Guide to Platja D'aro

"The perfect springboard for exploring the Catalan coastline, Playa de Aro blends sands and sightseeing to a holiday T."

Sitting slap bang at the heart of the Costa Brava, Playa de Aro is one of the world's most renowned holiday resorts. This is because it's got the all the perfect holiday ingredients on tap. Cashmere-soft sands to kick-back and shake off those stresses on. Elegant shops and restaurants to fill your days and nights. And then you've got all of Catalonia's captivating coastline right on your doorstep. So if you want to mix some easy going days with some exploration, this bubbly beach town is just the holiday ticket. Chances are though - you'll find Playa de Aro hard to tear yourself away from. For a start, the beach is absolutely breathtaking. It's most definitely one of the best along the coastline here and that's against some stiff competition! Wide, long and gently sloping, its golden sands are as soft as Demerara sugar. Better still, stroll along its shallows and you'll come across a string of secluded coves where you can stretch out in peace and quiet. Then there's charm of Playa de Aro itself, which has attracted the cosmopolitan set for some time, so you'll find a pretty lively ambience. The promenade is laced with an inviting parade of restaurants, many serving up traditional Catalan cuisine. You'll also find a mix of bars and a number of interesting little shops - all beckoning you into their cool interiors. And set back from the prom is a lattice of small streets lined with red brick houses and glittering, white-tiled pavements. They're also delightfully fragrant with the scent of pine trees. An early evening walk here will give you a flavour of how life used to be lived in this one-time small fishing village. That's before heading down to one of Aro's organised beach parties, where things really get going. Cheers!

With breathtaking views of the surrounding Catalonian coastline, Platja d'Aro has an enviable spot on the Mediterranean shores and is an elegant resort with a large beach and string of secluded bays. A small, but lively town, woven with fragrant pine trees, there is plenty to keep you here with a selection of colourful cafes, traditional Catalan restaurants, international eateries and a sprinkling of quaint shops to browse. Watch the blazing sunset sink into the sparkling seas in a dramatic fireball of vivid orange and pink, perhaps followed by a meal and drink in one of the vibrant bars or dance the night away at one of the organised discos on the beach.
