Just back from a lads weekend. Lovely hotel in a great location. Stayed on room only basis so can't comment on food. All staff seemed very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and the safe was free of charge. Would stay again More
Not as expected
We had high hopes for this hotel after reading other reviews but we were seriously disappointed. On entering the hotel instead of a pleasant greeting we were met by a female receptionist who just barked the word 'passports' at us. My husband had booked direct with the the hotel and had requested a superior room on an upper floor. We were given a standard room on the first floor. After a return trip to reception we were then moved to a superior room on the 5th floor, but to be honest there was barely any difference. The extra space consisted of a corridor that went down the side of the bathroom - not much use! The room itself was not bad. Nice to have a fridge and safe included in the price. The bathroom was spacious - but only had a shower. The beds however were rock hard with only 1 thin pillow. The pool was shallow and not really any good for swimming. Pool area was also quite small although there was never a problem getting a sunbed. Its also overlooked by blocks of high rise flats - so no nice views. There's 3 lifts in the hotel. We got stuck in a lift twice - not a pleasant experience and by the end of the week only 1 lift was working which was ridiculous. You were'nt meant to use the stairs as they had emergency exit signs above them so people were actually queuing to use the lifts. I had a spa treatment which was pleasant but quite basic and not really worth the 50 euro's. Breakfast was ok but not a huge selection. I'm glad we were not half board. We never stayed in for the entertainment as it was not to our taste but plenty of others seemed to enjoy it. We did spend one evening in the TV room watching the football. On this particular night the service was excellent. you ring the bell and the waiter appears minutes later, we took advantage of the happy hour. However on a subsequent evening no amount of ringing the bell brought the waiter. I walked into the restaurant and asked the waitress to ring the bar - which she did, but after waiting for almost an hour we gave up as did others. I can't recommend this hotel but there were many there who return year after year. As for Fuengirola itself - we've been to the Costa del Sol many times, staying at Malaga, Torremolinos and Benalmadena previously, and I have to say Fuengerola is a shabby neighbour compared to the other resorts. The beach area and promenade stretch for miles in either direction but directly opposite are lines of mostly tatty and rundown shops, bars and restaurants. Further inland varies - there are some nice squares and streets with traditional shops and restaurants but these are intermingled with more tat. The bio parc is worth a visit. The animal enclosures are small but well kept and this place does a lot for animal preservation. One thing Fuengirola is good for is its transport links. There's a good bus and rail service which is regular and inexpensive. We took the train to Malaga and Benelmadena. And my favourite day had to be when we took the bus to Mijas. A lovely village set in the hills. Fantastic views, good quality shops and places of interest to see. We liked it so much we returned the following evening and had a meal in a wonderful restaurant called the secret garden, which is as the name suggests. A beautiful walled garden, peaceful and quite romantic. The food was superb and I would love to return. So all in all the hotel and Fuengirola were'nt for us but plenty of people enjoy it there.More
Inaccurate Food Labels/Titles.
Currently staying at the Hotel.
The Staff are excellent and are always helpful - a great asset to the Hotel Management.
Unlike earlier reviews the food is fine and varied for "meat eaters".
My only criticism - which I have passed on to the Management - is that most vegetarians do not eat :- " Fish, Flesh or Foul ". However, the Chef has labelled up every daily Dinner Menu with the letter " V " as being Vegetarian against the various Fish Dishes - which can be both misleading and inaccurate. Hopefully the Management will rectify this error as soon as possible so that Guests will know exactly what is or is not a Vegetarian Dish.
Other than this one criticism - we are enjoying a comfortable and relaxing time at the Florida Spa Hotel. More
The only good thing about this hotel is that it is across the road to the beach. You have to understand and it depends what you are looking for, people go back year after year, one couple went for the 5th time, personally I would not go even if it was free. Normally you can say the food was not good but there was always something you could eat, NOT US we had to spend money to go out to eat most nights. Breakfast was a mistake, they could not even get that right, seems like they used the cheapest quality food possible. Rooms small, could not walk past one another by the bed. Bathroom ok large walk-in shower. Lifts so slow and there are 3 of them. Spa very claustrophobic it is in the basement. The pool is a joke first of all the sun does not reach it till midday and it is SO SHALLOW you cannot swim, it is also surrounded by apartment's, the snack bar is pathetic and that's the nicest thing I can say about it, ALL IN ALL IT WAS NOT FOR US, it is quite possible you will go and have a great time, good for you, and if you are over 70 your ok we are over 70 but only in age. Entertainment pathetic could do a lot better.More
Visited in April with my wife and two friends. We arrived late due to flight problems (not due to airline for once). Reception staff were very efficient, books us in and made sure we got our evening meal even though it was only minutes from the restaurant's usual closing time. Restaurant staff organised drinks while we selected our food from the large choice of starters and mains.
When we eventually got to our room, our luggage had already been taken up. The rest of our stay was equally well catered for. Good views from our balcony and easy walking on promenade. Ideal for older visitors, but plenty to do around the town for all age groups.More
