We stayed at the Florida between 22nd and 29th September 2014. The hotel was booked through Travel Republic and we flew with Aer Lingus from Belfast. The Florida is well located on the sea front and is ideal for people with reduced mobility. The Florida's greatest strength is its staff who are hard working, polite and friendly towards guests. This hotel is modern and has 12 floors. On each floor eight bedrooms face directly out to sea and eight face the pool. The latter, especially the higher ones, have good views of both the sea and the mountains. The sea view rooms get the morning sun and the pool view ones receive the afternoon and evening sun. Each room has a free safe, television and tea/coffee making facilities. The majority of rooms have a large walk-in shower rather than a bath. The free wifi was good and we were able to tune in to our local radio station on the ipad as well as facetime family members.
The breakfast buffet offers a wide choice including porridge and the usual cooked breakfast items. The dinner menu (buffet style) should suit all tastes. My advice is to take time and walk around and view what's on offer before making a choice. Maria and her staff in the dining room are attentive and friendly and are most helpful to those with disabilities. Monica and her colleagues at the front desk provide an efficient and professional service and are a credit to the hotel. We were very impressed with the improvement in the entertainment since our previous visits.
We travelled by train to and from Malaga Airport. The station (underground) is across the road from Terminal 3. The fare to Fuengirola is 2.65 euro single. The journey time is 34 minutes and the modern trains to Fuengirola leave the airport at 02, 22 and 42 minutes past the hour. Trains to the airport leave Fuengirola on the hour, 20 and 40 past the hour. The trains have station display screens and announcements in English as well as Spanish. As a couple in our 70s we walked to and from the Florida (one medium case and a cabin sized case). At the top of the escalator go left down Paseo Jesus Santos Rein and at the fountains with the horse sculptures turn right and kept straight on until you reach the hotel which is on the left. You will cross a busy street on your way.
As this hotel ticks all the boxes for us we shall certainly return.More

Travelled with Thomson.- First time at this hotel. Asked for upper floor and was given room on 11th floor with superb sea views and overlooking the marina. Rooms well equipped including tea and coffee making facilities(much appreciated) also fridge and safe all at no extra cost. Weather was very hot during our stay so it was good to have a fridge to stock with cold drinks to be enjoyed on the balcony. The hotel was very clean everywhere we went. Food was excellent from breakfast with a great selection and dinner with a vast array of hot dishes and a a great salad/fresh fruit selection. . My wife "the veggie" had no complaints as there was always something she really enjoyed on the menu. The restaurant was managed by the very efficient Maria who greeted the guests with a smile and ensured that tables were quickly cleared and we never had to queue for a table. Gary the Thomson rep was one of the best we have ever met. He was always there to ensure that guests had a good holiday and was a great source of information. We went on the day trip to Gibraltar - well worth going to and enjoyed a really good day out, the war tunnels were really interesting in the "rock". The hotel is a short walk from the bus and train station and used both to explore the area. Did we enjoy the holiday? Yes so much that we have already re- booked for 2015!More

My wife and I booked through Thomson Platinum for 14-21 Sept 2014 again and this was our fifth time [2nd time this year] to stay at Florida Hotel- we contacted reception in advance to see if we could get same room as last time on 12 th floor and they obliged. We booked taxi to/from Malaga Airport due to a past experience of sitting on a coach for well over and hour and it is such a short journey to Fuengirola.
Staff at reception were as usual extremely efficient and pleasant and we were booked in in about 3 minutes.
Room was clean on arrival with a courtesy bottle of water.
Restaurant this time had a much wider selection of food and quality was excellent-dining rooom is bright and pleasant and we have never had to wait for a table.
Generally we have gone to the beach and can't really comment on the pool however we did notice that it was never too crowded.
Evening entertainment we thought was from average to good with cabaret artists every evening-not Thomson teams.Happy hour also was very good- buy one get one free.
Fuengirola itself has an attraction for us as it combines proximity to the beach and shopping areas. Although we had booked half board we generally went into the town for croissants, orange juice and coffee[ 5 euros] just to watch the world go by. We did eat out a few nights for variety and our favourite spot is Rusticus and most nights we went to the Place de la Constitution for a few drinke before head ing back to the hotel-There are various opinions on Fuengirola as there are with anywhere else however we are aged mid to late sixties and it suited us very well as we liked to walk a lot, relax with a few drinks and just chill out. For sunbeds we went to Cepe Playa just opposite the hotel and the guy who runs that section of the beach is excellent and makes sure the place is kept very tide.
The shops in Fuengirola are a broad mix but something for everyone.
On departure the reception staff wished us well which was a nice touch and we have to say that the process of getting booked in at Malaga Airport was made very smooth due to the presence of Thomson staff.
Getting on to the aircraft was a bit problematic as there was only one girl on for most of the time and it was disorganised to say the least but no reflection on Thomson.
All in all another excellent holdiat at the Florida Hotel and we are now booking for another tripMore

Just back 21st sep , Hotel was lovely & clean rooms cleaned every day& clean towels. Fridge & safe also kettle all free. Bath robes for guests but we had to asked for these as were not in room when we arrived. Breakfast was poor no english sausages or omelettes , but the best selection of fresh fruit i have seen in a hotel . Dinner was hit & miss if you got it warm , found a microwave the last nite, the dinner s over all were good but sweets all tasted the same. Staff all very helpful . Pool small & shallow & i think if there was a few steps to walk in would be better as there was a ladder which i think is not needed also not suitable for older guests . Pool bar good showing the english football , but tv in rooms no english just sky news. Entertainment at nite ok happy hour 8 30 - 10 pm 2 for 1 good prices . Over all hotel very good , but would not return to Fuengirola as we found it was hard to find live entertainment out side of the hotels.More
