Great Salou Hotel
Just come back from a week here and we loved it. Traveled as party of 5 (mum, dad, nana, 15yo son and 13yo daughter with Thompson on a half board holiday. We had an issue with a missing case on arrival which the Thompson reps were really helpful about both at the airport and the hotel (it arrived on day 3) We really liked the location of the hotel as was a comfortable walk to the beaches (Platja deis Capellans and the main beach with the fountains). The pools at the hotel were great, plenty of room and activities. All the staff we met were great, someone has already mentioned Javier in the restaurant I'd like to say ALL the staff we met were fantastic. Evening entertainment was good and I thought the bar prices were great. Big plus for us was the food as we all found something to eat and there was plenty of it. At breakfast there was cereal, breads, all the parts of a full English, pastries and fruit. In the evenings there was always an even wider selection of food and everything I tried was great. The negatives were towels left by the pool (but we still found somewhere to sit) and smokers by the pool which isn't supposed to be allowed during the day. I'd go back tomorrow.More
Not the best :(
Just returned from our 10 day holiday here. We stayed on the top floor room 706. This is more a 3 star than a 4 star. This is how our family and others who we spoke to found the holiday. Good points; 20 minutes by coach from the airport. The staff are very friendly, especially Javier in the restaurant, he is a credit to the hotel. Evening entertainment was good. Israel was very funny, the campest spiderman I've ever seen!! Reception area and eating areas were clean. 3 lifts to all floors are quick. Plenty of food in the restaurant and constantly refilled, lots of choice. Pool area cleaned daily. Hairdryer and plug point in bathroom. Large shower. Spa was wonderful. Lovely back, neck, leg massage (but ladies be careful because when they say a full massage, it is a full one that includes having your breasts massaged!) Balcony had 2 loungers on and table with 4 chairs. Air conditioning was good. Downhill mountain biking was great fun. Sunbathe on the roof if you want to! Bad points: The room had a stale cigarette smell when we first walked in. The beds were extremely uncomfortable, could feel every spring (quite a few others on trip advisor mention the same thing) no extra covers available so you only have a thin sheet and a paper thin throw. Tea and coffee was not topped up in the room. At 6.40 every morning there was an awful noise on the roof which sounded like an aeroplane engine and it would last all day. The cleaning was pretty much non existent on our floor.( other guests told us they experienced the same) Quick wipe in the doorway with the mop and towels changed. That was it. We made our own beds and cleaned our sideboard and floor ourselves. There was a tea stain on the side that was there when we arrived and still when we left. (I managed to wipe half off easily so I don't know why the cleaner couldn't?!) Limited storage. Sewage smell in the shower for the last 4 days. Bar menu at lunch was ok but I'd highly recommend you go out to uncle Sams restaurant. More food, better quality & for less money! Kids club wasn't great and its nothing like the other Thomson holidays we have experienced. The pool was cramped especially with it being high season. Be aware that if you plan on sunbathing all day, you won't be able to because the sun only hits certain parts for a few hours. It is then hidden behind trees and buildings. 3 hot tubs...don't be fooled, they were freezing cold! 10 minute walk to fag end beach. Thousands of tat shops. Pavements outside are cramped, cracked, uneven and broken. This can be dangerous if you are unsteady on your feet or you have young children. Really bad rotting bin smell all down the side streets and main stretch. We had to hold our breath several times! You will be hounded by people handing out flyers. Noise at night from surrounding hotels would go on until early hours of the next morning. The surrounding hotels were very close. Sea views are very limited!!More

Have never seen so many cleaners
We have just come back from a two week holiday at the Golden Port Salou with Thomson. The hotel was very clean and the staff could not do enough for you. The Thomson reps were great and we booked the dolphin experience and went to watch Barcelona play at Camp Neu all though Thomson. We were half board, after a week we were really board of the food, although it was well cooked and there was choice we found that the kids were not always able to find something that they would eat so we started to eat out instead (Uncle Sam's highly recommend). The hotel were extremely helpful when we discovered that the cleaners had caught up my sons teddy in the sheets, it was returned 24 hours later, after having a wash. The rooms were not an ideal size for a family of 4 especially as older children (8 and 11) however were cleaned everyday and comfortable. Our only problem which was not the hotels fault was for our second week we were unlucky with our neighbours. Each morning I was woken by the neighbours baby at 6am and a few doors down were a British family who would have 3am druken rows in the corridor with each other. It's the first holiday that I have wanted to come home from so I could sleep. It was on one of these mornings at 6am that I went as couldn't get back to sleep and sat in reception (wifi only downstairs) and saw that there were 11 cleaners in just the reception area alone. It was a nice hotel, clean and good evening entertainment with an 8-9pm hour hour. Would I go back again, no the rooms were just too small for a family of 4.More
1 week holiday 15th August 2014
The hotel is everything we hoped for. Food excellent, numerous choices every day even for a fussy 13 year old (Make sure you try the omlettes at breakfast, made while you wait taste delicious). Room, we stayed on 6th floor, pool view (as requested I emailed the hotel 3 weeks before we went â¬10 per night to upgrade but well worth it). Rooms kept clean and towels replaced daily. Reception staff very helpful and understsnd english, bonus. Free wifi available in the reception area and by the pool, but not in the rooms. Entertainment provided every night which was a high standard. Hotel about a 10 min walk to beach and 20 min walk to Port Adventure but there are buses if you don't fancy the walk. Firework display on friday night on the beach although doesn't start till late 22:45. Also fountains light up at night to music beautiful to watch. We had an action packed holiday, waterparks, pedalos, theme park, shopping and swimming. We e en took a bus to neirbouring La Pineda where my son had a dolphin and sealion experience at Aquopolis Water Park, an amazing experience for him. We would recommend the Golden Port Salou hotel to anyone. I followed the reviews on trip advisor before we went and couldn't find many negatives about this hotel. Someone mentioned staff in restaurant clearing plates away quickly, this is true but it just meant when we came down for our meal there wasnt a queue, and you were always asked if you had finished. Only negative I could mention would be smoking around the pool area (I detest the smell of cigarette smoke) but this wasn't a massive issue.More
Stayed here August 2014.
Just come back from 10 days here. It was a lovely hotel. We got the rooms we requested and they were lovely rooms. The food was amazing, there was loads to choose from, all inclusive was so worth it! We did have ants a few nights in our room but I spoke to the cleaner and she sprayed some stuff which got rid of them. Location is ok, there's a strip of bars and shops etc. The beach is about a 20 minute walk away so we decided not to go. We decided to go on a few day trips to Barcelona, which is about an hour away on the bus, definitely worth it. We visited the fountains and went to watch a Barcelona match, didn't get to see much of the fountains due to weather, talking of weather it wasn't brilliant the 10 days we were there but that can't be helped. But all in all Salou is a lovely family place, plenty to do water parks etc which are a short bus journey away. And I would definitely stay here again in the future, the cleaners go to a lot of effort to ensure the hotel is clean! Also the Thomson reps Sarah and Kirsty were lovely, really helpful and kind. Ignore the bad reviews, the hotel is fab!!More
