great family hotel

just back from spending a week at the Avenida and can't fault it the suite was large with a double balcony tv in both rooms (not that we watch much) with seating area and small kitchen area with kettle microwave and fridge not that we needed it as we were all inclusive and being a fussy eater i was very impressed with the large selection of food on offer in the dinning room the desserts were amazing the pool area was great too the whole hotel was clean the staff friendly and helpful the reps were great and always ready to help the only thing i didn't like was the water in the pool was too cold could have done with heating it but overall a fantastic hotel will be looking at going back again.More

Almost Golden Avenida

Just back from a week at the Golden Avenida , a Thomson Hotel, can't see why anyone can be dissapointed by this hotel. The rooms are great, only complaint my wife noticed ,is the cleaners only clean what they see i.e ,not under beds I find that is the case in most hotels I stay in,other than that they have two rooms with a TV in each , [ I mean a television !!] if you need that ! The food is fine ,if sometimes not the warmest , maybe something that needs looked at , to be fair it was the end of the season, the hotel was not full ,so the food will lie a little longer, I hear people say it gets repeditive, Yes thats a problem I find, when I come home from work to find a choice of Fish, chicken, pork, beef, pasta ,salad etc . Tip Why not have one thing each night rather than a bit of everything on your plate then you will have something different each night , lol.........anyway to the pool very cold I think the employed a man to shovel ice into it,or maybe I am just soft , probably the latter. The pool area is well set out ,as has been covered by others , and has a lifegaurd on duty each day This Hotel is really geared up for Kids under about 10 years, age and under We had a 14 year old with us so not much for that age group ,I find that in most hotels, they tend not to have too much for 12-16 years. Maybe some thing for Thomson to think about, the entertainment was the usual mixed bag , the entertainment team done well and seemed to enjoy what they do , I find Salou a little quiet, but very nice , again it was the end of season. Some great plus point for the hotel ,you get full internet access free , and anywhere in the hotel, sky sports for the football,or any other sissy sports you might want to watch i.e Cricket, motor racing...... To summarize. A very nice hotel , 10 mins from the beach , would recomend to anyone with young kids. would I use again no unless it was last minute, but only because It is suited to families with young kids. You will not be dissapointed in this hotel if you book it . couple of points, It was the end of season so not overly busy , it is not a very big hotel, so in high season you may find you may be in the shade quite a bit because of the layout ,i.e lots of trees , and the restuarant may be a bit crowded at times , not a bid deal , no shortage of sunbed though , again in high season the sunbed racers will be out in force I should think. Sorry almost forgot ,have to mention in despatches, the Lady who ran the restuarant was very nice and helpful, and the wethere was great !! [think that's the worst SPELL of weather I have seen in a while ] wethere was great !![ think that's the worst spell of weather I have seen]More

sunshine holiday in october

Just returned from 11 night stay at this hotel. Hotel clean throughout. Rooms comfortable with seating area. Pool area kept very clean and well presented. Excellent facilities for families with children although we stayed here as a couple. I should imagine it is very noisy in the high season if you do not have children. I certainly would not want to stay here in the high season. Reception staff very helpful with local information. We booked through Thomsons. went to the welcome meeting which was helpful although we did not participate in the entertainment, not really our cup of tea! Our room was kept nice and clean and beds changed three times during our stay. Towels changed on request as is normal in hotels nowadays. Towels were looking a bit tired and not very fluffy generally. Could do with renewing before the next season. Food was ok,good choices at breakfast and dinner, however a bit of a let down with the hot food as generally is was lukewarm, although there is a microwave to heat up if desired. Excellent choice of desserts all beautifully presented. Excellent choice of salads and fruit also, the only letdown was the main course hot food not being very hot, the quality otherwise was good and a huge choice. Ana the dining room manager always there with a welcome and was very good with the children. The hotel is not situated on the sea front, you have to walk for about 10 minutes to get there, but well worth it when you get there. Bus stop 5 mins from hotel, Easy to get around. There is the road train also to take you round the resort. Bus travel cheap - get a card from the tobacconist for 3 euros and pay for 10 trips on local buses which is 12 euros - so 15 euros in total and you can top up card as required. Good value. To sum up good all round family hotel, but very geared up for families with children.More

Fantastic Fun Filled Holiday!

