Stayed hear 2 out of the 3 times I've been to salou with the while family.. wish I had of stayed the 3 times. Hotel is fantastic, great for families, kids club for children, lots of activities to keep the interested! Staff our great, got to know us all on our first year of staying, knew us the second time we came back, place is clean, lots of entertainmen, great distance from the salou town! Just a fab holiday both times we stayed and we all plan on coming back to this hotel again in the futureMore
Really good place for families
Don't listen to the bad reviews about the pool being too cold our kids loved it and were in the pool for hours , yes the pool was cold but isn't most outdoor pools. If you were to book for summer the pool could be a bit crowded. We stayed for a week end of Oct 15 , the hotel is very clean our room was cleaned everyday and fresh towels left. The food and drink was reasonable to eat in.The supermarket on site was very handy and cheap. Eddie the entertainer was very good and did a lot for the kids and adults. The hotel is a couple of miles out of Salou but that wasn't an issue as buses run every 10 mins. I would definitely recommend this and there was a good restaurant down the hill called The Tropical.More
Better than I thought it'd be...
The old adage that 'you get what you pay for' applies to the SunClub. Its not luxurious but it is better than some people on here give it credit for. The two bedroom family apartment we had was small but it was tidied daily and towels were replaced with clean ones. The pool area was nice and our three small children enjoyed the children's area despite the freeeeeezing water! The staff were competent if not particularly smiley. It was the end of season and the restaurant had run out of half the menu items but it was of a reasonable standard. We were there two weeks and the clientele were perhaps not the greatest; a lot of loud and at times rather drunken Scots the first week but the hotel itself was fairly quiet. The noisy hotel next door had closed for the season but if it was open noise would have been a problem if you had a pool facing room.
There were no safety mechanisms on the windows, which posed a significant hazard as the windows of our fifth floor apartment could easily be opened wide by our kids. This is something to bear in mind if you have little ones.
The hotel was very convenient for bus transport to Salou or to Tarragona (a beautiful town). The SunClub's biggest problem is that it is in Cap Salou, which is dire in the extreme. I appreciate that it was the end of season and most hotels and restaurants were closed but the resort is run down and depressing with nothing to do if you have kids. I don't know what the Catalan government do with the tourist tax revenue, but they don't spend any of it cleaning up the litter in Cap Salou!
All in all, after a slightly disappointing initial impression, the SunClub won us over with a combination of a good pool area, convenience to bus routes, and reasonable overall quality. Cap Salou is not nice and I wouldn't go in high season due to noise issues, but we'd consider returning again late or early in the season.More
Brilliant entertainment and Thomson staff
We have just returned from sunclub after 10 nights and the hotel is ok but the people who make it are Eddie who does the entertainment. He is brilliant with the kids and and really gets them involved shame he isn't at all the other places we gave stayed.
Also the Thomson rep John was brilliant with both my daughter faith and boy Alfie and nothing was to much trouble for him and always had time to speak to us again a shame not all reps can be like this. A long with the kids club staff.
The hotel it's self was ok for the money we paid and is worth it on a cheap no frills hotel. It has local buses all the time taking you into salou town and other nice locations.
Overall thanks to the people mention we had a nice time and the kids really enjoyed them self's thanks to Eddie and the Thomson team.
Room for improvement
As a family with 3 children it is always difficult to to obtain value for money during school holidays. We had a fantastic holiday using Cap Salou as base for trips to Barcelona and surrounding area. The Aparthotel had friendly staff and the facilities were as expected. Our apartment was on the small side but as we did not spend much time in it no issue. It would be nice if they improved the kitchen facilities (mugs and an electric kettle would have been nice). We paid for Wifi access which was expensive.
I would have rated the Aparthotel higher if it had not been for two issues. On arriving we had to wash all the catering equipment (no washing up liquid provided) as left dirty. This should have been picked up by housekeeping.
Secondly as highlighted by other reviews there is an issue with bedding and towels. Some of our bedding smelt and despite several attempts to resolve we gave up. The problem appears to be not drying sheets, bedcovers and pillowcases properly. Many of the towels were grey and beyond their life for use in a hotel. As constructive criticism I would suggest they review their housekeeping laundry arrangements prior to next season.
A big positive for the Aparthotel was Eddie and the kids entertainment in the evening.
Overall deserves 4 stars but one lost due to housekeeping issues. The Aparthotel would have lost further stars if I had paid high season prices.
