First time at this hotel and best place we have stayed in Nerja, after four previous visits to the town. We stayed for 10 nights half board and for us, this was just about right. Our room was spacious, clean and modern with a good view to the sea and mountains. The restaurant was buffet service at breakfast and dinner with a huge choice and a high quality of food with friendly service. Two sittings, at 18:30 and 20:15. There was a smaller table service restaurant which could be booked at reception, it appears at no extra cost. We did not use it, as we were happy with the main restaurant. There is a snack bar near to the pool, which does snack type lunches of varied menu types. The pool itself was never overcrowded and there are plenty of sun beds. Normally I avoid hotel entertainment, but this time found it quite enjoyable with a good variety of acts. The gym is very well equipped and is not just a token gesture. I used it most days and as it is air conditioned it was a pleasant relief from the late afternoon heat. Would I go back? Yes I would.More
I am at the hotel while writing this review. The hotel is fine, we were allocated a room on the 7th floor with amazing views and a massive balcony. The hotel is spotlessly clean and we had no problems with any of the staff. The usual problem with sunbeds reservers who quite frankly get on my nerves, the hotel does nothing to discourage this. The food is what you would expect from hotel buffets although one night they served roast beef that was like shoe leather, we ate out every other night. Entertainment probably wouldn't get two yes''s on x-factor, really low budget. Drinks are reasonably priced €5 for a G&T and about 4 for a large beer, obviously it's a euro or two cheaper outside the hotel. Usual gripe about having to pay for a safe especially seeing as the cleaners keep leaving our room door open after they've cleaned, they rely on the door closers on the inside of the door but on three occasions we have came back to our room to find it open, complained to the management but the problem hasn't gone away, the did send someone to alter the strength of the door closer but both the front and the back door were open today, so bear this in mind as not all things fit in the safe. This is our 7th and probably last time in nerja as we feel it's deteriorated over the last few years, lots of hippy type beggars with dogs in and around the balcon, more looky looky men than you can shake a stick at. Nerja is still a nice place with plenty of good quality restaurants and good beaches. More
One week at Rui Monica with Thomson holidays
Second visit to this Hotel. Clean and comfortable. Staff helpful and friendly. Lovely pool with access to promenade. Placement of the pool towels starts about 6a.m. Rooms are spacious. Towels badly need replacement. You could spit peas through them. We were supplied with toiletries last year as you would expect from a 4 star hotel. Not this time. Cheap shower gel from a dispenser on the wall. They expect you to use this as shampoo. Disappointing cut back. We were half board. Food was very good with plenty of choices. Real let down was the flight. Thomson contracted it out to a company called Alba Star. The planes are ancient and filthy. On the flight back the only time we saw the staff was when they did the "Trolley Dolly ". No safety check walk through. On arrival sat for ages on the tarmac. Eventually told we were waiting for stairs - no undercovered walkway. Certainly not what you expect from Thomson'sMore
Return to Riu Monica
We were delighted with the refurbished hotel, very tastefully done, lovely seating in the reception/bar areas. We have been to this hotel many times but were pleased to return and had a lovely week in a comfortable refurbished room. The restaurant also looks great. The staff are very helpful and courteous and it feels very safe and a pleasant environment for those of a more mature age group. Wouldnt recommend for younger couples wanting a fun packed holiday but great for a relaxing, quiet time. My only niggle was the fact that there was less space for loungers around the pool and in the gardens with some areas cordonned off, it meant that people were arriving early to put their towels on beds in order to find a bit of space, also a lack of chairs which a lot of people like to have as well. When asked the staff said they were trying to keep the grass looking good thats why some areas were exempt from sun beds, shame because we were a bit squashed up a bit like a cruise ship as someone else said. Nevertheless, will return.More
Excellent Hotel in a Great Location.
My wife and I just have just returned from a 10-day stay in the fantastic Riu Monica in beautiful Nerja. Right from our arrival until we departed we experienced nothing but exceptional service from the wonderful professional and friendly staff. We had let the hotel know we would be arriving after midnight and they had left a cold-plate supper in the restaurant for us which was very welcome. We were lucky enough to get upgraded to a sea-facing room on the 6th floor which was very welcome. We had half-board and could have no complaints about the quality and selection of food available at both breakfast and dinner. We also tried their separate Spanish-themed restaurant on 2 nights and that was excellent and a nice change from the buffet. The pool area was perfect, spotlessly clean and plenty of sunbeds even with the early-morning sunbed poachers claiming their spots and in some cases not using the beds at all during the day (please get a life!). We also ate at the pool-side snack bar and again the quality of food was excellent. Food and drink prices were also very reasonable considering this is a 4-star hotel. We sampled the evening entertainment on a couple of nights and that was perfectly acceptable. There are a number of bars across the road from the hotel and our favourite was Cafe Fenix where we enjoyed finishing off the evening with a relaxing drink and some people-watching. Nerja is a beautiful location and the hotel is perfectly located in a quite area and a short 10-minute walk from the Balcon. Would definitely recommend and return.More
