Thomson Kids' Club
Designed for 3 to 11 year olds, Thomson Kids’ Club offers 2 hours of activities, 5 or 6 days a week. And that includes at least 3 evenings. It’s split into sections, with Tots for 3 to 5 year olds, Team for 6 to 8s, and Tribe for 9 to 11s. Best of all, most kids’ clubs activities are completely free. And outside of peak season, there are parent and toddler sessions 3 days a week, too. For your peace of mind, all Thomson Kids’ Club staff have advance DBS checks and hold NVQ Level 2 childcare qualifications. They’re First Aid trained, and there’ll be at least 2 of them on duty at all times.
Children have their very own pool. And to top it off, there's a fish-shaped slide and a climbing frame in the water.
Hidden away from all the hustle and bustle outdoors is the indoor pool, a whirlpool bath and sunloungers.

Managers attitude to security
On arrival during the check in process strangers entered the hotel and stole one of our hand luggage bags. Unfortunately my young daughters. She lost a treasured soft toy. Discussion with the Thompson main supervisor revealed the hotel managers attitude towards security was basically non existant. A review of the Hotel cctv showed the burglary. It would have been simple to have somebody stand in reception looking for such people. In fact a receptionist did that later in the week. The manager chose to completely ignore me. When the police arrived and took a statement from me he blanked me completely. Not a man I would be happy to put in charge of my hotel if I owned one. The hotel was nice. Food excellent. Pool crowded. One morning we came down for breakfast early to find a queue of people holding towels waiting for the pool doors to open at 8am.. This queue aprox 25 mtrs long! Once doors opened people raced to place towels. reminded me of Xmas sales in London. So much for the rules about not being allowed to save beds with towels. We wont be revisitingMore

We have just got back from our holiday at the Avenida Suites and I can't really praise it or Thompson enough. The hotel was nice, clean and well equipped. Our room was on the main road which was quite loud if the balcony doors were open but as soon as they were closed we could barely hear a thing. The pool area is excellent and has slides for both small and older children as well as a small football pitch. The pool itself was great with a shallow area for smaller children and a deeper area for older children and adults. There is also a play pool with slides. The food was ok but not amazing but was pretty much what you would expect for buffet food. There was quite a large variety on offer and there was always something that we all liked. Thompson were also making a big deal of healthy eating for the children which was a great idea. The hotel staff were brilliant and the Thompson staff were exceptional. There were activities for children (plus some for parents) around the pool for most of the day and then there was a kids show every night which my daughter absolutely loved. We also put my daughter in the nursery for a couple of hours one of the days and the staff were fantastic. The only minus points were really to do with other guests than Thompson or the hotel. people seemed to obsessed with getting their favourite sunbed that the one morning they were queuing at 6:30 for the pool opening at 7:45 (very sad)! And on top of this despite sunbeds having been reserved the guests sometimes did not actually use the beds until late afternoon if at all. It seemed that some selfish guests were reserving them just in case they wanted to use them. Really we should have just chucked their towels in the pool........ having said this we never had a problem finding a few sunbeds when we went to the pool even if we had to move one from the other side. Also there were a couple of families that appeared to be on a drinking holiday and would let their children look after themselves while the parents drank themselves silly. Then both the parents and the kids would be running through the hotel late at night screaming and shouting. Thankfully the vast majority of guests were polite and well behaved and we were only kept awake one night by the idiots. We will most likely be booking the same place next year as Thompson made my children's holiday a pleasure and as such we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves too.More
OK hotel....It all depends what you want from a holiday
We stayed at the Golden Avenida between 26th July and 9th August 14 with our 12 year old daughter. Our overall feelings about this hotel are 'somewhat disappointed'. Given the majority of 'excellent' reviews for this hotel we were expecting great things, what we actually got was a mediocre hotel, pretty poor food and we came home thinking our hard earned cash could have been better spent. The hotel itself is clean, the rooms are large and pretty modern but ours faced the road and it was incredibly noisy (not just from the traffic, but people walking home after the pubs/clubs shut shouting, signing and fighting). This combined with the paper thin walls was not conducive to a good nights sleep. The food was really not up to 4* standard. It was of poor quality, bland and the menu was very repetitive. I guess the hotel are catering for the 100% British clientele. Breakfast was by far the worse meal of the day, the bacon was uncooked and the sausages were such poor quality they were inedible. The restaurant service was poor. In a 4* hotel I do not expect to have dirty plates left on my table or to have to collect my own cutlery. It was more like a canteen. My biggest issue with the hotel is the pool area. There just isn't enough space around the pool and the sunbeds are so squashed together the kids were climbing over them to get into the pool. I like to relax on holiday, not have someone elseâs soaking wet kid climbing over me! In all honesty, most of the people there seemed to be enjoying their holiday, and many were repeat guests. I suppose it all depends what kind of holiday you want. If you want noise 24/7, someone else to look after your kids, and to be surrounded by people with an obvious love of the 'F' word and a 60-a-day nicotine addiction then this is the place for you. If you want a bit of rest and relaxation and a bit of luxury on your holiday, or if you have children over the age of 10, then I would advise you to look elsewhere. What you are paying for here are the Thomson reps. It is by no way a 4* standard hotel. We normally book 4 or 5 star and this is, by far, the worse hotel we have stayed in. Salou itself was a bit of a let-down too. It is very built up and dirty (lots of dog mess, rubbish and graffiti everywhere). The beach is lovely but gets very crowded. We did a couple of trips whilst we were there. Portadventura which was great but you really need to buy the fast passes, (â¬25 each and can be purchased from lots of different outlets on the park - you don't need to queue at the one by the main entrance), or you will just stand in queues all day. We also went on the full day Downhill Bikes which was excellent. The team are extremely professional and helpful, the BBQ stop at the end of the trip was superb and if we ever visit Salou again (which I doubt) we would love to do this trip again.More

