Designed for three to 11-year-olds, our Kids’ Clubs offer two hours of activities, six days a week. We’ve split the Clubs into specific age groups, too, so that all activities are tailored to suit your little ones. And all the sessions have a theme, so there’s lots of fun and games in store. You’ll find nearly all the Kids’ Club sessions are free, with evening activities available at a small charge. For your peace of mind, all of our Kids’ Club staff are trained to UK standards and undergo relevant checks.

My wife and I have both been independent travellers in the past, but now that we have two young children, package holidays are more our speed. We chose Salou for its proximity to Port Aventura, and ease of travel to Barcelona, where we have friends. The choice of hotel was decided by the creche and kids' club facilities, plus the good reviews here.
Overall, we had an excellent holiday. Just a few points:
Kids' Club - Our (not quite) four-year-old girl loved the kids' club, which was a two hour session every morning. Staff were great and offered lots of activities. There were also things going on outside of those hours, like the chocolate party, which our little girl went mad for.
Creche - Again, two hour sessions, which coincided with the kids' club, so Mum and Dad had a couple of hours to themselves every morning. Staff were great, and we felt very confident leaving our little boy with them.
Evening Entertainment - There was a show every night for the kids, and they had a blast. A similar format every night, but enough variation to keep our two entertained while Mum and Dad looked on from the sidelines (possibly with a drink in hand). Be warned, though, you'll have that Little Pups song rattling in your head for weeks afterwards...
There were also events for adults on some evenings (a Take That tribute, for example), but I can't comment as were putting the kids to bed by that time every night.
Pools - There are four pools in total, the main two being a splash pool for the smaller kids, and a large lagoon style pool for supervised kids and adults. Our two loved the splash pool and we couldn't keep them away from it.
One major minus point, however: I found the water almost unbearably cold. I know I wasn't alone in this, and many of the other adults just couldn't stand to go swimming. Also, there was a waterfall barrel thingummy that sprayed ice cold water around the splash pool; most of the little ones were terrified of it and would only go in the water when it was turned off. Staff seemed to realise this after a while, and kept it off more often. It would have been less scary had the water been warmer. It hasn't out us off going back next year, but I do hope someone has turned up the thermostat by then.
As well as another paddling pool, there was an indoor pool in the basement; this was properly heated, so I tended to do my swimming there when it was quiet, but it's a little too small to really get a good swim.
Food - A self service canteen with a pretty decent variety of food, with a small number of local dishes among the more UK-centric fare. It won't win a Michelin star, but we were able to find something to suit everybody at each meal, so no complaints there. It's also run very efficiently, with a fast turnaround.
Finally, this point didn't apply to us, but I feel it's worth mentioning: The hotel and the staff seemed to cater particularly well for people with disabilities; all parts of the hotel seemed to be wheelchair accessible, and the staff were very attentive and sensitive to those with special needs.
All in all, we enjoyed this holiday so much we're going back next year. The only thing that stops it getting the full 5/5 is the very cold water in the pool.
Quick tip: The train to Barcelona is very cheap, runs efficiently, the station's five minutes away by taxi, and the train will get you there in about ninety minutes. I would do this rather than paying for the Thomson tour unless you especially want to be shepherded around or don't feel confident about making your own way.More

Good Family Hotel
The Golden Avenida is a convenient short transfer of just 20 minutes from Reus Airport which is great when travelling with children. We stayed as a family of 3 with an 18 month old. The staff were great, especially Ana who made a fuss of our little boy each meal time. The housekeeping staff were so cheerful and accommodating to our needs and the rooms are cleaned daily. The kids club reps entertained the children well and our little one enjoyed little pups and kennel club which started at 7:30PM each evening. Our room was great, we had a one bedroom apartment on the 4th floor overlooking the pool with a huge balcony. We requested a quiet pool view room on a high floor about 6 weeks prior to our arrival. Having a separate bedroom was perfect for our little one to sleep undisturbed. The double bed in the living area was comfortable, although quite firm. The outdoor pools are good, we only used the kids paddling pool outdoors and the water was cold but it was October. The indoor pool was warmer and nice and quiet.
We went all inclusive and found the drinks choice very good. Although we enjoyed what we ate the food at the hotel is really the only thing that lets it down slightly. We are adventurous eaters and would have liked to see more local dishes. There was a range of meats and fish on offer at each meal time but we felt a bit overwhelmed by pork at the end of our 10 night stay. I would say this is not a hotel for vegetarians. The salad was good and the desserts were very nice.
We did go to the sister hotel the Port Salou to eat one evening and found their food to be a much higher standard but a more adult atmosphere. The golden avenida has more of a canteen feel but you feel more comfortable there if your child is screaming or dropping their food.
The location of the hotel is good, just a short walk to the shops, restaurants and beach. There are local resorts to explore nearby and land trains which are cheap to hop on. This was our second time in Salou so would probably not return just because we like to visit different places. For older children having port aventura close by would be ideal, one of the land trains stops there too.
For our first family holiday abroad we felt it was a good choice and would recommend the hotel to others. I would not stay here as a couple though, but it's great for kids!More

Visited Salou many times, first time at Golden Avenida. Nice hotel, good location, away from main strip but still within walking distance of shops and town centre. Family suite was a good size, clean and comfortable, double bed in lounge area and separate room with two single beds. There was also a fridge and kettle. Restaurant had plenty of choice, even my vegetarian teenager was happy. Indoor pool leaves much to be desired, very disappointing, a funny shape and very small. We did not use the outdoor pool as it was too cold, although it did appear to be a good size and very clean. Portaventura is only a 15 minute walk away. Would stay here again.More
