Hotel Riviera Benalmadena ,

Just returned from another enjoyable visit to the Riviera. Reception - Our check in was very efficient and we were made to made to feel very welcome - thank you Elena and Victor .Thank you also to Fernando for arranging our room request. Bedrooms - The rooms are very comfortable and spacious and cleaned to a high standard with daily towel changes, still disagree with charges for fridge and safe surely these facilities should be provided in a 4 *hotel, also the lack of English TV channels (we don't go on holiday to watch TV but when the weather is inclement English channels ITV & BBC would be appreciated) . Pool area - Sun beds /parasols palways available no matter what time of day you needed one and we enjoyed the daytime activities and daily quiz - thank you Zoey and Isaac. Restaurant - Lovely welcome from Roberto & Desiree,as on previous visits the salad selections are second to none and the additional tapas section is a nice feature but unfortunately as others have mentioned the main courses are at times not as hot as they should be unless you select from the show cooking area. The selection of desserts is now very disappointing compared to previous visits ,it used to be a really good selection of various individual pastries and a hot choice and now is just several gateaux and hot choice .Our visit to the a al carte restaurant was very enjoyable and the food and service was great . Overall view - The hotel is spotless , in a wonderful location and we found all the staff very friendly and we will certainly visit again, hopefully the management will address the few niggles that would improve the overall visit .More

could be better

my wife and i stayed early october, great friendly reception staff and quick access to our room which was on the 7 th floor with great views! shower excellent and comfy beds and modern room, advertised on thomson as a 4 star hotel so it amazes me that u need to pay for the use of the fridge and the safe!! fridge doesnt really work too well so i wudnt bother, pool area was nice with good views but a bit small for size of hotel, also guests putting towels out on sun loungers even before sunrise!! easy access to the prom/beach area via stairs or a lift, really good location for the marina and bars etc, hotel bat prices found really expensive and bar staff really rude, service at the tables was really understaffed bt friendly when we did get it, food in the buffer sorry was terrible some nights n really let the hotel down, having to buy a bottle of wine instead of a glass!! why!!??, luke warm food, paella section freezing cold n stale chicken, eating area had no atmosphere for an evening meal amd was like a work canteen, dirty plates left sitting on our table because of lack of staff, brakfast was great compared to evening meal, a la carte cudnt fault it and the staff were great and food was lovely, cnt beleive they dnt use this room more often, nighttime entertainment was truly shocking, defo aimed at the older guests ( all which were 60-90 yrs old ) , majority off them very nice, bar at night closed earlier than advertised, afraid in my view hotel could do a lot better being a supp 4 starhotel, really enjoyed the area but sorry wudnt return to this hotel until improvments were made.More

Not for Us

We have just got back from the Hotel Riviera. The hotel was ok for many year's we went on holiday to the tomson gold hotel's now we go to cheaper hotel's and go more often and stay longer and i wish we had done that again. It was a special birthday we did'nt chose a gold because the rep's drive you mad but after saying that I wish that we had have done the food is better entertainment's better and you feel like you can dress up for the evening not here a lot of ladies wore jeans and a tea shirt .We did have a nice room over the pool but the area what a dump on the promenade the bars and restaurant's are so bad like the worst end of Blackpool looky looky man all along selling bag's teeshirt .If you wont to have lunch at the pool bar the food and drink not very nice.you have the front of the hotel little bar's on a very very busy road that is the only place that you can go if you wont to go out to have a drink at night not for us we would not go and sit at a bar on a busy main road at home why do it on holiday, .Now for the hills where ever you go steps not a few a lot well over 50 to get up to the road from the sea front yes there is a lift down from the hotel but not after eleven you then have to go up the steps not easy. We use to get the bus to Torremolinos that is much better nice bar's and restaurant's nice spanish atmosphere we had to walk back at night it took about an hour but to go back on the bus it was all up very big hills. They offer a free trip to a blanket factory I did'nt think that we would go but nothing to do beach like black mud and we wonted to see Malaga well glad that we did there are other trips if you dont wont Malaga watch when you get to blanket factory hard sell but larraine who took us she did a great job they take you to all the sights of the city it is well worth going two hours for you to look around on your own we did enjoy it. A lot or people love the hotel they stay there all day sitting in the sun that is not for us we like a pretty place nice bars and flat lot of stagg and hens around the harbour and that is nice looking at the boats but it looks like an indoor market with boats .At Manchester Airport they dont check hand luggage. when you get on the coach to come home only then do thomson tell you they weigh it if it is one kilogram over they charge 16 euro's I have never booked a two week holiday and wonted to come home after a week .I wish some one would lhave been honest about this place we would have saved a lot of money people complained but said that they are booking again for next year not for us .More

Our first and last stay

We have just returned from an 11 nights stay at the Riviera and have to agree with the majority of comments regarding the standard of food. The food was very bland and usually lukewarm and if we arrived later for our meal we found that the staff were already clearing the tables and food away. If dinner is served until 9pm it should not be cleared away at 8.30pm. The hotel itself was very clean and reception staff very helpful. We cannot comment on the sunbeds or pool as laying in the sun all day is not something we enjoy doing. The entertainment was very average and much too loud - probably to cater for the older generation. We decided to use the cable car one day which was well worth the 10 euros as the views were outstanding. The local park which is a 20 minute walk away is well worth a visit and likewise a bus trip to Mijas.More

Food the only downside

We really enjoyed our second visit to the hotel, but the reviews about the food are about right, the tapas is nice but as others say it does sit on the counter for a very long time which is a worry when a lot of the dishes are sea food, the puddings are nice but the main courses are generally some sort of stew which don't always taste that nice. Everything else about the hotel is spot on and we have booked for next year but we are hoping the food improves as it is quite an important part of your holiday. It should be interesting to see if others feel the same as us as we are not fussy eaters.More