ok wouldn't do a thompson holiday again
We stayed as a family of 5 2 adults and 3 children (8, 6, 4) from 8th July to the 22nd July. I will try to keep this as short as possible, Our experience wasn't a great one due to the few uneducated, low life, no care or respect for other hoteliers, staff or children. Thompson know who these families were and should not have let definitely 1 particular family that caused utter chaos and in my eyes completely let the name of the Hotel down and unfortunately we had the privilege of staying 2 doors away from 1 family and directly across from the other family that caused a few problems also. I did complain on 2 occasions about 1 family (mother and 2 kids and the granny) Scum is what i would call them, granny in particular would spit at the plants the only sentences she could put together was a few F words and B words I witnessed her beat up her grandson call him every name under the sun the daughter would give him a lite cigarette and bottle of beer to carry over to the granny, they neglected the kids and the boy got terribly burnt and for our first few days there he wore underwear as togs, sick what i witnessed and what my kids had to witness, Thompson you should have removed this family to retain your reputation, thats it for me I will book my own holiday anymore and avoid Thompson altogether cause this is the second year in a row that you have let yourselves down, no more. I spent a lot of money on this holiday and to be mixed with scum like that was sick, we work dam hard to go on holidays every year with our children and unfortunately this one was quite an emotional one especially for our kids as on a daily basis they were afraid of their children who spat and robbed your floats and the filth out of their mouths was shocking(in fairness not their fault they way they were brought up) and one night to wake up and one of our kids could hear commotion outside our door and I foolishly opened the door to find a mother and child (who was completely distraught) screaming their heads off they were in with the family across from us, mother obviously had one too many or something else she had taken, the poor child was in complete shock as to what was happening I was trying to calm the child down while another hotelier tried to reason with the mother to go back to her room. My kids were so upset what they saw it was hard for them to sleep at night. I will say no more about my experience other than Boris and Ingrid and Bar staff and staff in restaurant are a credit to the Hotel and took all the crap from disrespectful families....More
Brilliant family holiday.
Brilliant family holiday. "We stayed here as a family of 4, myself, my partner and 2 sons aged 9 and 4 stayed for 10 days full board. On first impressions the hotel doesn't look much to talk about....but we had the best family holiday ever. We've stayed in Salou on 2 previous occasions and this was by far the best hotel we have stayed at. The food was brilliant, something different every meal, the kids menu is pretty basic, smiley faces, hot dogs or spaghetti and it seemed to be the same everyday, but if you're children are not fussy eaters then there is plenty of choice, desserts were fab too (didn't cater for just the German holiday makers which makes a change in Spain!!). Kids clubs were great, on twice a day (closed on Wednesdays) and catered for children from 3-12yrs with plenty to do. Pools were great, although if you want a sunbed you have to get down before 8am with your towels at the ready, didn't really bother us too much as we walked into Salou center most days and came back to the hotel around lunch time, could always get a sunbed. There was also a little park for the smaller children and a football court which the reps held tournaments on daily for all ages. Plenty going on round the pool during the day, quizzes, water polo, even had a daily game for the toddlers which was great as made them feel involved and not left out when the older kids play. A little splash pool with slides for toddlers too with tipping water bucket and slides! Be warned though, even when it was 25-28 degrees the pools are FREEZING but quite refreshing when the temp is high. Thomson the dog came out round the pool once a day for photos with the kids which was nice. Kids entertainment was good, had a mini disco early evening and a show after about 9pm usually. Got to say, the Thomson reps were amazing at keeping everyone entertained, really friendly and always someone there happy to help with anything. Anyway I think you can gather from my review that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Golden Avenida....Oh the only major gripe for us were the beds, Oh my days, it would have been comfier sleeping in the bath which I was tempted to do on several occasions, the beds are like rocks, my other half has a slipped disc so he really struggled with the beds, no movement in them at all, the worst beds I have EVER slept in, but if you can get over that then you'll have an amazing holiday. The hotel is only a 2 minute walk from the center where all the main bars and restaurants are and the gorgeous beaches. (turn left as soon as you walk out of the hotel, 2 minutes and you're in the center)Lots of beach front restaurants, I'd recommend having a meal out at one of the harbor fish restaurants, fresh fish was amazing). Will stop waffling now and let you book your stay ;)"More
