating them during the cooler months. Thanks Golden Port for a lovely holiday. More

Won't be going again

We stayed here once before two years ago but we wont be staying again. Looking back on my review (23 October 2013) then I started by saying 'If I had been writing this review after the first two days of my holiday it would not have been a very positive one' Well this time I'm afraid it's not a positive one after seven days. Unfortunately this time we had recommended the hotel to our family and went as a party of nine, with an age range of mid teens to mid sixties. The rooms are still OK with good sized beds, flat screen TV (but now no English main stream programs like last time), kettle and nice bathroom. The rooms did vary though as did the room service so don't expect there to be a bath mat nor the right amount of bath and hand towels (the towels are well past their best, grey and worn) every time the maid calls. The worst room with regards to style and outlook was the one that my son had booked through Thompson and he paid the most. Meal times were chaotic,we had booked the week before the UK school holidays and thought it would be reasonably quite, how wrong we were the hotel seemed full with a wide variety of nationalities and plenty of children. I've grown up in an era where there was a mutual respected for person and property, this unfortunately did not show it's self here. The food although being of good choice and taste was sometimes only luke warm and that coupled with the air of a busy canteen did not make for enjoyable meals. There are always cleaners working in the hotel itself but they were in short supply when it came to the sun loungers which didn't look like they had been cleaned since last time we were there in fact most of them were that old and broken they could do with completely renewing. There were several machines in the hotel out of order including a pool table but none seemed to have been looked out in the time we were there. I also complained last time about noise and lack of any kind of sound proofing for your room, this is now compounded by the stupid idea by the hotel that the TV comes on every time you put your card key in for the electricity, so when your neighbor comes in after a night out on comes their TV this is something you cannot alter as all manual operations on the TV have been disabled. If you do go to this hotel, and I have to admit it is value for money, and you like a good nights sleep take some ear plugs.More
