We visited the Avenida for a weeks holiday on an all inclusive basis . Our family consists of two adults a 5 year old and an 11 year old. The hotel is situated about a 10 minute walk from the beach and main part of Salou. The room was a good size, main bedroom with microwave , fridge , double bed and sofa with a separate bedroom for children with two single beds. A safe is hireable at â¬20 per week with a â¬10 euro deposit. The bathroom was a good size with hot water at all times. Toiletries are also provided. Balcony was very roomy with a table and chairs for 4. Rooms were cleaned well and regularly.
Our room was on the 2nd floor facing the street and opposite the lifts as a result it was noisy late at night early in the morning.
The reception staff were polite and knowledgeable and could not have been more helpful particularly ingrid and Maria. Towels are available to hire for a â¬10 deposit and when they are wet or sandy you just swap them for new ones. Pushchairs are also available to hire.
The Thomson resort reps were brilliant. Polite knowledgeable and friendly. They know the resort well and give excellent advice. They also have a swap box where they have inflatables, buckets and spades etc. you use stuff for duration of your holiday then return it when you leave for someone else to use which is a good system.
The kids clubs information for 3-11s is well sign posted. My 5 year old used the club and thoroughly enjoyed it. The kids clubs reps do a brilliant job and are fab with the kids.
Entertainment wise for children was fab. Little pups aimed at under 5's and kennel club for 5-11. My 5 year old adored both of these. Especially the appearance of Thomson the dog. Molly, Megan Steph and Scott do a fab job. They made a real fuss of my daughter as it was her 5th birthday whilst we were there. They are enthusiastic and have a great rapport with the kids. Whilst we were there we had a Beatles tribute act which wasn't great. A magic show which was good. A flamenco show which was good and a take that tribute act which was fab! The other nights entertainment was put on by the reps. The panto was good fun. If it's not to your taste the hotel is well located for the Salou nightlife. The entertainment team also do poolside activities throughout the day such as aqua aerobics, quizzes, pool, splash bingo which are all good.
There are 4 pools. A small kids pool on the upper terrace. A children's pool with slides and the main pool with jacuzzi.. The outside pools were clean and there is a lifeguard on duty. Be aware the main pool varies in depth from ankle deep right up to 2m. Pools are clean. There are plenty of sunbeds. People were queuing at 8 to get one. We didn't get to pool until after 10 later some days and always managed to Get them so queuing is unnecessary.
The inside pool is cold and the jacuzzi was dirty with a line of green mould around the edge so we did not choose to use this.
Food was brilliant with plenty to choose from. Breakfast there was lots of different breads, pastries, fruit, yoghurts, cereals, as well as cooked food with hot drinks and water/ juice.
Lunch was a variety of foods.
Dinner was good with lots of different types of meat, fish and vegetable options. There is a Thomson the dog buffet for children
Although they can still eat from main buffet. They do a lanyard where if children eat healthy foods or try something new they get stickers and when it's full they get awarded a certificate by Thomson the dog. There were also lots of fruit and desserts. Ana the restaurant manager is lovely and brought out a birthday cake for our daughter. They make a real showcase of dinner with some brilliant food sculptures.
The all inclusive was brilliant and well worth the money. As well as 3 meals a day it also included ice creams drinks and bar snacks. The spirits are branded such as Smirnoff vodka and also included slushies and chocolate milk. Certain drinks did have a small charge. The only slight niggle was children were left waiting a while to be served in evenings as they were often overlooked in favour of adults. There is a games room which is dated and smells a bit of damp. The hotel also has washing machines, ironing boards and irons and dryers for guests use. There is a crèche and a small soft play which we didn't use as our children are older.
There is also a playground and football pitch which my son loved. In conclusion we had a lovely family holiday and would recommend the hotel and would return in the future. It's a brilliant place for families. I heard two couples moaning in dining room that it was too aimed at children but it's a Thomson family resort so not sure why they would expect otherwise!!! More
3rd visit, unfortunately not as good as previous years but still a great hotel
We stayed here 8th-15th August and it was our 3rd visit to the Golden Avenida.
Still a lovely hotel with lots of facilities for families but there were a few things that were not as good as when we had previously visited.
1. I found this year there was less choice of food for vegetarians whereas previously this was something I had praised the hotel for.
2. The rooms weren't cleaned that well.
3. We had requested a quiet room and I know requests aren't guaranteed but as we were loyal to this hotel I thought it may have been met. Room 425 which we were in was roadside and very noisy!!
Obviously the sunbed situation is ridiculous but not sure how that could be changed other than more sunbeds?!
1. Still great staff and reception especially Ingrid are really helpful.
2. Restaurant staff are efficient and friendly especially Ana.
3. Great room set up.
4. Good location really close to the beach and Salou centre.
Salou itself has nice beaches and lots to do with lots of touristy shops and nice places to eat.
Wouldn't return in August as for the price you pay you could get better elsewhere but would possibly return in future as it is still a nice hotel overall with a few small points that are letting it down a bit. These could be easily sorted. More

Great Family Holiday
We stayed at Golden Avenues Suites from 9-23 of June.
Nice hotel, good location, within walking distance to shops and beach.
Good size pool, always enough sunbeds! Food was varied and edible if a little bland.
Highlight of this hotel though has to be the Thomson staff! All entertainers (especially Abbie) and child care staff made our holiday truly memorable, with their infectious upbeat personalities.
Travelling with two small children (10 months and 2) we used the hotel creche and can not rate it highly enough! Both Kims were friendly and fun but Kim Vernon went the extra mile to make both our son's holiday special from dancing with them at the disco to talking to them around the pool and at meal time, Kim is really a credit to the Thompson team!

I visited the resort with my husband and two children age 10 & 15. Sadly, I cannot echo the views of others. In 15 years this is the first family resort I have disliked. The room was unclean, no basic items available i had to request toilet roll, pillows, empty my own bins. The entertainment was poor and not worth watching. Food was very average not a great choice. All inc stops at 11pm, so be aware you will be charged for any drinks after that time inc soft drinks. The entertainment reps were friendly but not the standard i have encountered at any other resort. Kids club was poor with 1 session a day for my son 4-6pm!! Others were drop ins for ages 3/11 years and he didn't want to go with all ages. Unless you were willing to pay for their organised parties, you would not have known what was going on. Again very poor. Would not recommend this hotel! Utterly disappointed. More
Excellent hotel. We had maids in every day. We did have some English money go missing but we are Hoping to find it in our dirty washing. They did everything they could to make our stay lovely and I highly recommend this hotel. We had a pool view and had to laugh at the English towel brigade to put there towels on the sun beds. Shame us English spoil this excellent hotelMore