Stayed at the Golden Avenida Suites for 1 week with my sister (both of us in our mid 40's) ~ Half Board Basis. What a fantastic family hotel!! Quick check in at reception with very friendly helpful staff. A safe is available in the room which is 30 euros (10 euros returned at the end of your stay). Rooms are huge with a main room with double bed, kitchenette and lounge with a big twin room adjoining. Both have TV's and their own patio doors onto the balcony. Our room was roadside and really quiet. They are cleaned daily and are immaculate ~ a great house keeping service. Pools are exceptionally clean too but NOT heated. The bar is open all day for snacks and drinks and the staff are very friendly. Shallow pools with slides right next to the main pools for the kids so easy for parents to keep watch and also a life guard throughout the day. Plenty of sunbeds and 'reserving loungers' is not allowed here. Poolside entertainment is daily with family games and a fun lunchtime quiz and prizes. The reps are so entertaining and allow guests to join in at their leisure. Salou is lovely with many bars, restaurants and shops to browse. The locals are also very friendly and are willing to 'haggle' prices so don't be afraid to ask for a good deal. I would recommend Laurel and Hardy's and Sam's for lunchtime meals if holidaying Half Board and the vast clean beach is only a 10 minutes stroll. It's all completely flat too so easy for wheelchair users with ramps on every curb and road crossing. Chaplin's cabaret and cocktail bar is a must! Live entertainment every evening, fun games for all the family and closes around 3-4am for the party animals. So friendly, sociable and just brilliant fun! Porta Ventura is a fantastic day out and great value for money. Very young children have their own theme ride area within the park with sesame street characters to entertain. The whole family can enjoy a great day. The rides here are exceptional. We didn't have to queue for any but this was because it's end of season. Take your own food though as the snacks are stupidly expensive. The hotel food is lovely and a huge variety everyday. It is not always steaming hot but this did not put us off. Ana, the greeter is fantastic and always friendly and welcoming she works extremely hard and is always smiling. There is no queuing for tables and there is waiter service for drinks. An evening meal can be swapped for a lunch meal too if you want to try and local restaurant for a change. The hotel entertainment staff are outstanding ~ they kept us laughing during the day poolside and are sociable and interact with everyone. They go out of their way to help and even did a surprise special announcement for my sister's birthday and had all the guests singing 'Happy Birthday' around the pool to her and gave her a bottle of bubbly! A fantastic touch. Overall this holiday was amazing for our visit to Salou. I would highly recommend it and will definitely return. All the staff are very professional and friendly and I cannot praise this hotel enough. Worth every penny of our stay. Thank you to you all and Thomson for making our holiday so special.More

Fantastic trip

Had 2 great weeks here with the wife and two young kids. Room was great and always cleaned well, love the idea of having a double bed in living room and still having a seperate seating area, wish more places would do the same. TV in each room was good and they also had usb inputs which played the films from the kids tablet via a usb dongle we had, though we didnt need them as Disney channel was available. We were half board which was perfect. Breakfast was on par with holiday villages and was by far our favourite meal of the day. Pancakes with the fake nuttella were my downfall each morning :-) Tip -- Water is available from juice machine, its not obvious, its a blue button on the right. Dinner was good, esp the Tues night (chocolate fountain night). Always something that everyone could eat. A nice surprise was being able to swap dinner for lunch, ideal for the days we knew we were going out for dinner at night. The beach is really nice but busy, we did manage to get decent spaces without too much walking about. Entertainment at night could have been improved at times, some of the acts were really good and all suitable for kids. My kid is still going on about the magician sawing the lady in half. The pools were a tad on the chilly side but they did heat up as the day went on. Staff were all great and always made us feel very welcome. Regarding all the reviews about noisy kids, it is a family hotel, expect kids here, loads of them, kids make noise and i wouldn't have it any other way. Friends of mine have booked here based on what I told them. If we were a family that went back to the same place twice then I would come back here without a shadow of a doubt.More
